In what looks like that late Patience Adibe and her boyfriend, Larian Oshoma Edemode were deeply and perhaps madly in love, see a Facebook post where the deceased girl, eulogized her boy friend with passion. In one of the posts, Patience posted that the guy is the only one that knows her "mumu button".

In another post, the young girl posted as if she knew she would die young by say "if I pass away young, don't write that you miss me...visit my family...".

It is unfortunate that the relationship came to an end in tragic way of which I believe Larian ran over Patience in error, but the law must still take its course.

I really feel for the deceased girl and his boy friend. May her soul Rest in Peace, just as I pray for God's mercies on the young man.


Kindly drop your condolences for this late girl and word of advice to couples on how to avoid stories that touch heart like this one.

Last week, a motorist in Festac Town hit an okada rider. He was trying to negotiate a turn, while signaling with his blinker. Unfortunately the motorcycle rider was going too fast, and did not know his road signs.

The result was an accident which damaged both car and motorcycle, and injured both rider and passenger. Before the driver of the car could come out of his car and offer assistance to the injured, about fifty okada riders appeared out of nowhere and descended on the driver, screaming for his blood and chanting Islamic slogans.

As onlookers stared, the okada mob beat the driver of the car senseless and damaged his vehicle. He only escaped with his life after he parted with N35,000.

In December 2019, a woman was making a turn into her compound, when a crazed okada rider came out of nowhere and ran into her car. When she came out of her car to assess the damage, a mob of okada riders attacked her and tore her clothes. By the time help came from people in the area, her purse and phone had been stolen and her children watched in horror as their mother was beaten and fondled by okada hooligans.

This is becoming a regular occurrence in and around Major cities in the southwest.

Who are these okada riders? Where do they come from?
Why are there so many of them? How come we cannot identify them?
Where do they sleep at night?
Who is funding the purchase of motorcycle?

These are questions we have to ask ourselves, and appeal to our government and police to answer.

In the last one year the influx of northerners parading as commercial bike riders, trash packers, vendors of tomato, fruits and vegetables, shoemakers, tinkers (garuwa paper), and other petty items vendors is alarming.

These men come to Lagos in droves and settle wherever with no identification, no address, no documentation. Nobody knows their real names; where they come from, or how to monitor them.

They parade around as cart pushers and steal drainage covers and man-hole covers, leaving gaping holes in the road. They steal generators and air conditioning units from houses and flats, and under the guise of bike riders, they rob innocent men and women at night or in the early mornings.

You cannot catch them because they have no identity and no one seems to know them.

What you may find most alarming is this; they know you. They know where you live and how many children you have, but you know nothing about them.

Most of them are not even Nigerian! They come from Niger and Chad and sleep outside your streets or roam around at night looking for what to steal.

I overheard a group of them joking that if any of their members is killed, they will spill blood before anyone knows what is happening. They did not know that I understand Hausa, so they spoke freely.

If you live in or around southwest , please forward this message to everyone you know. It’s high time we check this massive invasion and force these people to identify themselves.

Let 1966 and 1967 not repeat again, because these men all carry weapons and are just waiting for some sort of signal to use them. Before my very eyes a policeman at Mile 2 tried to impound a motorcycle for parking on the expressway, and a dozen of them drew daggers and threatened to stab him and his colleagues.

This happened on Monday at Mile 2! We are in danger and we don’t seem to know or care. By the time this message gets to the LG Chairman and the State Governor, perhaps they will force these men to begin to carry ID or even reduce their huge numbers.

For many years now, Nigeria has been facing an extreme electricity shortage. This deficiency is multi-faceted, with causes that are financial, structural, and sociopolitical, none of which are mutually exclusive. Nigeria’s power sector has high energy losses from generation to billing, a low collection rate and low access to electricity by the population. There is insufficient cash generation because of these inefficiencies and the power sector is consequently reliant on fuel subsidies and funding of capital projects by the government.

At present only 10 % of rural households and 40% of the country’s total population have access to electricity. Power supply difficulties cripple the agricultural, industrial and mining sectors and impede the Nigeria's ongoing economic development. The energy supply crisis is complex, stems from a variety of issues and has been ongoing for decades.

As of December 2013, the total installed or nameplate capacity (maximum capacity) of the power plants was 6,953 MW. Available capacity was 4,598 MW. Actual average generation was 3,800 MW. As of December 2014, the total installed capacity of the power plants was 7,445 MW.

The minister for power Babatunde Fashola said that 90 million Nigerians lack electricity supply. This is an indictment of the government and a clarion call on that same government as well as other stakeholders to do something urgently about the wobbling electricity supply situation in the country. Every year, the Nigerian government invest huge amout of money in the power sector with no positive impact, something seems not right!

The big question is, are we going to witness a stable power supply in our lifetime , will it ever happen?

NUC unbundles Mass Communication Degree into Seven degree awarding programmes while making Mass Communication to become a Faculty.

The seven new Programmes/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty of Mass Communication are:

5. Film & Multi-Media Studies

NUC splits Mass Comm., 3 other degree programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) says it has unbundled Mass Communication into seven separate degree programmes to meet present demand.

The Commission also said that degree programmes in Agriculture, Architecture and Creative Art have also been split into different ones, with the changes expected to take effect in this year in all universities in the country.

NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, who made this known to newsmen in Abuja, said Mass Communication has been unbundled into Media Studies, Public Relation Studies, Cinematography, among others.

He said the present Agriculture degree programme in the universities is now broken into Forestry, Soil Science, Plant Science and others.

Prof. Rasheed, who dismissed news making round in some quarters that the Federal Government has abolished catchment area as part of criteria for admission into Nigerian universities, said peddlers of such information probably misconstrued the government decision to ensure more national spread of students in all federal universities.

The NUC boss lamented the behaviour of some communities who always want to flood institutions located in their area with their kith and kin, “saying our universities are being dangerously localized”.

On the reports of over 100 fake professors in Nigerian universities, the NUC boss confirmed that there were fake professors in the system but said he was yet to get the real figure.

Speaking further, the NUC boss revealed that there are about 61,000 lecturers teaching in Nigerian universities while only about 10,000 of them are professors.

Rasheed said institutions like polytechnics, colleges of education, inter-university centre as well as research institutes cannot produce professors as only the University’s Senate has the power to promote academic staff to the professorial position.

He expressed worry over the upsurge of illegal degree-awarding institutions, saying the Commission is compiling a comprehensive list of such illegal universities and working with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure that graduates of such institutions and other fake universities from nearby countries are not mobilised for the one-year mandatory service.

I think this country needs spiritual cleansing.

It happened in my community in Edo state, which had no visible trace of any amenities or goods things that the modern society of its level should have. Even her indigens could not made any significant headway in life no matter how educated and hardworking they were. The community was a laughing stock among neighboruring communities to the extent that it was nicknamed "backward place".

This continued to be so from generations to generations. Initially, the reason for this backwardness was blamed on witches and wizards, with concern that the "witch detector" shirine which had been fighting witches became tired of catching and disciplining witches and wizards.

There came a time when one of the indigens walked round the community that he needed to talk to the entire community as he had a vision from God, who has mandated him to take the message to the community that the cause of the backwardness was not as a result of witches and wizards, but it is punishment from God.

Punishment from God! For what offence? Many asked. Then it was revealed that the community leaders had in years back by "magical means" collapsed/destroyed severally and killed some of the early missionary white men who had visited and later built a house and settled in the community. But because the activities of the missionary preachers posed serious threats to the leaders who who formed the bulk of the witches and wizards in the community, they connived to destroy the buildings housing the white missionaries on several occasions. When the missionary people could not bear the incessant destruction of thier houses and property and nobody was able to even trace the debris of the damages and hold any one responsible. One morning, the missionary, packed what is left of thier belongings, pulled thier shoes and raised thier hand to God and placed a curse on the community that it will never see light and shall remain backward forever, except by the mercy of God.

At this point, members of the community began to murmur in despair. Then what is the solution?

The visioner conveyed God's message to the community what God had asked them to do:
Firstly, they must build a house at the actual location that housed the White men's house.
Secondly, call in several priests, including Christian and Islamic clergies to pray round the community for three days while the entire people fast.

Thirdly, get to host a catholic church parish and handover the built house to the church to house thier clergies.

After the revelation from this meeting, the community immediately went into action and did all these, with a fine building, all done through communal labour and donations. The Catholic bishop of Benin Diocese graciously stationed a parish in the community and the house was donated to them. All other rituals as instructed by God were done.

My people, the following year, like magic, officials of the defunct NEPA came and started marking some places, play, play, within six months, the community was electrified. As if that was not enough, the secondary school that had been shot down for long was reopened. Education became a thing of competition among the people. Young men and women started doing well, some emerging millionaires and heads of big firms and government agencies. Competition to build best houses was high, and before they could say jack Robinson, the Edo state government linked the road to the community by tarring it and linking it to other communities.

My people, it has been development upon development in the community.

I think we need spiritual cleansing like that of the above community for our dear country, Nigeria.

HON. COMMISSIONER OF ARTS AND CULTURE, HON ERO IS ON HIS OWN: EDO STATE GOVERNMENT.

Operatives of INTERPOL have arrested Edo State for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, for alleged money laundering.

Ero was reportedly arrested in France since last month for being in possession of $2m.
He was said to have being detained and queried by INTERPOL.

Political opponents claimed the money was given to him by Governor Godwin Obaseki as he was accompanying the Governor to a foreign trip.

Another source said the Commissioner was being questioned for an offence he committed seven years ago.

A top government official, who pleaded anonymity, said the state government was aware of the questioning of Osemwingie-Ero by INTEPOL for a offence committed before he was appointed by Governor Obaseki.

On the sum of $2m found on the Commissioner, the source said it was yet to be confirmed whether any money was found on him.

Political opponents claimed the money was given to him by Governor Godwin Obaseki as he was accompanying the Governor to a foreign trip, while another source said the Commissioner was being questioned for an offence he committed seven years ago.

According to him: “We learnt about the alleged arrest of the Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Commissioner, Hon. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero from unreliable sources on social media and we are unable to confirm either the alleged arrest or what might have led to it.

“But we can confirm without equivocation that whatever the issues might be, they are totally personal and have nothing whatsoever to do with the Edo State Government or Governor Godwin Obaseki.”
