A bus operated by the Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC), was involved in a tragic accident while conveying passengers from Port Harcourt to Uyo, resulting in multiple fatalities. The accident occurred on Friday 20th January, 2023.
According to WonderTV Media correspondent, the bus appeared to have lost control and veered off the road, crashing into a tree. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and several passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. A couple were killed in an accident involving the convoy of Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who represents the Eket Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom South. The accident took place on the Calabar-Itu Highway as Senator Eyakenyi was returning to the state capital, Uyo, from a campaign tour. Senator Eyakenyi is the deputy governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is running as the party's flag-bearer in the 2023 elections.
According to The Nation, the couple, who were riding a motorcycle, were hit by the senator's convoy as it tried to navigate the busy highway. The couple, who left behind three young children, were reportedly killed on the spot.
In the aftermath of the accident, the Akon-Itam community in the Itu Local Government Area began protesting the deaths of the couple. Reports indicate that the protest turned violent, and some officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were injured and their patrol vehicle was damaged by the protesters. The Corps Commander, Mathew Olonisaye, confirmed that only their vehicle was vandalized.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, stated that the situation has since been brought under control following successful negotiations. It is not clear at this time whether any compensation has been offered to the family of the couple killed in the accident.

An unidentified man has been caught stealing a drink “Champari” in one of the supermarkets along Aka Etinan Road in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.
After he was caught and beaten, he was stripped. Upon interrogation, the man disclosed that he stole the drink to celebrate his birthday.
The police have arrested 44-year-old Olumide Agboola for robbing online vendors in Lagos State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the suspect’s modus operandi was to pose as a genuine buyer on social media platforms, order items, and request vendors to supply the items at designated hotels, where he would then rob them.
Hundeyin said, “Police operatives attached to the Makinde Division have arrested 44-year-old Olumide Agboola, who is notorious for robbing online vendors.
“He was arrested following a thorough investigation launched after a number of reports were received about his activities. Different CCTV footage at his various crime scenes has aided in the irrefutable identification of the suspect.
“In his last operation, the suspect dispossessed his victim of her Infinix Hot 9 mobile phone, as well as the assorted fabrics, underpants and singlets she came to sell, all valued at N193,000.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect’s modus operandi was to pose as a genuine buyer on social media platforms, order items and request vendors to supply the items at designated hotels, where he would then rob them. The investigation is ongoing to recover other stolen items from his previous operations.”
A 19-year-old traditional ruler, the Arujale Ojima of Okeluse, Ose council area of Ondo State, Oba Oloyede Adeyeoba Akinghare ll, has graduated from secondary school.
Oba Akinghare, who is said to be the youngest ruling Yoruba monarch, graduated this month.
Recall that he was crowned king in 2019 at the age of 16, after the death of his father.
The monarch shared photos from his graduation ceremony on his Instagram page and thanked his family, school, and everyone for their support.

London born Nigerian musician, Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti popularly known as Femi Kuti has expressed his disdain for supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insinuating that they are a group of slavish characters who, like zombies, are incapable of thinking for themselves and making their own decision.
The musician said he is a smart and independent minded person who can’t be ordered around like a zombie. Peter Obi supporters are known as “Obedience,” as zombies, he added.
Zombie was the title of a studio album released in 1976 by his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, when he excoriated the Nigerian soldiers as a bunch of robotic and senseless individuals. The song, which went on to be one of Fela’s greatest hits, followed a raid on his residence in Lagos at the time.

Oba Babatunde Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife Kingdom has reportedly found love again as he sets to marry a new wife in August.
According to palace sources, the new queen is Mariam Anako, the Administrative Manager of NestOil.
It was learnt that the family introduction was held on February 19, 2022, and was privately done without any fanfare under the strict instruction of the monarch.
Mariam is said to be from the Ebira ethnic group in Kogi State, but her parents are based in Ilorin, Kwara State.
While the Ooni’s new mother-in-law is said to be a retired police officer, it was gathered that Mariam lost her dad at a young age and was brought up in the home of the former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, who led the Nigeria Police Force between 2012 and 2014.
The indication that the Ooni was trying to settle for Mariam as his new wife was strengthened with the renovation of the quarters vacated by the last queen, Naomi, with news spreading round the Palace that a new wife is coming.
This will be Ooni’s fourth official marriage. He has been single since his former wife, Silekunola Naomi left him in December 2021.
The union produced a son, Tadenikawo, who celebrated his first birthday in November 2021 before Naomi left the monarch.
The first marriage of the Ooni to Adebukola (nee Bombata) was troubled before he was installed king but they had to patch things up for the coronation.

In a statement posted on her verified Instagram handle, she announced an end to the three-year marriage.

The Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Fellowship Ministry has distributed food to poor Muslims and orphans in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.
The church said it also gifted “Barka da Sallah” cash to children to promote a good relationship between Christians and Muslims in Kaduna state.
While distributing the items, Yohanna Buru, general overseer of the church, said it is crucial to help the poor Muslims celebrate the season with joy.
He said it is the practice of the church to distribute food to about 600 – 700 people every year but it was increased this time due to the rise in the number of people at the various distribution areas.
Pastor Buru said most of the beneficiaries were street beggars, widows, orphans and some internally displaced persons. The clergy added that the practice, which has lasted 11 years, is aimed at promoting religious tolerance, and interreligious dialogue for peace and unity in the Kaduna State as well as fostering peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians.
He urged wealthy Muslims and Christians around the country to help the needy, widows and orphans to lessen their sufferings, adding that “we are all brothers and sisters and must support each other to live in peace and harmony”.
A suspected female kidnapper, Adeola Omoniyi, has revealed how she had been kidnapping toddlers in communities in Ondo State in the past two years for her father, Ilesanmi Omoniyi, who in turn pays her the sum of N30,000 for each operation.
The 22-year-old suspect disclosed this while being paraded at the police headquarters alongside her father.
Ominiyi, was arrested at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State while on her third mission.
She said “I’m a kidnapper. I do kidnap little children and I always deliver them to my father in his house at Igbotako. I was successful with the first two children I took but I was caught with the third one.
“After delivering the kids to my father, he used to give me N30,000 for each operation. I do use the money to take care of myself. I don’t know what he normally uses the children for. All I do is just to take them to him.
“He was the one that told me to always bring the children to him. I picked the first child from Ilutitun and the from Ilowo.
“It was when I was taking the child away that the mother raised alarm. People gathered to beat me and I was taken to the police station before I was moved to Akure.
“I have been doing the business for about two years. The first one was in 2021 and the second one this year. I always ask the children when they are alone where are they going and I hold their hand and they will follow me.”
However, the father of the suspected criminal who said that her daughter lied against him, # stated that she had been battling with a mental issue.
“My daughter used to stay in Lagos. She used about two years in Lagos. She got sick and they brought her to me in Igbotako. She was stacked naked when they brought her to me.
“I later took her to a church where the pastor said I should pay N80,000. I sold my cassava and I paid the pastor. He later told me that she is better but a few days after he called again that he could not find her as she had left the church.
“I’m the one that she used to bring the kids to. I have never given her N30,000. It was six months after she left the church that we have been looking for her that I heard that she went to steal a child.”
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Funmi Odunlami, maintained that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of an investigation.
A Mexican Mayor, Victor Hugo Sosa of San Pedro Huamelula village has tied the knot with a seven-year-old alligator.
In a short clip posted on the internet, the Mayor could be seen in a white dress and the reptile also appeared in a white garment believed to be a wedding gown.

A former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Reno Omokri in a recent post on his Instagram has revealed that he has been the person behind the Labour Party (LP) flag bearer, Mr Peter Obi’s Twitter account.
The revelation came after a diehard supporter of Peter Obi attacked Mr Reno for using one of Peter Obi’s nuggets in his post.
Mr Reno as usual posted a nugget for his followers advising them on the need to produce rather than consume. Mr Akomas Ikechukwu who sighted the nugget, quickly reacted to it. Mr Ikechukwu stated that Reno took the nugget from Peter Obi’s social media page.
“Consumption cannot make you rich. Only production can. So stop looking for how to chop life. You will end up broke, and then you will hate life. Instead, look for how you will make life. Make things. Then sell them. And in the process, you will chop better life!”, Reno posted.

“Vienna, which slipped to 12th place in our rankings in early 2021 as its museums and restaurants were closed, has since rebounded to first place, the position it held in 2018 and 2019,” it said.
“Stability and good infrastructure are the city’s main charms for its inhabitants, supported by good healthcare and plenty of opportunities for culture and entertainment.”
The Niger State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected thugs in its continued bid to curtail acts of thuggery, youth restiveness, and other crime and criminality in Minna, the state capital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, made the disclosure in a statement issued to journalists in Minna.
He said they were arrested through a combined team of police operatives mobilised from the Department of Operations, Bosso and Minna Area Commands.
According to him, the effort was another round of raids on criminal hideouts within the metropolis which include Angwan-Daji, Angwan-Kanawa, Limawa, Maitumbi, Barkin-Sale and Makera area of Bosso and Chanchaga LGAs of the state.
The suspects arrested include Umaru Ibrahim aged 20yrs, Abba Adamu aged 29yrs, Nuhu Alhassan aged 20yrs, Abubakar Ahmed aged 21yrs, Abubakar Mohammed aged 16yrs, Lukman Isah aged 21yrs, Danjuma Musa aged 36yrs, Philimon Ishaku aged 17yrs, Aminu Hassan aged 20yrs, ThankGod Sunday aged 19yrs, Ayuba Timothy aged 18yrs, Danjuma Musa Haruna aged 18yrs, Abdulkarim Mohammed aged 17yrs and Kabiru Usman aged 23yrs.
Others are Usman Isah aged 19yrs, Musa Yusuf aged 21yrs, Kabiru Yahaya aged 18yrs, Masa’udu Yunusa aged 16yrs, Inyas Musa aged 21yrs, Nasiru Abdullahi aged 21yrs, Musa Suleiman aged 21yrs and Jabir Suleiman aged 18yrs.
He reiterated the commitment of the command to explore the administration of the criminal justice system and partner with the judiciary towards a diligent prosecution of the suspects arrested with reference to previous criminal records of each suspect.
However, he urged members of the public, parents, and guardians to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies towards achieving a crime-free environment in the state.
The statement further reassured that the Command will not relent in its efforts to ensure that miscreants who specialise in disturbance of public peace, most especially in Minna metropolis are effectively dealt with in accordance.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include; one saw, seven cutlasses, eight wraps of suspected cannabis, one pair of scissors, two knives, sticks, and a bottle containing illicit substances.
