The operatives of Oyo State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of a bank robbery gang, including a contract staff/marketer in a new generation bank while planning to attack one of the financial institutions a week ago.
The criminal gang was said to have specialised in carrying out well-coordinated robbery attacks in banks.
The suspects were identified as Mayowa Kehinde (29), the contract staff/marketer with a new generation bank; Abass Azeez, aged 42; Ridwan Eniola, aged 33; Mistura Akinade (33); Abass Aderoju (41) and Akeem Adeniyi (37).
Making this known on Monday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, said that they were nabbed at their Agara Odo-Ona hideout along Akala Expressway, Ibadan, on Monday, June 13 at about 9 pm after allegedly concluding plans to carry out a robbery attack on another new generation bank within the metropolis in the early hours of Tuesday, June 14.
The PPRO further stated that the suspects had confessed to their involvements in bank robbery operations which included arms procurement and clandestine intelligence gathering ahead of the proposed date of perpetrating the dastardly act.
He said: “While comprehensive investigations are in progress to crack down on the criminal network and other accomplices, the Oyo State Police Command enjoins the good people of the State to continue partnering with the police in terms of providing timely and credible information valuable in curbing criminality and maintaining the relative tranquillity enjoyed in the state.”
Osifeso also urged residents to always reach out to the Command through emergency control room numbers and NPF ‘RescueMe’ app which could be downloaded for free on both Android and Apple IOS.

Worshippers at the Adoration Ministry have expressed their displeasure with the Catholic Church's sanction following Fr Ejike Mbaka's attack on Peter Obi.
Recall that Bishop Onaga issued a ban on activities at the Adoration Ground in Enugu on Friday. He said some of the teachings and utterances of Mbaka “are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church”.
Thousands of members of Adoration Ministry, Enugu have besieged the Adoration protesting against the suspension of the Director, Rev. Fr. Ejike Calistus Mbaka and the subsequent closure of the ministry.
One of them was seen shouting, "No more bishop".
The adorers were seen in their thousands carrying fresh palm fronts and shouting all sorts of unprintable words against the Enugu Diocese for allegedly "caging" their Director for "speaking the truth".
One of the protesters, Miss Kenechi Ugwu told our reporter that " I am not happy with this new development. How can you close a place like this? Do you know how many people draw their inspiration, courage and power from this ministry? Nigeria is very hard and harsh now. Only this kind can give us the courage to move on in life."
Miss Ugwu, a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT stressed that " I have been a member of this ministry since my undergraduate years. I finished five years and I have not got work, but I know that God will do it. "
Another who spoke to our reporter said that his brother has been working with Aqua Rapha bottle water and feared that with the present condition of the ministry, the company may be thrown into low patronage and subsequent closure as well.

The Diocese of Enugu has prohibited Catholics from attending Rev. Fr. Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry.
Catholic Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Calistus Onaga, announced the ban on Mbaka’s Church on Saturday.
This is coming amid Mbaka’s open castigation and denigration of a Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party over his frugality.
In a letter he personally signed, addressed to ‘All the Clery, Religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’, Bishop Onaga banned them from having anything to do with the Adoration Ministry.
He said in the letter that Mbaka having refused to heed to the Church’s persistent directives, “and in fulfillment of my pastoral duties as the Chief Shepherd”, “I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending all religious and liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded”.
While noting that his decision was based on the fact that Mbaka’s teaching and utterances were not in tandem with the teachings of the Catholic Church, he enjoined “all Christian faithful to keep praying for Fr. Mbaka”.
Three military officers participating in the Democracy Day Parade slumped at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The incident happened on Monday and it is believed the officers succumbed to exhaustion having stood for hours on one spot under the scorching sun.
According to a source, some security and medical personnel rushed to the parade ground with stretchers and whisked the collapsed colleagues to the medical shed on the left side of the State Box where President Muhammadu Buhari was seated.
However, no casualties were recorded as they were successfully treated and soon regained consciousness.

A leader of the unknown gunmen terrorising the South East region, Nnahadi Michael, has allegedly been arrested in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA Anambra State.
According to a Facebook user, Ikechukwu Onyia, the suspect who claimed to be a commander in the group, was said to have been arrested on Sunday.
Onyia, who shared pictures and videos of the arrested commander said: “At about 1.35pm, today at Ebenator-Udene Village, Amichi, Nnewi South LGA, Nnahadi Michael, was arrested by special tactical teams.
“He was unveiled as part of a gang operating as Unknown Gunmen, UGM, while enforcing Sit At Home order at Amichi, extorting money and causing mayhem.”
In the video, the culprit confessed to having only killed three persons since he joined the group.
Speaking in Igbo, the culprit said: “We only tied them to confess if they were politicians, but two died. It was only one that was shot dead.
“As for the one that was beheaded, it was not me that beheaded him. I had not been made the commander then, but I joined them during that operation. Our commander then is now dead,” he said.
Onyia in his post stated that the culprit’s main cohort, Chikwendu Mbonu, a witch doctor of Obiagu is still at large but his Shrine was destroyed, while the suspect is presently in command custody for further interrogation.
A 25-year-old teacher identified as Ayobami Oluwatobiloba Runsewe who works in a nursery and primary school in Ago Iwoye has been arrested for defiling a 13-year-old female pupil.
Ayobami Oluwatobiloba Runsewe was apprehended on May 19th by men of the Ogun state police command.
The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Ago Iwoye divisional headquarters by the victim’s mother, who came to the station with the victim and reported that the suspect lured the victim to his house in the Ayegbami area of Ago Iwoye after the school lesson at about 4:30 pm and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The blood-soaked pant of the victim was brought to the station as evidence.
Upon the report, the DPO Ago Iwoye, SP Noah Adekanye detailed his detectives to the scene, where the randy teacher was promptly arrested.
On interrogation, he initially denied having anything with the victim, but when the victim confronted him, he was unable to say anything further.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi. said the state commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

A 32-year-old kidnapped victim, Jideofor Attama has been rescued and two suspected kidnappers arrested by the police in Anambra State.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, May 18th, said the kidnappers abducted Attama last week along Nnewi road and demanded N10m ransom from his family.
“Anambra State Police Command operatives, on 17/5/2022 rescued a kidnap victim, one Jideofor Attama aged 32yrs ‘M’ from Igboetiti of Enugu State,” the statement read.
“Mr Attama was abducted on 14/5/2022 at about 10pm along Nnewi road in his Rava 4 jeep, by a gang of five armed men operating with a Toyota Sienna vehicle, with Registration number KGE 117 PZ Imo State, ash Colour and whisked away to an unknown destination.
“The kidnap gang was in fact already asking for Ten (#10) million naira ransom from the victim’s family but fortunately, the victim escaped from where he was kept and alerted the security guards in the area. The police operatives were also contacted and immediately came to his rescue
“Following the successful rescue of the victim, the police operatives arrested two of the suspects, one Chukwudere Eze, aged 30years, ‘M’ of Ogbunka in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State and Raphael Obasi aged 40years, ‘M’ of Arodizuogu in Imo State. The operatives also recovered brown Toyota Sienna.”
“In another development on 16/5/2022, at about 4:30pm, the Command, while responding to a distress call on the attack on the vigilante office, engaged some hoodlums in a gun duel along Ifite road, Awka.
“In a bid to flee from the Police operatives, the gunmen abandoned three of their vehicles one brown Lexus Jeep, a black Toyota Corolla, without registration number and a brown Mercedes Benz with registration number AA 274 EYF.
“Unfortunately, during the encounter four vigilante operatives sustained fatal wounds. The Police also recovered one automatic Pump action gun, thirty rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, six live cartridges and one live SMG ammunition.”

Some concerning youths and members of the public under the aegis of Justice League Chamber of Nigeria, have on Tuesday protested in Abuja over the demolition of the house of Tonto Dike’s ex-lover, Joseph Egbri, popularly known as Prince Kpokpogri.
Kpokpogri had on Saturday alleged that his building at Guzape worth over N700m was unlawfully demolished by the FCDA without notice.

A 31-years old man Michael Ali was on Saturday arrested, by operatives of Nsukka Urban Police command for allegedly spying, filming and taking pictures of High Way to Grace Assembly Church, Nsukka, with a drone camera.
A Police officer in Area Command who pleaded anonymity confirmed the arrest of Ali and said that they responded to a distress call From Rev Chikamadu Eze, the Founder and General Overseer of the church around 8.30am.
“Police from Nsukka area command rushed to the church compound at Alor-Uno Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State and arrested the suspect together with the drone and a smartphone.
“Police has commenced investigations to unravel his mission in that church and possibly identify those who sent him to spy the church environment,” he said.
In a chat with newsmen, Rev Eze said that he was shocked when he saw the drone hovering around his church premises while the operator was hiding in a nearby bush.
According to Rev Eze whose residential house is within the church compound, “I stepped out of my house around 8am and noticed a strange sound of a flying object. On a closer look, I saw a drone camera hovering around the church and my private residence, filming and taking pictures.
“After some minutes the drone flies back to a nearby bush where Ali, the operator was hiding and operating it.
“I followed the drone to the bush, where I caught him and immediately alerted the police who responded promptly and arrested him.
“From all indications, his target is to film and capture pictures of the church and my compound as the drone did not fly over any other building or compound around the area.
“This is a serious security breach and a threat to my church and my household because Ali equally captured my image with the aid of the drone without revealing his agenda for doing so,” he said.
The Cleric, however, threatened to sue Ali in court should he refuse to confess his evil agenda against his family and the church.
Meanwhile, Ali who is from Agu-Ibeji Community, in Igbo-Eze North LGA told our reporter before he was whisked away by the police that he is only an independent filmmaker filming the environment for a film documentary.
Ali however, did not give a clear answer when asked why he choose to hide in a bush to operate his camera drone, and why he did not identify with the residents before filming the environment.
At the time of filing this report, Ali was still with the Nsukka Urban Police Divisional Headquarters, responding to some investigative questions on his action.
The Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) has organised a nationwide protest to demand justice for Deborah Samuel, a 200-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, who was burnt to death within the school premises on Thursday for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.
CAN directs churches across the country to join the protest.
CAN made the call via a circular that was released by the General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, on Saturday, and obtained by SaharaReporters. According to SaharaReporters, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has directed all churches in the country and Christian stakeholders to hold a peaceful protest nationwide over the gruesome killing of Deborah Yakubu by a mob of Muslim youths in Sokoto State for alleged blasphemy.
The circular which was titled, “A REQUEST FOR NATIONWIDE PEACEFUL PROTESTS, CALLING FOR JUSTICE FOR DEBORAH YAKUBU” reads, “I have been directed by the CAN President, His Eminence. Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo A. Ayokunle, to request all church leaders, through your various churches to organise a PEACEFUL PROTEST in honour of one of our daughters, DEBORAH YAKUBU who was gruesomely murdered on Thursday, 12th May, 2022 at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto in Sokoto State by some Islamic extremists.
“The protest will take place on 22nd May, 2022 in the afternoon by 3pm in every secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) nationwide and not on the streets in order to avoid further loss of lives. Those without CAN’s Secretariat may use any church with big premises. “We are to hold placards with some succinct message like “WE DEMAND JUSTICE FOR DEBORAH,” “NO MORE KILLING IN GOD’S NAME”, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” “POLICE, STOP UNPROVOKED KILLINGS IN NIGERIA, “CHRISTIANS ARE NOT SECOND CLASS CITIZENS,” “KILLERS OF DEBORAH MUST BE PROSECUTED,” “WE CONDEMN RELIGIOUS KILLINGS,” “WE SAY NO TO ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS.”

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Aliyu Tilde, has condemned the statement that led to the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, by her colleagues over alleged blasphemy.
Recall that the victim, a 200-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, was burnt to death within the school premises on Thursday for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.
Tilde, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the female student on his Facebook wall, added that Nigerians who are not provoked by her statement should visit a psychiatrist for a test.
The commissioner who headlined his post with the caption “Deborah: Words Can Kill”, wrote in the Hausa language, “Ba wai an yi group din nan don ture-turen abubuwan banza ba ne fa. An yi don past Q, in akwai test, in an ba da assignment, a tura. Ba wai abubuwan banzan ga za ku tuttura mana ba. Manzon Allah din me?“ ———————- Ayyah. Baki shi ke yanka wuya.”

Captain Jamil Abubakar, a son-in-law of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has justified the killing of blasphemers.
Jamil, an experienced pilot and the President of the JMD Foundation, a non-profit organization, stated this in a Friday night tweet.
Jamil, who is the son of former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar, made the remarks in the aftermath of the death of Deborah Samuel, a student in Sokoto State who was killed by her classmates for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.

A Lady who chose to study Law with an aim of getting her convicted father out of prison has taken to her social media page to celebrate after she finally made her dream come through.
According to the young lady, her father was given a life sentence for a non-violent drug crime when she was 4-years-old. She decided to study law when she grew up in order to get him out of prison.
The excited lady who shared pictures of herself and her father said her father was released from prison just when she was about to graduate from school. The lady further revealed that her father has spent twenty years in prison.
Sharing the picture she wrote;
"I went to law school because my dad was sentenced to life in prison for non-violent drug crimes. I did what I could to get him out. He did 20 years and got out right in time for my graduation. Been gone since I was 4."
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a self-acclaimed prophet, Benson Nosakhare, for allegedly defrauding members of the public with fake prophecies.
Nosakhare was arrested after one of his victims, Mr. Osamudiamen Thompson, petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, alleging that he was hypnotized and his car collected by the suspect. Thompson, who claimed he was hypnotized, said he gifted the ‘prophet’ his car after he told him he saw him in a vision where he had an accident with his Lexus ES 350 car.
The victim further claimed that after he came back to his senses, he noticed that the prophet had already changed the color of the car from gold to black and was already using it.
A statement released by Edo police spokesperson, SP Bello Kontongs, confirming the arrest, reads, “The operatives of Edo State Police Command on 03/05/2022 arrested a fraudster masquerading as prophet Benson Nosakhare ‘M’ who prey on gullible members of the public through the use of false prophecy and divine pronouncements.
“One of his victims Mr. Osamudiamen Thompson ‘M’ of Osemwenkhae Street, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City in a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police Edo State, complained that he was hypnotized by prophet Benson Nosakhare ‘M’ of Power Ground Chapel Incorporated situated at No. 3 Uwa street off 2nd East Circular Road, Benin city. “According to the victim, the prophet claimed he saw him in a vision where he had an accident with his Lexus ES 350 car. He said the prophet told him that for him to avert the accident he should use the car to sow seed to the Lord which he did in his church.
“He further stated that after he came back to his senses, he noticed that the prophet had already changed the color of the car from gold to black and was already using it. “The suspect had confessed to the crime and will be charged in court accordingly. The following cars were recovered during a search of his apartment in Benin City. A Lexus ES 350 car and Lexus RX 350 jeep were obtained from Odigie Godspower using the same fake prophetic pronouncements”.
A Nigerian man has called out a girl who absconded with his money despite the fact he was trying to help her.
He said that he mistakenly sent N30,000 to her instead of N3,000 but she decided to block him after receiving the money.
According to the man, he met her on Facebook where she pleaded for assistance, so he decided to help not knowing that she would pay him back with wickedness.
He shared screenshots of their chat, where she begged for money to cook that she is starving. He took pity on her and tried sending N3k but mistakenly sent N30k.
When he realised the mistake, he asked the lady to send N25k back to him and keep N5k, but her next line of action was to block him.
Omoyele Sowore, founder of Sahara Reporters and presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress (AAC) party, has held a rally inside a river in Ondo State.
Sowore paid a visit to his home state and took his campaign to Ondo Lake, where he playfully plunged in with his supporters.
According to Sahara Reporters, Sowore, who addressed his supporters inside the lake, emphasised the importance of tourism to any economy.
He said: “This is where we go fishing and farming in our part of the world. It is one of the most beautiful places you can be in the country and even in the world.
“This is the reason why we keep talking about tourism, imagine in this lake, there are chalets, places where people can come and visit and stay for weeks.
“They can also fish, every fish here is natural. The only problem is oil pollution from the Niger Delta Area and people can no longer drink the water here. Everything you see here is natural.
“This is how it has always been and this is a perfect ecosystem, it is an environment that suits the dream of environmentalists, we also have farmlands around the river.
“This lake goes all the way to the Niger Delta region. This is a lovely place to be and anytime I come around, I always love to be here because this is for me, a home.
“I heard the governor of Ondo State, in one of their jamborees was saying they want to create a fish pond inside the lake, they don’t have sense.”

A blind grandmother, Mrs Bassey Ekong, has rescued two children, Gideon Edet and Kingsley Edet from the hands of suspected ritualists in Akwa Ibom State.
The children were reportedly rescued after their parents allegedly completed a negotiation to sell them for N50,000 and N20,000 respectively, due to poverty.
Speaking with a source, Mrs Ekong said she intervened by threatening to curse the mother of the kids, who was her second daughter.
According to the woman, who hails from Mbiokporo, in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, when their mother, a housewife, gave birth to the first son, their father was jobless She added that a friend of their mother later linked the family to ritualists, who offered to buy the children.
Ekong explained that the parents conspired to sell the children but when they told her, she cursed them and vowed to report the matter to the police, which made them abandon the children.
“I suffered to raise the children by engaging in menial jobs and weeding people’s farms for meagre wages, just to keep the kids,” Ekong added.
She said when the children were of school age, she enrolled them at St. George’s Primary School, Aka Offot, Uyo, for their primary education, adding that to cater for their educational needs had become difficult for her.
The grandmother, now blind, said she could not fend for the children anymore as they could not eat.
“I cry for these children each day they leave for school without food and no writing materials in class. Now, I can’t help them. Their parents ran away as they failed in their plot to sell them to ritualists,” she added.
She appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government and non-governmental organisations to assist her in training the children as their parents had abandoned them.
One Alhaja Mariam has fled after brutalising a 10-year-old girl identified simply as Victory for using N100 to buy bun, popularly known as puff-puff in Lagos state.
The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Lakwe, in Ibeju Lekki area of the state.
Recounting her ordeal to the police, Victory who works for the suspect at a POS centre said she got the beating of her life after her madam discovered that she used her N100 to buy bun because she was hungry.
Victory said, “On arrival, my madam demanded to know what I did with the N100. I told her that I bought puff-puff with it because I was hungry. She then started beating me and later put a kitchen knife in the fire and placed it on my back.”
It was gathered that the suspect was arrested and detained at the Elemoro police station but was later released.
The police at Elemoro claimed that the suspect was allowed to go because she was pregnant and had a baby to take care of.
Neighbours who are worried by the twist in the incident and the alleged bias on the part of the police are urging the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alade, to step into the matter to ensure justice come the way of the girl.
The state police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the police had ordered the arrest of the fleeing suspect, saying, “Be sure that by the time she is arrested she would be made to face the wrath of the law.”
