One Mu’azu Magaji Danbala has been remanded in prison by the Kano State Magistrate Court sitting in Nomansland for allegedly defaming Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his two sons.
The suspect was accused of making the defamatory statement on Facebook against the governor and two of his children, Abdul’aziz and Balaraba.
Danbala and another accused Jamila Shehu, who is at large, were arraigned for the alleged Conspiracy, Intentional Insult, Inciting Public disturbance and defamation of character contrary to Section 97, 114, 391 and 399 of the Penal Code.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) on the 26th October 2021, the Chairman Nassarawa LGA, Auwal Lawal Shuaibu, reported to the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Kano Command and complained against the duo, both of Sabon Garin Kiru, Kiru LGA, Kano State.
”That on the same date you both conspired and posted on the Facebook platform, the image and portrait of His Excellency, Executive Governor of Kano State, including his children Abdulaziz Ganduje and Balaraba Ganduje, with a bold written on it ‘Barayin Kano’ (Kano thieves) knowing fully well that your action may result to breach of peace within the state and outside. You are therefore suspected to have committed the above mention offences”, the FIR stated.
The suspect, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and thereafter the defence counsel applied for his bail.
The court thereafter ordered the suspect to be remanded in a custodial facility after his bail application was objected to by the prosecution counsel, Barrister Wada Ahmad Wada, a Principal State Counsel.
The presiding judge, Aminu Gabari, also ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Police Headquarters to produce the case diary before the court would determine whether or not to admit the suspect to bail.
The case has been adjourned to 8th November for further mention.
A deported woman, who reportedly dumped her two daughters inside well water in Osogbo, Osun state, has blamed her action on economic hardship.
The woman, whose name was yet unknown, claimed that she was deported from Omar in the United Arab Emirate, where she had been working and living peacefully.
It was gathered that the woman perpetrated the act at Koledowo street, Ibuaje area, behind Ilesa Motor Park, along Ilesa, Osogbo, on Monday evening.
The incident, however, caused pandemonium in the area when residents discovered what happened.
It was gathered that the two girls were between ages seven and five as residents wondered why the woman took such a decision.
The woman, whose voice was incoherent, said she was deported from abroad and life has been difficult for her.
She said that the ‘glory of her daughters had been used’ when she was away from home, hence the decision to throw them into the well water.
She said she was frustrated and she could not do anything other than throw the two girls into the well.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts were still on by the police and the people of the community to evacuate the two girls from the well.
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday arrested a housewife, Memunat Salaudeen, for allegedly hiring three men to kidnap her husband.
The wife, who accused her husband of being stingy, was reported to have hired the accomplices — Olayinka Lawal, Asungba Nura and Usman Oluwatoyin — to kidnap her husband and take a ransom from him.
Nemesis, however, caught up with them when the police apprehended the suspects during a stop and search on the Papa-Itori Road.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects were apprehended around 6.30pm by a Federal Highway Patrol team, led by Inspector Sunday Imohiosen.
He said the police team accosted the men, who looked suspicious while on a motorcycle.
Oyeyemi said, “While searching them, a cutlass and a new strong rope was recovered from them.
“The team quickly separated them and questioned them individually about their mission in that area with a rope and a cutlass.
“The three of them gave different answers to the question. This further aroused the suspicion of the policemen, who then decided to interrogate them more.
“In the course of interrogation, the three of them confessed that it was a woman who was later identified as Memunat Salaudeen that gave them the sum of N8,000 to buy a cutlass and a rope strong enough to tie a human being.
“They confessed further that the woman, who is a nurse in their area at Balogun Tuntun Gasline, Ifo, asked them to go and hide somewhere along that road, and that she would lure her husband to the place where they would kidnap him and tie him with the rope and then ask for ransom.
“They further informed the police that the woman told them that that was the only way she could get money from her husband whom she accused of being very stingy despite having money.
“It was the place they were going to according to their plan when they were intercepted by the police.
“The woman was subsequently brought to the scene, and on seeing the arrested suspects, she admitted to being the brains behind the whole thing.
“She told the policemen that her husband had not been giving her money and that she decided to plan his kidnap in order to get money from him at all cost.”
The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced 26 years old Adewale Adesanmi and 24 years old Olumide Arogundade to 21 years imprisonment each for snatching a bag and forcibly collecting wristwatch, phone and N4,000 from a traveller.
The convicts were charged to court and tried on the counts of robbery and conspiracy.
In the court judgement, Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde said, “The prosecution has discharged the evidential burden placed on the defendants in law with respect to the offences of conspiracy and robbery.
“In count one (conspiracy) they are sentenced to seven years imprisonment and 21 years imprisonment each in count two. The sentences are to run concurrently.”
Justice Abodunde, however, ordered that the four years already spent in custody be deducted from the sentences of the convicts.
According to the charge, “Adesanmi and Arogundade on January 4, 2016, at Ajebamidele Junction, Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti did conspire to rob one Damilola Oladosu of his belongings, contrary to sections 516 and 402 (2)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012”.
In her statement, the victim, Oladosu, said, “I was travelling to Ikere Ekiti around 11:00 p.m when the defendants, who were on a motorcycle, snatched my bag containing clothes, books, certificates and also collected my wristwatch, Infinix phone, wallet and a sum of N4000.
“They ran away, but I was able to get the motorcycle’s registration number. I thereafter reported the matter at Ologede Police Station along Ikere Ekiti Road in Ado Ekiti.”
The prosecutor, Ronke Odetola, called three witnesses and tendered statements of the defendants and victim as exhibits.
The defendants also spoke in their own defence and called no witness.
The Lagos State Government has reacted to a viral video where pupils were seen in a flooded school assembly ground, WonderTV Media reports.
In the video, the pupils of primary school age were seen singing the national anthem, knee-deep in murky floodwaters.
However, in reaction to the video, the Lagos State Ministry of Education on its Facebook page stated that the building has been demolished and being built.

Ismaila Wasiu, who is one of the two men caught with a fresh human head, other body parts and body stump of a female victim, in Saki town, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, has said that he once bought a dry skull to carry out a ritual for a fraudster (Yahoo boy) before he graduated into using fresh skull.
He also revealed that he was the one who lured his female friend, Mujidat, to Saki from Lagos State, with a pre-plan to make use of her fresh head and body parts for more money than what he made for the yahoo boy.
Wasiu, 29, and his friend, Mutairu Shittu, aged 35, were arrested by policemen from Saki Division for murder after they were found with the fresh human head and other body parts.
The state police command’s spokesman, DSP Adewale Osifeso, had disclosed on Wednesday, that detectives received credible intelligence from residents of the Ayekale area of the town at about 2:30 am on Monday, about the suspects’ possession of the fresh human head.
The PPRO, in a statement, had said: “Following the receipt of operational and intelligence assets of the Oyo State Police Command attached to Saki Divisional Police Headquarters immediately swung into action which resulted in the arrest of the duo, the recovery of the fresh human head and the dismembered body of the victim who has been identified to be one Mujidat ‘f’.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was lured from Lagos through a phone call by one of the suspects, particularly Ismaila Wasiu, before the perpetration of the dastardly act. The dismembered body has been deposited at the morgue, while intensive investigation regarding the incident continues.”
Enjoining the state residents to draw lessons from the victim’s murder, he added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, also urged all law-abiding members of the public to cooperate with the police by giving timely information, which would help the command’s crusade against crime and criminality.
The Nigerian Correctional Service has, on Wednesday, released the names and images of 122 inmates who escaped from the Abolongo Custodial Centre in Oyo State.
The inmates had escaped the correctional centre on Friday, October 22, 2021, after unidentified gunmen attacked the facility.
The PUNCH had reported that the Federal Government had enlisted the help of Interpol in recapturing the fleeing inmates when the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola visited the facility after the incident.
As of Monday, October 24, The PUNCH reported that 463 inmates had been recaptured with more than 300 still at large.
However, it is unclear if the names and images released are the remaining inmates who are still at large.
A notorious burglar, Ajibola Lateef has been apprehended by the personnel of the Osun Western Security Network, Amotekun Osun, on Monday, at Asamu, in Ola-Oluwa Local Government of Osun State.
Information made available to DAILY POST at the point of arrest by Amotekun personnel revealed that Lateef has been terrorising Asamu and Telemu, two towns in the Local Government, with charms and other dangerous weapons.
He met his waterloo when one of the residents of Asamu town got in touch with the security outfit as he was about to perpetrate another evil act.
The security outfit swung into action, arrested him as he was trying to sneak into the house of the residents and promptly handed him over to the personnel of the Nigeria Police, Ola-Oluwa Division.
When contacted, the Field Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Amitolu Shittu, confirmed the arrest, adding that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
Amitolu also revealed that the suspects had been handed over to the Ola-Oluwa Police Division which is investigating the crime.
According to him, “He was arrested by the operatives of Amotekun after a distress call was made by residents of the town.”.
Amitolu explained that he confessed to terrorising the two towns armed with charms and dangerous weapons.
On enquiry, it was made known that the case has not been transferred to the Osun State Police Command, Osogbo.
The Islamic police in Kano State known as Hisbah have arrested a 26-year-old man, Aliyu Na Idris, who was trending on social media last weekend for putting himself up for sale due to what he called poverty.
Hisbah Commander, Harun Ibn Sina, confirmed the arrest to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), adding that Aliyu Na Idris’ actions were forbidden.
“Yes we arrested him on Tuesday and he spent the night with us. What he did is forbidden in Islam, you can’t try to sell yourself no matter your condition or situation,” the commander said.
The arrested tailor, who had been speaking to journalists before his arrest, said he was in a huge financial mess, hence his decision to put a N20 million price tag on his person promising to wholeheartedly serve his buyer.
“The decision to sell myself was due to poverty, I plan to give my parents N10 million when I eventually get a buyer, pay N5 million as tax to the government, give N2 million to anyone who helped me get a buyer and keep the remaining for daily upkeep,” Aliyu told journalists in Kano before his arrest.
58-year-old Nigerian pilot, Jibril Adamu, and his counterpart from the United States of America, Jean-Claude Okongo Landji, 58, are awaiting sentencing after a US jury returned guilty verdicts against them on Monday for conspiring to traffic cocaine to West Africa.
The pilots were charged for using a private jet to traffic five kilograms and more of cocaine on board an aircraft from South America to West Africa.
They were found guilty of one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine with a United States citizen on board any aircraft or registered in the United States, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
In October 2018, Landji and Adamu were arrested while conducting a test shipment and flew the G2 private jet from Mali to Croatia with one kilogram of cocaine on board after members of the Croatian National Police investigating the duo in coordination with the DEA searched the G2 following their arrival in Croatia.
Gulfstream G2 private jet owned by Landji was a United States-registered aircraft whose pilots planned to distribute multi-ton quantities of cocaine in South America, Africa, Europe, and elsewhere, a court document revealed.
According to the document – as reflected in the Indictment and the evidence presented at trial – the duo in 2017 planned to use the G2 and other aircraft “black flight” – unregistered and untraceable – figuratively flying under the radar with multi-thousand kilogram loads of cocaine from South America to West Africa to be unloaded at clandestine airstrips, including landing sites in the Sahara desert.
After the cocaine was off-loaded in Africa, the indictment stated that Adamu and his co-pilot planned to use Landji’s aviation business, incorporated in the state of Georgia, as cover for cocaine smuggling flights to Europe and elsewhere.
“Landji agreed to use his company to arrange seemingly legitimate passenger “VIP” flights to Europe for which Adamu would serve as a pilot while concealing multi-ton quantities of cocaine hidden onboard for further distribution in European countries,” Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York disclosed.
Adam and his co-conspirator further sought to evade the scrutiny of the DEA and U.S. law enforcement to avoid the U.S. justice system.
In their recorded meeting, Landji agreed to traffic cocaine by aircraft with a co-conspirator, Adamu who warned, “if you put one kilo on a plane that has the American registration, it’s the same thing as putting it in the middle of Madison Square Garden in New York. The same offence in the US justice system.”
A 70-year-old man, Alhaji Umaru Daura, has been arrested by police officers assigned to the Nigeria Police Zone 12 Command headquarters in Bauchi State for defiling his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter.
This was revealed in a press release signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Thomas Goni and made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Goni, a Superintendent of Police (SP), stated that the incident happened at Kawo Rauta village, in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The zonal police image maker stated that the victim’s father, one Alhaji Habu, reported the case to the police, saying that, the suspect was caught red-handed defiling his seven-year-old daughter.
Goni added that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12, Bauchi, AIG Audu A. Madaki, has directed that the suspect be charged to court after completion of the investigation.

A Kaduna based tricycle operator identified as Ayuba Yusuf, who returned ₦100,000 forgotten by a passenger, has narrated how some members of the public condemned him for returning the money to the owner.
The tricyclist who is a Diploma holder in Public Administration disclosed that although few people commended him, a lot more scolded him for being ‘foolish’ for returning such amount in this ‘time of hardship’.
Narrating how it happened, the tricycle operator said on 19th October, a lady with children flagged him at exactly 6.45 pm, barely 15 minutes to when the tricyclist must be off the road for the day.
“I told her it was late but she pleaded with me to help her, as she had some small children, and was probably returning from a trip.
“Out of pity, I obliged, and at great risk, after which she paid her fare and I left hurriedly to beat the 7 pm closing time fixed by the state government.
“But upon reaching home, I saw a bag forgotten in my tricycle, apparently belonging to the woman, and upon opening same, saw some clothing materials, cosmetics, and money, which I decided not to touch,” he narrated.
Yusuf, aged 44, and father of four children, said he drew the attention of his wife and they both resorted to listening to the radio to hear if the owner would sponsor an announcement.
“My wife later heard an announcement on the missing bag through Liberty Radio, Kaduna, and drew my attention, after which I returned the items, including the money.
“The woman was so elated that she gave me ₦10,000 out of the money, which I rejected, but she insisted that I should accept same.
“Some people at the station intervened by insisting that I accept the gift, which I did reluctantly by collecting only ₦4,000, and giving some others at the scene, N6,000 to share,” he said.
Yusuf, who took to the commercial tricycle transportation business for lack of a white-collar job upon graduation, explained that the tricycle he was riding belonged to someone else and that his weekly returns to the owner, was ₦15,000.
He said his greatest disappointment was that while some people lauded his sense of honesty, a lot more castigated him for, in their words, being “foolish enough to return such amount of money in this hard times”.
Three Arrested In Ogun For Allegedly Beating Man To Death Over Allegations Of Stealing An iPhone 6
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three men for beating one Tunji George to death over an allegation of stealing an iPhone 6, WonderTV Media reports.
Spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement identified the suspects as; Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa, and Oluwatobi Michael,
Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a report by one Bola George who reported at Onipanu divisional headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen an iPhone 6 at Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, consequent upon which the deceased was tied with rope in the hotel and tortured to death.
Having realized that the victim was about to give up the ghost, the suspects quickly rushed him to a hospital, but before they got to the hospital, the victim had died.
Upon the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, CSP Bamidele Job, mobilized his men and moved to the scene, where two of the suspects were apprehended, while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel where the did was done.
On interrogation, the suspects informed the police that they strongly suspected the deceased as the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to torture him not knowing that it will result in his death.
The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the general hospital mortuary Ota for autopsy.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution. He also warned that the command under his leadership will not tolerate any form of jungle justice and whoever engaged in such activity, no matter his status or position will not be spared from punishment under the law.
