ekitikan:

Eweka I & the begining of Oba Era
{About1200AD-1235AD}

After the banishment of Owodo; the last Ogiso under the {Ogiso periods} for misrule Evain who had earlier distinguished himslf as a brave man by destroying the man-eating Osogan, was appointed as an adminstrator who ruled Benin for nearly 40 years. At his old age, Evian nominated his son Ogiamien as a successor. Unfortunately, this nomination did not go well with the Edo people who maintained that succession to the the throne is always applicables to kings and not to commoners to which class Evian belonged. Spear headed by Oliha, there was a serious agitation to bring back the monarch.

The nation was thrown into a state of internecine war and as a way out the elders {led by Oliha} went on a search party to look for Ikaladerhan {the barnished son of the last Ogiso Owodo} who had for some time taken refure at Uhe {or Ife as is now known}. The seach party reached Uhe to meet Ikaladerhan already enjoying the status of a king. The Edo people could not persuade him to reture home. nevertheless,Ikaladerhan now known as Ododuwa agreed to send his son if only the Benin could take care of him.

This is how Ododuwa sent his son Oromiyan to Benin. To test whether the Edo people would care for their king, Ododuwa gave the Edo people three years to nurse the common louse. On their success, the great Ododuwa was convinced that the people really would care for their king.

Oromiyan was thereafter sent to Benin in 1170AD.He came into Benin amidst the serious opposition of Ogiamien who refused him entry into the City which was still under the firm grip of his administration.

Oromiyan was therefore forced to settle at Usama which was an outskirt of the City State . There he remained under the political support of the elders {Edion} headed by Chief Oliha. Oromiyan had both language and cultural handicaps because of his Yoruba backgrounds. Although he had a Benin father {Ikaladerhan} yet he was really born and bred in yoruba land which was then the adopted kingdom, a refugee prince who had now found a new home at Ife.

When Oromiyan could neither speak nor understand the Benin custom,Unable to bear the animosity for very long renounced his position and labeled Edo land [Benin kingdom] lle Ibinu meaning land of annoyance and vexation and declared that only a child of the soil educated in the culture and tradition of the land could rule the kingdom. He thereafter returned to Uhe{IIe Ife} On his way back home he stopped briefly at Ego where he pregnated princess Erimwinde the daughter of the Enogie of Ego who bear him a son.

In his early years couldn’t talk when his father who by now established the Alafin dynasty in Oyo had of his son predicament, sent his son’s mother Ehendiwo seven marbles. While playing this marbles with other children one of his throws hit the target in excitement screamed Owomika {I have succeeded} which was Corrupted into Eweka.

For a period of over 30 years, the administration of Benin City was virtually in the hands of Ogiamien family until 1200 AD when the "Boy-King" Eweka I as a young king ruled the kingdom with the assistance of his maternal grandfather Ogiegor.

Oba Eweka I stated the reign of the Obas.Hitherto, the kings were known as Ogiso but when Eweka I came as a king, he was referred to as Oba. Some people said that the word oba is a yoruba word which means king. Others said the word Obaa meaning it is hard or difficult or probably from an abbreviation of the original name of the first Ogiso {Obagodo {Oba godo}-Oba king; godo-high : High King}. Wherever the word is derived from one can only say that it really came into use as connoting kingship during Oba Eweka I in 1200 AD

Oba Eweka reigned for 35 yearss at his demise , his rival children ruled in succession

Understand this fact that the writer of the above is a Yoruba man, and will write to favour his own lean-age,

Is the governor of Edo State not a Muslim (or one in the past)? Is not a signficant portion of Edo State Muslim?

I'm not convinced that Christians and Muslims cannot live together in peace and harmony.

It depends on the type of Muslim. Some are devilish and backwards (e.g., Arabs, Hausa, Fulani), but others are progressive and forward-looking.

Its Includes some parts of Ondo, Lagos and Anambra States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onitsha

"History

Most theories on the word 'Onicha' point to the meanings "despiser" or "arrogant"; apparently the people of Onitsha were prone to "look down" upon the people of the towns adjacent to them.[6] 'Onicha' may be a contraction of either 'Ọnịsịlị-ncha', meaning 'too headstrong [to be disciplined]'; Ọnyịsịlị-ncha, 'too headstrong [for everyone]'; or 'Ani-Ocha', 'the fair or white land'. Some claim that 'Onicha' is a contraction of Igbo and Edo words, and perhaps from the word 'Orisha'. However, the existence of quite a number of communities bearing 'Onicha' in the eastern Igbo hinterland, whose history do not relate to Edo, did severely jeopardise this hypothesis. Onicha-Uboma, Onicha-Uburu, Onicha-Nwenkwo are just some of these lesser known Onicha scattered in Igboland.[7]

Onitsha was known as Ado N'Idu by citizens who departed from the vicinity of the Kingdom of Benin near the far western portion of Igboland (near what is now Agbor), after a violent dispute with the Oba of Benin that can be tentatively dated to the early 1500s.[8] Traveling eastward through what is now Western Igboland (and various towns also called "Onitsha", for example Onicha-Ugbo, "farmland-Onitsha"wink, the Onitsha, led by one Chima eventually crossed the Niger River (Igbo: Orimili) and settled on the east bank in their current location[9]

After their arrival on the east bank (Onicha-mmili,"Onitsha-on-water", see above), the community gradually became a unitary kingdom, evolving from a loosely organized group of "royal" and "non-royal" villages into a more centralized entity.[10] Eze Aroli, was apparently the first genuinely powerful Obi of Onitsha, the ruler of the city.[11]

In 1857 British palm oil traders established a permanent station in the city, Christian missionaries joining them headed by the liberated African bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (a Yoruba recaptive) and Reverend John Taylor (an Igbo Recaptive).[12] In 1900 Onitsha became part of a British protectorate.[13]{ The British colonial government and Christian missionaries penetrated most of Igboland to set up their administration, schools and churches through the river port at Onitsha"

If you read the article properly you'd have realised that I am determined oponent of the Northern oligarchy and indeed the entire corrupt ruling class it is part of. However it was an analytical piece and that has to be objective and dispasionate. You don't defeat your enemy by being angry with him, you have to understand him and that requires analysis not sentiment, which is why in the best officer schools you are taught self control because that is the only way you can accurately assess the moves of your enemy

Claiming that such an article supports the right of the Northern Oligarchy to strike, is the equivalent of accusing a biologist analysisng the aggression of a Cobra of supporting it.

Bayelsa: Exclusion of PDP guber candidate an error – Barage
On January 14, 2012 · In News

Abuja - (NAN) Acting National Chairman of the ruling PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, says the exclusion of its candidate in the INEC list of candidates for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Bayelsa, “is an error’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the name of PDP’s gubernatorial candidate for the election, Mr Serikae Dickson, is missing in the list of 35 candidates of different political parties, released by INEC.

Baraje who was fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja said the error would soon be corrected as INEC had no constitutional power to disqualify any candidate in an election.

According to him, PDP has no plan to challenge INEC’s decision in court because the party believed that the exclusion of its candidate was an error which would be rectified.

“We have pointed out the error to INEC that we have done our primaries and it is to the know of INEC and we’ve come out successfully with our candidate and INEC acknowledged our submission, that time.

“So, for them to have said that we are in court, therefore, they would not include our candidate, is against the law.

“INEC has no authority of such and we are working together with INEC and I am sure it’ll be corrected very, very soon.’’

Baraje said the party had engaged INEC in dialogue to rectify the error as it had no plan to go to court.

He said that the Electoral Act forbade anyone, including INEC to interfere in the electoral processes of any political party, including the conduct of party primaries.

E.O. 12958: DECL: 04/07/2014
TAGS: EPET, EINV, EFIN, PGOV, NI
SUBJECT: SCANDAL BREWING OVER NIGERIAN FUEL IMPORTS

Classified By: J. GREGOIRE FOR REASONS 1.5 (B), (D), AND (E).

1. (C) SUMMARY. A scandal is brewing in Nigeria over prices
paid by the government for imported fuel. International fuel
traders have been falsifying the dates of bills of lading to
reflect particularly high market prices, overcharging the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by $300
million or more. END SUMMARY.

2. (C N/F) On April 2, Chris Finlayson, Chairman and Managing
Director of Shell Petroleum Development Corporation of
Nigeria (SPDC), told Consul General and Econoff that a
scandal is brewing within the NNPC over payments made to
international fuel marketers. Finlayson said some marketers
have been changing the dates when fuel shipments bound for
Nigeria were loaded in order to take advantage of
particularly high market prices. He said the total
overpayment by NNPC may be as high as $330 million.
Finlayson noted that Shell is not one of the marketers in
question, but is becoming a leading fuel supplier for NNPC.

3. (C N/F) On April 6, Femi Otedola, President and CEO of
Zenon Petroleum and Gas, the largest supplier of diesel fuel
in Nigeria, essentially corroborated Finlayson's report.
Otedola said over $300 million has been overpaid by NNPC for
fuel imports, and that many leading international traders are
involved. According to Otedola, NNPC contracts to pay its
suppliers the market price on the day a ship is loaded with
fuel. He said NNPC recently discovered, however, that bills
of lading were altered to reflect loading on days of high
market prices. Discrepancies were found when comparing dates
on the bills of lading with dates of landing in Lagos.

4. (C N/F) Pointing to examples, Otedola said that while a
tanker loading fuel at a refinery in Bahrain usually takes
four weeks to arrive in Lagos, comparisons between the bills
of lading and dates of arrival of some shipments reflected
only a four-day difference, and in other cases, if taken at
face value, indicated the journey took nine months. Otedola
said 73 shipments from refineries in the Persian Gulf,
England, and Venezuela listed delivery times of only one day.
NNPC is attempting to get compensation for the over-charge.
Otedola went on that most of the fuel traders supplying
Nigeria are implicated in over-charging NNPC, and showed a
list of 17 companies that supplied fuel in the first quarter
of 2004, several of which, he said, are significant players
in international markets, such as Trafigura and Vitol.
Otedola added that three companies clearly not involved in
the scandal are British Petroleum, ChevronTexaco and Shell.

5. (C N/F) Otedola recommended that NNPC stop contracting
with international fuel traders and negotiate purchases
directly from refineries worldwide. According to him, such a
move would have two positive effects. Otedola calculates
that NNPC would save some four billion dollars a year in
expenditures on imported fuel. (Note: Prior to deregulation
in October 2003, NNPC, then the sole importer of fuel, lost
two billion dollars per year because it sold stock to
retailers below purchase price. After October 2003, NNPC
initially stopped subsidizing fuel sales, letting marketers
import fuel to be sold at market prices. However, sources
agree that NNPC is back in the business of subsidizing
gasoline sales while it maintains a facade of deregulation by
encouraging private marketers to import fuel that NNPC
purchases at market price. NNPC then sells the fuel to
marketers and retailers at a reduced price to ensure that
those companies maintain a profit margin while holding
consumer prices to informal caps set by the Department of
Petroleum Resources. End Note.)

6. (C N/F) Otedola added that by cutting out the
international traders, NNPC would also enhance the
environment in which Nigeria's refineries could be restored
and operated. Otedola said he believes international fuel
trade "mafias" are behind the failure to bring Nigeria's
refineries back on-line and to capacity. Otedola is
convinced these traders arrange for the vandalization of
crude oil feeder pipelines, which keep the refineries at Port
Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna closed or under-capacity. He said
the international traders generally receive at least one
million dollars per shipload of fuel to Nigeria and have
grown accustomed to the easy money Nigeria offers as long its
refineries remain down.

7. (C N/F) As an example, Otedola described an arrangement
the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) had with Sahara
Energy for the provision of diesel to an emergency power
generation plant in Abuja. He said that while a pipeline was
under construction to deliver fuel to the main power plant,
NEPA paid some five billion dollars to Sahara over four years
for diesel to the back-up plant. It was later discovered
that NEPA had received only about one billion dollars worth
of fuel, according to Otedola. Otedola said that he, too,
was contracted to deliver diesel fuel to the plant on
occasion; however, he petitioned the president to investigate
the matter after becoming suspicious of NEPA's ongoing
contract with Sahara and the fact that the pipeline for the
power plant was never finished. He said his intervention led
to an investigation that ultimately resulted in the
cancellation of NEPA's contract with Sahara.

8. (C N/F) COMMENT: The allegation that international
traders bilked NNPC of hundreds of millions of dollars is yet
another example of the poor management of Nigeria's energy
sector, and highlights the complex links between crude sales,
fuel importation, refinery maintenance, and energy production
here. Otedola is probably right in suggesting that
long-standing sweetheart deals between the NNPC and a variety
of fuel traders is keeping the system inefficient. That may
also explain why the GON just can't seem to get its
refineries running even after spending a billion dollars or
more on maintenance contracts over the last four years.
Otedola said he initially bid to purchase the Port Harcourt
refinery offered for privatization, but he recently told
President Obasanjo he will not invest in the refinery so long
as NNPC purchases fuel from traders instead of negotiating
directly with refineries in other countries and leasing ships
itself to deliver fuel to Nigeria. It is not clear if
Otedola's assumption that the international traders' stake in
Nigeria's current fuel market is the main driver behind the
country's refinery woes. But it is clear that the
fundamentals of infrastructure security, interim supply
stability, and transactional transparency must still be
addressed if the GON is to be taken seriously about its
efforts to deregulate and largely privatize Nigeria's
downstream petroleum sector. END COMMENT.

Mistrust between the northerners resident in Delta State and indigenes became worse on Wednesday, following an attempt by an Hausa man to set ablaze an Effurun High Court judge.

The suspect, identified as Mallam Abdulsalam Al-Kazeem, was said to have set himself ablaze at about 2.30 p.m. and attempted to wrap his burning body around the judge.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Al-Kazeem was a guard in the residence of the judge, Justice Patience Keujubola, until the attempt to set his boss ablaze along with himself.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect had bought a keg of fuel and hid it in the premises of his boss’s house and when the judge came out, he was said to have soaked himself with the fuel and lit a match.

“We have a report that an Hausa man poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze and he attempted to wrap his burning body around the judge, but she was rescued. The suspect sustained severe burns all over his body in the process,” he added.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that Al-Kazeem’s grouse was that the judge was paying him peanuts and decided to commit suicide and killed his boss along.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Charles Muka, confirmed the incident.

FOR the second day running, the nation was shut down by the general strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) with paralysing street protests that are now being hijacked by hoodlums and hooligans across the states of the federation.

Abuja
In Abuja, both pro and anti-Jonathan rallies were held with the labour protest witnessed by hundreds of protesters while the pro-subsidy removal group converged on Garki Area 10 to show their support for the government’s policy.

Protests in the suburb of Abuja were, however, hijacked by hoodlums, leading to confrontations and road blockades at Kuje, Gwagwalada, Nyanya and other parts of the territory.

Reports from across the states indicated that miscreants and trouble makers were going round many states of the federation, vandalising public properties and extorting money from members of the public.

Kaduna
In Kaduna State, the situation was so bad that many public buildings were vandalised.

Due to the intensity of the situation, the Kaduna State chapter of the NLC, under its chairman, Comrade Adamu Ango, announced the suspension of street protests, even as the strike continues.

Ango noted that the street protests are being exploited by miscreants, whom he said were out to create chaos, adding that the NLC was calling off the protests after due consultations with the civil society.

Kano
The street protests also turned violent in Kano State, on Monday, with the state chapter of the NLC meeting security agencies and civil society groups to call off protests as a way of shutting off the miscreants.

Also, labour leaders in Kano State resolved to suspend the protest as an honour to mourn those who lost their lives during Tuesday‘s clash with anti-riot police, just as they also suspended the protest based on the manner the peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums who used it to destroy property.

The NLC disclosed that instead of street protest, people should sit at home to observe the strike.

Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Isa Yunusa Danguguwa, told newsmen that “the suspension does not invalidate the strike as we will continue with it.” He called on workers both public and private, to remain at home.

He added: “The idea behind the suspension of today’s protest is to mourn those killed during the protest in Kano.”

Comrade Danguguwa further disclosed that a ‘stakeholders’ meeting would be held to discuss the next line of action on whether the protest would continue or not.”

Oyo
In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, hoodlums took the advantage of the protest and started robbing residents, dispossessing them of their valuables.

They also attacked, robbed people and looted some offices and shops.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State government has declared a 12-hour curfew in the state with immediate effect.

The curfew would take effect from 7.00p.m. to 7.00a.m.

The government made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Akin Olajide.

According to the statement, the curfew became necessary to the lives of the people of the state.

The government noted that some hoodlums and miscreants, under the sponsorship of some politicians, had been hiding under the present anti-fuel subsidy removal protest to threaten the security of the state, especially at night.

The government explained that it had to declare the curfew to protect lives and properties in the state.

According to the statement, government had instructed security agencies in the state to apprehend and prosecute anyone who contravened the curfew.

“While the government appreciates the rights of the citizens to protest, the protection of lives and properties of citizens is imperative,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, rampaging protesters on Tuesday attacked a Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) service station in Olorunsogo area of Ibadan, vandalising five new Toyota Hilux and three other vehicles at the process.

The PHCN station services Ogbere, Akanran and other communities were also affected.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that it took the intervention of men and officers from the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to restore normalcy to the area.

It was also gathered that the Ogbere Police Station was also attacked by the hoodlums, causing the Divisional Police Officer in the station to call for reinforcement from the state police command.

South-East
Reports from the five states of the South-East geopolitical zone showed that the NLC in the states did not organise street protests, even though the strike in the zone was very successful.

A community leader in Anambra State, Ken Anozie, told the Nigerian Tribune that leaders of the zone had agreed that while the strike should go ahead in the zone, street protests should be avoided.

Ogun
No fewer than two persons lost their lives in a face-off between some protesters and security operatives in Ibafo area of Ogun State during the anti-subsidy removal protest on Tuesday evening.

It will be recalled that the state police command had alerted the public to some miscreants pretending to be protesting against the removal of the fuel subsidy, who had on Monday and Tuesday morning blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, dispossessing motorists of their valuables.

At the time of filing in this report, the cause of the incident could not be ascertained but reports had it that there was sporadic shooting in the area.

An eyewitness informed the Nigerian Tribune that one Kaola, a diesel seller at Kara, Ibafo, was one of the casualties.

Those injured were said to have been taken to an unnamed hospital for treatment.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that he could not give details on the incident.

Also, it appeared that miscreants have hijacked the protest, rallies in the state.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that some youths on Monday and Tuesday respectively blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, especially the Mowe-Ibafo end of the highway by making bonfire, preventing vehicular movement.

It was the same situation in some areas in Abeokuta, as essential service providers and some people who had one reason or the other to come out of their homes were subjected to torture and unnecessary harassment at the hands of these unscrupulous elements.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune by phone, condemned the activities of the miscreants, saying that their actions had so far become intolerable.

He said: “The miscreants, along the expressway, were terrible; they were so violent at the Mowe-Ibafo axis very violent; there was no labour leader to coordinate them.

“They were snatching people’s property and I think the command is trying to see what we can do now as we cannot continue to contain their excesses. But we still want to advise that whatever they are doing, they should be objective in their agitations. They should not lose focus.

Lagos
The crisis generated by the protest against petroleum subsidy removal continued in Lagos State on Tuesday as two people were killed around Ketu.

There was also serious tension around Area G Police Command and Pen Cinema Police Station, as civil rights groups and residents of Ogba protested against the killing of a protester by the divisional police officer of Pen Cinema

The two persons, a commercial motorcyclist and another protester, were crushed to death by a commercial bus that was trying to avoid the bonfire in the middle of the road.

The death of the two persons sparked off serious unrest, as angry protesters attacked some of the motorists and threatened to set their vehicles ablaze.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Ketu incident occurred when a Volkswagen commercial bus, at high speed, got to Demurin Street axis of Ikorodu Road to find a bonfire on the road.

The driver of the bus, while trying to avoid the bonfire made by the protesters crashed into a motorcyclist and another protester, who was standing by the roadside.

The motorcyclist died on the spot, while the other victim of the incident died on the way to the hospital.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Samuel Jinadu confirmed the reports to the Nigerian Tribune, but claimed not to have been properly briefed by the divisional police officer in charge of Ketu police station.

Also, flight operations were, on Tuesday, totally grounded with over 500 international passengers stranded at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

Some of the passengers who spoke to journalists at the airport said they were told at the airport that their flights had been cancelled as the crew members of the airlines were trapped in different parts of the Lagos metropolis.

Mostly affected were the passengers of Arik Air, billed to travel to London and those of Ethiopian Airlines travelling to Addis Ababa.

The cabin crew of most of the foreign airlines, who made attempt to find their way to the airport, were chased back by angry unionists.

When the Nigerian Tribune visited the international wing of the airport on Tuesday morning, many of the passengers were helpless, not knowing when they would be eventually airlifted.

Among the stranded passengers were the aged and children, who were seen sleeping on the bare floor at both the departure and arrival halls.

It was the same experience at the domestic wing of the Lagos airport, where there were no flight operations with all aircraft kept on the tarmac by their owners.

As early as 7.00 a.m., various aviation unions took over strategic parts of the airport, preventing airport workers from having access to their offices.

Equally, all the aviation agencies had their offices under lock and key without their workers in sight.

According to some union members who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune, their presence was to frustrate any attempt by anybody to render the NLC strike against the oil subsidy removal ineffective.

Edo
An unidentified soldier shot dead one Evans Osobor, 21, on Tuesday, in the Esigie area of Benin City, Edo State.

The deceased’s father, Mr Saturday Osobor, alleged that a soldier attached to the state anti-crime outfit, Operation Thunder Storm, shot straight at his son.

Mr Osobor, who took the corpse of his son to the state CID headquarters, said his son’s death was premeditated.

According to him, “I sent Evans to fetch me something and while on the street, he was shot down by this soldier attached to Operation Thunder Storm. It was not a stray bullet; the soldier shot direct at my son.”

Meanwhile, soldiers came in between some locals and some residents of northern origin, on Tuesday, in different parts of Benin City, the state capital, averting what could have been a bloody confrontation.

The soldiers also secured Erie Street, home to Bureau de Change offices in Benin City, following looting and killings that reportedly occurred there on Monday.

It was gathered that fears over the escalation of what was becoming an ethno-religious clash prompted the deployment of soldiers to areas like Erie, off Sakponba Road, Second East Circular and Third East Circular roads in Benin City with a view to keeping the peace.

The development was fuelled by rumours doing the rounds that some persons travelling down to Edo State were burnt to death somewhere in the North in the commercial vehicles conveying them on the first day of the industrial action.

The two sides were wielding dangerous weapons and ready to unleash terror, as they stood on the opposite sides on First East Circular road with the soldiers coming in-between them.

Taiwo Adisa, AbujaFears that hoodlums had hijacked the protest as well as the need to prevent further degeneration of the situation apparently made the Edo State councils of the NLC and TUC to direct a sit-at-home strike in the state.

The organised labour, which hurriedly addressed a press conference, condemned the violence brought into the protests by persons whose agenda they described as mischievous, saying it was a negation of their ideal which was and remained the rejection of the removal of fuel subsidy.

It observed that though the labour protest in the state was peaceful, the event that followed the protest left more to be desired.

“The event that occurred after we had left were simply a negation of our ideals. We, therefore, condemn the act of assault on citizens who are better described as members of the oppressed…It is against this background that we feel pained and sad that some persons whose agenda we see as mischievous, callous and inhuman unleashed mayhem on very innocent citizens,” the labour said.

Border security
The Federal Government, on Tuesday, ordered the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs Rose Uzoma, to beef up border security to forestall foreign mercenaries taking undue advantage of the current situation to create insecurity in the country.

The directive is coming against the backdrop of protests by the organised labour and civil society groups across the country over the removal of fuel subsidy by the government.

Minister of Interior, M Abba Moro, has equally ordered the service chiefs of the paramilitary agencies to massively deploy their men nationwide in order to contain any emergency that could arise during the protest.

Addressing chief executives of the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Fire Service, Civil Defence Corps and the Prison Service, Moro said the protection of life and property was of paramount importance to the government, saying no effort should be spared in protecting all Nigerians and residents.
