Firstly im a hausa guy from Kaduna, He is right but this shouldn't be an avenue to make mockery of the north, the question is what is the way forward? If poverty can be reduced I think illiteracy won't be a problem anymore, I'm a northerner and one funny thing about our people is their I don't care attitude, giving birth to kids that you dont have the financial viability to train, for some the primary and secondary objective is to feed, quality education is an added bonus. Its not just about sending kids to school, as a parent you check what your kid is being taught and assess his progress, but given the fact that most parent send their wards to government schools where they pay little or no amount for tuition, they don't care about their education and how their kids are coping , all they know is my child is in school and that is what's wrong about the north. But thank God today there's noticeable changes in the number of students going to schools most especially the females, I believe the next generation will be better. The wise trace their steps and amend their errors when criticized, only the fools will get defensive and keep languishing in self delusion

These are specialized area. Very lovely you have chosen this path to making additional income. I am glad my articles and posts are opening the eyes of people. Bros, you are buulding your life with this. You go abroad and have good vacation. You will command respect at home too. Do you know that there is too much confidence that oil and gas boys dont have which what you want to do will give you?

All the areas you have chosen are good, but it depends on you. It seems that snail and dogs breedings are the two areas which do not need too close monitoring. UUnfortunately, I do not know the details of these two areas.

1. Broiler: You can easily sell your birds if you keep your cost of production down. It is straight forward. Dedicate 3 months to go on a pilot with 50 birds. I will not want to give you a budget. Find out the present cost of DOC which fluctuates seriously. Of course, find a good seller. I dont believe in buying from big brands. My gut tells me to find a trusted guy who works in any good hatchery. If I was to do it, i would want to attain an average weight of 3kg in 49 days, of course can be up to 3.9kg. And my plan is to keep my cost of production to N1,000 per bird. I may start with N1,500 per bird...of course, that is just to get the basis of doing it. My subsequent pilots, I start trying out many things until I optimize to N1,000 cost of production per bird or below. This is my life. This is how I operate. Therefore, find threads on broiler and start asking questions. You can do it yourself. But if you are a big boy, you can use 1,000 as a pilot. Every 7 weeks you get a new batch. You can even stop at 42 days which makes it shorter. 2kg is the standard accepted weight. Lets say you optimize and you make N650 - N1,500 per bird, you can structure your farm into batches. And you have continuous production where you supply 2 to 3 times per week the same buyer. The mistake most farmers make is that they produce huge numbers of birds at the same time. This is a very wrong approach. To do this, you need to consult someone who understands it very well. And a business structure like this is what I have developed for myself. Visit Emmachile threads. There is one other NL master that I know, he may not like it if I mention him, but trust me, this guy is good in both organic and inorganic. Then, look out for organicfoods too. He knows about broiler. Also, talk to Turk or Turks. He is always on Emmaachile's broiler and noiler threads.

2. Turkey:
This is a business for the biggest boys. I finished developing N480 million annual sales yesterday. I am still fine tunning it. What I love about this bird is that "Owambe" Lagos and Abuja parties orgsnizers can easily patronize one and use these birds instead of beef. Of course, most people will buy into it. And when you get the right breed which are called "Foreign Breeds" in Nigeria, you are in big money if you can learn how to take care of them. I know two breeds that are highly sorted after. And the chance of getting crossed breed is very high. If you have some serious cash, and you want to look into this, I can put you in the right direction. I do not buy into using local breeds. This is a business I am seriously considering to start anytime. But you must be financially ok. A day old poult is presently N1,400 to N1,800. Just imagine buying 1,000 poults. 99% of NL farmers will take off like Usain Bolt. Lol. But I am trying to build a business which supplies 1,000 6-months old turkey birds weekly. Of course, I can easily find Owambe parties and supply per week. A bird goes for N16,000 - N25,000. I believe N15,000 to N17,000 is a wonderful price most caterers will rush. Just try to open a processing unit, and you are in a big boy business. However, learn the act very well. This is a business I am working on presently.

3. Layers: If you can learn broiler, layers becomes very easy. The choice you have to make is to buy day old chicks, or to buy point of lays. Do not let any consultant make any decision for you. Make deep research. But you get to make daily sales here. Remember that you can strucrure boilers to having 3 sales per week also. It depends on how you structure your business. And it is going to affect the way you manage your birds. Remember that most people are not deep thinkers who can structure it like this. So, most farmers usually make sales one time quarterly or bi-annually.

4. Snail:
Honestly, I cannot tell you the details. You should check Moboj on nairaland. She understands it. I have checked her threads.

5. Dog: Seriously, I do not know much, but I am planning on breeding farm dogs soonest. I will be here to read comments from masters.


My guy, the king you never mentioned is Vegetables. Lol. And this is my specialty. I love fruits too. If you have 1 acre to 1 ha, and you want easy money with little or no work, start with papaya. Then, if you have time, and you want to make some serious money, you start thinking about cold loving plants. Practise, perfect them, and see yourself making serious income: cauliflower, brocolli, green peas, special cold loving cucumbers, sweet pepper, beetroots, etc. You can start with lettuce. 11 - 12 pieces is presently N500. And you can have 5,000 - 7,000 plants on 1 plot. You may even grow vertically. Calculate sales and see. You can have 25 - 35 days cycles. Cut off the period needed for nursery. So, you may divide one plot into 3 or 4 parts and choose 3 to 4 different veggies. Oga, it is called easy income if you can stay with it.


Above all, take your time to research these areas extensively before you commit yourself into one or two.

Note: Learn odorless poultry farming so you do not offend your neighbors. It is advisable you do veggie so you can easily move your manure and use them if you choose poultry. Otherwise, you will make many enemies around you since you are likely to have neighbors.

Are you sure I refused to advise you? My brother, you wanted me to tell you what you should do, and I told you what I always do every season, but you did not like it. Hmmmm. I told you to conduct a market research, and let the projected figures guide you. But you expected me to give you A to Z of what you need to do. Not only you live in disapora. Many people talk to me daily on different issues, and I give free advice and suggestion.

I can give you A to Z, but it is not in your own interest that i do it. It will not favor you in the future. Learn marketing.

Veggie, poultry, pigs, mining, online trading, import and export, oil and gas, etc are my areas. But I speak with authority when it comes to veggie and fruits farming, gold mining, and future trading. Every other areas, i refer newbies to trusted people or to threads on NL. I am just getting into Turkey and broiler; hence, what you get from me at this time is a detailed research I personally conducted which I am using very soon.

Marketing is the real engine of high income. It is the drive force. I gave hints even on my approach to market turkey birds in one of my recent posts. I talk with sales men and marketers everytime. I contract out marketing, and I pay for the service, except the person tells me he or she is working for free in exchange for knowledge and experience.

If you are genuine, I am willing to assist you. Even up till now. It is either you do that marketing yourself, or pay for it. I will not collect any money, but I will give you a guy on NL. You can return here to give report how he treated you. I rhink you are in Ibadan. This guy is a masters holder in Engineering and he will get figures for you. Of course, I can make him charge you less. If this is what you want. So, go for it. I sense that you are really interested in employing a consultant. But I am not a consultant. However I can give you someone who can do the job. Then after, you decide the way forward. But I prefer you do it yourself. Build a team, and instruct the members via online chat.

Brother, I can tell you to do greenhouse, but I dont buy materials for people I am.not close to. I dont do it. If it is drip, I have just one seller who I use if i choose not to import myself. He has the best price with good quality. And I do not have 1 kobo as commission. He is a good friend. Of course, it is this agric business that brought us together. He is the best person I have ever dealt with. He always ask for my suggestions when importing new things. And he has asked me many times to assist him test some equip. Oga, if you know the number of fruit seedlings I have moved to Nigeria, hahahahha! And this coming week I am moving in about 3,000 seedlings of different fruits. And I hardly make profit on these things.

Veggie itself is too wide. Oga, I cannot fill the huge gap of need in it. It is why I am not afraid to give out tips for any area in Veggie. I do not cultivate slicing cucumner again because everyone is doing it on NL and even most SW farmers are into it. Presently 40kg bag is N3,000. That is around 75 naira. When I sold another specie of cucumber at N530 per kg last week. And tomato at N750 per kg. A dozen of lettuce (which hasn't formed head) at N500 per dozen. And many more. Even Egg plant is money. Just perfect producing green peas and see how you will start swimming in high profit. Is it sweet corn? Sweet pepper is mad profit. Or is it chilli if you can sell per kg? The fatest crop and very easy one is radish. And you just produce minimally so you do not get stranded with sales. I can go on and on.

Is it Vanilla you want to do and go on very high risk? If you get it right....ha....you are in a serious money spinning business. Or is it tumeric or garlic hydroponics farm that I will never bother to check for six months but to only harvest later?

But the simple instruction is go and carry out a market research and we pick it up from there, and you left. Lol.

Am I to be blamed? But instead, you are going about asking everyone for ideas and plans. And anyone who asks for money, you are there. In this present day of Nigeria?

I do not keep marlice. Once I blast the person, my mind is clear. Life goes on. If the fellow returns, i may not push the person away. But at times I may just choose to walk away. Thats me. Very simple. And some people managed to be close to me, and we argue so much often. Lol. Some may leave for many months, but trust me....no one runs away from knowledge. They always return. Oga, i left luxury and comfort in order to understand the process in Nigeria. And trust me, there is money here, but the hurdles are too much. You better start looking only into short term cycled production (read the responses I posted on NL yesterday) at this initial stage. Oga, come to Nigeria and do your sfuff. Find a way to create 3 months vacation for yourself annually. If you cannot do this, pocket your money. And do not waste it investing in anyone. Let go off the idea of having a supervisor on your farm. You are wasting your time. You will end up wasting your resources. Get into broiler and vegetable production
Learn it, do it by yourself. Get shades and greenhouses for smooth production. Pack inside your greenhouses net and cover. Leave the galvanized frame outside after each cycle. Return the following year and put over the frame your net and cover again. Do not ever use improvised structure. I have advised you, but it seems you are bent on using 419 boys or hungry consultants who will play african magic on you.

Or perhaps you are still paying your game. Still in the same threads with healthserve. Guy, you better be extra careful.

I know that $1 is about N350 when sending money home. And with poor people around here who cannot even afford just $50 to buy irrigation kit ($50 to you, it is a peanut if it is for business that can generate income), so you are tempted to just send it and take the risk. From $50, you will graduate to $50,000. Do not worry. It is just a matter of adding three zeros to $50.

But, i smell rat all over everything about you too. If you are clean, stop going about NL showing signals that you are a 419. What is wrong with you? Why try to synchronize stupid offers? To lure people into it? Just put comments where you are not to put at all. For what? Or so that people can know you reside abroad. And then abroad people can also start tapping in. In every business, you have to start small. So pick the commodities that are not capital intensive. A few kgs of Bitterkola, vegetables, onions, etc.

Raw Cashew Nut (RCN) is capital intensive. Even the big boys can't do 100tons. 100tons is about 180,000usd or more if the order is CNF and a little more with insurance (CIF).

Forget about letter of credit (confirmed or not), you still can't achieve anything with it without a collateral. Even with a transferrable LC, you still need money to transfer an LC.

From the tone of your chat, you are still a greenhorn.

You need experience to approach BOI as well.

Have you done any export before, obviously no. But you want to start with RCN, lol.

The big boys don't even have a website, they prosper on referrals.

Boy, raise 100k and start with few kgs. Visit the source of the commodity you want to export. Most of you just sit opposite the PC thinking everything will come to you. Visit NAHCO to get quotes because those few kgs will go via air.

It is not even RCN season yet.
