The fact is that when you are caught in that illusion, you can hardly imagine the difference talkless of knowing the difference.

The only reason why most nigerians condone the system is that they think it's their birth right to live in misery,if they know better, they will commit suicide rather than live like that.

Nigerians in nigeria on average are living in hell. That is not the way to live,it is a sub-human existence.

Life is not by force,it is either u live it right or u give it up.

But my advice to nigerians is that instead of just wastefully hanging urself with rope, try and do something daring in trying to tackle the elite thieves,if you die in the process good,if u succeed,a change will come and u live for real.

For some reasons,i don't blame the kidnappers as long they stick to the corrupt elements in the society.

So a Nigerian that has lived in Nigeria for 20, 30 or more years and happens to move abroad, live there for 5 years and argue about the situation in Nigeria knows nothing about Nigeria?

Personally, i think that these kind of people ARE IN THE BEST POSITION TO argue about situations in our country because they have been able to experience what life and living really is. Regardless of what job and position they occupy, for those living legally (even as students) they enjoy certain amenities that many Nigerians in their life time have not yet enjoyed.

Majority of Nigerians living outside Nigeria that tend to discuss issues concerning Nigeria in my opinion are not at home with the reality on ground and most of the comments coming from these group of people are at best false and half truths.

Sometimes, it seems that all that is required by a Nigerian living outside Nigeria to feel good about himself or herself is to badmouth Nigeria or water down any positive development in the country.

However, not all but majority (based on comments on this forum).

Things may be hard in Nigeria but let us not pretend that even half of Nigerians living outside Nigeria are having it good in the countries they reside.

It is a fact that many Nigerians are equally facing very difficult times and are forced to tolerate insults and treatments just to remain where they are.

So, say it as it is. Things can definitely get better and some of us are doing our best to change what we can.

Only those born and raised abroad.
And yes, they can irritate, but they aren't any less informed; their cultural eyes are just different.

A Nigerian who has lived in more than one country and experienced different views of the same thing (eg technological approaches) can be better placed to deal with issues than a person who lives exclusively in Nigeria.

We have people who constantly refer to Nigeria as "hell", "jungle" etc because they disagree with the way some things are being done. Is this right? And to know that some of them may even be having it very rough in their host countries make such comments laughable.

On facts, of course the advantage of having more than a single view counts.

On falsehood, even if the person has lived in 30 different countries his/her views amount to nothing.

Beaf,

Is it that they irritate or the truth irritates you guys living back home in Nigeria?

It is amazing how less than 300,000 corrupt politicians and ex-military officers can hold the country hostage, when we have a population of over 150 million.

Just shows the level of greed pervading our country. People are happy to keep silent as long as they are picking the crumbs from the table.

Change will come with a big bang!!! Watch out!!!!

To be blunt, anyone who keeps screaming CHANGE and hides in foreign lands should be roundly ignored. If you feel so much as to effect change in Nigeria then come down.

You cannot run away from the problem and hope for others to do your bit, clean up your mess or die for you to rush back home to enjoy what is left.

Put your money where you mouth is or stop being a hypocrite.

And you have not been able to change the fact that small white boys can call you a monkey and get away with such.

Abegi make I hear word.

Afam.

I believe you are an intelligent and thoughtful person . I'm making this conclusion on the basis of your numerous contributions on Nairaland, but i'm a bit disappointed that you have joined  this half witted debate or should i say attack on the so called Nigerian Diasporians ( or more appropriately Nigerians living abroad ) by certain posters on Nairaland.

It is very unhelpful for a few Nigerians ( who live within the country ) to cast aspersions on the loyalty of those citizens who for so many reasons happen to be based abroad. I personally think it is an unwelcome development for anyone to encourage negative sentiments against their compatriots.

Moreover, it is equally wrong for any Nigerian based abroad to rubbish the opinions of those living in the country because the fact is they have their feet on the ground.

I happen to spend an equal amount of time inside and outside of the country so my interests lie on either side of the fence.

Thank you Afam- a place they dont know about, they call it jungle, hell, failed system, they refer to Nigeria as "that country", they think they have all the knowledge, they are far worse where they are, but they think they are living in paradise- but to be honest, if you look at these ones who describe Nigeria as hell, they are the ones who lived in the villages before they travelled, the ones who couldnt even step inside a shopping mall, now find themselves shopping in Tesco, in Sainsbury, in big shopping malls and suddenly, they remember they couldnt do so at home, and they begin to think in their minds, oh, these kind of things are not in Nigeria, rather than say, oh, i have no opportunity to be in a place like this in Nigeria. They call it a failed system, they call Nigeria all manner of names possible, they call the President all possible ill mannered names on earth, is this just right? Because you stole someone's credentials and use it to travel abroad, wait till nemesis catches up with you, either here or heaven or hell, you will know better to shut up rather than whine un necessarily.

If you want to effect change, come home and do so, we have seen the likes who came home and instead of making their marks, they left Nigeria worse than they met it - look at Ibori, Tinubu, Ayo Fayose and many more- these are diasporians who use to shout on top of their voices, see what became of them when they touched the system - it is a shame.

They irritate everybody (at home and abroad), because the Nigerian born and raised abroad has only a single viewpoint that does not take Nigerian perculiarities into consideration.
Whether we like it or not though, we have forced a massive proportion of our population to seek greener pastures abroad. These folk, regardless of their cultural leanings, are no less Nigerian than those born and raised in the country (it is why they come here); we have to learn to deal with that and see them as a very important component of our human resources (especially in a a World built off increasingly sophisticated global connections).

If some Nigerians abroad are in charge of very advanced systems, yet cannot contribute to development back home, why should we think they aren't entitled to consider the power situation, transportation, ritual killings etc as hell, the jungle etc? even to the Nigerian back home, are these things the signs of paradise?

Lets be real.

That is the sad truth of the situation. Millions have somehow convinced themselves that as long as they are running a business or more on generators,  and maybe employ one or two other people, they are contributing their part to solving the Nigerian problem. Personal WEALTH is now interpreted by many as Development, when majority of the cases, the wealth does not even translate to better life for many in their direct communities. Problem is I wonder if they realize that as CIVILIANS that is not even what is required of them in a democratic system.

The reason why I contributed on this thread was to state the fact that not all Nigerians living outside Nigeria are guilty of what the original posted is accusing them of.

However, my last contribution was in direct response to the post I quoted which is a typical irrelevant stand that some people base their judgments on just to insult Nigerians that are living in Nigeria.

I cannot label every single Nigerian living outside Nigeria a bad person but I should be allowed to state an obvious fact - many of those that bad mouth Nigeria are not faring better either and they don't qualify to discuss Nigeria when they refer to Nigeria as a jungle or hell.

Even if we do not want to use such words as you have used, what will you call a country in which there is no rule of law, things do not work as they are supposed to, amenities are non existent, robbers in agbada are those in power, there are no proper health facilities, the security situation is precarious etc etc?

Many of us love Nigeria and want to come back home (i sincerely want to) but unfortunately, cant do so for now.

As usual this bloody coward has come to refer to someone he/she (funny no one is even sure of his/her gender) is afraid to address openly.

I don't work for government and I don't benefit from the government in anyway. I develop software, database driven applications, design inverter backup systems and provide consulting services in areas like virtualization and energy efficiency to those who need them.

I owe this clown no apology for what I do.

Personally, he/she is one hell of a bloody liar who keeps claiming to be working on one IT project or the other and in the process collecting email addresses from people even when he/she asks very basic questions for someone that claims to do this and that.

It is obvious that since people stopped buying laptops from him/her the level of frustration has increased hence his/her constantly bad mouthing of anything Nigeria and Nigerians. In my opinion he/she smells heavily of 419 as his/her ways are too crooked.

If all Nigerians living outside Nigeria are like this clown I would have written more to keep clowns like these where they belong.

Bitter, Bitter, Bitter, Bitter about what? this is part of what we are talking about, bitter because you eat burger and i cant, bitter that you shop in Tescos and i cant, bittert hat you ride in the underground and i dont, bitter that you work in the cold and i dont, bitter about what? Please tell me, before you change the word bitter to the word jealous or envious as someone has just said.

I think it is the other way round - there is every tendency for Nigerians in the diaspora to be jealous, bitter and envious about the folks back home, the home they called failed, the home they called hell, they are bitter because most of their mates they left are now in a better position than them, why should anyone in Nigeria be envious and bitter or jealous about people abroad? We havent been there, lived there, got bored and left or what is it? Envious that you work in the cold, that you have to make rounds between train stations, or what are we envious about?
