Maybe it's a similar scenario here, because I can't think of anything I said that could provoke such an ugly response from that girl.

Not ready to explain the dynamics you clearly do not know. If you can say Mikel who starred in most of the important games in the history of Chelsea's successful reign was not making the team, what do you want me to say again.
.
Simple question. Was Mikel a first team regular after Ancelotti left?

Yes or No?

Let's start there.

There are people like you who do not appreciate his contributions and those like me who do
This is different from saying Mikel was World Class. Ramires also made a very important contribution vs Barcelona. Is he World Class too?

As I said before, I am not ready to start explaining the dynamics of how Mikel remained relevant to star in important games of Chelsea despite the numerous challenges he faced at Chelsea. I am one person who followed Mikel closely.

I can give you an instance. Benitez never liked Mikel. Yet Mikel raked some important games for him. Mikel lost his place in the final of the UEFA Cup after he criticized Benitez for not calling Luiz to order for leaving his role.

Things like these, you do not know. So keep calling Mikel a non entity, while those who appreciate his tremendous impact in the game will keep respecting him
.
I've been a Chelsea fan since 2002 and my posts have been from the perspective of an ardent Chelsea fan.

Mikel has never been World Class for Chelsea, at his best he was a decent player. That was it. As a midfielder he was slow and ponderous without the ball and uninventive and lacking incision on the ball which is why he was a fringe player at the Bridge for the better part of a decade.

I mean come on. How can you be world class if you're not even making the team?

Mikel has only played 36% of all the league games he had been available for since August 2010. That's a fringe player and a non-entity as far as Chelsea is concerned

Please can we leave this Mikel debate? Nothing irks me more than seeing a bunch of faveless people on a forum discrediting another person's pain and sweat simply because they can.

Mikel is not world class to you, no wahala, but he's world class by Nigerian standards and in a Nigerian jersey, that is what matters to us as Nigerians and fans of the Super Eagles. Now, can some of us stop giving Mikel haters more reason to bash the guy? He gets enough stick from these people on a normal basis

Imagine one fellow even has the guts to call Mikel a nonentity, who the f-uck are you and what is your contribution to the Nigerian society that gives you the right to call him that @ nihilist? What sports article have you written? How many football-related accolades do you have? What makes you an authority on football that you will sit in one corner and boldly call Mikel a nonentity?
You better shut the fück up and shove a tampon down that hole in your face.

Everything we've been discussing here has been within the context of footballing achievements, with an implied comparison of a football non-entity like Mikel to truly world class players.

You're surely too stüpid to realise that if my lack of football accolades strips me of my right to call Mikel a football non-entity, then the same principle prevents you from calling Mikel Worldclass, Dumbass.

In fact if only football luminaries are allowed opinions on footballers, then why are we here at all?

According to Jose Mourinho, Mikel is 'a genius in
his position', to the extent it is 'a miracle if he
loses the ball'. The Portuguese, who signed the
Nigerian seven-and-a-half years ago and is now
managing him again, is not alone when it comes to those who have sung Mikel's praises since he moved to west London.

Luiz Felipe Scolari said 'he belongs in the
position'.

Carlo Ancelotti likened Mikel's style to his
own, a compliment not to be taken lightly
considering the Italian's own glittering playing
career.

Ray Wilkins, a lieutenant of both
Ancelotti's and Guus Hiddink's before that, and an exceptional former midfielder himself, hailed Mikel as a player who 'reads the game exceptionally well, is as strong as an ox and has a lovely range of passing'. Andre Villas-Boas admired his 'amazing mental toughness' when he played on despite the abduction of his father in Nigeria, and, following our epic run to the Champions League final in 2012, Roberto Di Matteo stressed the significance of the 'vital' role he played throughout the latter stages of that glorious European campaign, highlighting disciplined defensive performances against Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Happy weekend smiley

P.S: Carlo was a world-class Midfielder in his playing days in the exact same mould of Mikel.... Read about his playing style here...

Carlo = Worldclass = Same style with Mikel = Achievements and world class performances on the biggest stages of the game = Mikel..

Carlo = Worldclass = Mikel .EOD. smiley
Again cognitive dissonance.

Firstly, Carlo Ancelotti likening Mikel to himself does not mean Mikel was World Class. Managers hype their players all the time. Ancelloti once said Ramires was the future of Chelsea. He used to hype Malouda as one of Chelsea's best players.

Secondly using some vague praise Ancelotti said almost a full decade ago to try claim Mikel was world class makes no sense when it's obvious that Mikel has been largely irrelevant at Chelsea for the last 6 years.

Of course your opinion is your opinion. You might also believe that Sikira Sindodo is hotter than Beyoncé. That's cool too.

However I don't deal in uninformed opinions. I deal in facts.

Chelsea played 200 league games between the start of 2010/2011 season and January 2017. Mikel started only 85 of those games. That's 42.5%

Mikel couldn't even start half the games his team was playing.

When we actually analyse his playing time over that particular period, We find that Mikel only managed to rack up 6501 league minutes from a possible 18000.

That means he only actually played 36% of Chelsea's games over the the last 7 years despite having the chance to impress a whopping 6 managers in that time frame.

During this time we saw a 35 year old Lampard, and 2 centre backs in David Luiz and Kurt Zouma play in midfield while a Fit Mikel was picking splinters out of his ass on the bench

That's not a world class player...that's a non-entity. grin

Carlo Ancelotti said Mikel was a good Young player with good technique. He never said Mikel was world class.

That's a description that would fit almost all young players in the EPL today.

So if you're arguing that Mikel was good based on Ancelotti's statement, you would be correct.

If you're trying to build an argument that Mikel is/was world class based on that innocuous statement, then there is a degree of cognitive dissonance involved.

Sorry folks.... You can't beat truth okay.

Carlo labels Mikel in every way as "World Class" so make una go burn am. grin

Mourinho called him a genius in his postion and that it is a miracle if Mikel loses the ball.

World cup winning coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari said, "Mikel 'belongs' in the position"

So I wonder who in the heavens are on the chelsea forum and here on NL who say otherwise.... Wetin una be for football circles to understand what these "men that matter in the game" are saying? grin

Even Real Madrid at a time was strongly linked To Mikel...... The foreign media NOT nigerian media covered that news coz it was authentic.

Mikel is world class..... Y'all can go sit down now or keep having sleepless nights bcoz of it. I care not..... Hahahahahahahahaha.....
Carlo Ancelotti won the title in 2010. I was very particular in pointing out that Mikel has literally not Ben relevant in the post-Ancelotti era.

And even then he wasn't world class, though he was decent enough. Any Chelsea fan would tell you that Lampard and Ballack were the real MVPs that year.

Mikel first got kicked out the Chelsea team aged 24 when he should have been approaching his peak. He spent the 5 prime years between the age of 24 and 29 mostly on the bench, and was shipped out to China before he turned 30...that's a damning indictment on any opunion suggesting that Mikel could be world class.

Finally, if you take anything Jose says as the truth, then more fool you. Jose talks anyhow. Instead of showing us what Jose said, you should tell us what Jose actually did - hint (He doesn't trust Mikel enough to be a consistent starter in midfield)

I do not think that it is a coincidence that Chelsea's form improved last year when Mikel became a regular again. That does not sound like an inconsequential player. Ask those who played with him all those years.

It is easy to notice Mikel when Chelsea have to defend as in the case of the champions League games. He is less noticeable when Chelsea are dominating. That is partly why he is underrated.
Chelsea's form improved where?

Let me remind you that the only time Mikel had a clear run in the Chelsea Midfield was the initial post AVB era when RDM initially came in. We finished 6th in the league that season.

The next season Mikel cost RDM his job with his incredibly dodgy performances. Nairaland was boiling then. I think Mikel even had to quit twitter because fans were letting him know how crap he was.

Benitez promptly came in that same season and started playing a pivot of Lampard and David Luiz. Benitez successor would later repeat the trend of playing centrebacks in midfield ahead of Mikel when he started playing a Matic-Zouma pivot in the later stages of 2014/2015 season.

If you're referring to the collapse of Chelsea under Jose last season, it is important to note that we were 16th. Realistically any move up the table would be a relative improvement, but we must not forget that Chelsea finished 10th under hiddink. 10th. With Mikel occasionally being forced to vacate midfield to play at centreback. In the grand scheme of things that 'improvement' was largely inconsequential.

Mikel has never been World Class in his life.

That dude hasn't even been relevant at Chelsea since 2011 when AVB kicked his ass to the bench. RDM came and also maintained his status on the bench. Mourinho came and continued the status quo and converted him to a bus driver. You only saw Mikel on the pitch when Jose was ready to park the bus and deflate the tires.

Hiddink came and started playing Mikel at centreback and Finally Conte came to chase him away for good without a single appearance for the club grin

The only reasonable thing Mikel did at Chelsea between 2011 and 2017 was the performance vs Barca and that final at the Allianz.

Not every footballer can start his career like lukakus, but that doesn't mean they can't reach/match his level of play when they come to their own...then if you want to understand the potential I mean..check their all round game/characteristics not just goalscoring, that's where he edges lukaku..
What's the all round game I need to check?

Goals are the most important metric for a striker.

It's not enough to point me to Pep. Pep has gotten it wrong this season with Joe Hart, and now even Bravo is on the bench. He's gotten it wrong with John Stones. He's gotten it wrong with Toure. Gabby Jesus did not just come in to the team, he's come in with 3 goals and 2 assists...and still Pep is danger of not even finishing in the top 4 this season.

What is it that Belloti has over Lukaku? Why should we prioritise other metrics other than goals in a striker?
