Griffon: I don't think this has anything to do with the rich failing to pay. Ronaldo is rich and we've not heard of him being charged with tax evasion. So let's place aside the Robin Hood ideal in this.
What I think is the real issue is, why are these scandals Barcelona related? You don't get to hear that a Real Madrid player is being charged with tax evasion, not even the boys from Athletico, so why Barcelona?
As a top franchise, aren't they supposed to create corporations that would protect the interest of their players? Or are they heavily involved in this evasions?
If an individual income-tax rate is high in Spain that their players can't afford to comply, what stops Barca from using corporations to service these debts?
Does it mean that Barcelona have zero knowledge of how the system works or that they can't afford to hire smart tax accountants and attorneys to do a good job for them and their players?
Jokes aside, it's pretty clear that Barcelona seem to be offering these tax avoidance schemes to their top players as incentives to sign new contracts.
Basically the way it works is this. Each player has a Pay As You Earn (PAYE) salaried contract with his club whereby the club pays their player a fixed annual salary which is subject to income tax. In the UK, anybody earning over 150k a year is liable to remit 45% of his earnings back to the government in Income Tax. So basically half your Salary belongs to Iya Charlie.
Many Top Players are themselves valuable brands and their images are particular useful marketing tools for their clubs and other businesses. Unlike football which is a service that the Club plays their player to render, the rights to use an image are a commodity that can be sold. So what a lot of these players do is setup a limited company and transfer their image rights to the company. That way, any club that want's to use their image has to buy the image rights from the Player's company which is legally a separate entity to the player himself.
Companies are taxed very differently to Individuals. In the UK, Companies pay Corporation Tax at 20%, which is only tax on any declared profit.
Already you can see the attractiveness of getting payments to your company rather than getting paid a salary. So i think Barcelona are offering their players higher amounts of money to sign new contracts by paying their players lower salaries, but buying their image rights for significantly huge amounts....and now the Spanish Government are pissed.
AdisaOwala: The question you should be asking is : Issues bordering on tax evasion - why are they synonymous with Barcelona nowadays?
Barcelona are known to be fantastically corrupt.
From building their own steroid boosted midget superstar with '99' attributes in almost every aspect, to organising ôrgies for Neymar's dad, to guaranteeing first team shirt for the descendants of old players, to ensuring that UEFA always give them favourable decisions.
Barka were the first club to elevate the diving to an art form. I'm not surprised that they encourage their players to cheat off the pitch as well..
airmark: It seems alago has yoruba blood in his veins. Boathand could prostrate for griezzman, we understand, but who is rostov's azmoun for God sake ?
Pure performance art there as Boateng does his best planking impression there.
raumdeuter: Jagunleka ni. Let me know once he plays a CL game
Bayern automatically qualify for UCL given their monopoly of that 1 horse league. What is the point of playing UCL when you dadubule for any Tom dick and Harry that catches you in the corner?
raumdeuter: That best CM na hype. I would pick Scholes over him. Viera was just a guy always forming activity on the field
The moment those Arsenal connection Viera Henry Pires tried to lead a revolt against the old guards after 2004 they struggled to qualify until they went to bring Zidane and co back
So you want to compare what Zidane brings to what Viera brings? I thought we were talking about Viera or Makelele.
raumdeuter: I dont rate Viera that high. He is a jack of all trade. Like the Pogba of these days. As a B2B I will even pick Essien over him,
The memories I have of Viera are not very good ranging from being molested by Aimar, to being molested by Fabregas to being a benchwarmer for France in their glory days
Blasphemy.
Viera was the best CM in England during his era. Roy Keane comes second in my opinion but that's debatable. Between 99 and 2002 I don't think anybody came close to Viera. How was Viera a benchwarmer in Euro 2000?
raumdeuter: I will take Lampard over Essien or Viera
Maybe Carvalho over the aging Desailly he played with
I would take Lampard over makelele, but Viera must be in my squad. Essien too. There is nothing Makelele did that those two could not do plus extras sef.
Gallas himself can even play left back. I'm surprised that he didn't pick himself gaan. Most of the ex-pros that appear of fantasy football club tend to pick themselves as part of the team.
agrovick: I guess that's why Bale is in the team considering he started out as a left back, tracking back will definitely be part of his task.
Seeing Essien reminds me of how versatile he was with Chelsea. I just wish they could all grow younger and come back (Essien, Ballack, Lampard, Deco even J.Cole, I still remember the 360 dribble that sent Evra and Vidic running)
Playing Bale at Left Back\Left Wing Back is just a criminal waste of resources. Bale barely even played there for Spurs sef.
afrodoc2: Zidane at left midfield drifting into the midfield, Essien a right footer playing at left back also cutting inside? There would be no real width on the left, it wouldn't work that way.
Henry will provide the width there.
Henry always used to take up his position wide left. Bale wide right. On the ball the formation morphs into a 433. Off the ball back to a 442 cos Henry wont track back.
Essien can play anywhere on the pitch and doesn't have a weak foot. See this goal vs Barca for confirmation
