diggz:I think you want to argue for the sake of argument. Iva for example was only in team for what he could bring to attack, and not because of what he could do defensively because he was\is crap. Generally speaking, defensive ability is less important for a fullback. I mean I just gave you a quote from bellerin who pointed out that when he started playing at RB he couldn't defend. So I'm not exactly sure what point you keep trying to make. Nihilist, luiz was miles ahead of azi attack wise but poor defensively compared to azi.... Who featured more for mou? Yes! Azi.......because Azpi is better overall than Luiz. Fact. Ivanovic was leaking goals on the other wing so it's not like Luiz couldn't push Azpilicuate to the right if he had the ability to. He didn't so he didnt. So you can't justify buying baba rahman @ 22 so we could loan him out to develop him .when we should or could have given that space to a player from the youth! @ a zero cost to the team and club!We bought Courtois for just a few million less than Baba and loaned him out. Courtois aged 22 was on loan. Lukaku aged 22 was on loan and he cost more than baba. Victor Moses cost roughly around the same as Baba and was sent on loan at 22. Mo Salah cost roughly around the same price as Baba and was loaned out at 22. I'm sure there's a point in your statement somewhere, but I actually can't seem to find it. Secondly, if your guy is poor defensively and useless going forward @ 22years, what makes you feel he will suddenly develop the basic defensive or attacking boots to fit in CFC or command a reasonable fee... When na blackman he be from Ghana and not British?sorry what? ![]() Either way you decide to see this, baba na complete waste of money and space..That actually remains to be seen. |
Ibime:You did not show anything. You only gave your interpretation of his statement based on the use of the phrase 'I think'. You must have missed the interview Ake gave when he said "I think I am a midfielder". I'm guessing he doesn't really know where he plays either. That press conference was reported live on the BBC website and this is how they interpreted it: New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is behind the idea of a midfield role for the Netherlands Under-21 international. So no nigga, you did not show nada. All you did was try to twist the very clear words of of the player himself just so that you can attack Emenalo again. I don't now why a footballer who believes that his manager wants him to go on loan would be less clued up about his own affairs and career, than Ibime on Nairaland. ![]() Please tell us who is Chelsea's current right back, Chelsea's current left back and their back-ups, and stop telling us stories. This one isn't even up for debate. Azpiliueta is our best left back. He has seen off competition from Ashley Cole, Felipe Luiz, Bertrand and now Baba. In pre-season, He has been playing at LB with Aina at RB, and this is despite the fact that Aina can play left back o. As usual you would refuse to answer any question that threatens the Anti Emenalo narrative - Is Filipe Luiz as rubbish as Baba? Why did he not move Azpi to the right. You're the one who keeps making things up bro. We do facts only. Facts. ![]() |
Ibime:Your story is interesting of course, especially because it requires you disbelieve the words that came out of Nathan Ake's own mouth. We are talking about football here, not a Jame's Hadley Chase novel. Your conspiracy theories put even The DaVinci Code to shame. WT actual F? ![]() Even IF we kept Ake to play at LB, he would have only been a backup player. Azpi is our best Left Back. Sadly he doesn't appear to be as good on the right meaning that the only open space right now is for right backs. Baba has to play to get minutes. Ake has to play to get minutes. With Azpi around they WON'T get those minutes. That's just the fact. Even if you argue that Baba was rubbish, can you reasonably say without prejudice that Felipe Luis is rubbish as well? If Felipe Luiz cannot displace Azpi, or push him to the right, doesn't that tell you how good Azpilicueta actually is? The only space available at LB is for a benchwarmer, a left back equivalent of Mikel, someone who is willing to just stagnate on the bench for most of the season and be content with a couple of run outs a year. That's just the simple fact. And the club is unwilling to waste neither Baba nor Ake in that position. Facts only |
Ibime: ![]() I don know say you go soon come. The peoples champ. Again let's ignore the verbatim words from players and coaches and blame Emenalo. |
diggz:Yes because it makes sense to judge Baba who played less than a 1/3rd of all available matches during the worst Chelsea season for over 20 years. |
diggz:14 million will not get you anything better than Azpi in today's market. The sooner you realise that, the less likely you are to have a heart attack. The club spent 15m on Felipe Luiz and that one too could not displace Azpilicueta. So instead of spending stoopid money on a a new left back, they decided to buy a young prospect and train him up. Thus thing isn't so difficult to grasp. Shouting he is not Roberto Carlos is completely irrelevant because nobody ever said he was. Nobody expected him to be either. |
mithel:The only thing stoopid here is your inability to differentiate between an analogy and a fact. Bertrand and Azpi are the same age. Fact Azpi was established first choice. Fact. How do you expect Betrand to realistically displace Azpi when he's not getting any minutes to develop? How do you expect Bertrand to get the minutes he needs when Azpi is so much better than him? PFA team inclusion is only one indicator from a multitude of indicators to show that a player is good. Asking why Azpi did not make PFA team of the year is patently stoopid when Aguero didn't make the team despite being the highest goal scorer(in fewer minutes too) that year. Arguing that Baba is was 'dispalced' by Kennedy is completely pontless because neither was a member of the first team anyway. My only point here is that Baba now has a chance to keep developing at Schalke. If he doesn't develop then we cut our losses and sell. If he does develop we either play him or sell for a profit. qed. |
diggz:I just gave you several examples of wingers who were converted to fullbacks primarily to retain their attacking instincts on the pitch. |
mithel:Bertrand is UBER useless. He made the PFA team as part of a solid defensive core for Soton that year. As soon as the likes of Clyne and Aldeirweireld bounced, the team went from being one of the tightest units around to conceding somthing like 11 goals in just 3 games. Southampton is a team where the best leave for better things year on year including both Players and Managers. Bertrand is one of the ones that aint going nowhere. He will stay there, see them come and watch them go like Dr Dre. Bertrand is useless. |
diggz:Bertrand at Baba's age was playing at Aston Villa. Baba is now at Schalke. That alone should suggest that there is something different there. Bertrand is useless. The guy that kicked him out of the team was his agemate. How can you play understudy to a guy born the same year as you? When will you get the chance to prove yourself if you're both advancing at the same rate in terms of age but not development? ![]() Baba is 22. I cannot over emphasize that. 22 years old with 4 years of professional experience. This guy is the perfect deputy both in terms of age and experience. You are the one that is disappointing yourelf because you did not hold realistic expectations from the beginning. You were expecting someone that would chase Azpi away, but the club went and bought an unfinished article. I don't think you understand that there is a massive scarcity of top 4 quality left backs right now. Look at our rivals for the top 4 - Monreal/Gibbs, Rose/Ben davies, Kolarov/Clichy, Shaw/Rojo. If if was so easy to find a quality left back, one of these guys would have found it. Even further afield in Europe, the likes of Barca(Alba), Madrid(Marcelo), Bayern(Alaba) only have one good left back each. That's why the club is looking for raw youngsters with the right exposure like baba rahman to develop. Ake is also on the developmental list but it seems his future is not at LB either. If we kept Ake to play LB, his career would stagnate because barring serious injury, he would never get the constant minutes he needs to develop. Ditto baba. And baba is even the better fullback. If you expected something better than Azpilicuata for only 14 million pounds, then you only have yourself to blame. That's the ballpark fee for average pros like Bertrand or young talents like Baba. Facts only. |
afrodoc2:Defensive ability in a full back is a secondary trait. The likes of Bellerin, Dany Rose and I believe even Dani Alves were converted wingers. I read a match report that suggests that Jesus navas has been playing Wing Back for Pep in preseason. This is Bellerin on his development as a full back: And the full-back told a number of national newspapers how he owes much to Bould's assistance, saying: "When I first came to Arsenal, I didn't know how to defend. And that's because attacking instinct cannot be taught, you either have or you dont. Ake is a defensive player. Going forward he offeres relatively little. With good coaching and application, Baba has the solid potential to be a star fullback either for us, or for someone else. |
diggz:Baba Rahman did not get enough time. He played around 14 games in piecemeal minutes all last season. This is a young player moving to a new league, and struggling for minutes. I've always said that the loan system is good for development and this Schalke loan looks good for him. Bertrand is useless abeg. Stop calling that guy's name. Bertarand was competing with a right back his own age and still couldn't cut it. I never once suggested that Baba was ready to displace Azpi. My own has been Baba is better than Ake, and that's patently obvious. |
afrodoc2:Baba IS better than Ake. The issue is that Azpilicueta is better than both at LB and not too good at Right Back. Azpi has chased away Ashley Cole, Betrand, and Filipe Luis. It is madness to believe that he can be displaced that easily. For Baba to develop he needs proper gametime, that he will not get this season at the club. After Bayern and Dortmund, Schalke has a good argument to claim that they are the next biggest(or at least one of the biggest) teams in Germany. Schalke will not request Baba if he is not good. If he can establish himself at Schalke this season, then he will be very well developed to either come back and challenge for a spot, or build solid transfer value. |
Nihilist reporting for duty. Top 20 regular for the last 4 seasons. Send the code to jackbauersballs@gmail.com. A40 lalaboi raumdeuter Kofo are we doing it again like ll cool j? I need A40's cash for alimony payment |
diggz:Young players develop with game time. Baba is only 22. He needed game time to adapt to the EPL, and he didn't get enough. Baba has now been loaned to a European regular, that has finished finished in top 4 positions 3 times over the last 4 seasons. If Baba can cement a first team role at Schalke, then this could be very good for his development, which would be very good for us...either on the pitch or on the bank balance |
This is just giving a dog a bad name to hang it. The same Conte that sent Baba away on loan is the same guy that sent Ake away on loan. Ake went away to go and learn his trade at central midfield. He is not a leftback. Nathan Ake: "I can play in different positions. I like to get on the ball defensively play hard, with tackles and things like that," "I think I am a holding midfielder, when I came to Chelsea I played as a centre back but then was told I was too small. So I changed to left back and then to midfield, I’ve been going around in circles! But last year I played left back, although my preferred position is holding midfield." Eddie Howe(Bournmouth Manager): "He was used predominantly at left-back by Watford and also played for them at centre-back. His favoured position is as a central midfielder." Nathan Ake on Conte: "To get an eye on how I cope, I think he[Conte] wants to see me play a season there[Midfield] in the Premier League," Ake said. "The manager has been in discussions with the technical director (Michael Emenalo) at Chelsea. After this season, we'll see how I get on, This is what happens when facts direct from the horse's mouth are not allowed to get in the way of a popular narrative. |
GBR1:I think it's mostly because there arent too many young English defenders in the EPL today. Stones wasnt even in the first team for Everton and didn't play at the Euros. Youth + English premium is responsible for the inflated transfer fee |
Gbola5:Clearly not. So I do not expect the history to be the same as the books |
Gbola5:Why are you always in a hurry to correct prople? It really annoys me when someone quotes me without reading and understanding what I wrote. I did not say that Alliser was in on the plot to assasinate Snow... I only said his motivations to kill Jon are different. Jon's assasination was politically justifiable in thr books. In the show they switched it up completely and then gave the hatred allisers face. That is exactly what I was pointing out to the Knight of banterbury |
SIRcumalot:Aegon/yoing gruff plot line is extremely important because in the books Varys is backing that kid and not Danaerys. The removal of that character significantly has an effect on the Varys character, removing the motivation to be a shadow king and replacing it with patriotism It also means that that scene at the end of season 6 will possibly not have happened because Varys would probably not be negotiating an alliance for Danaerys instead of his own character. The logical implication of the show proceeding so far ahead and of the books is the assumption that the source material is merely a reference point, rather than canon. |
SIRcumalot:There are actually several characters missing from the show that would have seen the show take different dimensions - Aegon Targaryen for example, would have a significant effect on both Tyrion and Varys's storylines in the show. Jon Snow's death as another example, is portrayed completely differently, not just artistically, but in terms of plot as well. Alliser's motivations to murder Jon are based on events that did not happen in the show. The ages of many of the characters in the show are quite inconsistent with those in the books. Robb stark in not a full grown man when he's killed at the Red Wedding as depicted in the show. He's like 15 or 16. This goes beyond artistic differences. The show and the books are completely different worlds. They just share some plot points, characters, and mythology but that's it. The best I can say is that perhaps the show is set an alternate dimension of the book. |
BraniacX:Errm no it is not. The extant difference between the show and the book is significant enough to have it's own wikipedia page. In case you haven't realised, the show is not actually a dramatisation of the books. Both just happen to share some plot points and characters, which is not surprising as the show is based on the books. But a story can strongly draw from source material yet retain it's separateness in a way that is both familiar and unique. Compare and Contrast Moses vs Sargon of Akkad, Jesus vs Horus, or even Comic Book Avengers vs Movie Avengers. The only way to prove without doubt that both share the same history is to highlight a scene(s) within the show that provides to a full history of the asoiaf universe that is consistent with what can be found in the books. I'll save you the trouble now and let you know that such a scene does not exist. |
Gbola5:Errr...No they don't. The show is significantly different enough to occupy it's own universe |
The first unusual thing about Stones’ transfer (or, more exactly, the transfer fee) is that Everton are not an elite club and Stones is not yet an elite player. Of the top ten transfer fees in history (€69m+), four involved a superclub buying from another superclub, while five others (Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne and Gonzalo Higuain) involved players recently named as the best in their respective leagues or continents. The only exception (James Rodriguez) had just won the World Cup Golden Boot. And Jose wanted to bring this dullard to the club sha.. Stones ko, Okuta ni |
nateevs:Innit? ![]() The article is almost a composite of 3 to 4 of your posts Even using the same anecdotes So Guy Bennett is your 'guy name' on the streets of London |
Just found out that Martin Caeceres is available on a free transfer. Sign him up as a squad player on a 2 year contract. He's still only 29 |
Are you sure nateevs didn't write that article? ![]() I disagree with picking wage ranking as arbitary determinant of team strength because it does not allow for the consideration of the following factors: 1. Opposition Talent could be underpaid. I believe that Xavi at his maximum wage was earning less than Toni Kroos. And we know who the better player is. If you compare the wage packets of the likes of Malouda, Wright Phillips,or Fernando Torres to their counterparts in other teams who were actually better than them, then the flaw becomes immediately apparent. 2. Paying over the odds to attract talent. Imagine a player like Raheem Sterling going for 50m and earning 250k a week. Imagine Pogba signing for 120m and 300k a week. Imagine freaking Torress, Falcao,Cuadrado, etc. Those guys aren't earning their astronimacal wages because they are that good - sometimes football clubs are forced to pay world class sums to get average players. Falcao, Torres,Pato would have all massively increased the wage bill without a comensurate increase in talent. So I cant agree with that bogus metric. I agree with many other things he said though. I definitely hold Mourinho personally responsible for our dismal showing last season - However, like I've always said, it takes a lot more than money to buy success. Mourinho is a fantastic manager regardless of his spending, and I'm sure that he will do well at United. |

120m for Pogba is breathtakingly shocking... And all because he's a big man that does legover |
