folu500: Pls house can anyone enlighten me on the process of filling and recovering losses incured in previous years. Am talking of a financial advisory firm.Dear Folu500, Your question is not that clear, is it that you want to recover or relief your previous years losses so your tax liability is reduced? If it is the latter, then it is set off against your adjusted profit, (before deducting capital allowance- which is limited to two-third of the assessable profit),meanwhile, your loss can only be carried forward for four years. NB: Losses brought forward can only be set-off against income from the same source from which the loss was incurred originally. I hope this settles it, if not, then you need to be more elaborate. Thanks. |

Jarus: But there is what is called for karma for one that gets there through unholy means. I don't believe the end justifies the means. The means is equally important. You really did stick a pin in my ass here, cos my darling football club just had her own share of the karma thing yesterday, a real pain in the asss. Meanwhile, nothing is wrong with networking/legging up/lobbying/connection/padi-padi things, so far it is not the unholy type, and the main is to do things that are morally accepted in the society no matter the circumstance or situation around. We shouldn't be a fan of egoism. As for Nitrogen, it is like this: 1. Go to a top notch school if you want to get a pali outside the shores of Naija. 2. Network people, it is quite important because it will reduce the stress and time to get a nice job. 3. Those up there, do well to help others too so they can get to the top, it is necessary. 4. Lastly, be the best you can intelligently/intellectually, because normally, networking should only help recommend you, you will need to write tests, go through various processes (due process) so you can be the best for the job. Nb: I think big guys and top notch guys are those in the thread, so they do not need those thrash up there (except number 3, which I believe they always do), it is for 'them' starters like us. |
Jarus: He is kidding. Bribery, sex or money-for-job are never networking, formal or informal.Egbon, the end justifies the means, so far both na to achieve the same objective, should we care about the way Mr A and Mr B got to the same destination? Might it interest you that Mr A although used an informal means, got to that place ahead of Mr B. Then there will be a round of applause and a standing ovation for him. ![]() Abi now. |
Jarus: How on earth do you compare sleeping for job with researching what's an interview is about?Bros, the former is informal while the latter is formal. End of discussion! ![]() |
coogar: it's networking in plain english but it's "paddy know paddy" in pidgin english. the moment you network, you have the unfair advantage unless you put the information you get from such relationships to public use and give every applicant am equal chance.Sincerely, I really get Mr Cooger's point, to call a spade a spade, networking is networking, whether you as a lady intend sleeping with an oga to get a job or have an edge over others in any job application, or you lobby to get information of interviewers and details of tests to be written, or you meet with an ED so he can recommend you and put you ahead of others, or whatever and whichever way, they are all to achieve an objective, earn an undue advantage, get an edge over others and get the much coveted job, after that, since there is always in-house training, and others, it may not be difficult to get to the top/progress within the shortest period. But wait! We are assuming that applicants/graduates/jobseekers here are all above average intellectually. What I will dispute with @cooger is the fact that you as a secondary school holder (without your degree(s)) can function anywhere and at any level in a workplace setting, hell no! You cannot but function only at the operational level. Take it that way. Maybe I can still chip this in: Networking can be said to be of two types, FORMAL and INFORMAL networking. But all join, na to get job be koko, else conman is on the jonzing level. Meanwhile, lol at the bolded, make oga jarus no catch you o. |
honey86: Unfortunately its the truth. I have discovered that not all UK universities are schools. Take for example, pple studying hr in university of salford only spend 3 weeks in class and the remaining 7 weeks doing nothing.Biko, which kain school be that. What about naija students in woverhampton who pay their colleagues to write essays for them?.Those ones too will come back and complain of their inability to get jobs.Exactly! |
Mr Fashola, carry go jooorrrr and don't stop telling them, it is necessary. |
One thing that I believe is that spending millions of naira to get a foreign 'pali' in a useless foreign university and not a top notch one is completely an unwise one. You will still come back and join the league of freshies of local universities looking for entry level jobs, especially when you ship yourself out without a single work experience. |
AjanleKoko: Not serious jobs or serious companies. ![]() |
Jarus: So which work or aspect of accounting is not monotonous?Management Accounting Jarus: Yes, it does. Gross income = gross emoluments.I thought as much, thanks. |
Well said, Oga Jarus! With all that stated up there, I still think tax accounting is a monotonous work. Like the 'issue(s) with FIRS/SIRS thing', only clarifications and some sorting out is needed, or at worse, a tax audit is carried out in your company. Arguably, the amendments to those acts brings out challenges (not much anyway), and maybe it is best for amendments to be done every five years. Btw, the new PITA has got something unclear to many, maybe 'una' can help out. Here we go: 'CRA (Consolidated Relief Allowance), which replaces personal relief is to be computed as the higher of #200k or 1% of gross income, plus 20% of gross income' Meanwhile gross income isn't defined by the act (as amended), but gross emoluments, does that automatically replace our gross income ? |
The lady come resemble MERLIN, anyways, the thing fit am small. |
Good Day Sir, As they say, Tax Accounting is interesting and quite challenging, interesting because of the PIT, CIT, Payroll computations and others using spreadsheet programs, also the self assessment form shitties, permit me to say that it is only the PPT area that I haven't touched being that it was just a six-month internship. But the challenge isn't there, you keep doing the same thing, year in, year out. Please sir, disprove my assertions here. Maybe there are some aspects I do not know of, that will make someone like me to say 'bring them on'. Meanwhile, as per the 'tussle' between CITN and ICAN, the former is winning, but, let me ask this, assuming the supreme court judgement (if the latter eventually appeal at the SC) still favour CITN, does it mean that a chartered accountant will not be able to carry out tax audit exercises? Or there is an act that still backs ICAN members as regard 'tax audit'? Thanks Nitrogen. |
