Hello guys, I greet you all! @Chupnaz, @startflux, @Inxyz, @stewiepeter et al, you guys are doing great work here, kudos!

Please, I intend applying for MSc at UiS and NTNU. I have gone through application requirements on their websites and also mailing them personally.

Is authentication/notorize/legalise of supporting documents done only at Ministry of foreign affairs and ministry of education?

Another challenge is that I don't have my BSc certificate yet and my waec and Degree statement of result are laminated, hope this won't affect the notorization?

Please, I need input on this because I want to have all necessary documents in place before application commences.

@chupnaz, I will need your personal input more because you are studying the course I intend studying too. And I need you to brief me on job prospect post graduation.

Looking forward to kind response from you guys.

Cheers.

I have carefully gone through this forum, I have heard schools in Dublin, Limerick, Griffith college and so on.
Does school like IT tralee exist? if yes please can gurus in this forum give information on it.
IT Tralee exists. Merits of studying there include paying lesser tuition compared to other universities in the country. Cheaper accommodation, but less part time jobs compared to Dublin or other major cities in Ireland.

Dear All, please help a brother ooooo. I got a joint international masters offer from UCD, which requires that i will only spend the first and last semester in Dublin. While, i will spend the second and third semesters in other institutions outside Dublin. Each of the four semesters cost 3,000 euro amounting to 12,000 euro which i am expected to pay at the beginning of every semester. All these are stated on the offer letter.

My question is, am i suppose to pay for UCD first and last semesters because of the 6,000 euro benchmark for Visa application or just the first semester then pay for the last semester when i am coming back to Dublin for the last semester?

Are the other participating schools outside Dublin, or Ireland?

Travel / Re: To Non-Nigerians; Is The "Nigerian Accent" appealing? by niyogeol(m): 4:10pm On May 27, 2018
I took time to read through this thread and no surprises from what I read so far. I had no intention to post here initially but I just had to contribute to the subject considering the heated arguments that ensued between some posters here. This topic was a subject of discussion between me and some folks just few days ago. I have not even seen this thread at the time. And part of that discussion was the continuous use of English and French by most African countries years after independence. I guess this will make a good topic of discussion for another day!

I will always say this: accent for spoken English varies across continents, from country to country and from people to people. Respect and open mindedness is what is required to get along with people from different side of the divide. When other non English speaking European nationals who have little or no understanding of English speak to their European English speaking nationals, they always find a way to understand them no matter how terrible they sound. But the moment an African speaks, they are quick to show their impatience in listening and the accent narrative crops up! To buttress my points, I find it difficult to hear an average Irish speak - especially their young ones. The first Scottish person I came in contact with was on another level of accent which I couldn't reckon with until I asked where he came from. Asians also have their own peculiar accents. I have not seen Asians discuss issues like this because they use their various languages as means of communication even though most of the Asian countries were colonized by the British.

And for the Americans, I have come in contact with few people from Texas, Louisiana and Tennessee. They all have different accents. This further shows that accent is peculiar. England as a country is on another level of it. People from Liverpool speak differently from people from London and Bristol not to talk of people from Wales and Northern Ireland. As for our English speaking counterparts from Africa - South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, et al; I have come in contact with couple of them and I must say their accent is not as heavenly as some folks here want us to believe.

If you have rightly observed, when the so called native English speakers speak and you don't hear them, they see you as one who doesn't understand English. But when you speak and they don't understand you, they still tell you you've got thick accent. And for those born outside of Nigeria, your accent is/was influenced by your environment and nothing more. If you were born in Nigeria, your accent won't be any different from Nigerians depending on the part of the country you come from or live.

In all fairness, female native English speakers are better listeners than their male counterparts.

I have been taught by Italian, English, Croatian, Dutch and Irish professors and they all pronounce words differently. Like I earlier stated, respect and open mindedness is what is required to get along with everyone.

Business / Re: Statoil Loses 5% Stake In Agbami Oilfield, To Pay Chevron $1.1bn by niyogeol(m): 10:14am On May 14, 2018
Oil companies partners with other companies mainly to reduce risk associated with a project - cost of exploration and development (Capex & Opex) and share expertise. This is sometimes done through farm-in or farm-out; or bidding together for the license from the bidding rounds. The company with the highest stake in the project usually is the operator; in this instance - Chevron Nigeria Ltd. So all partner companies fulfill their financial obligations based on their stake in the project.

NNPC as the National oil company has stake in E & P projects in Nigeria but most times don't meet up her part of the financial obligation. Reason for the cash call. Reward in Production Sharing Contract of this nature (after cost oil - the share of production that the company will receive for recovery of the costs it has incurred, which is usually subject to a maximum amount) is usually shared amongst operators after production tax, income tax and royalty has been paid to the government of the host nation. Partners get rewarded based on their stake in the project.

Statoil remittance will be the excess they have gotten from thier 20% that has been reduced to 15% by this ruling from when the ruling became bonding all parties in the suit. This arbitration is the contract aspect of E&P business and its mainly handled by lawyers.

To the best of my knowledge, you are not eligible to apply for PPS number on a short stay visa. Don't bother honoring the appointment. They will request for your passport which will show the category of visa you have. Also, you need an evidence of what you need the pps number for - in most cases which is to remit tax, and get social welfare. No let them call olopa for you o.

I stand to be corrected though.

To the bset of knowledge, students are usually given single entry. If there is need for you to travel out of the island after your arrival, you need to apply for re-entry visa which cost €60 for single entry and €100 for multiple.

Hello Ireland hopefuls,

Nice thread on Ireland.

Please, I applied for a Funded PhD position in National University of Ireland, Galway sometimes in February 2018. I forwarded my applications directly to the supervisor in charge as instructed on the advert.

On opening the Postgraduate Application Centre (PAC) website for the school 2 days ago, I had been given an offer as was displayed on my application status and was given till 15th May to accept. I have accepted and my acceptance have been acknowledged.

However, I do not know if the offer comes with the funding since there was no explicit explanation.

I was just thinking if anyone has similar experience even if it's on MSc level.

That was the PhD advert as below.

https://www.findaphd.com/search/projectdetails.aspx?PJID=94575

Thanks in advance for your response.
If you have accepted the offer as claimed, I believe conditions of the offer would be stated in the mail sent to you. Also, advertised PhD positions are towards specific projects and usually are paid - ie, you don't pay tuition and you get stipend montly.

If you not clear about the offer, endeavor to reach your proposed supervisor.

The two (2) years is not given at a time. One year first. When going for the second year, one has to show evidence that one has made attempt to get a job,
Internship, interview(s) invite whilst the first 1 year lasted.
ICaSNg:

The 2 years work permit is automatic. However to further extend your work permit after the 2 years , you should be able to land a full-time employment.

I wanted to Pm niyogeol and ICaSNg but i decided against that as questions i may ask could help others on here.

I would be completing my BA degree in Business from UK by March (2 months from now) and i have decided against doing my masters in UK as it is going to be a waste of funds paying another £10-15k without getting Post study visa.

I decided on Canada and Ireland but unfortunately most schools in Canada will not give admission to students still awaiting results for PG studies unlike schools in Ireland that are willing to do this (my final results should be out by June).

Niyogeol, which PG course would you suggest for a business student based on job availability in Ireland (I intend to attend any of the top 7 schools in Ireland)? I am thinking of doing Human resources but your suggestions will be of great help. I have done my own findings but i want to hear directly from people who are in Ireland currently. thank you.

P.S

As for maintenance funds, school fees, visa etc I am already familiar wit all that since UK and Ireland have similar systems.
Any business related course will fly. But am not sure if your budget of £10,000 - 15,000 will fly for TCD and UCD. These two schools been the best in the country come with high tuition for non Eu citizens. Having studied in England, you will get English waiver if you call their attention to it. You might look at UCD's M.Sc in International Law and Business.

I hope this helps. Sorry for the late response.

If am not mistaken, this is your second time of asking this question. Getting job anywhere is a matter of chance and preparation. So like boys scout, be prepared.

I think you should evaluate and do a risk assessment if it is worth committing your resources to.

Job or success is not guaranteed anywhere. We live by hope. So you can only hope for the best.

Part time job shouldn't be too difficult to find. For job after graduation, I have no story to share as regards that now.

No. The address for opening bank account should be standard address because the debit card that will be issued to you by the bank will be sent to the address. Bank statement is required for the IRP registration. Also the IRP card will be sent to your address in about 10 working days. So it is important to use address where you can receive stuffs of that nature.

Okay. I don't know what is obtainable in your school, but registration shouldn't take much time as such. Try to get your student I'd and an address (The address of the temporary accommodation is tenable in this case) and proceed to Dublin Bus office building at O'Connell street to get it as soon as possible. Like I said before, this will save you cost.

Printing your statement of account before paying your tuition is not out of place. Just ensure you have the sum to cater for your tuition and your upkeep. Part time job will/might cater for your rent and day to day need but won't pay your tuition.

Note that €7,000 is what you need as evidence for upkeep.

hello everyone I have just been offered a place at Dublin institute of technology. MSC sustainable development. Pls I will be glad to meet anybody from the school who can share a thing or two with me. Also I like to know if there is a specific period of time BTW when you print your SOA and when you submit your application. Because I am considering printing my SOA before paying my tuition.
This means that my SOA will carry a date that is earlier than the date on my receipt and admission letter. I am thinking if everything is still within a month then I am good. Your professional advise is needed pls. thanks.

To the dude complaining about transportation, please endeavor to get a student leap card. It will save you cost. Leap card is acceptable on Dublin Bus, Dart, Luas, and Tram. Try to avoid taxi as much as possible except if you're from the elite class, and you have the cash to play with.

GNIB card has been replaced with IRP - Irish Residence Permit. The GNIB card still remains valid for its holders till it expires. Since you are in Dublin, try to book an appointment to suit the date stamped on your passport when you entered Ireland. You also need an address to open a bank account. So if you don't have that yet, I will advice you get a place for yourself. This is one important thing you need to settle first.

As other posters have said, Aldi and Lidl should be your go to stores for groceries as they are cheaper compared to other stores.

Regards.

Backpackers are hostels offering temporary accommodation not more than 14 days at a stretch. Kinlay, Abraham hostel and Egali to mention but a few can be found in Dublin. It is advisable to book via mail or phone.

If you will be staying or arriving towards the weekend, ensure you pay to cover the weekend before a Friday because prices are higher for weekends than week days. Like I said earlier, this is not important if you have someone who will/can accommodate you before getting a place for yourself.

i should be in Dublin by the 20th....Wanna try to get in as early as possible so i can sort out accommodation
Hello Pristine88, happy new year and welcome to Dublin in advance.

My little advice to you:

If you don't have a place to stay for the interim before getting your own place, ensure you book a temporary accommodation with any of the backpackers place, because you might be asked if you have a place to stay at the Port of entry.

Ensure you bring basic things you need for the first 2-3 months because you might not find it funny buying some of these things with your naira induced euro. Things like detergent, if you a female, get your monthly uniform - I hope you understand what I mean by this.

As regards accommodation, its pretty expensive here. So it is not out of place to stay in a place that is an hour or less by bus to your school. What I mean is that you shouldn't be too fixed on getting accommodation at the city center as it is usually more expensive. Just ensure you get a place that is on a frequent bus route.

If you are a lover of your naija home made food(s), ensure you come with the necessary food stuffs useful in preparation of such.

This is all I can remember for now. Do feel free to ask any question(s).

Failte to Dublin in advance.

Regards.

Good morning, just started following this thread. My spouse just got a job in Ireland and would be relocating. I would like to follow him to help him get settled. However, I have no job here. All I have is my shop. What evidence can I show them that I will be coming back to Nigeria so the don't refuse me, because I need to come back to apply for the join spouse visa. We have no children yet but my extended family is in Nigeria, is that a good reason for them to know I'm coming back.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you
Let your spouse get his visa approved first if that has not been achieved. After which you can apply for family reunion.

I hope this helps. Regards.
