I'm guessing you registered with BC. Search online for the number of their Kano office and call. Your payment will be confirmed within 24 hours. You probably paid through another person's account.

FaskRolce:
I need help please.
I registered for ielts on Wednesday and made payment (by transfer) on Thursday 1st March. I sent my evidence of payment to the email provided and up til now I haven't gotten a confirmation mail. Yesterday, I was sent a mail that if I don't make payment within 24hours,my registration would be cancelled so I called their center today and gave the lady my details and she said she will forward to the appropriate channel.I also sent a reminder mail to the payment email provided. At the 24th hour I received a mail that my registration has been cancelled. What do I do please? I intend to write on the 23rd of this month? Do I re_register? Will the payment be linked to my new reference number? Who has experienced this before?please O, I'm becoming unsettled.

Salut etrange! Welcome back! Thank you - we have only God to thank for it.

You really need to stop this your disappearing and reappearing act...my heart can't take it anymore cry (especially now that it seems as if Bellerin is following in your footsteps)

etrange:

Yeah!!!!!

Our thread has been lightened up! Damn!

Congratulations ma! You've set the pace!

This timeline, wow! This is good!

Mudicua:
Congratulations.I just joined this thread, and came upon your post.

I am looking at this avenue as well, to take TEF, but I only just have very limited knowledge of french. Please how long did it take you to study and pass very well in french, or did you have a background in French.
Je parle un peu francais parceque c'est longtemps je etudie francais. Mais je veux apprendre vite vite.... cheesy cheesy cheesy

The bolded section was written off the top of my head. But please I am seriously in need of a guide on what to do.
My CRS scores right now is 429 and except for a miracle, I am not certain this will give me an ITA.
So I was thinking i could go into the pool with 429, and do my french while in the pool and then update and see what happens.

Another question is whatif i do not get up to CLB 7 in all the areas, that means I do not get points for french, but i will still get the 30 points right?
Please how does this work?

Thanks.

Thanks Mudicua.

From the bolded, you obviously understand French quite well. My only suggestion would be to study the TEF books to determine how difficult (or easy wink)the exam may be for you. You can then start studying using any of the means that have been highlighted on this thread, focusing more on your weaker areas.

Please dive into the pool ASAP if you have your IELTS and ECA ready. You can never tell, a miracle can happen and you'll get NOI from one of the provinces, like one of us here just did.

To your last question, you'll get some points if you get CLB 5 and above in any section but you need to get CLB 7 in all sections to get the additional 30 points. To explain this, let's say you get CLB 7 in 3 sections and CLB 4 in the remaining section, you'll get 9 additional CRS points. On the other hand, with CLB 7 in all sections, you get 42 additional CRS points. Someone posted the link where you'll see this on the CIC website - please search for it

Bonne chance!

Thank you for this information @ Mamaroon. My wife went to make inquiry's at AF in Ibadan. They said the TEF exam can now be taken at AF in Ibadan at the cost price is 120k. But for beginners, one will need 8 months of study from beginner to advanced before one can be really confident to write the TEF exams. From your experience, what do you think?

The bolded is good news. Hopefully other AF centres will jump on this train soon. Lower the cost even more

To put your mind at ease, I think it's better you raise a CSE with the newspaper publication or affidavit

topeolu1:
Hello people, I submitted my application already. However, I will like to know if marriage certificate is sufficient proof of legal change of name for my wife. I realized I didn't include the newspaper publication. Will an affidavit attachment still be required being a marriage under the act or what is called court marriage? Although I noticed the form having a selection about previous name before marriage, as one of the reasons. Do I need to do anything or raise a cse on this?

Scard:

For the above, I would say I am making good progress. However, the only major challenge now is the actual sentence construction. I am realising that writing single simple sentences is far different from writing complex sentences that forms an essay or journal. I pray I am able to get around that pretty quickly

My only suggestion would be to read sample french essays and letters. That can guide you on how to write yours.

The Competences books on expression ecrite and comprehension ecrite have some samples.

Yea you're right @ the bolded.

But errm, you forgot to thank Scard for asking the question in the first place, because I don't think these points would've come up without it.

Rooting for you still. Good luck in your next exam

Mamaroon:

Very interesting to hear you say (from the blog) exactly the same as NJ..i.e. develop an argument for....then develop an argument against...then conclude...NJ was doing it because she couldn't think of 3 pros or 3 cons (I think)....but little did she know that it is a french style of writing....later she will say she is not a wizz kid....I appreciate you both so much....I'm overwhelmed with gratitude because you guys have opened my eyes to something crucial that I was missing....seriously....

EE had been my nemesis..... No more by God's grace. Thanks Ayboye...thanks NJ...and to everyone else (Bellerin, Mariah, DanMisla) too your tips are adding up.

Wow...thanks ayboye. This post is really enlightening. Very succinctly put

ayboye:
This is a very useful post, thanks @njbybrthnly for sharing these tips!

I did not do a single writing exercise while preparing for my TEF and I still managed to get C1 for that competence. The secret is to obey certain rules when writing Essay in French. These are the four things I focused on for Section B of Written Expression:

1. Draw up a plan for the essay.
2. Writing Logic .i.e. Dialectic Dissertation (more on this later)
3. Never write below the minimum required words, which is 200.
4. Clearly present your points with simple sentences with a few subjonctive tenses but avoid spelling and grammatical errors as much as possible.

Hope these scores are enough to get ITA. If not, just keep at it and success is sure. Wishing you all the best
ayboye:
OMG, I'm really
sorry everyone. I was also supposed to share some tools I used but I've been extremely busy hence the silence.

I do read the thread once in a while, I just don't respond.

My TEF result:
Reading B2
Listening B2
Writing C1
Speaking B2

The tricky thing about TEF is no matter how good the result of the different competences look, a low score in one part can spoil the whole fun.
My B2 in Reading and Listening are CLB 6, meaning I am not able to get the extra points.

The level of difficulty is relative - it depends on the test taker, but I would say speaking is easiest as they seem to be more lenient in the scoring

As you are already a French speaker, I think you should familiarize yourself with the exam format, and prepare accordingly

DexterousOne:

Oui
Je parle français déjà

Mais pas très couramenr comme sa

How difficult will you rate the tef exam? ?
Like how difficult is each of the four parts?

Hi guys. I hope we're all progressing along steadily in our studies for the French exam. I have a few words that may encourage us even more:

I HAVE GOTTEN PPR!!!!!!!!!!!!
AOR: December 14, 2018
PPR: February 20, 2019

I remember when my TEF results came out, hubby always used to say that our app processing time will be very short because Canada is looking for bilingual people grin. I just used to nod in agreement but it's like IRCC decided to prove him right o.

That aside though, I give God all the glory. He has come through for me in a very specific way (honestly I feel like before now He had left me in the care of His angels and then sometime last year, He singled me out and decided to place His hand on my head...blessings upandan, left, right and centre) and I didn't even need to beg and cry. First, with the TEF (which I did as a trial run not knowing He had other plans), and now this, PPR in 9 weeks 5 days post-AOR, with loads of other blessings inbetween. Words can't express how grateful I feel right now.

So, in case you're looking for something extra to motivate you, let's test my oga's theory which states that, EE applications with good IELTS and additional points from TEF/TCF results have a very short processing time grin grin grin grin

Who knows? Hubby might be on to something wink. Let's keep at it guys, you could be next.

I'm so overwhelmed that my head is even paining me cry

Merci bien. C'est toi qui m'inspire.

Keep it up and before long, tu vas aussi reussir. Bonne chance!

Onebase79:
Je suis heureux être ici. Je commence apprendrer le français en janvier cet année. Merci beaucoup tout le monde pour les livres et votre advicées. grin this is my first time writing in french. C'est mon 1er le temps écriter en français

The plan is to self study for the first half of the year, then study solely for the exam over the next half. The resources on this thread has been of tremendous help, especially "learn French with Michel Thomas". Merci monsieur @bellerin

So far:
It has been overwhelming especially with the numerous resources available. But I think I have found what works for me.
*I changed all my device language to french.
*I try to watch French videos especially on topics I have interest in. That way I already have an idea what they are talking about and I can quickly link words.
*when I'm watching English videos, I try to translate it to French in my head.
*I think the trick to pronouncing mots correctly is to master the alphabets, voyelles, consonnes and their combinations.

Je voudrais encourager vous. Vous pouvez le faire !
@njbybthnly you inspire me. J'espère être like you when I grow up

Edit:
In addition, you'll need to practice writing often (this may go without saying but I just thought to put it here)

Hi Scard,

Well, at first I studied several TEF writing samples which I found on YouTube (Enseignement de FLE channel especially), the TEF books and prepmyfuture.

As suggested by @Bellerin earlier, for the first section, read lots of faits divers articles online. Some popular French journals are le parisien, le monde and figaro. A simple Google search will lead you to their websites.

For the second section, prepmyfuture was indispensable to me because I observed from the examples given that the required letter had a standard format. First, unlike in IELTS, you don't write only the body of the letter, the complete letter is expected starting from the addresses. So you need to learn how the French write formal letters (unlike IELTS again, the letter is always formal unless they change the test format sometime in the future). The introduction and conclusion you can memorise embarassed and tweak it to align with the question on exam day (hope this makes sense).

For the body of the letter, learn the use of logical connectors like d'abord, de plus, d'une part...d'autre part, toutefois, en revanche, etc. You also need to learn some useful phrases that can be used to drive your point home like tout en reconnaissant que..., c'est un fait connu que, etc. Again, a simple Google search of french logical connectors will yield lots of materials

In the letter, you're to express your opinion on a particular topic. You can agree, disagree or both and you need to present at least 3 points to buttress your point (I chose to agree and disagree because I couldn't think of 3 points for or 3 points against). Either way, it is very important to note that your opinion must be stated clearly in the introduction and your points validate your opinion (what I mean is don't say you agree with the writer in your introduction, then present points that both agree and disagree in the body of the letter. Pick one and stick with it)

I think the most important thing is for your write-ups to flow logically and avoid grammatical errors. Then, of course, make sure you meet the word count.

Hope this helps. Will look for some documents I have on logical connectors and upload them later

Scard:
Good morning all,

Please @njbybrthnly, I really need your help. I have been part of this thread from beginning so, i read virtually all the tips shared. However, for someone who self-studied, how did you get by with writing? I have been trying and it doesn't seem to be working.

I beg you, what specific advice can you give that will assist me in my efforts.

Also, if there is anyone here with inputs, you are welcome to add yours.

Thank you all so much
