‎Emenike May Rejoin Former Club Karabukspor

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Karabukspor-emenike.jpg
By Johnny Edward:
Former Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, may return to his former club, Karabukspor, following the refusal of Fenerbahce coach Vitor Pereira to accept the forward for the second half of the season, according to ‎S por.mynet.com‎.

‎Emenike who is reportedly holidaying in England, saw his season loan move cut short after he failed to impress in his first six months at Al Ain despite scoring nine goals in 15 appearances for Zlatko Dalic’s side.

However, his performances have not been deemed strong enough to help the club’s quest for more silverware and that has prompted Pereira not to include the 28 year old striker in his roster for the second half of the season.

According to the Turkish website, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner is top of the wish list of Karabukspor.

The former Super Eagles ‎forward first played for Karabukspor from 2009 to 2011, from where he joined Fenerbahce in 2011.

Boboye Backs Chikatara To Emerge CHAN Top Scorer

https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/CHAN-chikatara.png
By Taiwo Adesanya:
Abia Warrior coach, Kennedy Boboye, has tipped Chisom Chikatara to win the top scorer award at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

The Home Eagles forward scored a hat-trick in Nigeria's 4-1 victory against Niger on Monday.
Boboye, who has just taken charge of the Glo Premier League side who Chikatara currently plays for, opined that Chikatara composure in front of goals will help him to achieve great feat in the competition and his career.

"Chisom Chikatara has all it takes to win the top scorer award in Rwanda," the ex-international told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.
"His composure in front of goal will help him achieve great feats in his career and at the completion."

He however urged the Warriors star player to keep his calm and not be carried away with the accolades.

Chikatara scored 13 goals during the 2015 league season.

Green: Oliseh Is Aware Tunisia Are Tough, Eagles’ll Be Ready

By Bamidele Boluwaji:
Nigeria Football Federation's Technical Committee Chairman, Chris Green has told Complete Sports that Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh is very much aware that Tunisia will be tougher than Niger, hence the former Juventus player is working really hard to approach the game with different mentality.

The Home Eagles defeated Niger 4-1 on Monday in their opening game of the Championship For African Nations holding in Rwanda and will be looking forward to another victory when they face Tunisia on Friday in their second game.

Speaking to Comple tesportsnigeria.com, Green who was recently named the new Technical Committee boss said no two matches are the same and the Super Eagles coach will ensure he gets the better of the Friday's game.

"Oliseh is very much aware of it and is preparing hard for the game," says the legal practitioner.

"No two matches are the same. It depends on how we approach the game. I know the Tunisians will prepare well for us especially coming out with one point from their last match. We too must be on top of our game, to get a result for a possible qualification to the next stage.

"The team will be in full flight because they would have gone through the nervousness of playing their first game. Oliseh too has shown that he's tactically sound and a good match manager. The players are confident and are in high spirits.

We pray for good luck, health and form. I'm proud of the team and Oliseh, and I maintain that we should be patient and give him time to build a solid team and instill his philosophy. It was a great win for him and Nigerians," he says

Five areas of improvement for Nigeria/Oliseh after Niger win

https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/b2/e6/confirmed-nigeria-xi-v-niger_ts2qn3qh7la21inj7bdm5s8ko.jpg?t=1512421130&w=320
The home-based Super Eagles moved the ball quite well and created dangerous situations, but the main ingredient that makes a team tick–synergy–was missing, even though they beat the Mena 4-1. Here are the five things for Sunday Oliseh to improve before their next match against Tunisia on January 22.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/8c/51/paul-onobi-nigeria_15c4m0c0i3ouw10gjrlaxp4r66.jpg?t=425069457&w=320
Over-use of the long ball from defence: On too many occasions during the encounter against the Mena, Paul Onobi and Ifeanyi Matthew tried to hit Tunde Adeniji with a ball straight from 50 yards or more. The explanation could be the anxiety of their perceived ability to execute this manoeuvre, but unfortunately, Adeniji was often offside. In the second half, the team played closer to each other and the introduction created intelligent running behind the centre-backs that resulted in three goals.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/73/fb/osas-okoro-nigeria-17102015_1s179i7prpqpt1aw1i1xbszrqj.jpg?t=2045144240&w=320
Offensive combination can be better: Prince Aggrey and Osas Okoro had the beating of their opponents, but the final ball was abysmal to say the least. Many times, they got to the by-line, but with options available, chose to go for goal when a simple pass would have produced a goal for the team. However, as with the above, the second half showed an improvement in their combination play, although Oliseh will surely have vented his discontent at the break.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/3e/9e/chimas-akas_xayvd6ydt3d91hrypecnfn82c.jpg?t=1719184880&w=320
The full-backs have to give more offensive options: Chima Akas and Matthew Etim were rarely beaten to the ball, but they played conservatively, not offering much in attack. However, with the Eagles widemen looking to cut in, the opportunity was there to offer an overlap. Perhaps only once did Etim get ahead of Okoro on the right side. When matches become choked in the middle and opponents are hard to break down, it’s imperative the Eagles offer width to trouble determined defenders.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/22/47/chan-2016-nigeria-training-in-pretoria_1l0kurjlptpx41rd68duw8tuh1.jpg?t=378331746&w=320
The players must keep their composure: Too many fouls and too many offside calls showed the eagerness of the players, both in defensive and offensive positions, to win the ball back quickly or to attack their opponents, although it could be explained as first-match jitters, and the anxiety to want to impress Oliseh. The second match against Tunisia should show an improvement, even though they will be meeting a more technical and intelligent set of players.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Tanzania/d8/89/chisom-chikatara_18di2uaqnpx4m183zffyy6grsm.jpg?t=1492871746&w=320
Chikatara must start: This is not taking anything away from Sunshine Stars’ Adeniji, he tried his best and to his credit, set up the first goal, but he was caught offside six times in his 58 minutes on the pitch. Chikatara showed more intelligent running and took 66% of his chances. Oliseh will surely recognize Chikatara as the team’s go-to guy now.
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Goal_Nigeria/50/55/sunday-oliseh_5t3p85srpdfazkbgcich92nm.jpg?t=302474585&w=320
The Eagles had a good match, but to win the tournament, fans will be expecting them to improve their technical proficiency, both their passing and their ability to take the right decisions and make the most of the opportunities presented to them. However, this will surely come under the guidance and coaching of Oliseh and his team. Kudos to the Eagles on this fine result, and may there be many more over the coming weeks.

Sunday Oliseh masters game-states in Niger demolition

The Super Eagles gaffer made minute adjustments at critical periods in Monday's game to emphatically see off the Mena at CHAN 2016

By Solace Chukwu
Monday’s 4-1 hiding of Niger was the perfect illustration of how influential various game-states can be within the context of a football match. It was not so much a game of two halves as one of various segments; viewed in that light, it was not one victory, but a combination of many little microcosmic victories.
https://static.goal.com/di/D5C5CA1DC8F1E4A78507FA6ABAA9A021.jpg
The first quarter of an hour saw the Super Eagles struggle for control, and their lack of stability showed in an early heavy foul-count. The early casualty of this, and perhaps the sacrifice for Sunday Oliseh’s first mini-triumph, was Jamiu Alimi. The Shooting Stars defender, shorn of regular defensive partner Austin Obaroakpo, looked like a giraffe on skates, and was promptly hauled off after earning the game’s first booking.

The introduction of Orji Kalu brought a semblance of calm, and while the team struggled to click into gear in a frustrating first period, it could rest in the knowledge that the back door stayed firmly shut.

A blistering start to the second period saw Nigeria edge ahead. Tunde Adeniji, serial loiterer behind the Niger backline all through the opening half, held his run to receive in the channel, and a calm head picked out Osas Okoro at the back post. The Rangers man replicated the coolness of execution, his cushioned volley contrasting beautifully with the passionate frothiness of a frenzied restart.

It was somewhat reminiscent of the sort of urgency the Super Eagles displayed in November’s World Cup qualifier against Swaziland after a stale first half; something in the team talk, perhaps?

What came after went completely against the logical progression from the first half: four more goals, including a hat-trick for Abia Warriors’ Chisom Chikatara.
Would he have decided the game so utterly with the score still goalless?

It is unlikely, and his introduction at a point when the team had ceded the initiative to the Mena proved an inspired decision by Oliseh.
https://static.goal.com/di/CEB822AE0BB0A77EB7465A874C6792E8.jpg
Alimi |Oliseh's first sacrifice
Emboldened by the passivity of their more illustrious opponents, Niger charged headlong over the cliff, careless in their desperation and leaving cavernous gaps. Their inexperience in chasing a one-goal deficit so early in the half was pitiful to watch, but there was no clemency from Chikatara. The ‘kolanut boy’ left a bitter taste in Nigerien mouths, volleying in from Okoro’s pass to double the advantage, and then quelling a potential comeback with a cool finish from inside the six-yard box.

His third, the culmination of a flowing move that saw him exchange passes with the lively but profligate Prince Aggreh, sealed a statement display from Oliseh’s team. For a team that has struggled for goals somewhat, this was almost the perfect result, clean sheet aside. That said, Zakari Adebayor’s blast was almost literally a bolt out of the blue, and is surely an early frontrunner for goal of the tournament.

It will be interesting to see how this team handles the ‘favourites’ tag—a result such as this surely paints a giant bull’s eye on the Super Eagles. It is unlikely either Guinea or Tunisia will be quite as callow, but by toting up little battles, Oliseh could well be on his way to winning the war.

Chikatara

Elvis Chisom Chikatara completed a deserved hattrick to guide Nigeria to a 4-1 emphatic victory over Niger in their Group C encounter at the ongoing Chan 2016 on Monday evening at the Kigali Regional Stadium in Rwanda.

Chikatara, who replaced the struggling Temitope Babatunde Adeniji in the second half, found the back of the net within minutes of coming on to double Nigeria’s lead in the 73rd minute after Moses Osadebamwen Okoro scored seconds into the second half.

Niger’s Adje Victorian Zakari Adebayor pulled one back for his side with a screamer with his left foot from 30 yards leaving Nigerian goalkeeper Ezenwa Ikechukwu with no option to save his shot.

Seconds later on the other end of the pitch, Chikatara ran between two defenders to tap home a superb pass from Okoro in the 81st minute.

The ‘kola nut boy’ mounted a search for a hattrick but his attempt went straight into Alzouma’s hands and a minute later his shot went wide.

However, his persistence saw him complete a hattrick in the 92nd minute after Okoro sent him a through ball that Chikatara sent past Alzouma to earn the man of the match accolade, becoming only the second player to score a hattrick at Chan since the inaugural edition in 2009.

Zambia’s Given Singuluma scored the first Chan hattrick against Ivory Coast at the 2009 edition.

Nigeria top Group C with three points ahead of Guinea and Tunisia who earlier settled for a 2-2 draw at the same venue.

Nigeria face Tunisia on January 22 at 3pm before Niger take on Guinea.

Bwalya - Katongo can get back to senior team

by Andrew Oryada
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Kalusha Bwalya, has said veteran players Christopher Katongo and Isaac Chansa have doors open to return to the senior national team.

Speaking to Africanfootball.com in an interview in Rwanda where the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) are taking place, Bwalya said that the door has never been shut for any player so long as he can perform and earn the call.

Katongo will captain the Chipolopolo team at the tournament where they are pooled alongside Uganda, Mali and Zimbabwe.

Katongo and Chansa were part of the Zambia team that won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

The Zambia FA boss said the duo have a lot to offer to the national team at the CHAN event and their experience will be very key.

“I wish them the best tournament as we use these games to prepare for the 2017 Afcon qualifiers,” added Bwalya.

However many Zambians in the past have voiced their concerns that Katongo’s time in the national team ended and he cannot cut the grade now.

Bwalya’s comments will come as a shock to them.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick

Top NFF officials led by president Amaju Pinnick have tasked the Super Eagles to get off to a winning start in their opening match against Niger on their way to winning the 2016 CHAN.

The powerful delegation included sports minister Solomon Dalung, Pinnick, vice-presidents Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko as well as reappointed NFF technical committee chairman Chris Green.

This further underlined the country’s determination to improve on a third-place finish two years ago in South Africa.

The NFF boss addressed the squad at their Hill View Hotel in Kigali, assuring the team that all their allowances and bonuses are guaranteed and all they had to do now was to go all the way in Rwanda.
