juman:[b]People like you will never believe probably because you do not know much about the institutional decay of the zoo we find ourselves in. This is not the first time this is happening. Same thing happened in Ugba, Logo Local gov. of Benue State where the former governor hails from. No body ever believed that the Fulani Militia will be given a breathing space in that part of the land but it happened. The news about these happenings do not always get captured by most of the national dailies because of the politics in our country. The then governor was fund of boasting on air that the state was the most peaceful in the north and so could go any mile by ensuring, such news do not spread. Please open your eyes and expect more from this joke called Nigeria. I hope you will not be surprised if I reveal to you that the Nigerian Army from the 72 Barracks in North Bank, Makurdi during the last administration were hired severally to help the Fulani Militia fight the local farmers who also armed themselves well to protect their communities. The media has not helped the matter either, let alone the traditional rulers in the affected regions. PMB's colleagues for sure played a fast one on us. The damage caused by the Fulani Militia is more than what the media reports. I can still recall vividly during the last administration, when Governor Torwua Gabriel Suswam was the governor of Benue State. The Ityo Shin (Tiv people mostly from the Benue Zone 'B' Senatorial District) people were killed daily, but the media both at the state and national levels kept mute over it. At a point I began to wonder why the stakeholders concerned kept quite for a long time. It got to a point that the Fulani Herds' men carried out coordinated attacks within the state capital just few metres behind the Mobile Police Barracks without any resistance. The Mobile Police Officers where always the first to evacuate their family members away from the Barracks, leaving the helpless community members at the expense of the wicked and heartless Terrorists. The Fulani Militia or Terrorist or Jihadist are still occupying majority of communities they attacked in different Senatorial District in the State, particularly, the Ityo Shin Communities. The helpless farmers have run for the safety of their lives and have left their farm lands to the Fulani Terrorists who know see it as their birth right and graze on these lands. They are so armed and can attack any body who try to resist their ownership of the land. Most people who were affected by these crisis are afraid of returning to their communities since their enemies have hijacked the land. It is therefore, a slap on the faces of the entire Tiv populace for this kind of shame to continue and for Buhari or the sympathizers of his focus less administration to order for inquiry into the wicked activities of Terrorist from the North instead of ordering the Military to go after them for outright attack. Secondly, the so called inquiry focuses only on the Agatu crisis not minding the other attacks on most of the Tiv Communities that have been going on silently. What about the majority of Tiv Territories held hostage by his brothers the Fulani Terrorist? What is he saying about it. These useless creations are so heartless such that even within the Makurdi Metropolis Farmers can not cultivate their crops without the fear of been the Fulani Herds' Men. Almost half of my rice farm situated at the Lower Benue River Basin located after Agboo Village was eaten up by their cattle. Buhari is been economical with the truth. Majority of these cow boys do not own these cattle. They are owned by the Emirs, Rtd Major Generals, former and serving governors, top Politicians and others, mostly in the North. I sense they are the ones behind all these attacks. The Fulani Herd's men move about freely with sophisticated arms without any body asking questions about their arms. What is Buhari or his sympathizers saying about it. Recently, the Benue State Gov. Dr. Samuel Ortom declared amnesty across the state just to take collect the local arms which most helpless communities use to protect their people. While some sources claimed that hundreds have been killed, a member of the state House of Assembly representing the affected Agatu Constituency, Sule Audu who spoke with The Guardian on phone refused to give a specific death toll. But he noted that the number of people killed could not be quantified for now as “there were bodies almost everywhere and many were yet to be identified and recovered.’’ He said a most disturbing aspect of the killings was that a helicopter which had taken off from neighbouring Nasarawa State was seen hovering over the area. “As I am speaking to you now, a large number of the attackers are still crossing over to Agatu. A source in Nasarawa State just told me that they are being transported on motorcycles to Loco from where they cross over to Agatu,” Sule said. He said he reported the matter to the police and was assured that security agents had been sent to the area to quell the crisis. He also disclosed that a delegation of Agatu elders met with the state governor, Samuel Ortom in order to find a lasting solution to the incessant crisis. A former councillor in Agatu Local Council told The Guardian late yesterday afternoon on phone that fighting was still going on in Ayila, a situation he said would swell the death toll. A resident of the area said that the attacks had frightened residents, especially of the local council headquarters in Obagaji where hundreds of survivors from the villages under attack were already taking refuge. Meanwhile, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has condemned the killings in the Agatu communities. The party has therefore called on the Federal and Nasarawa State governments to intervene by doing everything possible to end the killing of innocent men, women and children. The APC in a statement signed by its director of publicity, John Ikwulono, a copy of which was made available to The Guardian yesterday expressed shock at the sophistication of the attackers who it said used a helicopter to supply food, arms and ammunition to the rampaging militiamen. According to the statement: “The Fulani herdsmen and militia who were seen yesterday with a helicopter hovering around Agatu, set ablaze four communities including Akwu, Adagbo, Ayilla, Ogboju in addition to Okokolo and Abugbe which had been razed earlier. This act of violence is barbaric, highly condemnable, heartless and uncalled for. Stressing that the crisis was detrimental, not just to Benue State but Nigeria as a whole, the party called on neighbouring Nasarawa State and the Federal Governments to join hands with the Benue State government to arrest the situation once and for all. Several efforts to confirm the development from the state police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police Moses Yamu failed, though the Commissioner of Police, Paul Yakadi had confirmed the clashes and the deployment of police and military personnel in the area to stop the killings. Giving a background of the lingering crisis, the Save Agatu Project, in a recent statement says Agatu is one of the nine local councils in Benue South Senatorial District made up of 22 large clans who are predominantly farmers, producing yams, cassava, beans and other crops in large quantities. The statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the group Nats Onoja Agbo said: “For many years, Fulani pastoralists lived in some Agatu villages. Although the Fulani made their homes in the bush, contacts between them and the Agatu were without rancour, at least until 2013 when the Fulani started a series of armed attacks on many Agatu villages. The first attack occurred at Okokolo and soon spread to Okpagabi, Edumogbo and Egwuma. The attackers often came across River Benue from Nasarawa State where they were said to have camps.” He also lamented other invasions of Agatu through Bagana in Kogi State. Using the Bagama route, they attacked Okpanchenyi, Onicha K Oladukwu, Usha and Oweto. “In all these attacks, several people were killed in the affected villages. It was at that stage that the federal authorities sent some troops to Agatu. The fear, however, was that being based in Obagaji, the headquarter of Agatu Local Government, the security men could not restrain the rampaging Fulani attackers. That fear was proved right two weeks ago when Fulani warriors once more descended on Okokolo village, just a few kilometers from Obagaji. The village was sacked and with no form of defence, the survivors migrated to neighbouring villages, including Ugboju-Achega and Odugbeho. By yesterday, February 23, 2015, Fulani attackers pushed their luck further by sacking Akwu and Aila villages. At the rate they are going, it is just a matter of time before Obagaji would fall into the hands of the Fulani attackers. Like in the previous attacks, many men, women and children are being killed by the attackers without any form of provocation. Houses, farm produce and other property worth several millions of naira are being burnt or destroyed by the attackers. ‘‘We are appealing to the Federal Government and international community to step into this matter and stop the genocide being perpetrated against the people of Agatu. As citizens of our great country, Nigeria, the people deserve the protection of the government of Nigeria. The Federal Government should send enough military personnel to protect the people of Agatu against these attackers. We also call on the governments of Nasarawa and Benue States to step up security in the border areas. Pidggin: You will not understand. If you continue with this mentality then, you still have along way to go. Open your eyes now and criticize the ruling government constructively before it sinks. The truth is that, it is not always about Buhari. I love him personally. I also know that if majority of APC members or leaders share the same burden he has, we may be better off, but as it is now, most them are just hiding under the canopy of his goodwill to frustrate him and many helpless Nigerians. Amiano:[b] On point. The best way to deal with this kind of issue would have been to identify the immediate and remote causes of APC's lose to PDP in the just concluded Benue South Senatorial rerun. I for one never expected Hon. Onjeh to defeat Senator David Mark. David Mark is a Political figure not just in Benue State but the entire nation who has a goodwill that is much adored by his people. He has helped the Idoma people to have a voice and contend with the political forces within the local Benue political circle. It would have been politically unwise and miscalculations on the part of the Idoma nation to vote for Onjeh instead of Sen. David Mark who made sure that the Idoma people are got juicy federal jobs at the expense of the dominant Tiv nation. What has and an Onjeh do for the Idoma people, if we may ask? Secondly, the ruling party APC in its usual political propaganda thought it was going to garner enough votes by mere empty propaganda and fake promises and lies which they are known for. How do you expect people to vote for your candidate when civil servants are owed backlog of salaries and arrears for several months, since the inception of the APC led government. Thirdly or relatedly, the Benue people have not forgiven the APC led government for how it handled the 'bailout' funds meant to clear all outstanding salary arrears of workers. They therefore, thought it wise to hit back at the failed government by voting for the now opposition party. It is time the ruling party understands that propaganda can't keep them in power beyond 2019. The APC government must wake up from its slumber. This is just a warning to the party leadership in the state. The may see more disgrace by the time local government elections are conducted. Most electorates will not vote for the ruling party.
