Leicester City pull out of deal to sign CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa due to Russian club's £20m-plus asking price Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri is keen to add a striker to his squad The Foxes had two bids for CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa rejected Dwight Gayle and Loic Remy remain transfer targets for Leicester City By Laurie Whitwell for MailOnline Leicester’s pursuit of Ahmed Musa will likely have to wait until the summer, with both CSKA Moscow and the Nigeria striker’s camp insisting he will stay in Russia. The 23-year was a primary target for Ranieri but CSKA’s insistence on a £20million-plus move has ground this one to a halt. CSKA Moscow had already rejected two bids for Nigeria international Musa from the Premier League leaders as they looked to bolster their strikeforce with Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa their current options in attack. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/02/01/18/30C9721200000578-0-image-a-1_1454349620636.jpg CSK Moscow striker Ahmed Musa was a transfer target for Premier League leaders Leicester City https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/02/01/18/30C99B6A00000578-0-image-a-9_1454349706682.jpg The Foxes where keen to sign the 23-year-old but were put off by CSKA's Insistence by a 20 million Euros Plus deal Leicester boss Ranieri has said that he was confident of signing a striker, but also expressed calm at progressing with the three forwards in his squad. Dwight Gayle and Loic Remy remain options for the King Power Stadium outfit to explore. Gayle fits the profile Ranieri is looking for and Crystal Palace are open to doing business after bringing Emmanuel Adebayor to Selhurst Park. Remy will come into the reckoning if both those deals fail to materialise. His proven record is counter-balanced by the wages he would require, which would break Leicester’s salary structure and team harmony is a factor. Meanwhile, the Foxes' Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler could still move on loan to get game time ahead of Euro 2016. Ighalo irreplaceable – Team mate Watford midfielder Adlene Guedioura has labeled Nigeria international Odion Ighalo ‘irreplaceable’ after the netted the winner for Watford in a FA Cup fourth round game. The Nigeria international now has 15 goals and three assists this season, giving him a key role in 62 per cent of his team’s 29 goals. “I think the statistics speak for themselves,” said Guedioura, who helped dump former club Forest out of the cup. “He only came on for a few minutes and scored. He is an amazing player. He is a top, top player for the Premier League – not just for our team. “It is really important he is staying. If you remove Ighalo it is 60 or 70 per cent fewer goals. I want him to finish the season with a lot more goals and why not be the top scorer in the league?” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/ighalo-irreplaceable-team-mate/ |
I won’t quit –Oliseh https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Sunday-Oliseh.jpg Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh Pius Ayinor Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has declared that he won’t quit his position despite speculations that the former Nigeria was on his way out of the team. Oliseh, who spoke online with The PUNCH on Monday, denied that he had indicated to the Nigeria Football Federation his desire to move on. “I am not quitting,” Oliseh said. The coach and his players of the home-based Eagles have come under criticism after failing to qualify from the group stages of the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. The former Eagles captain has stoutly defended their performance in the East African country as he insists that a lot of off-field issues affected them. Some European coaches have already been linked with the Eagles’ job, which Oliseh has yet to declare vacant. An associate of the Eagles coach, who later spoke with our correspondent on Monday said even though Oliseh would remain on his post, a lot of things have to be discussed and changed for the Eagles to make any meaningful impact in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He said, “A lot of things have to change and these are what will be ironed out before another competition starts. The money crisis was a huge one. The players were doing well at the start but their attitude and form dipped when it became very evident that they would not get their cash until after the tournament. “But if the NFF didn’t have the cash, they could have supported the team in many other ways. They were left alone in a very small two-star hotel in Rwanda. Most of the times the players could not eat what was served by the hotel and Oliseh had to supplement with cash to enable the players eat outside. The coach also assisted many who could not really get quality boot and this was a drain to his pocket. “In the Abuja camp, there was little or no visit from the NFF team. When you owe players, you should stay close enough to make them believe that they will truly get their money later.” Last week Oliseh told The PUNCH that the players based abroad were continuously calling him to be sure of the finances of the team. Our correspondent confirmed that the players have not been paid their allowances for the match they played against Swaziland in November. There’s fear that they may become reluctant to show for the March qualifier against Egypt. http://www.punchng.com/i-wont-quit-oliseh/ |
NFF Threaten To Suspend, Demote Oliseh Over CHAN Utterances https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/oliseh-sunday.jpg?w=800 By Richard Jideaka, Abuja: Irked by the failure of the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Nations Championship, the Nigeria Football Federation may suspend or demote head coach Sunday Oliseh over utterances considered as an affront by his employers. Completesportsnigeria.com gathered that officials of the federation are annoyed by Oliseh’s buck passing and comments after the Super Eagles crashed out of CHAN in Rwanda in the first round. Oliseh blamed lack of motivation for Eagles’ early exit from CHAN claiming that he fed the team with his money to the tune of $4000 at their training camp in Pretoria, South Africa. Fuming with rage, an executive committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation who requested anonymity revealed that the federation has been keeping records of Oliseh’s comments on radio and print media, and will act at the appropriate time. “Oliseh should have taken responsibility for the Eagles crash and move on with preparations for the all-important AFCON qualifiers against Egypt, but he chose to make the NFF the scape goat with his comments that his players were not motivated,” the NFF official said. “His behaviour after the exit of the Eagles from CHAN is an infringement on the code of conduct for national teams and he cannot claim ignorance of this because he was given a copy of the COC when took the job as head coach of the Super Eagles. “We are waiting for his technical report and reply to the query before he faces the technical committee who will recommend what action to be taken against him. “The truth be said, Oliseh has yet to show signs that he is capable of taking the Eagles to the expected heights. We might ask him to work under a technical adviser or resign if he cannot but we can’t risk leaving him to experiment with our dear Super Eagles.” Read more at http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/oliseh-faces-suspension-demotion-over-chan-utterances/#Sob0VgUL2zplW0W4.99 |

Sullivan and club secretary Andrew Pincher worked hard to get the deal done after having to negotiate with both Fenerbahce and Al-Ain where Emenike has been on loan in the United Arab Emirates this season. “Our manager knows him from Turkey & Russia and says he is a very good player. He is very fast and you can never have enough goals or pace in any team. “It took two weeks of tortuous negotiations and hard work by myself and our club secretary Andrew Pincher to get the player to the club. It was one of the most difficult deals we have ever done as we were dealing with two clubs not one. “I would publicly like to thank Andrew, as he really is an unsung hero of the club, for all his hard work on this transfer, all the other transfers we have done in the last few years and the dozens we tried to do and failed with.” Emenike arrived at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday and is now hoping to be a big success in the Premier League this season. http://africanfootball.com/news/607455/West-Ham-hope-Emenike-brings-goals |

Emenike further said he is thrilled to fulfill his long-time dream of playing in the EPL after lots of speculations linking him to clubs in the league in the past. "Something bigger is expected from me, both from my fans, West Ham fans and English football fans as a whole, I am aware of the big responsibility before the move and I will be glad to make great impact in the league,” the 28-year-old Emenike told AfricanFootball.com “As for me, I think this is the best time for me to play in the EPL, there has been lots of speculations linking me to a possible move to England in the last four years but here I am now. "It is a thrilling feeling, a fulfilled dream and I am ready to prove my commitment and confidence on the pitch.” He added: “I believe this is God’s time for me to play in England, so I have no regret over the clubs I had signed and played for in the past. "I always believe I still have something great in me to prove I am still a better player for a respectable and great club like West Ham. “I have had EPL links since I was in Russia, my brothers got calls from some people over a link to a top club in London to be precise, but I wasn’t ready then because I was then learning and trying to improve my game. “I know the challenges in scoring against some good defences in England, it’s something you have to quickly adapt and make instant impact. “I want to justify my move and hope to light the league with goals.” By Olusola Alao http://africanfootball.com/news/607798/Emenike-My-goals-will-count-in-EPL |

Iheanacho was magnificent on Saturday as he powered home a hat-trick in City’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa in a fourth round game in the FA Cup. Aguero was an unused substitute at Villa Park on Saturday and watched as the Nigerian starlet netted on four, 24 and 74 minutes before supplying Raheem Sterling with an assist for City’s fourth on 76 minutes. “I am happy to play together with Sergio and hope I can do it for many years more at City,” Iheanacho said. He added that he will not “be kicking” the Argentine forward out of the club following his impressive display at Villa Park. “I won't say I will be kicking him out of the team. He is a great player, so I don't think that will happen. “I won't be kicking Sergio Aguero out of the team just yet. “I am happy to play together with Sergio and hope I can do it for many more years at City.” Iheanacho did not produce any outlandish celebrations after any of his three strikes and he took the time to explain why. “I don't celebrate too much because I think you have to focus on the game, to concentrate and work hard so you can get more goals in the game,” he said. Dalung: No Pressure On Oliseh To Win CHAN Trophy https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/he3-2.jpg By David Meshioye and Adeboye Amosu in Kigali: Minister of sports Solomon Dalung has said that the sports ministry will not pressure coach Sunday Oliseh to win the African Nations Championship trophy at all costs. In a chat with Comple tesportsnigeria.com here in Kigali, Dalung played down the win at all costs syndrome that has characterized Nigeria’s participation in competitions in the past, but maintained that Nigeria’s bronze winning feat in South Africa can be surpassed if the team can remain focused and put in extra work in training He charged Oliseh to develop the Eagles into a team that can compete with top teams like Tunisia, Mali and Rwanda as Nigeria attempt to win CHAN for the first time. “We are not asking coach Sunday Oliseh to win CHAN at all costs but I feel the prospect of a first class student starts from his first result," Dalung said. “It will be great to see Oliseh win the trophy because it will go a long way to put him on the driving seat as Super Eagles manager.” Super Eagles gave a slice of what to expect from them after a massive rout of Mena of Niger by 4-1 with three goals coming from Chisom Chikatara and one from Osas Okoro. Nigeria face The Carthage Eagles on Friday after the North Africans were forced to a 2-2 draw in the Group opener on Monday. A win for the Home Eagles will see them qualify for the quarter-finals. www.completesportsnigeria.com/dalung-no-pressure-on-oliseh-to-win-chan-trophy/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |
CHAN: Eagles return to training, focus on Tunisia https://cdn.pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Nigerias-Home-Eagles-players-450x336.jpg Taiwo Adelu Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles returned to training Tuesday ahead of their second Group C clash against Tunisia on Friday in the ongoing Rwanda 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The match against the champions of the second edition of the competition in Sudan five years ago will hold at the same Stade Regional de Nyamirambo. The home-based Eagles started their campaign in the CHAN on a winning note as they walloped the Mena du Niger 4-1 in their first group match Monday evening in Kigali. Kolanut Boy, Chisom Chakatara’s hattrick and Osas Moses Okoro’s goals ensured that the Nigerian team secured three points from the match against Niger. Chief Coach Sunday Oliseh returned the team to training immediately after Monday’s match with a scheduled session at 3p.m. (local time) on Tuesday at Mumena Stadium, Nyamirambo. The twitter handle of the Super Eagles says the team are back in serious training for Tunisia who played 2-2 draw against Guniea in their match on Monday. To Coach Oliseh, a good start in the tournament does not mean they should not take other matches with seriousness. “It is better for us to get a good winning start in the tournament,” he said. The former Nigerian international told the players before Tuesday’s training that “we must keep our commitment and hardwork levels high for Tunisia.” Team Coordinator, Patrick Pascal said that after Monday’s victory over the Mena, attention immediately shifted to Tunisia as the team plan to have winning streaks to the next round of the competition. Already, Nigeria are leading Group C with three points, while Tunisia and Guinea who played 2-2, have a point each. Niger have no point for now. “The team are back in training as attention is now shifted to Tunisia who we believe are equally a good team,” Pascal said. Nigeria will play their third group match in Gisenyi against Guinea at the Rubavu Stadium on Tuesday, 26 January. www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/01/19/chan-eagles-return-to-training-focus-on-tunisia/ |
