Landing story

We booked our flight for 24th and a day before we went to cargo our food items and other sundry.

Day of departure: Hmmm, we all woke up early as the flight was in the afternoon. There were bags to pack as per family of three- 6 luggages, 3 hand luggages and 2 back packs. We loaded the car and off we went. The guys decided to get a fresher haircut on our way since we were very early. They went into the barber shop and by the time they were done it was past 9am. Alright time to go but everywhere in the estate was blocked. No movement. As in stand still .

Panic mode: TWO hours later we were still in the estate trying to navigate our way out. We got out of the car to start clearing traffic at the other end. Once we made it out a little I walked out the entrance of the estate and saw gridlock shocked. Oh my God! I had tried to check in online so many times that I lost count but it didn't work cry. We started thinking of different ways to get us out of the traffic. Using tricycle was out of it because no one was moving as in even bike and maruwa couldn't move.

My husband went to look for some hausa boys sitting around and called them to carry the luggages. About 8 of them put our bags on their heads grin and we were running out to the other side of the express road that was free of traffic. Time was fast running out and by God's grace we got a taxi that took us all to the airport in one trip. When we got there and saw that they were still checking people in, I couldn't help but praise God. Our bags were weighed and they were within the limit cheesy. Phew!!!

Flight: The first leg of the flight was okay. Meal was fine. Our super active toddler was bubbly all through and by the time we got to our first stop at Addis Ababa we were exhausted from all the activity since morning.

The Second leg of the flight was cool as the plane was bigger and I got to sleep a little, same as the last leg. We had a short stopover at Dublin to refuel and change cabin crew. Then they shared the customs declaration card and we filled and declared what we brought with us.

Landing: We landed in Toronto at 7.28am and moved to get cleared. The queue was not too long but one of the immigration officer was super slow and so the line moved slowly. By the time we were done, we ended up missing our connecting flight to Calgary. Next we went on get our baggage and isle was near empty and had stopped rotating. Left there and moved to customs to submit our declaration card and goods to follow list. The officer asked if there was meat and milk and informed us that powdered milk is prohibited. By the time we were done it was almost 12 noon. We went to air canada and the next flight was for 2.20pm. We took it and went to chill.

Our flight to Calgary was funny. We were super exhausted that we dozed off a little and had to run to catch our flight as we didn't get there on time ( or so we thought)
We got to the gate and asked to please get in front of the queue and the lady was nice to oblige us. After boarding, I started asking myself some rhetoric life questions undecided*insert deep thinking emoji* (given all the action film since yesterday) lol but we were super tired and slept the whole flight till we got into Calgary.

We got into Calgary in the evening say 7pm being its a 4 hour flight and also the flight didn't even leave on time and was about 30 mins late ( after all our marathon) rolls eyes*. At the airport while waiting for our taxi, we met a Nigerian man Seun who bought us all Tim Horton's hot chocolate, bagels and muffins at his expense. He was very welcoming. Thank you Seun. God bless you.

Took a taxi to our apartment we had made previously deposit for and slept off. Since we got in on a Friday we just went with the weekend flow. Account opening and health card registration done. The weather hasn't been too bad here. There was some sunshine yesterday in the midst of the cold lol.
After everything, it is so worth it!! I Thank God for everything cheesy cheesy

Canada will be blessed for us all and we shall eat the good of the land in Jesus Name. Amen. It will end in praise!

Thank you

Hello,

**Silent follower awaiting PPR

Please i need a bit of information. How do i get a TRV for my retired mum to enable her land with me or shortly after to ease settling down post PPR?
I am more worried about proof of ties to home country, lack of travel history and the fact that i am funding the trip- hoping that shouldnt be a problem.

Please if there is anyone who has had a parent over in short while after landing or alongside, i would really need your guidance.

@glitteringstar2....you referred to your mum in your landing gist, sorry to probe, was she on TRV?

Thanks alot

Is this in CAd or USd?

What about 50kg to 99kg

Akingsqueen:
Hi,
This is what I have.

Rates to Edmonton:
100kg - 399kg = 1250

400kg and above = 1150

The higher the cheaper
Advise on how u pack your things: 1. Bring your things in just a simple Ghana must go bag.....no special bag is required.
2. if you have Red oil, Honey, Iru put, them in a 10L keg separately or lesser keg or Bottle water as d case may be.
3. Ogi starch water should be drained fully and put it in a nylon bag or transparent zip nylon double it.
4.feel free to ask questions...... Am here to serve u better

To contact me for the guys number, send a mail to melankev17@yahoo.com.
I have been unable to reply to Nairaland PM requests.

BORING LANDING GIST

We arrived at the MMIA, Lagos by 11am for a Toronto bound flight via Cairo with departure time of 2.25pm on Sunday 25th November. We had five checked-in baggage and two hand luggage with extra back pack and handbag cos we are family of three (Two adults, one infant). All baggage were for clothes and shoes because we decided to cargo our food items (Two bags, 50kg in total) since paying for extra two baggage will set us back by 110k via Egypt airlines. Looking forward to receiving the food items by next week.

We got to the check-in desk and each of the baggage weighed between 23.6kg to 25.9kg. We didn’t reduce the weight as we were asked to settle them for our bags to pass. All in all, we paid 3.5k to pass the overweight checked-in baggage and cabin luggage. Because of our little baby, we requested for Bassinet and we were provided with one when we boarded. Meanwhile, almost 20 family members and friends followed us to the airport and after checking in, we went outside to take pictures and pray for the journey and new life in Maple land.

I declared all the cash (POF in Pounds sterling and $100 note) I have on me and I wasn’t questioned by any officer, everything went smoothly. When we got to the departure gate, we were told that our flight has not arrived from Egypt and we had to wait for some extra minutes. A flight meant to depart at 2.25pm departed at 3.10pm.

On board, we were served the first meal two hours after departure. We occupied two seats while the third seat was vacant, so we had space to put extra stuff and keep them away from the baby. We arrived Egypt after six hours and it was smooth. Had a stop over of 5 hours and we used that time to pray and relax. Neither free Wi-Fi nor good food was at the airport , we just sat there till it was time to board the Toronto bound flight.

We boarded the Toronto bound flight after passing through the security screening and the aircraft looks nice and clean. Our precious extension cable was collected from us. We were provided with a bassinet to put our baby after take-off but we didn't use it because our baby refuse to sleep in it. We just packed some stuff in it. First meal on board came and it was crap for me, had to just eat the meat and drink some juices. To be honest, the journey to Toronto was awesome (12 hours direct from Cairo) but the food was crap. Our baby didn’t allow my wife to rest because she continued suckling from an hungry mother. In all, we were served two times from Egypt to Canada which I believe was bad cos the distant was just too much. My greatest fear was when we were on Atlantic ocean for more than 4 hours, Canada journey is not easy. It requires prayer and patience you had before you got PPR.

We landed at exactly the scheduled time (7am on Monday), got to the first officer and we told her what we had on us. No dairy and meat. Proceeded to another office who asked us if we are landing today and we confirmed that. Collected our passport, COPR and address to send the PR card and asked us told to sit for a while. I was afraid with so many things going through my mind. At last, he called on us to sign our COPR and we heard the golden word, you are now a PERMANENT RESIDENT.

We proceeded to an immigration service desk where they provided us with info about new immigrants programs and went to Service Canada to get our SIN number. We had to wait for like 10 minutes to get it sorted. We were welcomed to Canada in each desk with lovely smile. We proceeded to get our bags waiting on the carousel. From there, we moved to Customs where we declared our goods accompanying and following. I quoted CAD $5000 as food items am expecting and I was asked to sign the necessary documents. We carried over CAD $10k, we declared everything to the last #500 I had with me. When the custom officer converted #500 to Canadian dollars, she said that’s less than two dollars. He now asked me to tell her what that can buy out of curiosity. I told her that can buy my breakfast from a canteen and I will still have balance in Nigeria. She was surprised and at the end, she welcomed us to Canada again and we proceeded to exit.

I was expecting a friend to come pick me up to my temporary host's house but because I couldn’t get Wi-Fi to connect with, had to borrow phone from a nice lady who without objection gave us her phone to call. She was so nice and even wanted to share her mobile hotspot with us but the connection keeps breaking. We eventually took a taxi home and charged $40.

We couldn’t do anything on first day other than to eat, relax and sleep. We will be going out on Tuesday to get SIM card only cos me and my wife already have good phones that will work anywhere in the world. We will also open our bank and start the job hunting.

I don’t have anywhere in mind to stay permanently for now, getting a job will dictate that. However, I will prefer the Prairie region and the West provinces.
To landed seniors, kindly provide me with what I need to know and do during this first week, it must end in PRAISE.

I am staying temporarily at Etobicoke for maximum of two weeks by God's grace.

Kindly manage my boring story unlike Einsteino, who will hold you spellbound with his gist.

There was really nothing much we cld do about the agent, since he claimed we had to give him additional money,we had to just pet him we didnt do gragra o,dat he shld not worry we wld give him, hubby sent him some money and then we sent someone to go and collect d items for us,they had to send the food items to me in abuja via abc as we had left lagos d next day he called. Two scenerios there,i think the guy is fraudulent because different kind of items have their different shipping cost, food and electonics are more expensive so he removed those things to reduce cost,in removing those items too,d weight of our Luggage wld drop so there was no way it cld have amounted to d cost he was calling or he removed those items to hold us down to make sure he got his balance or we loss them dat was y we decided to just manage him till we got our items back cos they cost more dan dat 90k hia!!!my xbox1 noo with kenetic for dat matter, nooo!!!
So pls ask for gud recommendation for a credible agent before u ship,if he was gud i wld have given his contact on dis forum but...

Wow! That's too bad of him.
Thank God you were able to salvage the situation.
Thanks for the advice

Hello,

Do you have CIC's number? How about placing a call to CIC and wait to speak with an agent regarding this issue as well...

Hi Everyone,

Fantastic work you guys are doing here. I have a question:

I received the PPR email yesterday but in the email they told me to send my documents to Ottawa for COPR within 30 days rather than accra. I am currently in Nigeria and though i’ve sent emails to Ottawa for them to give me instructions and appendix A to submit to a VAC close to me, I haven’t gotten a response yet. Thus, i’m wondering-can I send my passport and documents via fedex to Ottawa for COPR and use my friend’s mailing address in Canada? They said they don’t send back passports to addresses outside North America. Also has anyone had this experience and what did you do?
Many thanks

Hi,

You can apply for express entry using your NYSC experience or any other experience you had in Nigeria (atleast one year with job reference in ircc required format) and your Nigerian/Canadian qualifications. You will have to write IELTS or CELPIP. Use the CRS tool on IRCC website to calculate your score and apply for your family as FSW inland.

Another option will be to wait and get a job to have Canadian experience for one year then apply as CEC using your job reference letter and other requirements.

If your wife is currently working in Canada with her visa, she may qualify for one of the PR visas streams. Use the CRS tool to calculate her score.

All the best

Hello Guys,

I'm currently a Post-Grad student in British Columbia, I was able to successfully bring my wife and daughter here..

my wife has a SOWP and my daughter has a visitors' visa since shes' just 2 years old.

My program ends next year and it would be the end of 3 years post graduate study for me in Canada.

My question is.. How do I go about converting my self, wife and daughter to PR holders... I know I should be getting a three years PGWP after my program ends.. Just looking for advice from someone that's been through this.

Merci!
