Africa The Only Place Sane Black Men Still Retain Their Dignity

Many of us can no longer live in one country after toiling all our life. There is a friend that returned home after his sojourn abroad. As soon as his plane landed on African soil, he kissed the ground and exclaimed: Thank God Africa, where Black men are men. After clearing Immigration and Custom, we asked him why he fell on his face when he landed. He was not in a rescue mission from Libya, a Muslim praying or the Pope kissing Airport tarmac.

Mind you, his first cultural shock outside Africa was when he saw a Black man carrying a sign in a demonstration that read: I Am A Man! On his return back home, he swelled up, lifting up his shoulder in a pompous manner. Our friend claimed he has just regained his dignity as a proud African. Our first thoughts could have been that he got into trouble with the law, his wife or children abroad. Actually, he was too careful and respectable to put himself into such situations. But he saw too many Blacks in such trouble, he swore that it would never happen to him.

So why would he display such gratitude on landing in Africa? The answers and the emotional tolls he repressed for many years would be told later in a better atmosphere and a lighter mood. Apparently, he left Africa in the good old days and invested back home to enjoy some level of comfort on his return. During his time abroad, he studied, worked as a professional in the day and supplemented his savings with any second job he could get, so that his wife and children could live reasonably well.

Despite his success, he never got the respect he thought he deserved if he had made it in Africa. The environment was so hostile to Black men, no matter how successful they are, the level of reward for their hard work is lower in the Western world than those accorded to whites and Asians. Indeed, anyone can climb on Black men that championed Civil Rights which opened the way to success for others. The only sanctuary is at home with a lovely wife and children. Even then, if anything goes wrong at home, a Black man is guilty until proven innocent.

Africans or Blacks are inductively programmed, especially the ill-informed to disrespect one another and be courteous to others first when in doubt. So, you find Black on Black crimes worse in Black neighborhoods, tribal turfs or some slight misunderstanding in African/Black homes getting out of hand. Indeed, if Police are called, a Black man could be shot before the facts are known. You must have heard about the Black Talk in the families of Africans, when confronted by Police. Even if he needed protection and had called the Police!

It is the messages passed on to Black children when the most successful Africans like the late former Secretary of State General Colin Powell and former President Obama, shared experiences they had with Police and on the job. Yet, there are Africans that claim they have never experienced discrimination in their lives abroad. They live in self created bubbles unknown to their relatives and friends. Let the fools fool other fools.

In addition, many Africans claim they had worse experiences with Police in Africa. We have to be clear and not justify Police brutality in and outside Africa. The point here is that disrespect, humiliation and discrimination are separate from Police brutality outside Africa to Black men. Hardly would a depraved Police in Africa pick on you or even shoot you dead execution class for no other reason, other than the color of your skin.

What we have in African countries is violence we all dread during political struggles, campaigns for power and vicious crime bred by abject poverty. It can be brutal when Police are used against civilians. In many cases, armed gangs would fight the Police back. Some of the African Police are so scared, they refuse to wear uniforms in volatile areas for fear of being attacked. It means the Police have been used beyond their lawful duties of law and order. We cannot imagine one or two African Policemen executing an innocent man in broad daylight with a gun and walking away scot-free without being mobbed.

Those of us that have read the history of “Black Wall Street''. how Symbionese Liberation Army were bombed out or seen what happened to Black men when they dared organize revolts against Police outside Africa, we know better. So we have to be careful in our consideration when comparing slights and outrageous crimes against Blacks/Africans at home and in the Diaspora. This does not prevent our Youths from taking the deadly risks through desert and sea to their "dream" countries since they lack opportunities at home.

The way most of the countries treat innocent Africans at the point of entry is so appalling, many of us dread going out just as others endure the shabby treatment at overseas airports as the price we pay for the criminals denigrating us outside. Mind you, that there are worse non-Africans criminals traveling unhindered around the world is not a justification. Many whites are more concerned about angry Black men than angry white men as a couple of legislators openly stated after the insurrection at the Capitol Hill in the United States.

In spite of all these, there is an African brain drain of professionals who think they are welcomed with the opportunity they never had at home. Dig deeper, it boils down to how much you are paid compared to African currencies. Foreign workers hardly learn that they will never get paid for their worth or as their coworkers. Foreign employers know devalued African money does not buy much at home and very little abroad. Whatever they pay, tickles you. Buying a plane ticket at home costs a fortune to convert. A fortune that could start some small businesses, only in Africa. If duly successful at home, taking a business or holiday trip abroad is refreshing.

Nevertheless, Africans are deemed the richest Blacks in America! Please bear with me. One of the reasons successful Africans become disillusioned abroad is that their success does not give them basic respect accorded to others. Even more devastating, is that Africans have to work two or three jobs to make the same or more money than their counterparts. They will never work that hard at home. Some of them die early hustling like a lion hunter to provide for their families and extended relatives at home. There is the African proverb that if a hunter thinks about what he has to go through to bring meat home, he would not share it with anyone.

The bottom line is, until African Youths tackle the demons in their individual countries and make them productive, Blacks, no matter where they are in the world will never be respected. It is insane that those in charge of African productivity are the same ones jetting out at will, using incomes they cannot earn fairly to buy exalted underused shelters abroad where they are disdained and least respected. If those they saw working hard to achieve abroad cannot earn the dignity they deserve, what makes money launderers think they can be respected anywhere?

But there is a greater fear of letting a good lady go because of lesser fear. Have you ever heard Nigerians say: fear women?

A good lady is hard to find these days in Nigeria. Introduction, Wedding or Marriage is not everyday. Let her know your fear so that you do not have to travel much.

Weigh your fears and ignore lesser fear to marry a good woman.

PUTIN's GOAL: INVADE WESTERN DEMOCRACY & RESTORE RUSSIAN EMPIRE

The world was warned about the coming of Putin's reign to restore the Russian Empire beyond the old Soviet Union. Though Russia is not as wealthy as the Western countries, Putin appealed to some Western greedy instincts by financing their business, giving and promising generous contracts inside Russia. While African countries do worse for greener pastures abroad, like Ajaokuta Steel, Putin does this to capture Western Democracy for the Russian Empire.

All evidence pointing to the breaking of Western alliances were ignored, suppressed and used to elect governments hostile to the building base of Western Democracy: suppression of votes and election of parties with extremist minority votes. Historians and other experts that warned and knew of the consequences were called elitists that were out of touch with the common and working class. Autocracy in any country in the West or East, by any form, must be exposed.

Consequently, emotional issues were capitalized to exploit the fears of the masses and vote against their own interests. Russia watched as their investment to destroy the European Union through Brexit and the election of the extreme wing of conservatives in the United States bore fruit. Indeed, Russia was kicked out of G-8 for their overbearing and authoritative tendencies in neighboring countries.

Yet, the USA almost single handedly wanted Russia readmitted. Germany and other members of G-7 stood against it. The famous picture where leaders of the European Union sat down the President of the United States to educate and put him in his place, demonstrated more resolve than ideology. After losing the Presidential Election in the United States, some still support Putin over their own President. Tolerance in a democracy that could be treason in Russia.

Russia underestimated the people of the United States, hoping more American soldiers would be withdrawn from Europe to reclaim Ukraine without objections. He never anticipated Biden would be elected the President. So he proceeded to reclaim Ukraine as planned under the hands-off policy of the previous American Administration. A complete miscalculation that United NATO and European Union than ever, reminding them of their creation in the first place.

When the Truckers invaded the seat of Power in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, to protest the vaccine mandate, the world was surprised. Ninety percent of Canadian truckers were immunized against COVID-19 and the fringe group did not have the support of the Union or most Canadians. Yet, they claimed their protests were against the immunization mandate, and blocked the busiest bridge between Canada and the United States threatening a vital economic lifeline. Not in Canada, eh?

They turned COVID-19 mandate into a political driving force to win elections as in the United States. More bullies from Western countries imitated the Canadian protests. Credit must be accorded to the people of goodwill in Canada that refused to be overwhelmed by these loud bullies. How can anyone expect any country so close to the United States, the most powerful country in the world, not be influenced by the Insurrection at Capitol Hill on January 6 that still divides them?

It turned out the Canadian protests were funded by big political donors from the United States. The same Rebels without a Cause, except to overturn Western Democracy anyway they can; including help from Putin. They are so powerful, they elected President in the United States and Prime Minister in Britain. Russia accomplished both by supporting Brexit in the United Kingdom that shook the European Union. The United States had threatened financial suspension and troop withdrawal from NATO countries.

Time is changing but conservatives hold on to the good old days of subjugation of the minorities and poor countries to make themselves richer. It is as unproductive in the United States, Russia, China as in any other country. You could have heard but not understood the echo of Russia when the former President of the United States wondered out loud that the USA had invaded other countries just like Russia. It is not a big deal to them but competition between world powers dominating weaker nations. China also joined them.

We must not forget that China became a member of the Rich Countries Club and got admitted into the World Trade Organization to spite Russia. Indeed, it was Indira Gandhi the late Prime Minister of India that first cried out that developing countries are not looking for Aids but want equal trading partners. China got wealthy in the Rich Countries Club. The bottom line is, China is not going to jeopardize all their economic gains from Western Democracy just for Russia.

Russia has miscalculated on how much the former United States Administration could have done for them. The danger for Russia's ambition to recapture the old Empire against economic sanctions from Western countries may increase dependency on China. It is not going to be free for Russia. China will demand it's pound of flesh back. If Russia does not want to rekindle the old adversarial relationship with China, it must pay.

There are two ways for the richest countries to get wealthy. 1. Exploit the serfs in Europe or Africa's rich resources by using unfair dealings and disadvantageous relationships. 2. By exclusive trade within the World Trade Organization, the Rich Countries Club. They trade with one another on a fair and equal basis while developing countries are relegated to suppliers of raw materials where finished goods prices are dictated and dumped.

Powerful countries' traditional way of getting rich is through exploitation of Africa. China has joined the rich countries exploiting the raw materials of Africa in return for finished goods and services. Even some African countries are renegotiating the terms of their agreement with their Western trading partners because China gives them a better deal. Therefore, Russian reliance on China may not be sustainable.

Putin recklessly pushes ahead as if he had Trump in the second term. It has backfired on him, if anything, NATO is united than ever. There are more Western troops around Russia today than Putin wanted. They have alarmed other countries formerly in the Soviet Union and now in NATO like the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, three members of the former Warsaw Pact: Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia, the seventh, Slovenia. Even Non-aligned countries such as Finland, Sweden and Switzerland may now join NATO.

Nevertheless, this reputation of patriotism with little tolerance for corruption brought him back from two election defeats to being elected civilian President that won a reelection. It became clear that we trusted him to lead a great country despite all its faults and the Civil War as if he ever had allegiance to the whole Country. Even worse he left the Environmental Degradation where he comes from in Niger Delta worse than he met it. He would rather boast about how many Nigerians he made billionaires.

Therefore, Buhari had an easy pass to power in view of Jonathan's failure. The unfortunate point is that a potential Regional Power always had to contend with the lesser of all evils. No country can grow that way and Nigeria remains stunted. This is a country that has talents, more educated citizens and earned more foreign income than anywhere on the Continent. But competent people did not get the opportunity to serve, only cronies that enhanced corruption were invited to lead crucial productive sectors.

The number of brains and talents Nigeria has directly on the Equator under the Sun should have made the Country a leader in the production and export of Solar Power. We are still struggling to build and discover yesterday's fuel for our future needs. It is not only shameful but embarrassing that a country that should have been a regional power yesterday is still running after past technology that has been discredited for its contribution to global warming with no future for a better world climate. While International Oil companies still waste and flare gas. If gas production cannot be achieved without Oil companies, individual institutions can do Solar.

However, when it comes to terrorism, fraud and drugs, the world can point to specific regions in Nigeria. Buhari, who had pointed out what was wrong in Nigeria and even jailed Nigerians in violations of regulated foreign currencies, now champions waste of foreign income on personal care and travels. He has more planes at his pleasure than the Country's epileptic Airline. The Country's medical services and schools are in shambles while he and his cronies jet outside for medical treatments and graduation of their children. Buhari, why are you leading any government?

We do not need to speculate or accept the patriotic reasons Buhari and Idiagbon gave for overthrowing Shagari. Many writers stated their opinions on Buhari's junta motivation, some claimed he beat others to it. Buhari changed Shagari Civilian Rule to Military Rule. He was so blindly ambitious like most fanatics with desire but lack direction, clarity, raw and unlettered. Another civilian overthrow by the Military before him was: "invited" by the Acting President Nwafor Orizu; until he was contradicted by his colleagues.

Richard Akinjide and others made it clear, they did not invite the Military, it was a coup. We have to reflect on that history in view of 20/20 insight and Buhari's impunity today. Compared to the 1st coming of Rawlings in Ghana that queried the audacity of the Military to overthrow Kwame Nkrumah Civilian Government. Though the motive of Rawlings and his Opponents were heavily contested, it never resulted into civil war as we witnessed in Nigeria.

But we should have held on to our suspicion and those expressing doubts when Buhari went to Ibadan to question Lam Adesina, the Governor about the treatment of Hausa/Fulani, threatening violence. It certainly was not the behavior of a patriot but of an ethnic champion.

BLIND AMBITION OF GEN. BUHARI OVERTHREW PREZ SHAGARI

Nigeria has not recovered from any coup d'etat. Buhari could have been the best President Nigeria hardly had until he came back as a civilian President to demonstrate how clueless he is. One factor Buhari had on his side then, was patriotism. A fake leader of a whole nation is worse than a fake doctor or lawyer on an individual basis.

Nigerians refused to blame themselves for abdication of responsibility for governance to terrorists, bandits, looters and fraudsters. When Funho Williams was killed, we wondered why a man of such integrity would even venture into politics. It is the attitude that turns politics to the game of do or die. It got worse, the upper class in Nigeria today are militricians, money launderers, ritualists and drug pushers.

The hooligans and thugs that used to protect and fight for politicians realized that they could become Chief Security Officers, Governors and Ministers. It did not make any sense to lose your life fighting for someone when they could assume their positions.

They all bow to the even least educated; callings of Voodoo, Pastors and Imams of fortune. Those wondering how leadership lost integrity, ran away from home expecting those they left in charge of the country to turn it into El Dorado. If we think we could have done better, why didn't we fight it out with those we thought should not even govern or become the head of dog catchers or maja maja?

After all, there was a time Africans could not wait to finish their education abroad before rushing home. If you do not want to kill your waiting mother. There were people waiting after four years to ask why you were not back home. It was the days Mbadiwe called those in political circles: men of "timber and calibre".

Every African must look into the mirror and ask if they see themselves in this mirror. Think about the good exemplary character you can build for your family, village and country that passes on and how it could multiply after you are gone. It may be appreciated, ignored or wasted but in your own way, you do the best and leave the rest. Better still, make the world a better place than you met it.

Vanity upon vanity has taken another meaning in greedy cultures. They rationalize it as caring and enjoying what they can get at that moment, no matter how the wealth is obtained. They do not want to accept that immediate gratification can be so temporary, remorseful and the painful end nullifies whatever joy we had. As past ecstatic moments are so quickly forgotten, we would wish we had another day or another year of bliss when regrets set in.

All the Prayers in the world, miracles, rituals, fraudulent activities, money and greed cannot change the character of a man or country for good; these are soothers that only dig deeper into our false hope of better days. They are pacifiers that keep us idle knowing heaven only helps those who help themselves.

Indeed, the richer we are, the more difficult it is to accept the end as those who were rich enough to know reflected: no amount of money can hire someone to take our painful end. Even if they promised you the magic wand to increase your lifespan and take your pain away, you would be dead before you realize they are heaven promises and fake makers. This is why vanity upon vanity is relevant.

PRODIGALS USE AFRICAN WEALTH TO ENRICHED OTHER CONTINENTS

There was a man that loved his family, village and country so much he almost sacrificed his life working to death anywhere he could find jobs. Even in the mines outside his country. Luckily, he accomplished all he could for his family, village and country. No matter how gifted a man, family, village or country is in talents, wealth and natural resources, only good character can manage and keep them in place, productively. Otherwise the wealth will be lost to those that are smarter.

We know that charity begins at home. Contrary to popular assumption, wealth is not limited to money. Wealth in many cultures are among those that are highly respected because of their contributions and skills in Arts, Sciences, Crafts and Culture, not necessarily in money. Indeed, the richest are not the most respected. Things Fall Apart taught us that in Umuofia, age was respected but achievement was revered.
