Buhari one-year anniversary has been anything but glorious. It has been pitiful compare to his last time around. It is a different era, yet Buhari has done what most Northern rulers do best. When he loaded his personal staff with Northerners, some of us defended him based on the fact that he was overthrown in a palace coup. He has gone further by reserving most of the strategic positions with Northerners as if Southerners and Federal character do not exist.

Late Idiagbon might have taken more heat than he deserved during the first coming of Buhari as military dictator. They ruled by fiat, regardless of what others thought. Idiagbon and the Supreme Military Council then had more impute in order to gratify Buhari’s power base. Eventually, they confirmed his fears and overthrew him and Idiagbon. In this case, we realize that Osinbajo is in a civilian democracy. A Vice-President is used as the President deems fit.

Idiagbon was in a way more powerful than Osibanjo as the military dispensation gave them the clout to carry out War Against indiscipline. Most of the people that voted for Buhari this time around wanted some grip on the national purse that was looted beyond reason with so much impunity. This gave Buhari an edge over the former President Jonathan. As far as those that voted for him are concerned, he has somehow lived up to it but below expectation.

Some of us would want him to go further. While we do realize constrains of democracy, the rule of law and due process, there are ways of confronting a killer disease if the life of the country is at stake. The same way western countries confront terrorism before it devours their cultural or normal way of life. They created task forces, detentions and outside jurisdictions.

Buhari could have gone as far as Obasanjo did with the atmosphere of accountability and the fear of consequences for the type of impunity we saw in the last Administration of President Jonathan. Ribadu was forceful, visible and acted as a deterrent for corruption under Obasanjo. He even claimed he used OBJ to investigate his friends and challenged anyone to point to any head of state that gave an investigating officer so much leverage and power.

Buhari Administration is a mixed bag. We are disappointment that he found ways to install his Northern agenda, which was expected but unable to find ways to fight corruption vigorously. He should have gone further and investigated some of those in his party. It is actually difficult to differentiate between PDP and APC crooks since each has many crossed-overs. If he had fought corruption harder, some of us may forgive his Northern dominated government like others.

Since he has not performed as well as expected, he exposed the penchant of Northerners to dominate every government they form without regards to fairness, decency and Federal character as stipulated in the constitution so that every part of the Country feels represented. Unless Buhari step up his fight against corruption, including those in his party like OBJ did and find way to include Southerners fairly in his Government, he is heading for another failure.

People confuse a buoyant economy driven by value and productivity with paper profit driven by corruption. These problems are further compounded because statistics can be used to justify sleaze in an Administration that was bound for a fall sooner than later. As value added markets can be justified so can fake economists prop up sleaze. Take foreign investment portfolios that scout developing countries looking for where to make quick paper profit in stock markets.

They blame this Administration for not making enough foreign allocations available to them so that the Country could default and pack up quicker if it could not meet its essential obligations.

Buhari did not ruin the economy he inherited ruins. Censure Buhari for another important blind spot where he seems helpless in is inability to secure peace and harmony within his reach. The marauding Fulani herdsmen going on a killing spree across the Country must be brought to a stop. No country can allow others within the same country to go into private property with the excuse that it is nobody’s but God’s land. This is what they will never tolerate in their own land.

Unfortunately, Buhari seems helpless and speechless with the feeble excuse that they are foreigners invading his country because of ECOWA agreement. Even when we know these same Fulani herdsmen are checked, controlled and deterred in other countries around Nigeria. If we cannot control herdsmen within our borders, there is no way we can control those coming in. If Nigeria is the only place such impunity exist, invitations are out for others to come in.

However, we know the atrocities of these herdsmen in our own countries for almost a century and the only reason it goes on is because they have backers and sponsors in high places among politicians and Armed Forces. It got to a stage in Plateau, junior military officers chose and pick whom to obey. Indeed, the owners of the cows are the rich calling for Southern or government subsidized ranches to avoid responsibility: burden at home, be educated or provided with jobs.

Disgruntled Nigerians that voted for Jonathan in the last election but lost have not relented. They have continued to hinder and obstruct every move Buhari makes. Every government must expect critics and some bitter disillusions because of their loss. It becomes cynicism when they have nothing to offer but the same former Administration that brought the country to its knees and stole all the funds needed to clean up polluted environment and help those in dire needs.

Every solution they give is to plunge the country into darkness to that it can disintegrate faster. They know full well they have nothing better to offer. These are the type of cynics that drive those who voted for Buhari and still criticize him constructively, to defend him. We know they are not serious because all they want is to see the ruins of the same country they derive their rights and sustenance from. Every place on earth is sick of their cries and cannot survive within.

It is unbelievable that some constituted “aggrieved” organizations are ready to blow up the Country unless Buhari stop probing them for corruption and sleaze in the last Administration. Here we are saying Buhari has not done enough on corruption, some people want amnesty for corruption. If they were not serious, we would take it as a joke. Bode, Sule, Tompolo, Chukwu, etc. images have suddenly turned into “saints and virgins” blackmailing the Government or else.

AFRICAN BEAUTY HAS BECOME GLOBAL TOO

Whenever “civilized” Africans speak of world or international standard, you can bet your house it is not about origination out of mother Continent. Like political economy, it has to emulate Europe and lately the Americas. It strikes like a bunch of needles under your seat when men and women of timber and caliber with their children talk about their “civilized” environment outside ours. They do justify the tag of “jungle” unlike democracy with any fault, is the best.

Luckily, our young people are coming out of this trance, though not fast enough because they revert back to privileged upbringing once in a while. The consequences lead to the rejection of Africa’s natural beauty. In fairness to the western world, they have produced some very dark models with short cut or Afro hair that has become appealing to certain segments of business.

Lupita Amondi Nyong'o, the Kenya that won an Oscar stirred a debate whether she would have been chosen for that role in the first place, if the Director was not a West Indian’s son. Well, if the Director had been African American, African or White we may be looking at someone with a different complexion and straight hair. Every one of them could be forgiven because of their sense of beauty, but how do we explain the choice of Africans’ beauty or political economy?

Lupita was chosen for a role, not as Miss World or Ms. Africa. A lady was chosen recently with almost the same attribute as Lupita Nyong’o. The review from some of her fellow Africans was so crude, if they were white, one would label them racists. There was a study years ago about black and white dolls that was repeated on CNN recently about the preference of dolls by black kids’. Sadly the choice of white dolls has not changed much.

Lola Abeni Adeoye won Miss Nigeria USA 2016/2017 as a proactive pride for motherland beauty. Unfortunately some of her people at home that have been brained washed beyond redemption were surprised that Nigerians in the United States could be so gullible in their choice of beauty. A few of the comments were so pungent; one would think they were coming from gorillas dangling from NPA Building in Marina.
This lady is so natural and beautiful, you would think she was specially made in heaven. It was so refreshing to see a proud, confident dark lady and well-endowed with short hair. Any more descriptive words may be sexist, suffice to say this is a beautiful lady. What these few people with bleached mentality were looking for was different from attributes those that crowned her were looking at. Since it was far away in America, it’s a refreshing choice and display of pride.

Colo-mentality did not start suddenly, it took time. It is very disturbing though that many of our ladies do not feel comfortable with their own hair anymore. A lady told us how she snapped out of nonsense. One weekend she could not get a hairdresser and had a very important occasion the following morning. It was then she realized that her inferiority complex had gone out of whack or mind completely. She was scared and could not go out with her natural hair!

People may be happy with a great deal of support and encouraging environment but the little discouragement or tiny distraction is what we must fight, so that it does not knock us down. There is no reason to be bogged down with snide little remarks out of abundant praises but our minds sometimes fall into that small crack. The fact is, as in this case, it says more about those who reject their own images in front of a mirror than the beauty they were looking at.

While growing up, we used to give equal praises to dark and natural light complexions ladies. Nollywood pioneer, Hubert Ogunde sang praises of the dark and light skin. There were cases where we made fun of Fanta face Coca-Cola body. So were those suspected to come from the union of African mothers and sailors around coastal areas. Fortunately, our African world was advanced enough to realize these were not albinos. Even if they were, albinos were respected equally at home and in schools. There were some innuendos that they were even smarter.

Unfortunately, we have since gone backwards. Most of the high complexion actresses get roles today because some Africans think they were prettier not necessarily for their skills. Mind you, these girls are our own daughters, sisters and wives. Some are products of 80s when beggars from Niger and North Africa flooded Lagos. Their brothers with light skins do not get any special treatment. In no way should the darker ones get special treatment either, with their chosen skills and professions. There is beauty in every color. Ours must not be undermined.

Bleaching and using Brazilian or Indian hair to be beautiful portray a deeper problem that cannot be cured in the short term. It brings long term problems and disappointment when skin cosmetics fade away as we aged. Some of the girls have accepted the long term medical damage it can cost for their short term gains, no matter how little. We do not know which is more embarrassing, recognizing a light skin that used to be dark or reintroducing yourselves.

It is worse for the men pursuing light skin ladies. We do not know which is natural or bleached. By the time you are hooked, most live with it and the babies coming out as dark as the mother’s natural skin color. The joke about those who believe in supernatural when they are jilted by ladies with Brazilian or Indian hair, is to take a piece of the hair to Voodoo man. Those affected or struck down by Voodoo would be running from Indian or Brazil crying for a cure in Africa!

We cannot lay all the blames on fair skin on women because they do it out of demands from men. There are men that are seen frequently in clubs where foreigners patronize. If they cannot marry light skin foreigners, they settle for the next “best” thing: bleached or natural fair skin lady. It shows our obsession and the rejection of self. So when they see a natural beauty in an African lady, they doubt their own image, claiming she not pretty. Pity!

Luckily, most of African populations outside the big cities are still very much into their natural culture and beauty. They retain their festivals, traditional ceremonies and meaningful ways of life in the choice of women and styles that matters. Their hair-styles are still admired and copied. Indeed, the city people still appreciate the tradition wedding ceremonies before their English or American weddings. They are the aberration. African beauty refuses to die!

Mental Illness And Akada

Life is tough. When we cannot face that reality, some of us buckle and go crazy to save face. We must learn from an early age how to face adversities.

Those that survive hard life are changed forever by it and it defines their attitudes. Unfortunately in these days of free loaders, swindlers have learned how to covert others people’s money into theirs. Some demand what is yours and you owe them without borrowing a kobo. Without sweating, they want yours or call you insane.

Some of you may have heard Adeolu’s song about Akada wey nor dey chop gari. When we were growing up at Surulere, New Lagos, there was this Dr. T that would walk from his house at Bank-Olemo to Super Cinema most evenings and back. Some people that had been watching this Akada every evening wondered why a qualified medical doctor would leave his car at home and walk around the neck of the hood like a crazy man. Finally the diagnosis was made.

They found out that when this man came back to Nigeria from England, his mother was sick. He decided to treat his mother but insisted that he must get paid for his medical service. People were socked at such behavior. So, as his mother recovered, she was told about his son. She was so mad at her son, the mother decided to place a curse on him. The bad doctor would not drive his car and would walk around the neighborhood!

Needless to say, these were people that were never close to the doctor and probably never knew his family. But then, in those days, you did not come back from London and walked around, especially when you had your own car. So rumor mongers around the neighborhood put their own story together to fit their narrow point of view. Some of us decided to ask our parents what was wrong with Dr. T, only to realize the poor doctor was just taking an evening stroll after a hard day’s work in his clinic. It could be a different story today, kidnapped to cure.

When our uncle came back to Nigeria he wanted to visit a friend at Yaba Psychiatric Hospital. As he entered the yard, he saw another friend of his. Shocked, he asked how he got there. He told his pathetic story of how his extended family got him admitted against his will after he came back from London. Uncle assured him that he was on his way to their chief and would get to the bottom of it. As he walked some meters away, a stone just missed him. Uncle turned around, it was his friend reminding him to deliver his message.

A patient was admitted to Queen Street Mental Center in Toronto. He stayed away from all the doctors, nurses and mental therapists because he could not trust them. Originally from India with an engineering degree, he could not get a job. So he decided on a master, after which he landed a contract. Each year the contract was renewed. When it was going to be a permanent position, he was assured he would get it the job. When a white guy got it, he went mental.

There was an intern black psychologist that was pushed to him and he opened up. When they finally took to each other, he told his story. The black psychologist told him if that was the reason he got mad, many blacks in Toronto would be in the same hospital, including himself. He was shocked to find out the psychologist had many experiences like him without going mad.

Before we move to that mosquito invested Surulere nobody wanted to relocate to. On our way back from soccer, table tennis or bicycles renting, we teased a few crazy people that left their families, would camp in a shelter by public latrines or parks. People were usually nice to them and would give them food and clothes. Yes, this was in Lagos. But some of them, disappointed by the way their families treated them would start cursing on the street. A few were sent to Baba Mokelegbe, our local “psychiatrist” to beat the craze out of them.

Some “mad” men or women that were violent were stoned by children though most of us were under strict order by any adult in the neighborhood not to stone them. A woman from a village, Ade Elegbo, that was deserted by her family decided to camp near a public latrine by Tokunbo and Odunfa streets. As she was cursing those that put her in that situation, some rascals stoned her and ran away from the sight of adults. One of the stones hit her close to the eye.

This writer cried home at the sight of blood. No child would dare tell his parent what he saw for fear of getting a good beating, because we were not supposed to be there in the first place. If our parents took madness seriously, a few could have also been sent to a mental hospital for crying for nothing. Apart from what happened, the fear of getting a good beating for even getting close to a mad woman, not to mention who threw the stone was, enough pain for us.

The decision could be split on those that were actually crazy or just good jolly old men loved by the children. Elebute O Wokuwo was loved by most of the children around Lagos. We would sing and follow him everywhere. As we grew older, we came to realize that his song had powerful meaning that was not obvious to us earlier.

All he was telling us was to work hard, that each of his children would achieve whatever effort they put into being potential doctor, lawyer, laborer or efulefu. The verdict on his mentality was divided on the street of Lagos, but as children we loved him. Then, the definition of craziness varied between children and some of their parents. Little did we realize plumber, mechanic, carpenter, construction workers made a lot of money if they come to Nigeria as expatriates.

It has been known for a while that people do not just get mad or just commit suicide. It is usually driven. Some of us could not face or handle the dire situation. Instead of taking a break, relax and cool off for better days; we rush into delusion and defensive mechanism. We shield ourselves from others or keep them away by exhibiting irrational behavior others may diagnose as crazy and they stay or run away from us. Just as we wanted.

The solution is to accept temporary failure and start all over again, not to always rap ourselves in isolation. Cultures interpret isolation differently. Those that are close to us want to invade our space while grieving and force us out of isolation, stop our “irrational” behavior and make us “whole”. It is a mistake; nobody gets out of that shield until we want to. We are ready when we face and recognize whatever compulsive behavior drive us to that corner.

The cure is not in the hands of self-gratifying do-gooders that preach solutions to madness for the benefit they derive. In any community that worships corruption, innocents are deemed crazies unless they conform. There is no cure for those that cover up their weaknesses since it gives them temporary relief, ecstasy or feeling good only to wake up to the same misery after.

Madness is a state of mind of the majority around you. In a country where everyone steals and loot the treasury, if you are not one of them, you are mad and they will send you to jail. In a gang where everyone kills and you decided not to kill, you are mad and they will kill you. If you do not conform to your environment or your community, you are crazy and some members of that community may decide to cure you as they did to Rashidi Yekini.

If Buhari is the Messiah almighty Allah has sent to deliver West Africa from the menace of these bloodthirsty terrorists, so be it. He must not shirk in his responsibilities. No Hausa man can aspire to any position of substance in the North without claiming some genealogy to the same Fulani marauders that destroyed their civilized way of life. We have complaints from some localities that those resisting terrorists on their farms disappeared.

Buhari has promised to face any threat to Nigeria the way he is dealing with Boko Haram. He must deliver on this incessant Fulani terrorist’s threat. It is obvious in this day that it is not about cattle or religion but about impunity to use Hausa brothers to capture slaves as if we still live in the past centuries. No African religion is so hungry for converts that blood must be shed in order to conquer. Indeed, African religions are so peaceful other religions take advantage.

Justice must not only be done, it must be seemed done to be fair and transparent to all peace loving individuals in a civilized community where everyone lives and let live. Misunderstanding, impunity and outright disregard for the rule of law and order create a community championed by a double-headed hydra. It deals ruthlessly with one group and closes its eyes to the atrocity of others. Buhari must not make past mistake of allowing the well connected to flaunt orders.

Here is a man his country men are praising for bringing sanity into the War Against Corruption, yet there are distractors left and right trying their possible best to sink the boat before we have a chance to rescue the Country from the hands of vultures, vagabonds and many that want the children of Africa back in chains. Terrorists cannot disguise as cowboys or cattle herdsmen.

Environment reforestation of the encroaching desert that may turn into barren wasteland has been preached and ignored for too long. Arab countries situated in the deserts have been able to claim back some of the desert and even established ice play ground for recreation. But we go to Niger and Chad further north and buy flowers to plant in Lagos and grass to start establishing ranches, not where it is needed all over the North but in the South to claim what is not theirs.

After all developing ranches all over Nigeria if each localities so choses is not a bad idea in itself, but it has to be their priority. No one can dictate grass ranches instead of yams, cocoa or palm oil because herdsmen want to wonder away from home. The same labor can be used on their ranches at home. More governors need to speak out against appeasement with people’s farms.

In the 21st century, people should be wiser. Reward in heaven, unmanageable virgins on earth, individual power grab veiled in ethnocentric sentiments and caste system are not enough to secure our loyalties. While other people space themselves between work, recreation and war on little people; we are constantly fighting over frivolities. The time we should be exploiting for discoveries, reflections and invention, we energize it on wasteful use of brainpower.

While other people space themselves between work, recreation and war on little people; we are constantly fighting over frivolities. The time we should be exploiting for discoveries, reflections and invention, we energize it on wasteful use of brainpower.

We then ask, how come others are ahead of us? They are not. Our time is spent on different priorities. Those of us that are able to space our efforts differently in a secured environment performed better against all odds. Buhari cannot wait until Fulani impunity degenerate into war.

If a lady wants a man she fancies, she displays behavior typical of all animals in the kingdom to get noticed. Once she is sure that the attention is secured, she plays hard to get. She expects him to come after her before she gives in. Some ladies may boldly initiate romance. Dominated female world include Aka of Congo, Masuo China, Sworn Virgins’ Albania and India’s Meghlaya.

There are many characteristics females display in the animal kingdom to get chased. One of the most beautiful displays of animal behavior is that of the avian species with beautiful rainbow feathers spread to attract attention of the opposite sex. It is also natural in human behavior. Yet, ladies tell us most of the time that she just wants to look good to please herself. Cosmetic display has gone crazy these days. Some are actually overdone and scary to some men.

Usually ladies are trained not to give in easily to men because once they mate, men’s attention span is less than that of a boy. So in order to get their maximum attention, let them sweat for romance. More ladies actually believe that the longer men wait, the more attention they get from them. The problem is if you play too hard to get, you may lose out to competitors that are ready. Not only for romance but also for family. Note career ladies want to wait a little longer.

After romance at the earliest or marriage at the longest, women have to chase after their men to retain their attention. It sometimes goes both ways but as usual, it is more beneficial for the adult in the relationship, mostly women to keep their men focused. Again ladies have been told never to lose sight of their men. After getting attention and being chased, the role is reversed.

Black men’s appetite for curvaceous buttocks as bootylicious has created market for designers selling clothes to shapely and sexually attractive ladies with more than just bones on the body. Pretty ladies that have been shunned in the past as too fat, now feel very proud in their skin. It has always been the case in Africa and African communities in Diaspora. It is a new fad though for white or Asian ladies expressing their black “genes” clearly in leotards and skintight clothes.

Of course women do not wear tight to be sexually attractive, they wear it to please themselves. So they readjust it for girl-watchers! It seems that some women do not know when to stop and hand over to younger ladies. Even the skintight clothes do not look good on every lady. Some women are better off in flowing clothes leaving the rest to suspense in imagination. But when ladies force themselves into clothes that do not argument their bodies, they look unattractive.

Designers sell artificial padded butts and boobs. One cannot but wonder what happens when a lady captures a man and takes off her artificial padded stuff. The clever ones would postpone eventuality claiming they want to get used to the boyfriend. Brazilians would go to doctors’ clinic for quick operations to add body fat. Just like face lift, some of them have turned awry.

Other cultures have their way of attracting men that may not be appreciated elsewhere. They apply different colors, painting of the body, scarifications or tattoos. Sometimes cultures may have a subculture within, each frowning on the designs of the other. Generally initiation of sexually attractive display suggests certain amount of maturity and age. But some younger girls have defied their parents because they cannot wait to be seen as matured and older.

We have very successful ladies that wished they had gotten hooked earlier, if they had to do it all over again. The choice between career and family could be tough for ladies. Most attractive ladies get snatched first and may lose out on their careers, unless they had decided to work on it later. We have very supportive men that have encouraged their wives in that direction after she had supported them to facilitate his career by staying home.

There were very strong women like Mrs. Ransome Kuti, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s mother that broke every rule in her days. She never stopped after having her children. Her life was a whole story by itself. She will always be known as a pioneer of Women’s Movement in men’s dominated world before her contemporaries in the Western world gain attention and recognition.

Africa’s first lady Prime Minister of Liberia Helen Sirleaf, married at the age of 17, before her long career in politics unlike many African women. United States former Speaker, Nancy Pelosi reminded the press that she started her career late after supporting her husband and children. So she was not retiring anytime soon. So was Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher of England.

The next generation may be able to choose the gender, eye and hair and skin color of their children, leaving romance by the way side.

Moreover some crazy scientists were speculating about the time ladies would not need men for procreation anymore since other means could be used to stimulate the eggs for fertilization. Nature has a way of disposing our proposals by the law of unintended consequences. It will deprive us of the joy of romance, courting, all the cultural ceremonies, hide and seek that go with mating. A different type of world that most of us would not desire or enjoy might emerge.

If ladies and gentlemen can no longer look forward to the moment they can romance, get one another into the sack, there would be a great deal of behavioral changes and wonders about what else to do. Pursuit of happiness by the way of coupling, hugging, entertaining and eating together make up most of our world. Other important activities like working is to provide for the families by making ends meet. One without the other may be worth very little.

Romance revolves around a couple as a company of each other; and by the time children are introduced, they become a crowd that can throw a party and enjoy themselves within.

How big does multibillion businesses have to be before they started generating their electricity and foreign/hard cash? They must stop depending and blaming our unresponsive governments they control. Generate your foreign money like poor students, entertainers, sports figures. Start selling your surplus electricity back to national grid, right now, not in five years or in the future.

We have to thank God that finally Dagote and Chukwuma of Innoson motors are promising to generate foreign money and depend on local raw materials for their products. There are more of you out there like OBJ, Dantata, Otedola, Danjuma that have multibillion businesses but are still competing with little start-up companies for meager Government foreign reserve, national grid; not Panama accounts. Stop or give up your Central Bank foreign allocations and PHC/NEPA.

Certainly the gesture of Dangote and Chukwuma are the right moves in the right direction. Our fear is that all the promises made by African political and business leaders featured in blue prints were always postponed when it came to due date. We are so sick and tired of rosy road maps and plans that never materialized. Many of these companies except Innoson motors have been in business long enough to implement these promises right now.

However, Africans depend on government as the biggest employers and our big businesses depend on government for allocations from foreign reserves. It is important to note that for budding businesses and start-ups, this is expected. But once they started generating profits from sales inside and outside, they should source their own foreign money from their profits. Ikechukwu had to source dollars from oil companies, a historical first. Owo Abu nse Abu lalejo!

When Hubert Ogunde started entertaining us with our own culture for shillings in those days, most people never believed he would make money from what is now known as Nollywood! They are now one of the foreign currency earners in Nigeria. These young men and women achieved their success without depending on the governments for handouts, allocation from foreign reserves or crying for NEPA. Indeed, they built their own world of infrastructures.

So are our young students around the age of twenty-three while studying, also working to send money home to their parents and siblings: pumping foreign money into our local economy. If many of us knew what the hell it took to do this, we would not venture out of African countries. But when young men and (pregnant) women swear they are ready to die in the deserts than stay at home and suffer, we must examine how and who are the managers of our resources.

It is not western governments that make their countries rich, it is the people and the businesses they created worldwide selling goods and services that brought foreign riches to their countries. The roles of their governments are limited to laws, regulation and rules that further their effort and protect their existence. In some cases, these businesses are so jealously protected abroad to the detriment of ours. Enron was a case in point that defrauded some developing countries.

When Dangote goes to establish plants in African countries, he never complained about lack of infrastructures, electricity and water. Dangote made his own electricity, roads in and out of the jungles and created his own water. Indeed, in most cases he leveraged his own money from the profits of his companies in and out of that country. He does not have to wait for five years to do that in Nigeria. He can start right now. Rankadede!

Dangote self-reliance in other African countries is not unheard of. Some African companies and many foreign companies know it is good business. Oil companies usually generate their own electricity, roads, staff housing and schools. A few even extend social functions to neighboring communities close to their established oil companies’ villages or sell surplus power to national grid. Apart from generous “bush” allowance to staff, they just want to make them comfortable.

If we ask African businesses not to depend so much on governments, foreign big corporations that have been in Africa for ages making profits, have no reason sharing or asking for allocation out of the little government reserves which is much less than theirs. These are companies that paid less wages compared to foreign staff, get most of their raw materials locally and export declared and creative accounting profits out of Africa. Reinvestment of some profit is good biz.

We are not asking these companies to take over the responsibilities and functions of their local governments, we are only asking them to be responsible corporate citizens. They should not poison the well they drink from. If they can hold their noses long enough to make profits while here, they should not drain the governments’ foreign reserves. They can plough some profit in.

In essence we have Panama looters, local big businesses and foreign companies competing for the little and dwindling foreign reserves of countries overwhelmed with the basic needs of folks. They are vultures threatening jobs and meagre salaries paid, unless they get their lion profit out.

Some of the conditions laid down by Chukwuma are fair responsibilities of the Government. It is disgraceful that we have local auto plants but our government ministers and officials are driving vehicles whose makers have not contributed anything to the economy. Yet our producers of nothing and consumers of everything cannot wait to purchase these foreign cars with our hard earned reserves at the back of fishermen in environmental polluted swamps.

Right now in United States, the Government has introduced corporate inversion regulations to prevent their big corporate companies from dodging their taxable profits on paper by merging with small companies overseas while retaining their advantages in U.S.A. But if the Country exhausts all its foreign reserves, it will be saved from economic ruins? If we are to believe these foreign trained economists, their magazines, newspapers or prostitutes, Nigeria has no choice but to devalue its currency so that it can pay more in local currency for their odious loans, goods and services.

Once Nigeria pays more in devalued naira, goods, services, transportation fare and service loan fees will increase accordingly. Housing and car purchases increase will follow and workers will demand more to meet daily expenses. It is illogical to think that paying more in devalued naira will automatically solve the problem of a market without abundant local products to export.

All foreign loans would need more naira to maintain. As well as foreign goods, housing estates, constructions and infrastructure. In order to pay lenders, more would have to be demanded from users to meet their obligation to buy dollars with devalued naira. These increases would fuel more inflation as workers work harder or take other jobs to pay their rents. More naira would be needed for freely imported food, pencils, secondhand materials; killing local goods.

Manufacturers that need essential raw materials that are not available in Nigeria would have to compete with pencil, water and tooth picks importers paying more devalued naira. If they could not generate enough naira to buy dollars, many would have to close shops, plants and factories. Workers would be laid off increasing the number of people in non-essential markets eking out a living. One would think that these manufacturers would be the first against devaluation.

Yet, some of them are threatening to lay off millions of workers if they do not get their free and open way to buy dollars as they wish as if Nigeria prints American and European currencies. The foreign companies have money in their foreign banks 10 times the amount of African countries’ foreign reserve but they will never reinvest it in Africa. They will rather exhaust the little income these poor African countries have so that they can be destabilized after sucking their blood out.

However, they have another reason for free falling devalued naira. Most of them make so much naira from their undeclared profit in Nigeria, they are ready to buy dollars at any price so that they can export unreported profit as well as profit made in dollars from export. Use different methods of creative accounting where they could hide undeclared profit as expenses. Their foreign and favored local employees are paid so much naira, they could buy dollars at any price.

One of the head of Mobil claimed they could not establish oil refinery as Dagote is planning to because they had to report to their American shareholders with different interest from Dagote. This is a Nigerian Director being manipulated against his own country and must deliver even if the interest of Nigeria is at stake. It gives an insight on how divergent our interests are. They are in Africa to milk us dry and pollute our environment in the process without responsibilities.

Take gas flaring for example. These same oil companies claimed they needed time but many deadlines passed and there was no action. Many African countries had to pass laws against gas flaring because each time they try to work with oil companies, they reneged on their goodwill and promises. They ignore and flaunt these laws while intentionally wasting valuable resources and polluting the environment. They install African directors to further neo-colonism interest.

In order to get hold and exhaust African Country’s foreign reserves, they refused to establish refineries and agricultural farms partnerships to create jobs. They would rather import oil and modified genetic seeds from the farmers in their home countries. Better still, would operate refineries and farms there and import the products into Africa. They are now one step further. They are buying farms in African countries dictating what to grow, the price and where to sell.

What type of PMS, sugar, milk, cocoa or alcohol beverages do they need to import that cannot be refined, grown or established in African countries? They use machines and equipment as excuses. After fifty years, none of these machines and their parts are made locally so that they can have reason to import them and bring glorified mechanic as engineers to service them.

Most of these foreign companies have been in Africa for ages and they sell many finished products made in Nigeria outside without reporting profits in dollars or paying taxes on these. Foreign companies claim they need all the foreign currencies they could get for raw materials imported. Even when we know that most of their raw materials are available locally. You may wonder what raw materials are needed for sugar and water companies like Coca-Cola.

Cocoa and beverage companies that have been in the Country forever are competing with star-up companies for foreign reserves when they should be the source of foreign exchange earners for the Country. The raw materials of most of them are cocoa, sugar, milk. Even those that claim they need wheat or barley for beverages could have established farms across the Country to grow their raw material after all these donkey years. But that will defeat their insidious goal.

They would rather grow wheat in North Africa and import it to Nigeria but if we grow cassava in Nigeria they would only export it to China at their own price. The common mean spirited policy here is their freedom to grow anywhere and export. As long as the country of operation has no control over the movement of currencies. It is their way of beating the currency restriction. Foreign companies get subsidized at Central Bank and use illegal earnings to buy local currency.

Ironically, western politicians decry most of the trade agreements as taking well-paying jobs away from Europeans and Americans. You can imagine what they get away with in Africa where selfish local managers and politicians collude with foreign companies to defraud Nigerians.

None of these companies would dare operate this way at home without bilateral agreement or multilateral agreement. This was the reason European and American local unions campaigned against cheap labors in Asia where they could pay starving wages to maximize their profits. We must give some credit to Asian countries since their governments get cuts in profits from shares in the companies, taxes on profits they must declare to patriotic local managers.

Most men of all ages want ladies in their twenties but most ladies in the 20s want men closer to their age. Unfortunately, there are not enough men in their twenties to satisfy the needs of all those ladies in their twenties. Some of the men are just not ready for huge responsibilities of marriage at that age anymore unless they have rich families insisting they get serious with their girlfriends. They would rather wait to plan until they accumulate wealth or save enough money.

What drives other ladies to older man other than money? Plenty: elevation of status or security. Most women, more than most men, are very educated consumers when it comes to choosing a partner, even in their twenties. Though as men get older, they become wiser. When it comes to young tote, the older they are the easier they lose their senses. Many have been taken for rides!

While delaying marriage, young men join others in their thirties and sometimes those in their forties. We know that at this point, families would become worried wondering if their offspring are going to get serious about producing grandchildren. In some cases, the ladies these young men would love to get married to may be wishing to hook up with a different young man in his twenties. An irreconcilable mismatch posting some women into their thirties may be regretted.

The same is true of the young men, as they procrastinate into their thirties and forties, they are no more in the favored age group most ladies in their twenties would like to marry. Since ladies in their twenties prefer young men around their age. Remember that men of all age groups prefer women in their twenties. By the time men wait until their thirties and forties, they are not looking for women in their age group anymore. They want younger ladies, in the twenties!

When many of the ladies get to their thirties, they have become highly matured, wiser, many with good careers and knowing what they want from men. Sometimes, it is turn of these ladies to attract men in their twenties. Especially those young men still struggling to find a niche. One pretty lady brought her case to family court against a man in his twenties that ditched her for younger girlfriend. She was ten years older, but still pretty as a rock, better off with older men.

This lady never saw herself as a cougar in her thirties, if anything, she looked as young as the boyfriend. The court and the boyfriend�s mother could see through the young man as a user that lived between her mother and his girlfriend�s house driving her car. She demanded in her claim, most of what she gave him including money as loan contingent on payback as soon as he got a better job. Well, it sounded like a code word for � only if he finally married her.

Women in their thirties are not so frantic to get a man but they harbor a feeling of helplessness if they get squished closer to their forties. They have to make the decisions whether to look for more matured and older man that will cuddle them like a gem. Either keep hope alive for a man around their age or continue their careers and settle down as cougars later on. They may not be so desperate if they have good jobs but they also longed for a satisfying relationship with a man.

Factors career ladies in their thirties preferred in a partner include gentleman that is just as educated, carry himself both in the relationship and in a circle of friends. But there are many single men with good paying blue-collar jobs looking for educated ladies. These ladies would keep them on the side to satisfy their sexual needs but will never go out with them or even get pregnant for him. How can anyone claim she is looking for a man, when one is right in her bed?

Well, if you work hard and paid your dues, there is nothing wrong with desiring someone in the same class. Sex is important but not the overriding quality most women desire in a man. There was a survey that asked married women if they want more sex in their marriage, most women said yes they do. But when asked if they would leave their husbands to get married to someone else for more sex, majority said no; they would rather stay with same man. Which country!

There is a general consensus that by the time ladies gets into their thirties, the age of partners is no longer a big deal. It comes from the notion that nobody should be getting into the sexual preference of a grown woman, no matter the age of the partner. This article stated that men of all ages prefer women in their twenties and ladies in their twenties prefer men around their age. In their thirties, ladies relax age preference to accommodate prevailing market for good men.

By the time women get to their late thirties and forties, single or divorced, they are ready or prepared to play cougars. The same ladies that dress older as teens for older men, would do anything to look younger for men of any age: diet, cosmetic surgery, bleaching, padded butts or boobs, fake hair. Even then, women are more discreet than men, with taste for younger partner. It may have something to do with community norms, double standard or men�s dominance.

Older men have more to gain from ladies in their thirties and forties than they do in preference for ladies in their twenties. As stated earlier, ladies are very educated consumers in their choice of men from their late teens. The general observation is that ladies in late teens or twenties looking for older men want a lot more than relationship. They want money, as everyone but not necessarily as much security as older ladies: young ladies may have no intention to stay as long.

It is the same relationship cougars crave for, in younger men � older ladies get excited and toy boys get enthralled. Both realizing their relationship is not going to last. Older men are sucked into believing that the relationship with young ladies would last forever; as some plan escape!

Well, nobody forced Africans to change tastes to conform to foreign food and goods enabling Bureau De Change. They are proving to the whole world that they are “civilized”. [b] Do poor children generally love their parents more than the spoilt brats? It depends on the parents is not the answer. No matter how strict most parents are, rich kids have this notion of entitlement unavailable to poor kids. They develop some resentment if they feel their parents are “stingy” with imagined wealth. It’s like the university graduate that complained bitterly that his father gave him a Volkswagen after graduation while his friends got Peugeot or Mercedes.

We all love our children and expect them to love us forever. As we get older and they become adults, their responsibilities and focus shift to their own families. In order to attract them back, especially mothers, “bribe” them with gifts within their means. It could be with their favorite dish as a kid or a little money from her pension if paid. When you see old people playing lottery with a little they have, they want to share the winning with their children to gain affection back.

Unfortunately, the way parents make their money, in most cases determine how their children love them. Children, like adults, are usually proud of the parents that struggle hard to put food on the table and strive to meet their obligations. However, children cannot be proud of efulefu parents, are actually ashamed of those communities stigmatized as: onye-oshi, barawo or ole!

Children are usually adaptable to their environment. There are families living on environmental dumps on the lagoon and on the streets. Yet, in these desperate situation some families are better placed than the others. One may be able to get better shelter made of aluminum, wood or readymade cave. Yet the bond between children and parents remain in those dire situations. Some of the parents have given their children to others to look after because they are too poor.

Just as a reminder, African children are more than investment. When Yoruba say – a jeun omo o – it is more than expected returns on the care we rendered them. Unfortunately, this is not the generation we can claim that much from. Even rich countries and parents fail to see rosy future for their children unless the top 5% spreads economy gains around. Some will argue it is the reason politicians think they can loot their way into the future so their grandkids will not suffer.

Mind you, riches even the one obtained the old fashioned way, can become a game of numbers. When we have enough to take care of our needs and wants many push for more than the other guys. A bigger house, better car or many more. If an Edge Fund manager, you want to create more profit than the other managers. At some point, some of us realize that more money does not give us happier children orfamilies. It may even deny us of quality time with them.

The relationship between a child and the mother is sacred and most fathers realize that. It takes an overbearing father to assume otherwise unless there is a contingent factor that renders the mother unfit. As in a true story of a toddler and his father struggling to survive. The father was homeless and one could not imagine a poorer mother. Children, no matter how poor, curious if mother or father in jailed. At some point, that child would find them. What is evident is the love of those children for their mother or father. They always miss the poor homes they left and the affection of their parents. When it gets to the point that a poor homeless father has to shelter his son or daughter without the comfort of a mother, it becomes a sadder story. There is some deep lasting affection from poor children. Giving back to parents, a big motivating factor to succeed. Unfortunately, armed robbers and prostitutes use it as excuse.

We also have great humble kids. Comparing their deep affection to those of children that grow up in poor families where the children think parents owe them less is sobering. While it is true that children compare themselves to their neighbors in either rich or poor environment, taking rich life for granted begin at an early stage. The attachment and obligations poor children have for their poor families can hardly be compensated by those of rich parents that hire helps.

Most parents love their children so much, they are willing to go without food, water, sleep and other necessities so that their children may have. Fathers work in camps for months and return home. As these children get older, their reluctance to leave home change from affection to survivalalone on their own.This behavior with children also exist within the animal kingdom.

There must be a continuum from affection stage to survival stage as children grow older. If the parents are rich, there is room to accommodate them. But if they are poor that option is very limited. Since parents always pray that their children do better than them, in the days of less opportunities, children may want to hang on longer at homes where parents are rich. They do not want to give up their comfortable rooms. The poor children do not enjoy that choice.

So poor children look for jobs more diligently. Psychologists have preached that rules have to change once the jobs situation is not favorable enough for children to take the plunge. They must look for some jobs even if it is not their ideal jobs and must contribute to the house. Parents must learn to set limits otherwise children will take over and kick out the parents. Most African parents are willing to accommodate their children longer, just as upper class Europeans.

Indeed some of these children bring their husband and wives home with the promise that they are saving for their own houses. Middleclass Africans and Europeans may accept it but it is less common among Americans until the recession hit. What we see during the recession in America are two generations of middleclass families living together in the same house. Generations of families living together is more common in Africa and Europe.

In short, children only realize fully what their parents went through as they become adults themselves. That is why children never forget the poor homes mothers struggle so hard to keep.
