Your god "forgives" only if you submit, beg, grovel and obey. If you do not, you will suffer "for eternity." This is not exactly forgiving and forgetting and not an example that I would recommend to anyone. I do agree that it is good to let go of petty feelings resulting from past events. However, as stated above, some things should not be forgotten, otherwise we fall victim to them repeatedly. |
Sam Harris cracks me up sometimes. This is an old video. Satya Sai Baba died over two years ago. He was reported to "rise" on the "third" day. ![]() |
Why should I consider quitting smoking, drinking, and womanising? |
God's chosen religion is the one that your parents had, what is predominant in the area you live, or what you were taught as a child. Remember, God thinks like YOU! |
I always felt (even as a small child) that all of the theist mythology was embarrassingly stupid. I never for one second believed. One thing that a forum like this does is shows people that they are not alone. This gives them the courage to call a turd a turd and move forward. |
blink182: Please, I am talking to christians not atheists or some other form of religion that have no business with Easter.I understand your position. I, however, understand how bad ideas can go on forever in an echo chamber. I also understand how the behaviours that come out of the echo chamber can negatively affect me and others who have no business with easter. The least of which is acceptance of bad logic. The idea that Jesus "...could have changed His mind and told the Father He wasn't going to die for our sake" is questionable. Then what? Let's really think about it all. What are the options? Option A) Have a bad weekend and complete the suicide mission that your all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful father wants. Afterwards, be zipped up to a paradise to rule over the universe forever with billions of adoring fans (living humans, dead humans, angels, etc). Have the power to do whatever you want whenever you want. Option B) Refuse to follow through with the plan and __________________________________________. What was the other option? If there wasn't one, then there is no significance to the decision? |
Pastor Olu T: @ noprophecyOur intellect is our greatest woe? We cannot comprehend your god? Why are you even in this discussion? My reason for entering this thread is part of an attempt to make sense out of things. If the answer is always "god is awesome, he does whatever the hell he wants (it does not have to make sense), and you will never understand..." Why flex your little mind at all? |
obadiah777: THE LORD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS. WHAT THE UPLIFTED EMPIRE, ROMANS WHO ARE CAUCASIANS, SIMPLY DID WAS RETURN TO BLACK PEOPLE WHAT WAS THEIRS IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE BIBLE. THE BIBLE HAS HAD AN AMAZINGLY YET PRECARIOUS JOURNEY, WELL IT WASNT CALLED THE BIBLE BACK THEN. IT WAS SCROLLS. THE SCROLLS WERE PUT TOGETHER BY THE PROPHETS OF ISRAEL, ALL BLACK MEN, OVER A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD AND DURING THEIR DIFFERENT CAPTIVITIES. HOWEVER IN ALL THEIR CAPTIVITIES THEY WERE ALLOWED TO RETURN HOME TO ISRAEL. HOWEVER THE CAPTIVITY BY THE GREEKS AND THE ROMANS WAS THE MOST BRUTAL. THEY ACTUALLY KICKED THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF ISRAEL INTO AFRICA. STOLE ALL THE SCROLLS AND KEPT IT AS THEIRS. THE ISRAELITES RAN INTO AFRICA AND OVER TIME LOST A SENSE OF WHO THEY WERE ( THEY GOT DISCONTINUED FROM THEIR HERITAGE JEREMIAH 17 VS 4 ). THE ROMAN EMPIRE GOT ATTACKED BY A GROUP OF BLACK GENERALS HEADED BY SEPTEMIUS SEVERUS AND BLACKS TOOK CONTROL AGAIN IN 193 AD. THEY RULED FOR ABOUT 1000 YEARS. SOME CALLED THEM THE MOORS BUT THEY WERE ISRAELITES. AROUND 1300 AD THE BLACKS GOT OVERPOWERED AND FINALLY ALL GOT KICKED OUT BUT NOT BEFORE THE LAST BLACK KING IN EUROPE KING JAMES HAD THE SCROLLS COMPILED INTO A BIBLE BECAUSE THE WHITE EUROPEANS WHO TOOK OVER OTHER PARTS OF EUROPE WERE CORRUPTING THE MESSAGES IN THE SCROLLS AND MAKING THEIR OWN BIBLES AND PUTTING WHITE IMAGES IN IT AND CHANGING EVERYTHING UP SO THAT YOU WOULD THINK THEY WERE THE ONES WHO WROTE ITThis sounds like a conspiracy theory. Even if true, the "MYSTERIOUS WAYS" gag is never satisfactory. Things that seem irrational, incompetent, and ignorant may be just that: There does not necessarily have to be a supreme intelligence and plan behind it. |
tobechi20: at least existence of Jesus can been provenYes! Jesus can be proven. I saw him play football last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesús_Sánchez_García Take that you stupid atheists! |
enilove: Our body is physical, housing our spiritual body.Human beings are made of body, spirit and soul. How many spirits can dance on the head of a pin? Do evil spirits dirty dance? |
I cannot think of anyone, ever, in the history of the world who deserves to be tortured forever. Only a purely evil, sick person would create such a thing as hell. One man who lived down the street from me had a baby with his wife several years ago. His wife passed away soon after the birth of the child and he had to raise it on his own. At about the age of 2.5, the baby wandered out of the yard and was mauled by another neighbor's rottweiler. Before anyone could intervene, the baby had suffered serious injury and later died in the hospital. Somehow the dog disappeared and no one was able to find it. Several years later there was a fire in the man's house. During the extinguishing of the fire, it was found that the missing dog was chained up in the man's basement. From all of the cuts, burns and broken limbs on the dog, it was obvious that the man had been beating and torturing it for years. It was also obvious that he had been feeding it to keep it alive. The dog was removed from his possession. Without the fire, there is no telling how long he would have kept this up. If the dog had been caught at the time of the original incident, it would have been put to sleep. The man, however, felt that it was better to capture and torture the dog. OK. I just made this story up. The actions described above, however, are those of a pathetic, mentally ill person. In no civilized society would he be considered anything else. Even if a dog did this horrible thing, would it be sane and just to torture the dog for years? How about forever? |
nect: By Kolawole Azeez on MUSLIM CONNECTOYG! |
somalia9: Quran, Surat At-Tawbah 9:60 specifies that Zakat is to be used for freeing slaves and bonded labourersThis does not sound like the Koran forbids enslaving (non-muslim) human beings. If it is forbidden, what is the punishment for enslaving human beings? "A hundred stripes?" "...that they will be killed or crucified?" "...have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off?" "..be expelled out of the land?" "confine them to the houses until death take them?" "..cut off their hands?" Randomly "freeing" people does not constitute a ban on enslaving human beings. The Jesus character "healed" people that he ran into on the street, but did not abolish (cure) any diseases. These are just random acts of charity based on what adoring fans you run into. |
blink182: Fix your mind on this as you celebrate our victory through Christ Jesus. So it was a suicide mission. Given that, did he really die? Or did he just give up his (obviously worthless) human life? A real sacrifice means giving up something valuable. If he was (& knew he was) your god's son, then he had nothing to lose. In fact, agreeing to the deal would get him an express trip away from all of the ignorant, backwards, superstitious people on this earth and up to a paradise. On top of this, he got the worship of billions of people to boot. Is this a sacrifice? If he made a real sacrifice, he would be dead and FOREVER gone. This is not the case. He just had a bad weekend. Why should I grovel because of this? |
somalia9: yes.Where in the Koran is this stated? |
somalia9: islam is not an aran religion. 87 percent of muslims are not arab. islam was never forced on somalis. arabs ran to somalia to escape persecution in their homeland. somalis accepted islam before turks, north africans, iraqis etcSo islam forbids the ownership of human beings? |

Jglad: Most of us av watched dis film, wat do u tink abt it and in wat way has it helped ur faith in Christ?.. D film has made me realise hw Great his Love for me is.. Hw abt u?I find ritual human sacrifice disgusting. I don't care if it is throwing virgins into volcanoes, burying babies beneath the post of your home, or burning children to appease angry gods. It is all sick and if a god neeeds/wants it, he is truly evil. I also find self-righteous martyrdom disgusting. This mindset leads to things like suicide bombers and people flying planes into buildings - both killing countless innocent people and ruining many more lives. There are better ways to express love. A love that values life and rejects death, torture, and unnecessary suffering would be admirable. |
duba: All these u just explained, does it explain why we dream? Because I've dreamt about someone, & d person was experiencing exactly the same thing in my dream, while we were miles apart. That experience to me is more than physical, I believe in d spiritual nature of things. That is to say there is a higher being beyond our understanding. I believe in d existence of God.What I say also does not explain why people win the lotto. Someone just one $338M USD. I only wish that all of these people with these amazing powers to fly to the future from their past life and share dreams could put it to some practical use: Fly to the future and document the discovery of a disease that kills thousands of people every year. Find ways to feed the starving. Win the freaking lotto! Do something other than see cousin Poochie in a dress in a dream then see her in that dress at church the next day or some other valueless coincidence. |
dorox: It is my firm belief that life is unique to the earth because God created it. So if there be an incontrovertible proof of extraterrestrial life whether it is in the form of direct alien encounter here on earth, or from space probes sent to other planets, or through intergalactic radio communication, my belief in God would be completely shattered. This is the most honest reply on the entire thread. I have to admit, this is the first time I have ever seen a religious person attempt to answer this question. Although it may shatter your belief in your conception of god, it would not disprove the existence of god(s). It sounds like your concept of a god puts you (this earth) at the center of the universe. For many centuries religious people shared this belief and thought that it meant having all of the planets and stars revolve around the earth. The concept that the earth was not the center of the universe was initially suppressed, but the religious evolved, accepted the heliocentric model and kept their religious beliefs. Could you do the same? |
dekung: For most christians it is unthinkable to believe their sky daddy doesn't really exist. It leaves them empty and without purse hence nothing will maake them change their mind on the God sIdea even with all damnig evidences staring them in the face. Its like believing you have a rich billionaire relative who cares for you but you cannot see him now. He is going to reveal himself sometimes in the unknown future but he ensures you are taken care of. He provides your parents with money to train you and take care of you, he sends his men to watch over you all the time. EIf you have believed this all .your life and someone tells you thaat relative does not exist would you believe? You would ask: who gives my parents money to send me to school, who gives them money to feed me, who ensured that this happened and that happened becaause you are full of hope that very soon you would live like a billionaire. No logical or superior argument would make you change you. It willeven be worse if you were told that the relative is actually your reall father and that the ones you know now are just surrogates. Nothing will maake you change your mind however the truth is that relative doesn't exist. This makes sense. |
Bu ancestors, you mean the Ape men who lived 1000s of years ago? dont you realise that Paganism is natural human phenomena that cannot be done away with?! there is evidence of Paganism in cave/rock-art done 1000s of yrs ago before civilization itself. Please dont talk any nonsense if you have no idea of Paganism. we bliv in SPiritual Forces, not invincible men in the sky
!!!!Magic!!! |
2buff: Firstly, No one is "good". Some people tend to have very colorful pasts. Even though possibly saved and redeemed by the blood, God in his wisdom may let some things happen for their (oft unseen) benefit. This god could be incompetent, absent, &/or evil and the suffering of "good" people will make perfect sense. What good will it do to pray to a god who is so embarrassingly incompetent that he could not help you even if he wanted to? What good will it do to pray to a god who has been off on holiday for the last million years? What good will it do to keep praying to an evil god who enjoys the suffering of humans? |
Snowwy: @enilove and image123, you have said it all. Sex is designed for the man and his wife...Where do you get this from? |
leonshom: Are u an Atheist? u sounded like one !An incompetent or evil, sadistic god is still a god. It has nothing to do with atheism. |
obadiah777: IF YOU RUN BUTT NEKKID ALL COVERED IN GASOLINE INTO A BURNING BUILDING. THAT OUGHT TO DO IT FOR MEOK. I just did that. So now you have been DE-converted. |
Reyginus: My friend, their is also nothing rational and humble in denying the fact that he is right.Right about what? Right about knowing that he is right without evidence and refusing to allow any evidence to change his mind? The concept of falsifiability is an invaluable way of strengthening an argument and allowing our overall knowledge to advance. If you are intellectually honest and 100% certain that your belief is correct, you should be able to define conditions that will prove your belief to be wrong and show that these conditions does not exist. If you are just superstitious and afraid that some big, bad, god is gonna git you if you think the wrong thing, you will just shut your mind off and believe. |
benodic: @ NoProphecyI would gladly leave you alone if you would stop beating nails into the heads of children that you are "100% sure" are "witches" or "possessed by demons"; stop trying to blow up your underpants on planes full of innocent people (because it is rational that your god wants you to do so); stop flying planes into buildings and killing thousands of innocent people; stop killing innocent people in an attempt to inflict your backwards, primitive, disgusting (sharia) "laws" on others; and stop trying to get modern governments to pass and enforce laws that are based on the scribblings of primitive people. If you were just rolling around on the floor having your hallucinations, I would not care. |
Reyginus: Lol. Seriously, in relation to the questions he raised, this is crap. These are all documented, testable ways that what is described can be achieved. |
This could be the sign of an incompetent god who had no idea of what he was doing. The sloppy (intelligent?) human design has many flaws that god hates, but he was not smart enough to design them out of his creation. Despite this, he keeps his expectations intact and is eager to punish people for exhibiting the flaws the he created. Another option is that god loves to punish and torture people. The scenario that you describe is a clear case of entrapment. It is setting people up so that a very large amount of them will fail. This allows god to justify his infliction of eternal suffering on them. |
benodic: I will stop believing in the existence of God and the supernatural if the physical scientists are able to explain the following things to me.#1. Schizophonic hallucinations: Confirmation bias. #2. Confirmation bias. #3. Schizophonic hallucinations. #4. Regression to the mean, misdiagnosis, delayed response to treatment, remission, hypochondria. When it can be proven that the events you describe happen anywhere outside of the head of the claimant, it will be possible to tell the crazy from the miraculous. |
italo: We are certain already. So nothing will make us decide God isnt real. There is nothing rational nor humble about refusing to consider the fact that you might be wrong. It is not likely that I did not open this thread, but not impossible. I am aware of how fragile and malleable the human brain is. People are convinced all of the time of things that did not happen. In addition to this, mental illness is a tragic reality for many people. In both instances, the individual is 100% certain of their delusion. |
This is not exactly forgiving and forgetting and not an example that I would recommend to anyone. I do agree that it is good to let go of petty feelings resulting from past events. However, as stated above, some things should not be forgotten, otherwise we fall victim to them repeatedly.
