Car Talk / Re: Opinions Needed: My Mechanic Said I Should Use Only Water First In New Radiator. by novexme(m): 3:35pm On Dec 28, 2023
Jjokke:
I bought a brand new radiator for my Lexus RX330.
I told the mechanic that I need to buy coolant. He said I should use ONLY water for some time (like 3 months) before using coolant.
Please I need opinions on this because I don't know if a new radiator require only water first before using coolant.

That isnt right, using water would corrode your radiator, always use only radiator coolant.

Even for detection of leaks coolant is better because it is coloured.

Ensure you use a very good coolant. depending on the type of engine block your car has.

There are different types of coolant in the market but I can recommend an ideal one for you which is Hacops Radiator coolant, Total radiator coolant or Ardova Radiator coolant.

Take it from someone who is in that field.

Just coming across this thread today and I want to make some clarifications. About what a Radiator coolant is or Anti-freeze as some people call it.

1) A radiator coolant should be a mix of ethylene glycol, additives and distilled water, while Anti-freeze is mostly ethylene glycol and additives, some come mixed already with distilled water while some require you to mix it yourself.

Major difference between the two is Antifreeze has more of ethylene glycol due to the ability for it not to freeze in extreme cold conditions.

It delays boiling and also retains heat for a longer time.

The more ethylene glycol you have in your coolant depends on where you live.

If you are living in a temperate climate like us, Europe, Asia you require a coolant with 50/50 mix or more

While if you live in tropical climate like Africa, middle East, some parts of Australia, you require a coolant with less than 50/50 mix, more of 30% glycol and 70% distilled water.

You don't need your engine to be hot at night since we rarely have winter.

2) There are different types of coolants
a) in Organic - doesn't contain ethylene glycol, used for older vehicles
b) Organic - has ethylene glycol, additives and distilled water
c) Hybrid - has propylene glycol, additives, some concentrate and distilled water

3) colours on coolants are majorly to identify when there is a leak or a spill, so it can be easily spotted reason for it being coloured. If it's translucent you have to start smelling or touching to check it's coolant and not any other thing.

Though the three major colours are also used to differentiate between grades.
Greenish yellow - In-organic
Red - Organic
Pink - Organic
Green - Organic
Blue - Hybrid

4) Car manufacturers require a specific grade of coolant in their vehicles for optimum performance.

5) There are a lot of fake coolants littering the Nigerian market, but coolants worthy of note and prepared to the specified requirements by SON are hacops radiator coolant and total coolant. In addition forte oil coolant.

6) there are ways to check if a coolant is good, majorly by checking it's meg content or by checking it's pH and also by checking using a specific gravity device.

Hacops Radiator coolant was given an award by institute of oil and gas for best coolant in Nigeria 2018 and 2020.

Try any of the mentioned coolants and have rest of mind

Car Talk / Re: My Car Is Killing Me. Please Help Me Before It Finishes Me. by novexme(m): 11:55am On Sep 08, 2021
Mskrisx:
Good evening everyone.
Please I bought my car about a month now. (Toks)
As I was bringing it in, I didn’t know the car was overheating and it burnt my gasket. I fixed it in agony.
Now just today, after parking it for 9 days I called the mechanic who told me I had to change the 4 coils, plugs and do a fresh servicing. I did all this and even bought two new gallons of coolant. Dear people, do you know that after an hour of all this, I tried to test drive , just along the way I noticed the car was over heating then I Tried to look for a little safe place And park. I opened my engine bay and noticed that gasket is burnt again! All my money down the drain! The stress, the agony, the everything. I’m so so sad! Trying really to be strong. Please people, what can I do? Now the car won’t start and I had to pay a towing van to tow it. Sorry about my grammar. My heart is just too heavy. Thanks. Any opinion is welcome.

@Mskrisx
Judging from your complaint, it is clear there are underlying issues with the car.

Let your mechanic check the water pump, remove the radiator and also take it for steam washing. It might be clogged by corrosion. Also the radiator fins could be bent or closed which wouldn't allow for good air flow.

Also check for leakages from the radiator and it's connections.

Let a rewire check your fan, it probably isn't blowing enough or it's blowing in the wrong direction.

Also check your temp sensor and thermostat if it's working.

After doing all this make sure to use a good coolant, not just any coolant. Many out there are just colouring. A good coolant would prevent rust, corrosion and engine overheating.

Don't be fooled by imported or colour. Google about the coolant you are buying.

A good radiator coolant would help you drive at least 2km before your gasket burns out.

I would recommend you use Hacops Radiator coolant or Total Radiator coolant.

Those are the best out there for our climate.

Do this and thank me later.

Benefits of Using Aeration Pumps

Why Your Pond Needs An Air Pump?

The One Accessory You Should Buy. If you’re not using an air pump on your pond, you probably don’t realize what a big risk you are taking and benefits you are missing.

It’s amazing how many fish farmers up to this day have yet to discover the benefits of an air pump.
Pond Aeration “Aeration” in one word, sums up the reason why your pond needs an air pump.
Pond aeration is as essential to ponds as air, particularly oxygen, is essential for us to live.

In lakes and ponds, not only fish are dependent on dissolved oxygen (DO) supply in the water. Many other organisms in the water also depend on it to function well and survive.
A shortage of oxygen opens a Pandora’s Box of problems to your pond’s water quality and clarity, which can rapidly escalate to fish deaths sooner than you expect.
So unless you are willing to take the risk of suffering the consequences from poor pond aeration, a pond air pump is a must.

Don’t Ponds Get Naturally Aerated?

Ponds get naturally aerated, but not adequately. Unlike mountain streams or raging rivers that have higher DO levels, the comparatively still waters in ponds don’t get additional aeration benefit from energised water movement.
In addition, air contains only about 20% oxygen. So even if oxygen diffused from the atmosphere dissolves passively into the water, the amount is far too low to be sufficient.
To make matters even worse, several factors further decrease the level of DO in the water.

Some of them are:
Rising temperature – the demand for oxygen rises as temperature goes up due to increased metabolic rates of fish and other aquatic life.

Fish population and size – the more fish you have in the pond, and the bigger they are, the more oxygen is used up.

Decomposing organic matter – fish and animal wastes, fertiliser run-offs dead leaves, etc make up organic matter in the pond that requires a lot of oxygen to decompose.

Submerged plants and algae – these take in oxygen in the night, which contributes to the drop of oxygen levels after sun down.

Oxygen consuming bacteria – oxygen is required by aerobic bacteria in order to efficiently breakdown nutrients and toxic substances, like ammonia.
The more nutrients and organic wastes are in the water, the more oxygen is consumed by these bacteria.

Presence of other water solutes and use of treatment products reduce DO.

Given these facts, it’s just logical to conclude that ponds need additional help to keep topping-up their exhausted dissolved oxygen supplies.

However, some unconvinced pond owners argue that their ponds have been problem-free even without using pond aerators.

Maybe so, but as your pond gets older, more organic sediments accumulate, fish get bigger and aerobic bacteria multiply.

Increased demand of oxygen soon takes a serious toll on your water’s oxygen levels and it is just a matter of time before problems surface up.

Why Air Pumps and Not Any Other Pond Aerators:

There are different sorts of pond aerators available to address pond aeration. However, tests show that pond air pumps are most efficient in diffusing sufficient oxygen throughout the body of water and not only on the surface.
Because pond air pumps rely on air movement to oxygenate, the rate of oxygen diffused is relatively higher than other pond aerators that rely on water movement, like waterfalls and venturis.

So with efficient pond or lake aerators, you can be certain to get the following benefits:

Prevention of fish death due to oxygen depletion.

Keep useful aerobic bacteria active.

Promote the break-down of toxic substances in the water, like ammonia and nitrite.

Stop the release of toxic gases due to lack of oxygen.

Avoid rotten egg smell coming out of your pond caused by production of toxic gases.

Inhibit the growth of unsightly algae.

Help maintain clear water.

Raised oxygen levels in filters resulting to improved filter performance. Mainly for recirculatory systems.

Healthier Fish.

Will Any Type of Air Pump Do?

Not any kind of pond air pump will guarantee you the above benefits. To get the most out of a pond air pump, it is extremely important to choose the right size and quality. To find out what size of air pump will be efficient enough for your pond, calculate how many litres your pond has and calculate the size of air pump needed.

In terms of quality, just like you can’t expect the perks of a Rolls Royce from a Kia, so you can’t expect to gain equal advantages from different types of air pumps. If the “Rolls Royce” of air pumps at a reasonable price is what you want, then Resun Air Pumps are the best pond aerators for you.

These are “THE” top of the line pond air pumps used for many years in fish ponds and earthen ponds for their high performance, reliability, energy efficiency and ultra silent operation.

This air pump comes complete with additional Accessories added by us to make Installation hassle free and easily outperforms conventional air pumps.

He had brainwashed a lot of easterners, seduced and induced by a woman for what he seeks, shows his kind of person.

He was busy enjoying his life while many were dying for his cause.

Dpsychologist:
Contrary to popular belief it is not the water that directly produces Electricity.

Electricity is produced by a device called a turbine. Turbines contain metal coils surrounded by magnets. When the magnets spin over the metal coils, electricity is produced. Turbines are located inside dams. The falling water spins the magnets.

Thus, the water only spin the turbines which in turn generates electricity.

Cc
Lalasticlala

You are right but at the same time wrong in your dissertation, kainji dam is powered by water, it utilizes hydro power to generate electricity, that's why it's called and an hydro electric dam.

All dams that generates electricity are powered by water. Without water they can't generate electricity. It's below capacity and needs to be upgraded, that's why the mambila plateau dam is in the works because it's bigger.

And also has a higher potential to generate more electricity due to its location, turbines installed and commissioned would determine its output.

All the same I think Nigeria has a enough resources to generate enough power including nuclear generated electricity.

My own 4cents though

Good Governance.

Slow and steady we are getting to a sane society.

God bless Sanwo-Olu.

God bless Lagos State.

God bless Nigeria.

From one good and positive news to another.
Our darling country will surely get there soon.
A better Nigeria is all we want and hope for.
We thank God we are making progress compared to the 16 years of failure and looting.

Some negative souls will always be pained with any news about progress for our darling country.
May that pain always live with them as long as they keep hoping for bad news for Nigeria.

More for them below.......

I HATE TRAINS.
I HATE BRIDGES.
I HATE RICE.
I HATE TALLEST BUILDING EAST OF THE NIGER

Let me give the background to this piece. I was reading some comments on Twitter early in the week, when I ran into this one by one Dr Ben Gbenro: “Why are some people allergic to good news about Nigeria? You are angry about the test-run of Lagos-Ibadan rail, you are angry about the development in Onne Port, but will eagerly amplify any negative news even if it’s not true. Something is wrong with you and I am here to tell you.”

Of course, that comment generated responses, both positive and negative. But the one that caught my fancy specially was by Ayekooto, who declared: “We have got to a stage when GMB achievements can no longer be denied but hated. I hate trains. I hate bridges. I hate rice.”

Very profound. A lot of people can no longer deny the many achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly in the area of infrastructure, building a new Nigeria, and so, they have decided to hate it. Sad. Very sad.

Nobody can deny that there are very serious challenges in the country, particularly in the areas of security, the economy, and standard of living generally. But that is not all there is to Nigeria of today, and those challenges are being addressed very robustly. That hymn says “behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face. His purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour.” We will surely see an end to the challenges, if we all work together, and eschew hate speeches.

Why then do some people choose to see and amplify only negative things? Why do they choose to remain willfully blind and deaf to positive things? And surrounded and confronted by salutary developments, they keep repeating; what has the Buhari administration achieved? Show us.

You tell them that just last weekend, there was a test run of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project, with brand new coaches that will begin commercial operation before the end of the year. That is happening in a country where we were told we couldn’t afford new coaches when our oil was selling at over 100 dollars per barrel. Now, at about 40 dollars per barrel, we are launching new coaches. Instead of giving credit to a prudent government, they just say; I hate trains.

Okay, if you hate trains, what of brand new airports in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, and others in the works? There was a time we were said to parade the worst airports in the world. But not any longer. Buhari reversed it in his four years. What do they say about that? They look up, look down, scratch their heads, and say; I hate airports. I’ve never even boarded a plane in my life, and I don’t want to board. Will I ever enter a plane if I’d been killed by bandits?

Okay. You hate airports and planes. What of bridges being built over rivers in different parts of the country, most especially the Second River Niger Bridge, which the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) built with mouth for 16 years. You tell them that the bridge is almost 50% done, and should be completed in the first quarter of 2022. There’s also the Loko-Oweto Bridge, linking Benue and Nasarawa States. It was started by a previous administration, but almost completed now. Like a cornered rat, their eyes dart furtively from corner to corner, seeking a hole to enter. Finding none, they tell you deadpan: I hate bridges.

Okay. All those are physical structures. So they want stomach infrastructure. You then tell them of the rice revolution, which has freed us from being a net importer of the product in the world. You point out that if Buhari hadn’t put his money where his mouth was, and encouraged us to go back to the land, causing rice farmers to rise from six to 12 million, we would have been in serious trouble when COVID-19 struck. How would we have imported rice, with all international borders closed, and no foreign exchange to even place orders? They pat their tummies gingerly, belch after a hearty meal, and then declare: I hate rice.

A Cancer Centre has been built and commissioned by President Buhari at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). An ultra-modern diagnostic center also built and commissioned in Kano. And just this week, another diagnostic centre built at a cost of $5.5 million, was commissioned at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, in Abia State. What do they say of all these? “I hate hospitals. May I never need to use any diagnostic centre. It is not my portion.”

You join them to say amen, since you don’t have a hateful heart. And you remind them that the largest ever vessel in the country, Maerskline Stadelhorn, with a length of 300 meters and width of 48 meters, berthed few days ago at Onne Port, in Rivers State. That is the biggest ever container vessel to berth in any part of Nigeria. Onne people were delirious with joy, and praised the government to high heavens, because no vessel had come to their port for 12 years, till August last year, under Buhari. You tell the naysayers the positive economic implications, but they refuse to listen. They dive under water, shouting as they go: We hate container vessels.

You then take them to Yenagoa, in Bayelsa State. Just last week, the skyline of South-south and South-East was transformed, as President Buhari commissioned the tallest Federal Government structure in the region, the 17-story Nigerian Content Tower, Headquarters of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

The architectural masterpiece occupies an area equivalent to four football fields, and has a 1,000 seater conference centre plus a 10 MW power plant. Started in late 2015, now completed, all under Buhari. Engineer Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary of the agency paid tribute to the resolve, determination and encouragement of the President, that saw the structure to completion in record time. And Wabote, third E.S of NCDMB in its 10 years history, has written his name in gold. Just because he has a supportive President.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylvia, under whose tenure as Bayelsa State Governor the land was allocated for the project, declared: “The commissioning of this building is symbolic in many ways. It shows that Mr President is keen to see infrastructural development in every part of the country...It shows that skyscrapers and other laudable infrastructure can be built in the Niger Delta.”

But they say Buhari hasn’t achieved anything. You show them the 17-story building, and as they gaze skyward, their caps and headgear fall off. You pick the cap and headgear, dust and hand them back. And you ask, brothers and sisters, how now? Rather than admit defeat, they pull the caps and headgear over their eyes, and grumbled: We hate skyscrapers. They make us dizzy.

At that point, you pity them.
You realize that they need prayers.
They hate everything good.
They hate anything uplifting.
They hate development.
They hate their country.
They even hate themselves.

Again,
Don't forget to Quote us if you are one of the toothpicks arms lazy mofos.

No be only aids, na staphylococcus, cheesy wink
And these are the kinda kids calling their president names.
What a shame!! tongue tongue

Very soon they would hate the air they breath.
