KENYANS should help out here. One thing i have observed with Kenyan cities is that it is just between the rich who live in very developed areas and the very poor masses in slum areas. Pls, we want to see the areas where the average and lower middle income Nairobians and Mombasa people live cos you guys can't tell us that they all live in the expensive city centres. In Lagos state for instance, you have Victoria island, Banana island, Lagos island, Ikoyi, Ajah, Lekki, Ikeja e.t.c mostly for the rich and high middle class people. You have Yaba, Festac, Maryland, Ilupeju, Apapa, Gbagada, Anthony, Ikorodu, Surulere, Iyana-ipaja e.t.c mostly for the high, average and fewer low middle class people. While you have the likes of Mushin, Ajegunle, Bariga, Shomolu, Agege e.t.c mostly for the poor and few low middle class people. Okay, let Kenyans here help to list the names and show us the average and low middle income areas of Nairobi and Mombasa (excluding the slums). If not, this will further prove that Nairobi is divided only btw the rich and poor and will further butress the reason why Nairobi slums are large. I will also be ready to show the average, lower middle income and even poor areas of Lagos state. Any Kenyans up for the challenge? TayserMahiri, mtis, Jay254, Kenyanstar, MtuMsuper, Muafrika2, gallivant |
TayserMahiri:Pls search harder and show us many and not just one. Pictures and links would be of greater use. |
fanficgirl:Seriously, this thing has eaten up Edo state too much and i wonder if there can ever be a reverse. It is declining gradually because most desperate edo youths will now prefer to go into yahoo instead of those illegal journeys. |
Kenyanstar:Tourism is one of the biggest sources of income for your country, so it is natural for your govt to spend more cash on buildings and infrastructures with a better aesthetic appeal. Nigeria is not a tourism oriented country, so don't expect our buildings/infrastructures and yours to be of an equal aesthetic appeal. That in no way does not mean you guys have better infrastructures. Los Angeles is far more beautiful with an aesthetic appeal and tourism orientation than New york, but that does not stop New york from being the financial centre of the USA. It also does not mean that LA has more infrastructures than New york. |
TayserMahiri:There is no acceptance. How many Indians would be willing to marry a black African? Self pretending racists! This was why i dared you or any other Kenyan to show us wedding ceremonies in Kenya between Kenyan blacks and Kenyan indians. Intermarriage to a larger extent is a criteria used to judge if people are truly ready to integrate, accept or tolerate one another. A random Indian girl flying a Kenyan flag isn't. |
TayserMahiri:Southern Nigerians are the kind of people who do not tolerate poverty unlike we Northern Nigerians and Kenyans too. That's why you can see them almost willing to do anything for money. It has actually paid of to them. They are far richer than us. Check Southern Nigerian states and see how wealthy they are. Infact, we are the ones who seem to be dragging them backwards. This is the price for being adventurous! Most Kenyans can tolerate poverty! But Nigerians always want the best and never settle for less! |
Kenyanstar:See, Nigeria is very populated. It's the same reason the chinese are being deported in African countries. It's the same reason why Indonesians, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Fillipinos still flock to Gulf arab nations as domestic workers irrespective of the inhuman treatment being meted out to them by their Arab masters. Small countries will just not understand this. It's a natural problem with large developing countries. |
mtis:The argument was not based on being Nigerian or not, but being Lagosian. Get the details of an argument before intruding. |
TayserMahiri:Liveable for the few rich who can afford the main city costs and unliveable for the majority of the city's population in the slums. If this is what makes a city liveable then sorry i'll pass. |
Kenyanstar:80% of Nigerians who migrate to Europe through the deserts or meditarranean are not Lagosians. They are mostly from Edo state. It has become like a culture to them. |
obaaderemi:No pls, in countries like Kenya, poverty is more urban i think because their govt hardly plans for the poor masses in the cities. 60% of Nairobians live in slums and that is majority poverty. Kenya's largest cities and financial centres Nairobi and Mombasa are poorer in per capital incomes than the national average. |
fanficgirl:Pls dont just burst into an argument without understanding the underlying details. Go back and see the person he quoted and why i quoted him. Shaytun was trying to make the guy i quoted to understand why Africans need to be united and stop bragging about our little achievements, but the Kenyan guy refused. Now, tell me if my reply is out of place to the guys reaction. |
Jay254:Pls dont just utter rubbish words. Back them with verified proofs and links! I am not the one who made this write up or monetary estimate. It was from the world bank! https://asokoinsight.com/news/nairobi-ranked-8th-on-world-bank-list-of-rich-poor-counties-kenya |
TayserMahiri:Why are you Kenyans running away from this question? Why are Nairobi and Mombasa (the largest financial centres of Kenya) poorer than the National average? If you check the per capital incomes of Nigerian financial cities like Lagos, PH, Ibadan, Anambra, Kano e.t.c you will observe that they are far richer than the national average! The same thing with American, South African, Japanese and other cities all over the world. Why is Kenya the only exception? |
Jay254:Can't you see your myopic mentality? How many highrises are in London? London built it's first highrise in 2011, yet it's still one of the financial capitals of the world. Besides, you obviously have not seen the full plan of Eko atlantic. Those 7 roundish highrises you see are just in one district of the city. There are about 13 districts with different highrise style patterns. |
TayserMahiri:Eko atlantic is generating it's own power. Go there and see if you will not see power. |
Jay254:Of course, this is the reason why Kenya's largest cities have a very low per capital income. Few rich people in the developed high cost areas and the languishing majority masses in the slums. Your Country is an embarrassment. How can the largest cities and finacial centres which are supposed to be richer instead be poorer than the national average? I just cannot fanthom this!
|
TayserMahiri:Konza city is still a dream but Eko atlantic is becoming a fast reality. All world agencies agree that Eko atlantic would be the new financial capital of Africa and Lagos state has received several global awards and recognitions to this fact. Hope you know that Lagos state is estimated to be richer than the entire South Africa in some years from now? Very soon the rank of the largest economies in Subsaharan Africa would be 1. Nigeria 2. Lagos state (Nigeria) 3. South Africa 4. Rivers state (Nigeria) 5. Abuja (FCT Nigeria) Before Kenya and the rest will start coming in. ![]() |
Jay254:Hahaha, there are enough Naija men to go round. A Nigerian Agbani Darego the first Black woman to win miss world got married to a Nigerian from a billionaire's family. Leila Lopez the 1st black woman to win miss universe from Angola/Cape verde is also married to another rich Nigerian. Can u see that we are capable? ![]() We are not in the same league with you local players. |
DonnieTheGreat:Hahahaha bro. Let Naija guys keep on flying the flag and repping. I have observed that Naija men are the dopest in Africa. Most men from other African countries really play very very local. They are just like the way we were 25 years ago. ![]() That's why when most of these other women meet with Naija guys, they are swept off and knocked out. ![]() This is why you see Naija men knocking, dating and marrying the most beautiful women from other African countries while other African men play very local. |
Jay254:As beautiful as Mombasa looks, look at the GDP per capital below, less than $1,000 and below the national average. This shows that there is another large part of Mombasa with poorer masses (reducing the per capital income) which you are not showing us. Go and check the GDP per capital of PH city and you will faint. That city should even have a higher or equal per capital income with Lagos, just that Lagos has more people with louder voices.
|
mtis:It's very obvious that Kenyans are very proud of their little achievements. What should the Koreans, Japanese, Malaysians, Americans and others now do? |
mtis:In Nigeria we are also building/working on building Abuja centenary city, PH rainbow town, Lagos Orange island, Lagos smart city, Lekki city (first phase already completed), Enugu centenary city, Kano master city and others. Eko atlantic is not the only one. You can check these places out. |
PissedYagami:Ok, we will agree that Indians in Kenya are Kenyans, but pls can you show us wedding ceremonies that has taken place btw Black Kenyans and Indian Kenyans? As terribly divided as Nigerian muslim north and christian south is, we regularly record inter religious and inter ethnic marriages. Even South Africa with their bitter history of racial division, interracial and inter ethnic marriages btw the whites, coloureds, Indians and blacks occur. So pls you guys should show us intermarriages btw Black Kenyans and Indian kenyans! Or forever keep shut! |
Jay254:Pls stop this expensive Joke, Nairobi metropolitan area was estimated to be 6.5 m people 8 years ago (2009) Now it should be around 8-10 million people. So Lagos metro is less than thrice of Nairobi. Maybe twice. |
Marcelo290:Yes, but if you want to live in Core-northern cities like Kano, Gombe, Maiduguri, best ensure that you live in the high brow areas where the educated ones live. You will hardly have any problems with these places. While as for Places like Kaduna and Jos, as long as you are in the predominantly christian areas, there is no fear. Yes, food is far too cheap in the north, because it is farmed everywhere. Some people even give their neighbours freely because almost everyone farms or has relatives who farm. |
This is long overdue. Plateau and Taraba states Simon Lalong and Darius Ishaku pls what are you fools waiting for? |
jiorhemen:Ok you have a point. |
NwamaziNwaAro:Why must you say rubbish? |
PissedYagami:These places are not within Abuja municipality and are at the outskirts. They are not even part of the 5 suburban districts of Abuja. Read your story well, even at that, all these places have been marked for demolition as illegal settlements. |
Marcelo290:Only Lagos and Abuja can beat Kano in number of millionaires who live in the city, i don't think PH can. There are many industries in Kano and the infrastructure is wow. Same thing with Kaduna and Zaria. That's why you see Kano and Kaduna has lower poverty and higher literacy rates than other core-northern states. Core-northerners seem to develop with urbanization from what i have observed. Gombe is just beautiful because the governor is just very amazing. If you go to Gombe city, you will know that many Nigerian governors are just very wicked and greedy. Gombe state receives one of the lowest allocations in Nigeria and the state was just created in 1996, so they don't have any large financial city centre which we could have said generates them a large internal revenue. Yet Gombe has some of the best schools, roads, hospitals in Nigeria. If Gombe continues like this, they will have the highest literacy rate and best literates in the future among all Northern states. |
Jay254:Are you nuts? How can Nairobi where 60% of the people live in slums be better than Lagos? Do you know that the entire Abuja urban area of over 3 million people has no single slum? Abuja municipality (main Abuja city) is 2 times bigger than your Nairobi city and it has less population. Do you think Nairobi is more green than Abuja? There are no industries in Abuja, to show you how unpolluted the city is, and gardens are everywhere in Abuja, even on the streets. Have you heard of Nigeria's Calabar city? Ppl are arrested for littering the city. The city is very very green and well planned as it was once the colonial capital of Nigeria. |
