Very true, but don't you think, not having this mentality also has it's drawbacks? because if the people are poor, they will still be willing to do anything to make wealth or at least they will be available for easy manipulation by those who have the wealth, just as you can see in Core-northern Nigeria where the rich few manipulate the poor masses?

The quest to get rich in Nigeria is real, the society we find ourselves have made it even worst, our girls here would hardly date you if you don't bring anything to the table or without any vision to do so in the near future, reason why we Nigerians are known for hardwork, if not for anything, at least to impress people. Major Reason why we go to other countries and overthrown them or control their economy, because we see opportunities where they see none, and even if they are none, we create one!

Hmm, this mentality is really here to stay and it is growing tougher i must say, as it is spreading all over Nigeria. But don't you think we will suffer the negative effects of this character? Our international image is at stake as our people have become famous for all manners of crimes world wide.
I think the Igbo society especially and all Southernerns need to place less emphasis on this 'i must succeed mentality'. The southern Nigerian society is centred around wealth too much. The traditional and religious institutions emphasizes on it too much without educating people on the consequences.

Take we from the North-central or middlebelt for instance, yes we are poorer than the South on average, but the margin is not too wide compared to the Core-north.
Statistics have shown that poverty rates have been reducing in our region over the years just like the Southern regions, but most of our people still do not believe in engaging in criminal activities to get wealth. You hardly find our people involved in criminal activities to get wealth compared to the south. Most of us still believe in contentment and appreciating God wherever you find yourself, hoping and working harder for a better way out. Our religious and traditional institutions do not emphasize on 'must succeed mentality' too much and will always remind you of the negative effects.
Trust is still very strong among our people and in our society, but trust has died among most southernerns, most of them no longer trust each other.

This has to reduce, if not our children will pay for these things in the future.
As long as people get more education, poverty will always reduce irrespective of 'i must succeed mentality' or not. This is the major difference between Core-northernerns and middlebelters. EDUCATION.

You can never compare Nigerians in other countries to these Nigeriens. Nigerians wherever they are add to the economy of the place they find themselves either by education, trade or even 'illegal activities'. Nigerians are educated.
You cannot compare us to these beggars.
There are togolese, beninoise, ghanaians and cameroonians in Nigeria too, but they can never be compared to Nigeriens.
Nigeria is already facing a very big problem with the core-northern Nigerians who practice a similar culture with these Nigeriens, we are still yet to manage that, not to talk of more Nigeriens coming in to add to our problems.

The natural rescources in Congo is estimated to be worth the entire wealth of the USA.
The country has human rescource too with a large population.

Niger republic is really a failed state, they contribute little or nothing to our economy, you see them in all the nooks and crannies of every city begging, each time I go to the market, I'm always careful not to pass them, because they would drag you by your cloth and if you ain't careful, you would empty your wallet on them out of pity, the ones that manage to work do menial jobs to make ends meet, these people have really made me value my Nigerian citizenship as I watch how they suffer, living their lives in the streets... I think it is hightime Southern and middlebelt Nigerians unite with one voice and say enough is enough to this rubbish!
Our parents suffer to send us to schools and we also put in our own efforts too and send our children to schools, we are working very hard to make progress irrespective of the failures of our govt, but these core northerners keep making our hardwork fruitless. These people have a very backward culture that is anti-progressive.
To be sincere, there is really no way we can stop these Nigèriens from coming in as long as most core-northern Nigerians are illiterates and no different from these Nigèriens.

We just have to keep on carrying these people along as a burden and keep on developing our ownselves, maybe as time goes on, they will gradually keep on changing and becoming affected with a positive and progressive mindset as most of them migrate down south due to the greater wealth in the South, but this will take us some terrible deal of time and patience.
Greater wealth will always attract neighbours and be more influential. This would be the passive way out.

The active way out as i said earlier is for the Southern and middlebelt youths and people who have a progressive culture to unite and pressure Core-northern leaders to change, liberate their masses and join the train of progress.

They are very well up to that.
You just don't know them that's why. Many of them even naturalize as Nigerian citizens in the core-north. They are in their millions in Nigeria, just that they are culturally the same with core-northernerns and can easily camouflage as Hausa-fulanis and Kanuris.

Ghanaians, Togolese and Beninoise are not a problem to Nigeria because most of them are at least educated to an extent and they are productive in Nigeria (no matter how little), and they are still quite fewer.

Nigeriens in Nigeria can be as much as 5 million or more and to worsen the situation, most of them are beggars here, adding nothing to Nigeria.

With the lowest HDI, the lowest income per capital, the highest infant and maternal mortality rate, the lowest literacy rate, every ranking in this world, they always come last. And the worst thing is that they are not improving or making any progress.

Togolese and Beninoise are far better than Nigeriens because they don't come to beg in Nigeria. They come to engage in some menial jobs e.g cooks, housemaids e.t.c
They usually have some level of education and you can never find them living on the streets.
Nigeriens are an exact opposite. Majority of them are beggars in Nigeria.

There are millions of people from Niger republic all over Nigeria.

Most of these Nigeriens come to beg in Nigeria, many of them have nowhere to stay and live on the streets, now, why won't Nigeria have a lower HDI?

Seriously, what are we Nigerians going to do about these people from Niger republic? Niger repiblic is a failed nation and the poorest on earth and they have turned Nigeria to their refuge.

Many Southern Nigerians are not aware of this menace because most Southern Nigerians cannot differentiate Nigerièns from Core-northern Nigerians due to similarity in culture and the fact that most Nigerièns speak Hausa.

Almost 50% or more of the abokiis you see in your streets changing dollars, doing maigard, pushing wheelbarrow, picking metal craps, shoe shinning and begging in the South are not Nigerians, they are from Niger republic. Also, of recently, Malians have started coming in too.

As long as these people keep on trooping into Nigeria, no matter how we make progress, our Human development index will always be low. Core-northern Nigeria is already dragging Nigeria backwards on their own, we are trying to manage them and more people from Niger republic are still trooping in.

Nigeria is surrounded by 4 francophone nations, yet we still do not take french seriously.

yes we study english also in middle and high school ( with berber and local language, we have arabic 1st language , french 2nd language , english 3rd ) , Literary section also have German to study . but its thanks to films music and forum like this one that i try to rise a little my level

We really do not value other international languages as such, i guess this is probably because we speak English which is the most influential international language.
