There’s this Muslim lady in my PG class I used to say Salam to, there aren’t many Muslims in my class so its natural that I should accord her certain regard, after a while she just started acting up and forming a straight face whenever am around. OP, even if the girl's dad didn't curse him he may still have problems in an economical tough country like Nigeria especially if he's a superstitious person.
If he truly loves the girl I'll advice that he becomes a Muslim. That way he'll get the girl, the girl's parent will forgive and love him and he'll also achieve salvation.
May Allah be his guide.
