Politics / Washington Times Slams Buhari Over Dasuki by nwanwaoge(m): 7:29pm On Nov 22, 2015
A Washington Times report has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over the current ordeal of former National Security Adviser Col.Sambo Dasuki (rtd) who had been under house arrest since November 4, despite a subsisting court order which granted him permission to embark on a medical trip abroad.

Dasuki who was former President Goodluck Jonathan’s National Security Adviser and served briefly in that capacity under the current government, is currently standing trial on a two-count charge of money laundering and illegal possession of firearms before a  Federal High Court in Abuja. The court however granted the former NSA, who had been on bail, permission to embark on a medical trip abroad. Operatives of the DSS however continued to lay siege to his residence thereby frustrating his travel plans.

Penultimate week, Dasuki returned to court  to report the government for refusing to allow him enforce his fundamental human rights. The Federal High Court consequently  reaffirmed its order allowing him to travel abroad for medical attention and ordered the DSS to vacate his residence – an order which the department had yet to comply with, insisting that the former NSA has questions to answer about a $2billion arms deal.

The US newspaper report  titled ‘Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Dupes the US’, slammed the President for  “uttering time-worn democracy vows” during his visit to the US, where he promised “to combat graft with procedures that would be “fair, just, and scrupulously follow due process and the rule of law, as enshrined in our constitution.”

It said, “After celebrating fairness, due process, and the rule of law last July to win the goodwill of the United States, Mr. Buhari returned to Nigeria to mock all three in a vendetta against  Dasuki, the immediate past National Security Adviser.

“He placed Mr. Dasuki under house arrest. He confiscated his passport. He charged him with firearms and money laundering violations. He sought a secret trial to prevent independent scrutiny.

“He opposed Mr. Dasuki’s pretrial application to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for permission to receive urgent medical treatment for cancer in London, but it was nonetheless granted.

“Justice Adeniyi Ademola explained that an accused is presumed innocent before trial, and that a citizen’s health is paramount before the law. Mr. Buhari was ordered to release Mr. Dasuki’s international passport.

“Mr. Buhari defied the order. He put Mr. Dasuki’s house under siege, a microcosm of the Bosnian Serb siege of Sarajevo. Mr. Dasuki returned to court. Justice Ademola reaffirmed his order, asserting “My own orders will not be flouted.”

“Mr. Buhari has not yet budged. As a military dictator in 1985, he similarly seized the international passport of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to thwart his travel for medical treatment, which caused his death in 1987. The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

Calling Dasuki’s situation an “ongoing persecution,” the Washington Times report noted disparagingly that “Members of Nigeria’s National Assembly and Senate have been reduced to playing the roles of extras in cinematic extravaganzas.”

Recalling some of the low points of the Buhari military regime in the ‘80s, the newspaper report said the era “was earmarked by chilling human rights abuses,” which it said included, “draconian edicts, exemplified by Decree 20 under which the judicial murders of Nigerian citizens Lawal Ojuolape, Bernard Ogedengbe, and Bartholomew Owoh were authorised.”

It noted that Ogedengbe was executed for a crime that did not carry the death penalty at the time it was committed in violation of the universal revulsion of EXpost facto laws.

Quoting Nobel Prize laureate Wole Soyinka, it said “these crimes were executed in defiance of pleas from virtually every sector of Nigeria and the international community—a grisly precedent for subsequent dictator Sani Abacha’s hanging of Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa in contempt of international opinion.”

It further noted that  Buhari’s brutal military dictatorship was overthrown in 1985, adding, “Mr. Dasuki played a key role. Dictators do not forget. Fast forward to today.”

Arguing that much is riding on Dasuki’s case, it said “if Mr. Buhari flouts Justice Ademola’s order with impunity, judicial independence will be fatally compromised and Nigeria’s embryonic democratic dispensation will be stillborn,” adding,  “The judiciary is the only branch capable of checking limitless executive power—the bane of Africa.”

It also said such actions could work against peaceful transfer of political power on the continent as incumbents would be afraid of being persecuted by their successors.

“President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration accepted a peaceful transfer of power to President Buhari, a laudable landmark in African politics. If Mr. Buhari is permitted with impunity to destroy his political opponents like Mr. Dasuki with tyrannical methods, peaceful transfers of power everywhere on the Continent will become problematic. The incumbents’ risk of political and personal impalement at the hands of their would-be successors will be too high.”

The report called on the United States to insist on independent human rights observers to monitor Dasuki’s prosecution and trial, and a demand that President Buhari honours his vow to follow due process and the rule of law.
“The stakes are too high to remain silent,” it added.

Politics / Arms Deals: Fresh Controversy Over $1b Loan Approved For Jonathan by nwanwaoge(m): 6:37pm On Nov 22, 2015
More questions may be awaiting  former President Goodluck Jonathan on arms deals during his tenure after his weekend denial in Washington DC that he never incurred a bill of  $2 billion on arms procurement. This includes the whereabouts of the over $1billion loan approved for him by the 7th National Assembly for arms purchase to fight the Boko Haram insurgency.
It was unclear last night whether the loan was accessed by the administration before the expiration of its tenure on May 29.

His loyalists claimed yesterday that the money was not made available before he left office.

There were suggestions that the Special Investigative Panel on arms procurement may be asked to establish the truth about the loan.

More military officers, ex-ministers and arms contractors may be invited for clarifications, it was gathered.

Jonathan returned to Abuja from the USA on Friday with his ex-members said to be regrouping to defend arms deals during his presidency and other allegations against the administration.

Jonathan had on July 16, 2014, written to the 7th National Assembly for the approval of a $1 billion loan for the fight against Boko Haram.

The ex- President said he needed the cash to upgrade military equipment and for training as well as logistics for the Armed Forces.

Jonathan made the request in a letter entitled: “Tackling ongoing security challenges: The need for urgent action.”

On September 25, 2014, the Senate approved the loan following the submission of the report of the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and that of Local and Foreign Debt by the Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

A reliable source, who spoke in confidence, said: “In spite of the submission of Interim Report, the ongoing probe of the arms deal is continuing. One of the areas being looked into is what became of the $1billion loan approved for Jonathan by the 7th Senate.

“Actually, the loan was approved going by the records made available to the probe panel. So, if the panel is talking of $2billion, it must have been based on records in its care.

“This development may lead to the invitation of some ex-ministers to clarify the status of the loan and whether or not it was diverted to other use.”

But a former Minister said: “Initially, the vote was about $900m but the leadership of the 7th Senate advised the Executive to ask for $1billion to accommodate unexpected financial challenges in fighting Boko Haram.

“The Ministry of Finance ought to write letters to those advancing the loan and those companies supplying the arms on how the government will remit the funds.

“We however did not get the $1billion loan because the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, did not sign necessary papers as a result of the inability of her office to receive the required votes and proceedings from the National Assembly.”

Ex-President Jonathan returned to Abuja on Friday with his erstwhile cabinet members regrouping on how to defend their tenure.

A highly-placed source said: “We have resolved to respond to any issue raised by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on facts and figures.

“Ex-President Jonathan has started it in the US, we will no longer keep quiet because the stigmatization is increasingly becoming unbearable.

“We will not confront Buhari government but we will be replying on points of records.”

Embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, was said to have written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for more time to appear for grilling over the arms deals.

The letter was submitted to EFCC on Friday by Dasuki’s counsel.

A source in EFCC said: “We have received Dasuki’s letter, we will get back to him accordingly.

“If after Monday, he continues to evade appearance before this commission, we will have no choice than to obtain a warrant of arrest from a court to pick him.

“We have tried our best to be civil and handle the case in line with international best practices

Politics / Revealed: Abiola Ajimobi Instigated His Colleagues To Stop The Payment Of N18,00 by nwanwaoge(m): 6:27pm On Nov 22, 2015
Nigerian governors recently announced that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage to workers in their respective states. The reason given by them is the dwindling revenue allocation they each now receive from the federal government.
In March 2011, the N18,000 minimum wage was signed to law by the former president Goodluck Jonathan. During this period, the nation was experiencing was can be termed as “Oil Boom” as a barrel of oil was sold at $126 unlike recently when the same is being sold at $41. This has resulted to reduced allocation from the Federal Government to the states.
Most of the states apparently were not prepared for this, so they were caught off guard by this harsh reality and they went broke. Many states could not pay workers salaries for months, states like Osun, Ebonyi, Benue, Plateau and Oyo were mostly hit by this reality. At a point in time, these states were owing their workers up to nine months
salaries. The Federal Government via the Central Bank came to the rescue of the states through bail-out funds, it was until then that most could pay parts of their workers’ salaries.
However, it has been revealed by a reliable source that Governor Abiola Ajimobi instigated his colleagues to agree that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage.
Governor Ajimobi is the Governor of Oyo state, one of the biggest and most populous states in Nigeria, in fact, Oyo state is the biggest state in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. Workers in the state are currently being owed up to five months salaries by the state as these workers prepare to embark on industrial action.
It is however saddening that a state such as Oyo state that has good natural resources like arable land for agriculture can also be among the states struggling to cope financially.
Although past governors in the state never looked towards the direction of diversifying the economy of the state, especially by investing in agriculture which  is the major occupation of most inhabitants of the state, they all relied heavily on the monthly allocation from the Federal Government.
The current governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who came into power under the umbrella of the APC, promised to diversify the economy of the state, but after spending fours years, nothing has been done in that direction. Instead, the governor has embarked on reckless and frivolous spending in ceremonies.
In a state where most people living below poverty line and workers are owed months of salaries, the governor and his immediate family are often spotted at shopping centres abroad on spending spree, his children are known for throwing opulent parties and jamboree every other week.
Governor Ajimobi has failed the workers of Oyo states who voted heavily for him during the election if truly he instigated the idea of the governors complaining of paying 18,000 stipends to the poor workers of their states

Are you just waking up? The complaint from your write-up spans less than two quarters, that is, since the inception of the Buhari era. Thus I am tempted to lock a partisan cum tribal chain on your neck. However I will resist the strong temptation. Are you now realising that sectarianism, ethnicity and intertribal hate are all deepening alarmingly?

In as much as I do not celebrate nor relish tribal bouts as some do, deceitful chameleon patriotism is a worse irritation.

Finally, sectarianism is not a Nairaland creation neither is Nairaland responsible for fuelling it. The tribal hate here on Nairaland is a microcosm of what happens across Nigeria. First, go tell your political elites to pull off their sectarian garments before coming back here to drag Seun along. Let him be!

Politics / Face-off: How Obiano Mismanaged My N75bn Savings —obi by nwanwaoge(m): 10:05pm On Nov 20, 2015
Former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has reacted to Governor Willie Obiano’s recent allegation that the N75 billion savings handed over to him (Obiano) by Obi, in March 2014, were far less than the actual figure, accusing the current governor of distortion of facts and gross finan cial mismanagement.

At a recent press conference in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Obiano had dismissed Obi’s claims as “half-truths” pointing out that the former governor left the state with a heavy debt overhang of N106.2 billion when his tenure expired on March 17, 2014.Obiano had wondered how Obi could have given Ndi Anambra a rosy picture of the assets he left behind without showing them the liabilities he incurred.

The governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solomon Osi ta Chukwulobelu, held that out of the N185.1bn, the Obi adminis tration could only pay the sum of N78.9bn when it handed over power in March last year, bringing the total liabilities to N106.2bn.

But Obi, who opened up yester day, in a statement made available to the press by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem, decried how Obiano squandered the hardearned savings in foreign currency which would have gone a long way in sustaining the development of the State. The statement entitled, “We Need a Public Debate on the N75 billion Peter Obi Left,” provided details and listed the areas the money was frittered away to include N5 billion ap proved by the present administration for the celebration of the first 100 days in office, the N1 billion monthly security vote, hundreds of billions spent for 2014 Christmas decoration and buying of horses and the N40 million to mount the gates at the Government’s Lodge.

Others include N35 million spent to mount the gate at the Government’s House, change of roof at the Government House which gulped N700 million, change of all the tiles in the Government House to pale granite at N150 million, procurement of dining table at N25 mil lion, seats at N50 million, gold bed from the United States at N30 million and another gold bed for the governor’s wife at N25 million.

Giving a further breakdown on how Obiano successfully depleted the N75 billion savings within a short period of time, Obienyem said N40 million was spent on imported kitchen cabinet from the United States, N150 million for musical sets for Aguleri, acquisition and relocation of all lands around the governor’s compound at Aguleri, as well as the increase in Commissioners and Special Advisers pay to over N400,000 monthly as against N190,000 Obi’s administration paid.

Other areas the savings was mismanaged include the increase in salary of Senior Special Assistants from N160,000 to N300,000.

According to the former governor, Obiano had also used more vehicles in less than two years than what his predecessor used in eight years, with the present Secretary to the State Government (SSG) using three Prado SUVs and two Toyota Hilux cars; the Chief of Staff two Prado SUVs and two Toyota Hilux cars and the Principal Secretary using two Prado SUVs and one pickup car.

While saying that there is nothing wrong in government borrowing money to meet its genuine demands, Obienyem dismissed the claim that the Obi administration left debts on contracts executed.

His words: “They said that Obi left N106.2 billion (wrong figure) over hangon contractual debts alone. I challenge them to publish the schedule of the debts and the companies being owed.

“As at the time Obi left office, he paid for all the certificates generated on contracts awarded. Certificates are generated on the basis of work completed. Are they saying Obi ought to pay for contracts yet to be done? The same man saying this awarded 35 fresh roads within his first year in office at the total cost of over N81 billion out of which he has paid N10 billion.

“On the other hand, Obi awarded roads totalling N93 billion in his last year in office and paid a total of over N51 billion on those roads before leaving office. Most of those roads were used to campaign for him during electioneering on the premise of continuity,” the statement said.

On the claim by the present administration that it met only N9 billion cash in the treasury Obienyem said: “  It is shocking to note that the Anambra State government said they only met 9 billion cash in the treasury. The point is that Obi left 37 Billion Naira in the treasury. We have the statements of accounts from the banks as at March 17th, 2014.    Let me illustrate using a few examples. Fidelity Bank and the money in the account as at 17th  March, 2017: account Name:    Ministry of Works, No: 5030005514, N2,403,862,359.89; account Name:    Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport,    No: 5030025545,    N2,029,706,380.45; account Name:    Local Govt    Community Development, account No: 5030042391, N1,734,069,061.09; account Name:    Government    Account, 5030047097, N3,048,355,196.

Diamond Bank: Account Name:    Anambra State Subsidy Account, account No: 0026290200,    amount  N5,126,258,908.72;  account name: UBE Matching Grant    Account, No: 0031151473, amount    N2,101,864,766.68;  account name: Anambra State Joint Local Govt, No: 0022404540; amount  N3,276,354,490.46.

First Bank:    Name of Account: EF/IGR Consolidated Account, no is 2018779464, amount is N2,139,951,400.00. Enterprise Bank, account name is Govt House, Awka, Account no is 1400036138 and Amount is 1,928,596,191.25.      The total is N23,789,018,751 (Twenty-Three Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Seven Million, eighteen hundred, Seven hundred and fifty One kobo.”

“It is pertinent to note that two years have gone and Anambra State government is still debating what was left or not, even when other governors that inherited huge debts, unpaid salaries and repayable loans and bonds have all taken off.

“In Obi’s first six months in office, he had already saved enormous money for the state before he was illegally impeached” he added.

Furthermore, according to Obienyem, “As a matter of fact, during his inauguration, Gov. Obiano listed many projects he would undertake, some of which are building an air port, building three power stations, among others.

“He started three flyovers at the initial cost of N5 billion that was later varied to N15 billion. They diverted the money meant for the road, from Amansea to Amawbia round about to three flyovers. The contractor doing those flyovers is owed over N7 billion.

“He also started the construction of three roads to the airport simultaneously. Are these not enough reasons to convince Anambra peo ple on the need to borrow rather than bring Mr. Peter Obi into it?”

Show evidence you left N75bn -APGA

But the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has dared the formergovernor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, to produce evidence that he handed over N75bn to his success, Dr Willie Obiano as he claimed in his handover note 18 months ago.

Speaking to reporters in Awka, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Ifeatu Obiokoye, said the party and Governor Obiano decided to keep mute for such a long time because they wanted peace to reign, more so when Obi was still a member of APGA family.

He said there was no doubt ab-initio that both the uninformed and informed minds knew that the controversial N75bn was not existing any where.

“I believe Governor Willie Obiano was being cautious by coming up with the truth now which, if he had done before now, would have embarrassed his predecessor.

‘’What is clear is that even in the handover note the liabilities were not clearly spelt out.

“The other aspect was other monies that was not in liquid cash but in liabilities. What do we now do with the truth as revealed by Governor Obiano.

‘’I would say that it is time for all of us to seriously look at the financial position of the state in the light of the global recession that is also affecting the country,” he said.

Stating that the revenue currently accrued to the state was 48% less than what it used to get three years ago, Obiokoye charged the people of the state to find ways of raising internally generated revenue, IGR,  to enable government meet up recurrent and capital expenditures.

While condemning the bloated civil service with more than 6,000 staff by Obi at the terminal days of his administration, Obiokoye praised Obiano for being able to pay workers on 25th of every month and pensioners as at when due.

Obiokoye, who described Obi’s reaction to the N75bn saga as pitiable, said it became necessary the governor told the people of the state the truth because the opposition championed by Obi had been and was still playing politics with the issue to drag the image of Obiano to the mud

Politics / Re: The Nnamdi Kanu Phenomena VERSUS The Nigeria Countless Lies-cnn by nwanwaoge(m): 12:03am On Nov 11, 2015
RichieF27:

ILLUSTRATION
Once upon a time in Aba, precisely in 1996, a well constructed and beautifully decorated 3Storey building housing tenants and a warehouse for packing imported goods was gutted down by fire, destroying houses within the building plus goods worth billions of Naira. A panel was set up to investigate the possible cause of the fire, but every attempt to unravel the puzzle led back to the conclusion that the fire was a mysterious one. At least it made sense from the context of African mentality, and the matter rested.
Few months after, 3 kids were playing within the vicinity and one of them said to the other 2: “This man has come again to burn another house”. The statement drew the attention of an older man and a meeting was called. Some youths were sent to bring the madman that the children accused.
During interrogation, the madman denied making a fire that burnt down the house. His next line of defense put everyone into confusion when he said: “I don’t know what you people are talking about”. He put his hand in his trouser pocket, brought out a matchbox and trucks a stick before concluding. “I just started a little fire besides this house, you people can go and find the person that started that big one”. That was all there is.
Nigeria was built on a tripod of lies, deceit, and hatred.
When Britain conquered the North, the Northerners refused to send their children to school because they believed in the system where one man is supposed to be the shining star (The Kings), while the rest comes to do “Rianka dede” and eat food or any other pecks. But the Biafrans were libertarians who believed in equality. They sent their people to school to learn the Whitman’s ways. After the Colonial masters left, the Biafrans held almost every clerical and administrative post in Nigeria as the educated folk, which was where the deep-rooted hatred started. The Suaduana of Sokoto in and interview said: “If there is any work to be done and there is no Hausa person to employ, we will give the job to an expatriate like you (referring to the white interviewer), but if there is none, we will consider other people like the Yoruba’s, but for the Igbos, No! There are too domineering, if you employ them today as a laborer, they will try to rise to be the manager” That tells you all you need to know. This same idealogy was the cause of massacre of the Biafrans in the North from in 1945, 1966, 1967-1970, through even to today both silently and openly. All they use it a good media story to bury it.
The discovery of oil and the supposed continued interest of Britain made them to handover Nigeria to the Northerners and reminded them that it they allow the Biafrans to go on their own, the Northerners will die of hunger because they were the poorest part of the country. So when the war broke out, reintegrating the Biafrans was the only option to keep the North surviving and the oil flowing to the Britain.
This write-up is not a history lesson, but an attempt to x-ray the main reason why Nigeria has never been one, and can never be one. Even Frederick Luggard in his report to the crown of England stated that: “Northern and Southern Nigeria are like water and oil that can never mix”.
Many years after the war, Nigeria continued to duel on the fire of lies lit by the British. They decided to hate the Biafrans for no reason. To achieve this, they started lying to the Biafrans in the Riverine areas that their problem was their brothers in the hinterland – the Ibo. It caused a division that made the Biafrans lose the war, while the North and the Yorubas gained everything, the oil and the glory. Then after the war, Biafrans were further divided with more lies of calling some parts Niger Delta, South-South, South East, Oil Patch, etc, and it has kept them divided for as long as possible while the cabals from the North keep sharing the oil money among themselves, leaving the Biafra lands undeveloped and in abject poverty. The deceit of the Nigeria government and their inhuman policies has made it impossible to survive in Biafra lands, same reason why the people of Biafra are scattered all over the world suffering untold pains, scavenging for a means to survive. Yet in their countless lies, the Northerners through the help of their Yoruba marksmen – brought an idea that the Ibo’s love money. With the help of their lying newspapers and media preponderance, they killed the brain of every Biafran and kept telling them that they hated each other. ONE Nigeria became the biggest of all the lies, because they all know very succinctly that the only thing keeping Nigeria one is the oil flowing from Biafralands and the continued oppression of the Biafrans, their subjugation and subjection to perpetual, abject poverty.
MEDIA PREPONDERANCE
One of the ways the Nigeria government has continued to spread hatred of the Biafrans by other Nigerians is in the craftiness and clear-cut interweaving of countless lies with the truth. They have over the years exercised total media blanket on the main issues of – Lies, Propaganda, Gang-up, Hatred, Tribal bigotry, Ethnic Bigotry, Sectional divides, Religious Divides, Insensitivity to people’s plight. They keep saying the Ibos are corrupt, but it will surprise anyone to know that the greatest thieves of Nigeria had been the Hausas and the Yorubas that ever led Nigeria, whereas the newspapers cover their tracks for them. The examples abound. IBB, OBJ, Umaru Dikko, Buhari, Abubakar, Abacha etc are all confirmed looters with Dollars abroad, Tinubu, Atiku to name but a few are all under the covering of the countless lies of Nigeria Media, they all still walk free upon the weight of evidences against them. But every Biafran – man or woman that has ever looted are either languishing in jail in Britain or still being hounded. The British has been a very good madman in escalating the fire they had already started, even as the 3Storey building is almost fully burnt.

THEN ENTERS NNAMDI KANU
Kanu is the director of London-based radio station, Radio Biafra, which he founded in 2009 with the help of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu explained the station, which the Nigerian government deemed illegal, aims to “bring hope, enlightenment and knowledge to our people”.
The Nigerian government claimed in July that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had managed to jam Radio Biafra’s signal in Nigeria. But they only lied.

One thing the Nigerian government can’t condone is the TRUTH. When Nnamdi came with the truth to educate the people, it took just a little time for him to win the peoples’ mind because the truth came on air for the first time in Nigeria.

He says the things no one had ever said in the history of Nigeria, those truths that had been systematically buried and left to rot away. Nobody speaks about the Biafran war and the genocide so that the war criminals like Yakubu Gowon, IBB, OBJ etc will continue to walk free after committing countless heinous war crimes against humanity. It takes the courage of one courageous man to liberate thousands of courageous men. Through his truth telling courage, he brought his people into light and dissected bit-by-bit the many years of media lies of the Yoruba gutter media. The truths in his lessons include:
1. That our current President raped a 9years old girl when he was 45 (A fact nobody ever knew before then).
2. That Buhari on BBC Hausa Radio said: “an Attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North.
3. That the Northerners bring nothing to the table of Nigeria.
4. Our leaders – past and present are the real criminals and enemies of Nigeria.
5. That the people of Biafra were never at any time enemies.
6. That Buhari said that Abacha was not corrupt.
7. That Obasanjo said just recently that they would deal with Boko Haram the way they dealt with Biafra.
8. That Britain helped the Hausas to commit genocide of killing over 3million Biafrans while the world look the other way.
9. The list is unending and there is nothing he ever said that was not the truth.
People can only follow the light, not darkness.

CURRENTLY
The arrest of Nnamdi Kanu has continued to cause protest in the Biafra lands. In the normal way of the Nigeria oppression, they are shooting innocent women on a peaceful protest and clamping the protesters into prisons. To what end I ask? Why is the world still looking the other way? Are the Biafrans really part of the world where the Amnesty International and United Nations operate?
The British Government came to West Africa and put a little fire, went back to Britain and whatever that is happening in Nigeria now, Nigerians should go and find the cause.
The only problem now is that the crop of Biafrans leading this campaign is educated to the rightful meaning of the word education. As a result, the outcome of this impending doom will be completely different from the one in 1967, unless the world rises up to its responsibility. Freedom is an alienable right of every indigenous people on earth and Biafrans belongs the earth as well.

Politics / Re: Different Strokes For Jonathan And Buhari? by nwanwaoge(m): 10:21am On Oct 30, 2015
Dhugal:
MOSES E. OCHONU

My friend, Professor Pius Adesanmi , set the
tone for what I'm about to say in a recent
Facebook update. If you have not read his
update in which he makes a forceful argument
for holding the Buhari administration
accountable for the president's pre-election
promises in the area of security and the effort
against Boko Haram, please go and read it
without delay. It is a prescient and timely
intervention. Adesanmi was writing to bemoan
the continued rampage of Boko Haram in spite
of Buhari's promise to take away their ability
to continue their murderous activities.
Adesanmi's overarching arguments are 1) we
should insist on Buhari fulfilling his promise of
securing the lives and property of citizens
from the menace of Boko Haram, a promise
that the recent wave of bombings vitiate; 2) we
should demand from this administration a
clear articulation of its strategy for ending
Boko Haram; and 3) what we criticized and
refused to accept when Jonathan was president,
we should not accept, rationalize, or fail to
criticize in Buhari's administration.
I want to extend Adesanmi's treatise beyond
the narrow domain of security. I want to
broaden his contention to the entire gamut of
issues and challenges confronting the country.
I am arguing simply that, regardless of the
issue involved, what we didn't tolerate from
Jonathan and roundly criticized in his
administration, we should also not tolerate
from Buhari and should have the courage to
criticize. Here is a list of things we rightly
criticized Jonathan for, but which, for reasons
I cannot fathom, we seem to have ignored or
accepted in Buhari's administration.
1. We pilloried Jonathan's administration for
maintaining a wasteful 12-aircraft presidential
fleet (enough to constitute a modest airline)
despite the deepening hardship and cash
crunch in the country. In response to initial
misinformation from overzealous Buhari
supporters about Buhari's decision to sell off
most of the aircraft, the administration came
out and firmly denied taking such a decision
and has continued to maintain the same
presidential fleet. This inexplicable resolve to
continue with what is universally regarded as a
symbol of executive profligacy is not attracting
any critical attention from otherwise skeptical
citizens. And I don't want to hear the excuse
that Buhari didn't buy the aircraft, that he
inherited them.
2. Staying with the aircraft theme, the new
Customs boss, Col. Hameed Ali, a key Buhari
appointee, travels around to conduct official
business in a cozy private jet, but he is being
praised as a man of action instead of being
criticized with the same vehemence with which
Mrs. Diezani Allison-Maduekwe, former
minister of petroleum, was criticized for doing
the same thing.
3. The economy is reeling from Buhari's
misguided, counterproductive, and
unsustainable policy of defending the naira at
all cost by placing primitive and economically
unsound restrictions on access to foreign
exchange. This currency control has
compounded a curious companion policy of
decreeing bans on certain imports (both raw
materials an finished goods) and wishing that
Nigeria would magically begin producing them
in spite of structural problems like poor
electricity, reliance on imported heavy
machinery, expensive borrowing rates, a
general poverty of infrastructure, and a volatile
policy environment. Our reaction to this
cluelessness has been either to stay silent or to
praise Buhari’s intentions, as though his lofty
intentions outweigh the real damage that this
policy is doing to various sectors of the
economy. The road to hell they say is paved
with good intentions, and we may very well be
headed to a figurative hell with the
pronouncement by the CBN that Nigeria’s
economy will enter recession next year. We
scrutinized all of Jonathan's economic policies,
taking them apart when they did not make
sense. But we seem to have conceded to
Buhari the right to make as many mistakes as
he wants even at the cost of inflicting serious
harm on the economy at a time of low oil
prices and a resulting economic contraction.
It's almost as if we think that the old man
knows best and have suspended our critical
faculties as a result.
4. Several bomb blasts rocked the northeastern
states of Adamawa and Borno in the course of
two days, killing cores of our citizens and
puncturing our already fragile security. It took
the presidency an entire day to acknowledge
the tragedy and offer words of comfort to a
beleaguered and traumatized nation and to the
victims' families. When Jonathan displayed
similar crass indifference to the nihilist
violence of Boko Haram and to the victims of
the carnage, we spared no outrage in
criticizing him and his team. Today, we seem
to have given Buhari's government an open-
ended benefit of the doubt on the same
attitude.
5. When Jonathan failed to articulate a
coherent road map for defeating Boko Haram,
we rightly called him out on the failure.
Buhari has not clued the nation into his grand
strategy for ending the insurgency, if one
exists. Yet we have not demanded that he
communicate clearly with the nation on this.
6. When Jonathan hired some South African
mercenaries to help drive out the insurgents
from Nigerian's towns and villages, many of us
saw that as a humiliating climb down for our
army and our country, a testament to the
failure to equip and motivate the army to fight
at their maximum ability. Then candidate
Buhari criticized Jonathan for surrendering and
violating Nigeria's sovereignty, pride, and
status as a regional power. He said the
Nigerian army was capable, by itself, of
routing the enemy if properly equipped and
motivated. Several days ago, however, we read
news, still undenied, that the administration
has done exactly the same thing that candidate
Buhari angrily condemned. They have quietly
hired South African mercenaries to help
combat Boko Haram and to meet the
December deadline issued by the president. We
are yet to hear any serious critique of this
decision to continue with a previously
criticized Jonathan strategy. For the record, I
don't care how we defeat Boko Haram and do
not mind if it takes South African mercenaries
or Martians to defeat them. I am just pointing
out the double standards of criticizing
Jonathan for engaging the mercenaries and
giving Buhari a pass for doing the same thing--
as well as the hypocrisy of Buhari criticizing
Jonathan for enlisting the help of the
mercenaries only to turn around and do so
himself.
7. When Jonathan travelled to Chad to try to
enlist the help of Idris Deby in combating the
insurgency, he was mocked for being weak and
for groveling before regional minnows. The
cantankerous Nasir el-Rufai even suggested in
a tweet that the former president had gone to
Chad to confer with Deby on how to plan more
attacks, an outrageous nod to the conspiracy
theories circulating in the north about
Jonathan's complicity in, if not sponsorship of,
Boko Haram. Today, Buhari's most discernible
public gesture in the fight against Boko Haram
is his travel around the world and in our
region begging for foreign help and
cooperation. And he seems to have invested all
his strategic permutations in the regional force
headquartered in Chad. He is, in other words,
doing what Jonathan did or tried to do. But the
reaction to his actions has been decidedly and
radically different. While Jonathan was widely
condemned, Buhari is being praised for
courting much needed alliances for defeating
Boko Haram.
8. When Jonathan appointed (and defended)
several people tainted by allegations and
revelations of corruption into his government,
we rightly expressed our disapproval in very
strident language. Today, Buhari has appointed
people plagued by weighty and credible
allegations of corruption into his cabinet and
into key roles in his administration. Instead of
dusting up our anti-Jonathan criticism and
applying it to Buhari, we have now crafted a
new argument for rationalizing this brazen act
of self-contradiction by an anti-corruption
president. We now argue that the appointees
may have been corrupt but that, serving under
Buhari, they will not dare touch government
money. That may be so, given the personal
example of incorruptibility from Buhari, but
that does not invalidate the truth that such
appointments constitute a reward for
corruption — and a bad signal to corrupt
officials. Those who should be answering to
allegations and revelations of corruption will
instead be enjoying the prestige and aura of
high office in an administration purportedly
anchored on an anti-corruption ethos.
This list is not exhaustive. You can add to it.
Obviously contexts change and one must
acknowledge that. Jonathan was criticized
within a wider matrix of issues. Moreover, in
some cases, the contexts in which he took
some of his widely criticized decisions, or
failed to take a decision, were different from
those that prevail today. We must therefore
temper our critique of Buhari’s young
government with that caveat.
We must also give Buhari a grace period for
getting a handle on the many challenges of the
country. Perhaps, our criticism of his
preservation of Jonathan’s many policies and
attitudes would be more justified after he has
spent a year in office and the texture and color
of his presidency have emerged with clarity.
Even so, it is never too early to emplace the
parameters of vigilance and accountability.
Moreover, if we don’t begin to ask tough
questions now and to challenge brazen
disregard for the anxieties and problems of
citizens, Buhari and his team will only take
that as acquiescence and go further down the
familiar and failed path.
The failure to criticize early, to lay down a
marker of citizen skepticism, as well as a
willingness to offer a prolonged period of
grace to a new government are detrimental to
both the said government and citizens. It is
one of the reasons that Jonathan strayed and
was never able to course-correct.
In the wake of the Yar’Adua debacle, Nigerians
were willing to give Jonathan an elastic latitude
of action and inaction. Now, in the wake of
Jonathan’s disastrous government, we seem to
be making the same mistake with Buhari and
setting him up for the tone-deaf indifference
and disconnection that became the defining
signature of the Jonathan administration.
Jonathan did not lose his way overnight. It was
a gradual process aided by a vast, uncritical
army of excuse makers and givers of endless
benefits of the doubt.
We need to stop the rationalization of Buhari’s
lethargic beginnings. The election is over.
Buhari is fully in charge. Forced excuses are
no longer convincing. Body language has an
expiration date and has clearly run its course
while serious problems persist. It is time to
demand concrete actions, plans, and outcomes
from this government.

Politics / Re: Election Nullification, Judicial Gang-up Against Me – Wike by nwanwaoge(m): 4:05am On Oct 29, 2015
iliyande:
Governor Nyesom Wike has described the nullification of his election by the Election Petition Tribunal as a gang up against him and the people of the state arguing that the the judiciary was setting a dangerous precedent in the country with the way it had gone about elections in Rivers state.

Special Adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Mr Opunabo Nko-Tariah in a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt alleged that there had been effort to wrestle power from Governor Wike through the back door, adding that legal steps will be taken to defend the mandates of the people displayed in the April 11 general election.
“What is going on right now can best be described as judicial gang-up against Governor Wike, nay, the people of Rivers State. It is an affront on democracy and a blight disregard for the will of the people as evinced in the April 11 general elections.

“The courts are setting pernicious precedents by hinging their verdicts on inane points. Rivers people overwhelmingly gave their mandate to Governor Wike but a microscopic few want to wrest that mandate from him through the back door”.

Peterside condemns Wike’s attack on the Judiciary

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the April election, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has condemned the denigration of the judiciary by Governor Nyesom Wike, his agents and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Peterside who spoke in Abuja said the vilification of an important arm of government like the judiciary by desperate politicians portend grave danger for Nigeria and her budding democracy.

He described the disparagement and on-going war against the judiciary by Wike and the PDP as a dangerous example that must be checked quickly because of its calamitous consequences.

“The judiciary is a sacred and respected institution. Therefore, any person or persons who openly criticise judges and their rulings obviously have a sinister motive.

“However, it is gratifying to note that people are beginning to fully appreciate the character and temperament of the people we engaged during the last general elections in Rivers State. They are obviously finding it difficult to live under due process and the rule of law because they are used to impunity and violence, the two evils that were taken to new heights under the last government.

“If service is really the reason for being in politics, then it is tragic that these politicians are conducting themselves in such a spiteful manner. Nobody is above the law and when people openly and brazenly challenge institutions of state like the judiciary, it sends the wrong signal.

“The APC in Rivers State and its candidates took their losses at the various election petitions tribunals with equanimity, knowing full well that a window of opportunity still exists. Even when we felt very dissatisfied with the verdicts, we still did not abuse the judiciary or judges who handled our cases because we know the consequences of such defamatory actions.

“Wike and Rivers PDP are still living in the past but they should be reminded that Nigeria of today is a survivor because she defeated impunity and all the lawlessness of the last administration”.
