Politics / Exposed, Governor Alex Otti Set To Appoint An APC Chieftain As LGA Transition Ch by Nwokomaizuchi: 4:57pm On Jun 30, 2023
A source close to a former House of Assembly member that represented Bende South, Chibuzor Okogbuo, says he is about to be appointed as Bende Local Government Transition Chairman by Governor Alex Otti.

Chibuzor, who also contested for House of Assembly in the just concluded General Elections under APC happens to be Uche Ogah's part of negotiations before collapsing his Abia Rejoice structure to support him.

While this might be speculation, if eventually it happens, Ndi Bende will be disappointed that after working tirelessly to win this election, Dr Otti couldn’t find any of the party faithful to reward, but to trade the trust and loyalty of Nde Bende.

As at the time of filing this report, all calls and messages sent to Dr. Alex Otti’s supporters, Bende Chapter were unanswered.

Education / Okorocha's Wife Graduates From Imsu With A PhD by Nwokomaizuchi: 6:21am On Feb 05, 2023
At the 8th Convocation ceremony of Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria, Saturday 4th February 2023 held at the institution's convocation arena, the Former First Lady of Imo State, Her Excellency Zinariya Ugo Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha having satisfied all requirements both in learning and character has been conferred with a PhD in International Relations and Diplomacy.

The highly cerebral humanitarian and author of several books on developmental societal ideals has over the years had other academic laurels to her credit namely Bsc in Accounting and an Msc in International Relations and Diplomacy, all from the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.

Ugo Nneoma Okorocha left no one surprised when she commenced this post graduate programme couple of years back, attending lectures and combining all that systematically with her various roles as a first lady of a state, philanthropist works with her WODDI ( Women of Divine Destiny Initiatives...building over 200 houses for widows and the less privileged in Imo State and elsewhere, etc) activities and her developmental interventionist writing tendencies.

She has always had the passion for change and bringing new horizons in cooperation between countries especially in the exchanges of ideas, partnerships and strengthening of international institutions that provide empowerment, pathways and accelerations for lifting people of diverse backgrounds globally who are at indigent levels. One will convincingly deduce that for her to embark on this academic pursuit in this field (international relations and diplomacy) yet again at this top level is to further realize these goals

The occasion was graced by dignitaries from across the length and breadth of the country and the international community including: the Visitor to the University and Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the former Governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Imo West, His Excellency Sen. Rochas Okorocha (who came to show love to his wife), other Members of the National Assembly, Honourable Ministers, Imo State Government Functionaries, Former Imo Governorship Candidate and former Chief of Staff, Imo Government House, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu ( son in law to Mrs Okorocha) and a host of other immediate family members of Mrs Okorocha including numerous former top appointees in the Imo State rescue mission administration of Former Governor Rochas Okorocha and some Ambassadors of countries who all came to show support to the Former First Lady of Imo State.

Politics / I'm Pained By Absence Of Clear-cut Philosophy Among Igbos ~ Gov Ikpeazu by Nwokomaizuchi: 2:22pm On Oct 19, 2022
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, on Tuesday decried the absence of a clear-cut philosophy among Ndigbo, stressing that Igbos must re-align themselves to make any meaningful progress.

Ikpeazu, who stated this at his Umuobiakwa residence in Obingwa LGA of Abia State while addressing friends, Abians and Nigerians on the occasion of his 58th birthday celebration, said the future of Ndigbo hangs on a balance if indigenes of the zone continue to do same thing repeatedly.

Speaking on the Future of the Igbo Nation, Governor Ikpeazu harped on attitudinal change from Igbo sons and daughters, stating that the greatest problem facing Ndigbo is lack of philosophy, maintaining that Igbos do not believe in themselves, talk more of what they can achieve as a formidable force.

He charged Igbos to change their philosophy, insisting that it has to re-align with the geography of the zone, stressing that it is only when this is done that meaningful progress and development can be attracted to the zone.

Governor Ikpeazu challenged Igbos doing well in regions outside Igboland, to emulate Prof Barth Nnaji who brought the Geometric Power to South-East even as he had option of taking it elsewhere, maintaining that Prof Nnaji represents a typical Igbo man with Igbo DNA in him.

He maintained that no meaningful development can go ahead without adequate power, appreciating the efforts so far made by Prof Berth Nnaji CEO, Geometric Power and Mr. Darl Uzu, the brain behind the Enyimba Economic City.

Ikpeazu admonished Igbos to develop a philosophy for their politics and other spheres of human endeavour, urging them to realise who they are, remain focused and hold onto their new found philosophy.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who said he wants to be remembered for the interventions and legacy projects he made vis-à-vis the Eyimba Economic City and Geometric Power and not as a Governor that built classroom blocks, said he is bent on achieving the Enyimba Economic City Project as well as ensure that the Geometric Power is fully actualised.

He disagreed with those using insecurity in Igboland as the reason they prefer taking their businesses elsewhere, noting that there is no security anywhere in the world just as he added that there is no conducive environment to make money.

He regretted that many youths and women have acquired certain skills, but finance to start up has been an impediment, promising that if elected, he will, by the grace of God, ensure that start-up packages are offered to those in need.

Barr. He frowned that those they elected in the past deprived them of essentials of life as they have continued to siphon monies meant for their constituents, maintaining that he is going to be their representative so as to touch lives and bring dividends of democracy to their door steps.

Speaking while inaugurating the members of the structures, the former Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Martins Azubuike, reminded the members of the various structures that they are lucky to be chosen to perform the task of working assiduously for the success of Barr Ikpo.

Earlier, the candidate of the party for Isiala Ngwa North in the State House of Assembly, Alex Chibuikem, who commended the mammoth crowd for their support, charged them to persevere in their struggle to liberate Abia from bad leadership. Sir Nwogu, a Knight of Saint Johns of the Catholic Church, who played a key role in the emergence of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as Governor in 2015, said he left the party particularly because of Governor Ikpeazu's inability to keep to his numerous promises made before his emergence.

"According to him, "Gov Ikpeazu' is incapable of honouring his words. To him, promises means nothing to him. I can no longer operate under such an umbrella".

Sir Nwogu stated this at the weekend while speaking with newsmen, revealing that he didn't leave the party for any other person other than the Governor of the State who he said, he campaigned for, worked tirelessly to ensure that he emerged a Governor.

Health / Channel Waste Water Appropriately, Abia Town Planners To Car Wash Operators by Nwokomaizuchi: 6:29am On Jun 13, 2022
Worried by the heavy waterlog witnessed around places used for car wash businesses in Umuahia and Aba metropolis, the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, is appealing to those doing car wash business, to do more to channel the waste water used for their business appropriately.

The Institute said this has become imperative going by the heavy waterlog experienced in areas where the roads are tarred and untarred, noting that some car wash operators in these areas do little or nothing to ensure that the already existing drainages are opened up so that waste water can pass through.

Speaking at the weekend after witnessing a sordid site housing car wash operators in Umuahia the capital, the Chairman of the Institute, Town Planner Stephen Chukwudi Nwazue, said the Institute is not witch-hunting anyone, or groups, adding that its responsibility is to ensure a habitable town for all.

Tpl Nwazue who decried the activities of car wash operators in areas where the roads are not tarred, charged them to, at least collaborate with their neighbors during sanitation days and find solution to the heavy waterlog witnessed in their areas of operation.

He said those that wash cars on the tarred roads weaken the strength of the roads and also reduce the size of the road because the vehicles park along the road, urging them to channel the waste water appropriately and also avoid causing traffic within such areas.

He said this has become pertinent as "we are entering the peak of rainy season", stressing that mosquitoes breed in this areas that are waterlogged hence the need to find a permanent solution to the problem for the benefit of inhabitants of those areas.

Tpl Nwazue urged the government through the Ministry of Environment, to assist those doing car wash business with manpower, especially during sanitation days, noting that this will assist in maintaining a decent and aesthetically sound and safe city.

Politics / 2023: Why Prof. Uche Ikonne Should Choose A Woman As Running Mate by Nwokomaizuchi: 2:59pm On Jun 03, 2022
the words of Michelle Bachelet, head of UN, former President and Defence Minister, "For me, a better democracy is a democracy where women do not only have the right to vote and to elect but to be elected",

It is on the above submission, that it has become imperative, for the People's Democratic Party's flag bearer in the 2023 election, Prof. Uche Eleazer Ikonne, to pick a woman as his running mate or better still, deputy in the general election come 2023.

In all fairness, women have distinguished themselves in various climes and aspects of human endeavour and are further seen as rock of Gibraltars, as well as voices to be reckoned with in politics and other spheres. Come to think of it, women in various families today, have supported their husbands financially, wisdom wise, among others.

No wonder it is being said that " behind every successful man, there is a woman". A woman doing what one may ask? Of course, playing advisory role, praying for the husband as well as being supportive in other areas that one cannot ordinarily identify.

The distinguishing attributes of former Nigerian Finance Minister during ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, singled her out and paved the way for future laurels. If not that she was given the opportunity to make input in the governance of the country, nobody would have realised the endowments deposited in women regarding governance.

What about the likes of Former Minister of Education during ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration, Mrs. Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili, former Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of Nigeria, late Dora Nkem Akunyili among others, who served diligently and today has continued to receive accolades.

The truth remains that our society still needs to have the likes of the aforementioned to contribute their own quota towards the development of the country and particularly Abia State, which is our focus.

It is also pertinent to mention the contributions of Dame Virginia Etiaba, a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State in 2006. If such opportunity that resulted in the impeachment of the then Governor Peter Obi, did not present itself, nobody would have appreciated the qualities of the former Proprietress who resigned her position to be the Deputy Governor of the State.

In sincerity, Abia needs to tow this line, and the only way it can be done, is for the PDP flag bearer in the State, Prof Uche Ikonne, an academic, who has had women work under him before assuming the status he has today, to heed this call, and pick a woman within his party to assist him take Abia to the promised land.

There is no doubt this will gladden the hearts of many women in the State and beyond as they have always demanded 35 if not 40 percent affirmative action for women. The PDP flag bearer, Prof. Ikonne can re-write the wrongs of past administration by giving women a voice by choosing one of their own come 2023 as running mate.

Politics / 2023: Onowu Nwakanma, Roots For Abia Female Governor, Says Past Govs Has Failed by Nwokomaizuchi: 5:24am On Jun 01, 2022
An Abia born technocrat and the All Progressives National Youth Network South-East Youth Leader, Onowu Martins .C. Nwakanma, has made case for the emergence of a woman as the next Governor of Abia State come 2023.

He said this has become necessary following the backwardness and underdevelopment past Governors starting from the days of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Theodore Orji and now Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has plunged the state into, stressing that it is only a woman that can change the narratives of the State.

Onowo who stated this while interacting with newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday, said the situation in Abia today is worrisome, as the negative news that emanate from the State on daily basis, ranging from poor infrastructure, non-payment of salaries, among others, have continued to present her in bad light.

Onowu Nwakanma who is the Immediate Past Regional Manager South-East TNN 2023, noted that the time has come, for Abians particularly woman and youth to rally round and jettison sentiments while asking themselves why the State is so backward in terms of development, pointing out that Abia has the resources to be among States to be used as example.

The technocrat who is known to have followers all over South-East, said it was regrettable that Abians have been portrayed as poor people by the present administration, frowning that after impoverishing the state, the present leadership also went on a national Television to portray Abia women as poor people, pointing out that this should force women to put resources together and support a woman as the next Governor in 2023.

Onowu Nwakanma, who was once a former co-ordinator of Abia state and who has Local Government Co-ordinators in Abia state and South-East as a whole, charged women and youth in the State not to allow anyone give them peanuts and criticise them after, expressing optimism that a woman who will take care of their problems will emerge as Governor come 2023 to change their story for good.

Politics / Why Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe Should Be The Flag Bearer Of ADC ~ By Udensi Ibiam by Nwokomaizuchi: 4:19pm On May 26, 2022
Nigeria, Abia State, is in need of people who understand the intricacies of participatory leadership and need to be accountable to the people. Good governance and accountability in this clime, has eroded the people and has made them wishful thinkers, who only think and express belief that leaders who will take their burdens away will someday surface.

Truth is that such individuals, who possess the leadership acumen, abound in Nigeria, but because, society has embraced a certain political party, these individuals who have the potentials of mobilising people for action continue to show less interest and concern in the governance of their country, State among others.

But as society, Nigerian and Abia continue to go down the drain, these individuals have decided to change the narratives by providing succour to the helpless, who have been at the receiving end of bad governance and absence of inclusion.

It is on this backdrop, that Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, son of Nigeria’s former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (retd.), is the right person to take over the number one seat of Abia State come 2023.

The reason for this is not far-fetched, Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, who is seeking the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, during his declaration, said one of his priorities would be to create the enabling environment to massively engage the teeming youth population in the state.

He also expressed worry over successive administrations failure to develop the state while promising to ensure the independence of the legislature and judiciary.

Abia by virtue of her backwardness, deserves an industrialist with the right contact to change the fortunes of the State which synchronizes with one of his five-point agenda which is resuscitating all moribund state-owned industries in the state if voted into power.

The fact remains that Abia has been found wanting in economic infrastructure, security, inclusive government, and rule of law, which is why Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, is the right man to steer the ship of Abia State in the midst of various problems.

Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, with his connections, has all it takes to transform Abia to the envy of other State. What else would Abians be asking for, if not for a man with contacts and connections as well as knowing fully well how to create wealth so that Abians will be taken to the promised land.

It is a clarion call for the delegates to do the needful, look beyond sentiments, and vote for Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, who has the wherewithal to impact and impart positively on Abians through gigantic programmes that will change their fortunes. Abia deserves good leadership and people who are on their own in the race, having witnessed years of godfatherism.

ADC, delegates will be making a very big mistake, if they fail to fly Otisi Ebitu Ukiwe, as their flag bearer in the 2023 general elections on Tuesday.

The Chairman, Nigerian Intitute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, Town Planner Stephen Chukwudi Nwazue who made the call at the weekend while speaking with Journalists, said it is imperative that as the political landscape gets hotter by the day, members of the institute get their PVCs so as to elect a Governor that will support physical planning and development.

He said as critical stakeholders in Abia State, as far as Physical Planning is concerned, it has become pertinent that Abia State needs someone who will take over from the standards set by the current administration in the area of Preparation of Structure plans, charging her members not to sit on the fence but rather, take a leading role in this process of electing the next Abia Governor.

The entire staff and management of Merry Home Hotels, Aba, Abia state has reacted to the news making the rounds on the unfortunate incident that occurred in the hotel recently.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Aba, signed by Felix E. Abengowe, FCA, FCTI, The Management of Merry Home stated the facts on the issue which went viral and led to the closure of the Hotel by the Abia state Government.

In the statement, the Management stated that she regrets and condemns the sad murder incident of a lady whose child was also taken away alive as recorded at the hotel on 15th of April 2022.

The staff and Management pointed out that there is enough security in and around the premises of the hotel but may not be in a position to know what happens inside the hotel rooms, as guests enjoy privacy, adding that there was no cry for help.

The Management said as people that are in the hospitality business and a responsible firm, they had before now, put in place good security measures and have thus assisted the Police immensely in their investigations, believing that the Police will, as usual see to it that the culprits will be apprehended and made to face the long arms of the law.

Furthermore, the Management opined that it is an unfounded falsehood as claimed by some reports that there have been murder incidents this year in the hotel, emphasizing that the claims of missing persons in the hotel is equally a total falsehood as the hotel has not recorded such incident and challenges anyone with proof to forward it to the Police State CID for investigation.

The management however, thanked the Abia State Government for taking proactive step to pre-empt hoodlums from taking undue advantage of the peddled false reports to cause mayhem while assuring their valued customers and general public that despite this setback which the Police will unravel soon, Merry Home Hotels Ltd remains their “Home away” from home.

They therefore appeal and urge the general public to disregard any report meant to distort facts as they are the handwork of detractors out to tarnish the image of the Hotel/Management, promising to continue keeping the public abreast as events unfold as justice will be served and the wicked can never go unpunished.

Health / Building Collapse: Nwazue Faults Developers Over Negligence by Nwokomaizuchi: 6:55am On Apr 25, 2022
The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, has underscored the importance of consulting professionals in the construction of buildings, decrying the level of building collapse in the country.

Rising from a meeting at the weekend, the Chairman of the Institute, Town Planner Stephen Nwazue told newsmen that it has become worrisome the rate at which buildings collapse in Nigeria, stating that these incidents can be checkmated if individuals, institutions and organizations, politicians, engage the services of professionals who will maintain standards to handle their building projects.

Tpl Nwazue said apart from engaging the services of professionals, individuals can also get proposals for their building or development projects from the various town planning authorities in Abia State, adding that these authorities foresee defects in building projects by virtue of the experience acquired over the years in the development of projects.

Speaking on the attitude of some politicians who claim to be working for the government but sabotage their efforts at securing a decent town for the citizenry, Nwazue said these politicians do not approach town planning authorities to obtain developmental approval or permit, reiterating that they have failed in their duty of assisting the Government which they claim to be part of.

He noted that their attitude has also contributed to the prevailing cases of building collapse in the country, pointing out that because they refuse to follow due processes of getting building approvals, rather they use thugs to guard their building developments. These thugs restrict professionals from the Planning Authorities from carrying out their inspections rightly.

Town Planner Nwazue maintained that for Abia cities to be decent and free from constant collapse, Town Planning Authorities, Town Planners, and other Professionals in the building environment must be consulted, urging developers to seek building approval from the planning authorities.

Politics / 2023: Join Me Let's Re-write The Story Of The State, Bishop Nwankpa To Abians by Nwokomaizuchi: 6:20am On Apr 12, 2022
Abia born clergy and Governorship Aspirant of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Amb. Bishop Emeka Nwankpa has called on Abians and Abia residents to join hands with him to recover and fix Abia state for the sake of Abians and secure their future and that of their children.

Dr. Emeka Nwankpa said this while addressing newsmen in Umuahia, Abia state capital at the weekend.

The celebrated Ngwa born Philanthropist expressed shock and disatisfaction that Abia has remained underdeveloped 30 years after it's creation and wondering how one could explain why all the necessary basic amenities are lacking in a state that is supposed to be in the forefront of economic reniassance as the commercial nerve centre of the south East but has unfortunately become a laughing stock in Nigeria.

" Abia is one of the oil producing states in Nigeria, but our road networks are the worst in the country, we don't even have a government house, the state is still operating in a rented apartment, salary of workers and pensioners are not paid, infrastructural development is a far cry and we still claim, we have a state"?

" Abians are tired of recycling of old and corrupt politicians who only use and dump our teeming youths that need real help rather than peanut - enough of this retrogression, join me, let us recover Abia from political businessmen and return power to the people and not to a few cabal holding our state to ransom over the years. Yes, we can fix Abia, why not".

" We cannot make the desired change by watching from afar, let us come together to recover Abia. It is our collective responsibility to rescue our state".

Amb. Emeka Nwankpa then called on Abians and Abia residents to join the Social Democratic Party ( SDP), describing it as the only party with the potentials to change the sorry story of Ndi Abia.

He added that, Abians have tried a business man, he failed, they have tried an experienced man, he became the worst failures, they have also tried an academician and a man that parades long academic records and he also failed. Bishop Nwankpa then concluded that; what Abians need is a man of integrity, conscience and someone with the fear of God, boasting that these are his core qualities apart from his sound academic background and philanthropic activities.

" I have a clear - cut vision, courage, firmness, ascertion, belief, knowledge, wisdom, committment and patriotism to recover and build the Abia of our dreams" he added.

Dr. Bishop Emeka Nwankpa therefore called on Abians to shun " Godfatherism" which has killed the state and join SDP to help rescue and fix the state, boasting that the SDP will field candidates in all the 24 state constituency seats, 8 House of Representatives and 3 Senatorial and vowed to take power from the ruling PDP to end the decay in the state.
