Gov. Babatunde Fashola has rescued and taken custody of three kids whose parents have been missing since the DANA Air aircraft crashed into their Iju-Ishaga neighbourhood at Iju, Agege, a Lagos suburb, on Sunday. The homeless children; Joel Okechukwu (11), Chisom Okechukwu (9) and Esther Okechukwu, whose age could not be immediately ascertained, were wandering around when they were spotted and rescued by the governor during his visit to the site on Monday. The children, who are now at the Goverment House, Ikeja, were sent on errands by their parents, Mr Jeremiah Okechukwu and Mrs Josephine Okechukwu, when the aircraft hit their home and reduced it to a rubble. The emergency response officials still working on the crash site had yet to ascertain whether the couple were dead or still trapped in the debris. Briefing newmen on the rescue of the kids, Mr Aderemi Ibirogba, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said they would remain with the governor until some of their relatives were identified. “As things are now, the kids will remain with the governor here at Alausa. It`s so unfortunate that we cannot find the parents, but Joel, the eldest of the kids, has mentioned to us a particular uncle of theirs. “He said the uncle`s name is Anthony Okechukwu and that he lives in Abuja. We are trying to establish links with him and inform him of the situation of the kids. We want the public to help us in this search. “Of course, the governor is very willing to assist the kids, but the government thinks we should still know their relations. “The kids are safe and they are being taken care of at Government House.” Ibirogba said the children had passed Sunday night in the home of an unnamed Samaritan in the neighbourhood before they were seen and picked up by the governor during his visit to the area on Monday. The governor had, during the visit, described the plane crash as shocking and emotionally devastating, expressing his condolences to the families of the 153 victims. Fashola later visited some of the victims of the crash at the Emergency Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in Ikeja. The entire Popoola and Akande Toyin streets were cordoned off by heavily armed security personnel, even as rescue efforts continued. A number of houses were reduced to rubble, even as thick smoke still covered a two-storey building which was seriously damaged by the crash. Emergency response workers were also seen removing some bodies from the debris, as well as wrecked parts of the ill-fated aircraft. (NAN)

ifegy: Google is your friend. FYI, Lebanon is a country still in recovery from a devastating civil war and tensions flare up from time to time between the different groups. More recently, many refugees have fled to Lebanon from the unrest in Syria, and there have been clashes arising as a result of the tensions spilling over into Lebanon. On the job front, many women brought over from Ethiopia into Lebanon to work as maids have been seriously abused by their employees. And on and on. Seriously, if you are looking at this as a place to run away to from Nigeria, please think twice.Thank you ifegy but i have gone through all that Lebanon was engulfed in crises sometime ago but peace has returned and the country's economic indices is kind of promising even better than Naija check here ttp://www.economywatch.com/world_economy/lebanon/I only want to hear from Nigerians over there on how life is generally. |
Hi I have an opportunity to travel for a short course in Beirut in Lebanon, just want to know if there are Nigerian over there and if possible for me to get any job in the country, How is life generally over there? |
There is basically no line of comparison between the Nigerian State and that of America, Go read the history America and how the State was created, it was based on mutual agreement of all intending parties made up of different nations but one goal and that is the reason why Obama would not come out to make such statements, NIGERIA HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM OF IDENTITY AND UNTIL WE ALL SIT DOWN ON A ROUND TABLE TO SINCERELY DISCOURSE THE 1914 AMALGAMATION, WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO, THE SOONER THE BETTER!!! |
Why blame Goodluck for his utterances consigning the Nigeria state, the guy is merely telling the obvious because you will not know the true problem of a country until you take up a leadership position. the fact remains that we were miss matched by the British for easy rule, the amalgamation was not to create a unified state but to create a state that would be easy to administrate from the Queens palace in England, the earlier we understand this the better for us, the north is a complete different region predominately Islamic in nature with culture and way of life different from the western and eastern region that were more christian and traditional worshipers with some semblances in cultures and ways of life. our leaders including the president knows the root problem of Nigeria, its not corruption, its not poverty, its not lack of leadership or political will, the problem of Nigeria is that of Identity!!!! |
