1. Sir, that isn't my point - my point is that: people should be allowed freedom to their way-of-life. The Northerner Senators voted overwhelmingly for it and no Northerner has come out to speak out against it, so why're Southerners crying-me-a-river over what has absolutely nothing to do with them? At the end of the day, they aren't forcing anyone to practise, it's just there to enable those who believe in it do what they think is right for them. 2. Right or wrong is subjective and also based on outlook. Beating a child and child labour are wrong to most people. However, it's normal in Africa. So who am I to judge what a person thinks is right or wrong? Also, I definitely won't allow my under-aged sister and daughter to get married because it isn't part of my way-of-life and the consciousness instilled in me by my parents. But I definitely won't stop anyone else who believes in it, from doing it. How a person chooses to lead his/her life is non of my business. 3. There are also tons of adults (old bodies with young souls) who can't handle all these as well - should we also stop them from getting married? Lastly, life is all about choices and if the people it affects directly are in support of it - why should we be ones fighting against it? When Northerners/Muslims start fighting against it - then I'll support their cause. Till then, we need to stop the distractions and focus on Nigeria, and all the unique problems in the country.
you say it has nothing to do with the southerners abi...but when challanges arise u go use my oil money take solve am!! |

There was tumultuous joy in the South East last week especially among those living in the commercial city of Onitsha and its environs and including people in some parts of Edo, Delta and Imo states, when construction giant, Julius Berger, began mobilizing to site to commence the construction of the long awaited Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State. The presence of the construction giant at the foot of the Niger Bridge within the Onitsha axis and the berthing of several barges belonging to the company triggered jubilation in various parts of the commercial city and attracted widespread commendation for the Federal Government. Julius Berger won the contract to construct the long awaited bridge across River Niger. Two weeks ago, at the 43rd Julius Berger Annual General Meeting (AGM), its Managing Director, Mr Wolfgang Goetsch disclosed that the Federal Government had given Julius Berger a letter of intent, which would enable it to do preliminary work such as soil testing and engineering design. He explained that the bridge would be built under the private-public partnership arrangement. “A consortium that included a South African firm participated in the bidding for the project. In January 2013, our group became the preferred bidder. We are excited because it will be the first of its kind in Nigeria,” he noted. Investigation by Sunday Sun revealed that Julius Berger brought to the agreement table, the sum of N100billion, while the Federal Government is paying 30 percent equity. The 30 percent equity by government, according to our investigation, would be generated through the SURE-P programme. Giving insight into the project, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Works on Media, Mr Tony Ikpasaja, said the total length of the bridge including the accompanying road is 12.4 kilometres. Said Ikpasaja: “the entire bridge and approach road is 12.4Km. The bridge itself is 1.8km, while the approach road is 10.6km.” He said, “the approach road begins from Asaba before the airport, and veers to the right to hit the bridge, while from the bridge, the road takes you into Onitsha-Owerri road and also, to Onitsha-Enugu road.” the Onitsha River Port located few metres away from the Old Niger Bridge which is temporarily being used by officials of Julius Berger, there were many barges that had berthed along the River Niger laden with some heavy equipment belonging to the construction giant. Among the barges were those with registration no IMO 9362554 5 NLD5 carrying some equipment to be used by site engineers who were busy in various parts of the state conducting what they termed preliminary analysis. Though Julius Berger Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Joseph Ojelade declined comments on the preparation for the full commencement of the project, a senior site engineer who pleaded anonymity on the ground that he was not authorized to speak to the press said the company was ready to complete the project on time and to specifications. “As you see, we have started mobilizing to the site. It is part of the things that distinguishes us from other construction companies and we will not like to let Nigerians who have trust in us down. Some of these equipment that have started arriving belong to the small category that we are using to conduct our preliminary analysis. What we are doing now is to bring these equipment down. Many of the barges have arrived and we have offloaded these ones and have gone back to bring others.” “We are just doing preliminary works, pending the finalization of the contract. We are still waiting for that. We are thinking maybe in two months time, that is my thinking though, I’m not so sure.” Meanwhile, so many prominent Igbo sons and daughters have lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for fulfilling his campaign promise of constructing the second Niger Bridge, adding that the zone had been made to pass through untold hardship because of the failure of successive governments to construct the bridge. The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe said the need for the second Niger Bridge cannot be overemphasized, noting “the bridge when completed will help not only Ndigbo but all Nigerians and will also open up this part of the country for economic viability. We thank President Goodluck Jonathan for delivering on his campaign promises.” Igwe Achebe also expressed satisfaction with the construction company that was awarded the contract, saying “when I heard that the contract for the construction of the second bridge was awarded to Julius Berger, I quickly knew that the Federal Government was sincere in the construction of the bridge.” The former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife also thanked the Federal Government for the commencement of the construction of the second Niger Bridge and urged them to make sure that nothing hampers the timely completion of the important project.

Pastor William Kumuyi offered to resign as General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church following the controversy that trailed the wedding of his second son, John. John Kumuyi and his wife, Love had engaged in acts, which negated the church’s tradition during their wedding held in Jamaica on June 15, 2013. Love, who is a daughter of the National Overseer of Deeper Life Bible Church, Jamaica, Pastor Augustine Odih, was dressed in a fitted stylish wedding gown with transparent short sleeves. She also wore makeup, jewelry and carried a bouquet of flowers. The couple cruised in a limousine and had a huge wedding cake. The misdemeanor, which attracted widespread criticisms, had earned the newlyweds suspension from church activities despite showing remorse and tendering an apology to the church, blaming their misconduct on the fact that both of them had resided abroad for so long. the practice in the Deeper Christian Life Ministry is that if members’ children misbehave, both the children and their parents get punished on the grounds that it’s the parents’ failing in their responsibilities that made the children to err. Although the children involved in the Jamaican wedding infraction are adults, the leadership of the church regarded their action as a strong breach of its tradition, and immediately removed the bride’s father, from his position as National Overseer in Jamaica. To demonstrate that there is no double standard in the church, it was further learnt that Pastor Kumuyi, at the meeting held by the leadership of the church on the matter, offered to resign as General Superintendent, but was prevailed upon not to. the General Superintendent did not take kindly to the couple’s behavior and, unlike Eli in the Bible who did not discipline his sons and incurred the wrath of God, Pastor Kumuyi had ensured that the offenders were sanctioned.

Mr Murdah: She is a dumb-ass nitwit.you are on point here, i hate to join the band wagon when it comes to public discourse , am a regular listener to Nigeria Info and must confess that the station is a force to be re-conned with in the Nigerian broadcasting arena, but the subject here is Matse and i will not fail to state that she would be more useful at Wazobia Fm cos the crew at Nigeria Info are way above her psychic, whenever she presents a program she usually feels no one knows a subject better than her and obviously she usually rejects other people's views especially when the subject matter is on religion in fact in most time she denies the existence of the God deity. If you are a regular listener of Nigeria Info and you listen to chucks or the boss lady you would agree with me that radio call-in programs is all about listening to people's view and respecting their view even when you thing contrary but for matse its not so. Most of the times also she uses English pronunciations and words that are out of order, the lady should be taken back to wazobia fm to present in pidgin, that's where she belong. She uses words on air without confirming the pronunciation. |

Business confidence in the northern part of the country has fallen drastically below zero per cent due to the increasing level of insecurity in the region, latest findings by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry have shown. The chamber, in a report made available to our correspondent on Sunday, said though the lull in business confidence level in the region was expected, the situation had caused a severe setback to potential investments in the country, especially in the affected locations. The report entitled: ‘Nigerian Business Confidence Index (Q2, 2013),’ stated that investors were most confident in businesses located in the South-West with BCI score of 38 per cent. This was followed by companies operating in the South-East and South-South with BCI scores of 29 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively. The report stated, “Businesses located in North-East, North-West and North-Central sustained negative confidence at BCI score of -2 per cent, -1.5 per cent and -0.1 per cent, respectively. “While we note the resilience of businesses operating in southern Nigeria for keeping up amid increasing threats, the worsening security situation may have caused severe setback to businesses and potential investment, particularly in the North, and the country in general.” The BCI is an economic indicator designed to measure the degree of optimism on the state of the economy as expressed by business leaders through their investment disposition. I THINK THAT THE CRISES IN THE NORTH IS REALLY GETTING OUT OF HAND AND AS ITS GRADUALLY AFFECTING THE ECONOMY OF NOT ONLY THE NORTH BUT THE COUNTRY AT LARGE, WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE A WAY OUT? |
The truth is that most of these guys posing as presenters did not acquire basic broadcasting trainings, institutions such as FRCN Training school, Tv collage in Jos and School of Journalism ikeja churns out qualified broadcasters on regular basis but the owners of these new stations prefer to engage close relations and friends through some man know man arrangements. the cool FM group is a big culprit here, they employ presenters who come on air to brag, show-off and talk about just themselves and their class of friends. WAZOBIA fm is another station that sucks, im not against their choice of using pidgin English to broadcast at least they serve a segment of the larger Nigerian listeners but it must be done professionally, presenters like OPJ and hie crew should go get more training on how to present on radio even with pidgin English. Nigeria Info is is one of the best thing that has happened to radio broadcasting in Nigeria as they offer Nigerians opportunity to air their view in diverse topics of national interest but some of their presenters also need to soften a little bit in the way they imitate foreign accent. |
