Since the contest is now closer to a political election than a beauty contest, I propose we totally outlaw campaigning on voting threads, especially in the final round (the round with the quiz).

zicoraads: You don't get, do you?
Do you know how many citizens of this country criticize the President on a daily basis? If we are to use your own logic, they should keep mute cos they didn't contest for the Presidency and hence lack the capacity to do so. When critics came down hard on the movie 'Half of a Yellow Sun', no one asked them why they didn't act or direct the movie. Some people are that way, and we call them 'critics'. They criticize. They don't have to be better off than those they are criticizing. And if you actually think they have to be, well...
When Agbani won the Miss World pageant, a lot of people knew she wasn't the most beautiful, it was her Q n A that gave it to her. And yes, we admire the boldness of all the ladies that participated. But I still maintain that it was somewhat a popularity contest. They are not beautful in the real sense of the word. and there you go, mixing up one type of criticism with another. Tell me, how many of those 'critics' came out to just say "that movie is rubbish" and place it in a 'fact file' just because they are critics? They always give reasons why they think it should have been done another way. No one faults them when they make sense. That's the difference between constructive criticism, and destructive criticism arrogantly dished. You criticise unintelligently, you get the stick. When people criticise the President and even insult him, it's often because they believe they know a better way he could have handled matters, in essence comparing his ideology with their own. It's the same with the movie directing critism you mentioned too. The critics believe they know how it could have been better done. How then do you think to separate the op from her criticism? Popularity contest, yes I agree. But how does that make EVERY contestant distasteful? It takes a careless mind to assume that 'beauty' has a 'REAL SENSE OF THE WORD'. OPINION and FACT are not synonyms. |

zicoraads: Why are we trying to sugar-coat what doesn't need sugar-coating. And the fact that the young lady has criticised the contestants doesn't mean she has to be preetier than them.
Truth be told, most of them won't even get to the first stage of any beauty contest. They are not beautiful. This was somewhat of a popularity contest.
Let us call a spade, a spade. almost smart... Almost... You just seem to forget that before you can literally look down on anyone, you have to be taller than the person or else climb something. If you must criticise DESTRUCTIVELY, make sure you are better off, or it's just stupidity. You also seem to be unaware that a contest is only between participants, even open ones like this. It was open to all real persons that registered before October 20. Whose fault is it possible that the likes of the op could not summon up boldness or interest (pick the one you like) to join? You can now keep the spoon you are calling a spade, you have no case, young man. |

ireneony: if this are the beautiful ladies we have on nairaland that means we Africans are not beautiful. I ve seen more beautiful ladies on nairaland that are very pretty. am so disappointed in this selection. If this is one of the smartest critics we have on nairaland, it means we Africans do not use our heads very often. It takes a great deal of thoughtlessness to presume that the contestants were SELECTED, as against willing participation. It also means that we assume that our personal opinions matter so much, even when they are empty. But I know Africans are not generally like that, so tell us op, which jungle are you typing from? PS: Have you seen your profile pic? Did no one teach you about living in glass houses and throwing stones? |

Op, I think you haven't figured out what you want from that special girl yet. You are still a bit impulsive, moved primarily by outward stuff like looks. When you get closer, you realise you want something more, but you aren't even sure what it is. The fact that it is recurring means that the problem lies with you, in your expectations.
Start by defining your expectations, and observe carefully before going in for the kill. Even vessels containing trash can be beautiful from afar. |
Romance › Re: I Get Tired Of People Easily. HELP!! by Oahray: 9:39am On Nov 08, 2014 |
Lol. I think it's related to mood/emotion swings common in teenagers and young adults, from one extreme to another. Try to look beyond the superficial when you meet people, and try not to get too close too quickly, else it would remain easy come easy go.
I'm like the exact opposite of you. Most people I know are mere acquaintances (in my books), though some may think they are in friendship zone. Only a few eventually move in. Quality over quantity for me. |
