assfreak: Accepting that you messed up by stating that people criticize because they think they are better would have at least been honourable. Can't imagine somebody having such a limited understanding about criticism. Especially somebody who thinks he is smart. Silence is indeed golden.
She was arrogant, you said? I wonder what you think arrogance is. Because, you sound arrogant too and very rude. lol. He just wants to keep the conversation alive. Oh well... Criticism isn't criticism without the existence of two standards. A higher standard which the critic FEELS he holds, and the lower standard which he PERCEIVES the criticised has. Criticism basically is voicing displeasure about the difference. If the op truly had such lofty standards of looks and style as her opening post suggests, she wouldn't have uploaded the black-and-white vignette pic she had on when she opened the thread. Seen the link yet? Yes, you are right, I can be as rude and arrogant as you like. Did it hurt? I really need to get some shut eye. Good night sire. |

assfreak: Guy, if I start with you, you will regret that last paragraph but let me leave you for now.
FYI, not all people criticize because they feel they have something better. There are factors such as philosophical views that come to bear.
In the case of beauty, there is a philosophical view known as aesthetic relativism and there is also the belief that beauty is absolute.
The OP does not necessarily feel she is better or more beautiful. It all boils down to what she feels or sees beauty to mean. It is her opinion and it supports the view that beauty is relative. smh... Stating the philosophical term for something as simple as "beauty lies in the beholder's eyes" wouldn't make you any smarter than you were some posts ago. But have it your way, there would be no further argument sire. I'd hate to start explaining my every post. She was arrogant and took stick for it. She expressed her opinion and I expressed mine. If she has the right to express herself anyway she likes, which law denied me such right? Take a chill pill. |

assfreak: Ta, I am no kid that you can play that game with.
In your last post, you made this statement: 'How then do you think to separate the op from her criticism?'
How do you separate a critic from his criticism? Tell us, please.
Don't make us think you were wholly addressing 'call a spade a spade' rant *facepalm* so I really have to explain this? Alright then. 'How then do you think to separate the op from her criticism?' is in reponse to a claim that she doesn't have to look good to go as condescending as she did on the contestants. That expression is a follow up of the part where I said people criticise because they feel they have something better. In a nutshell, her criticism of their looks stems from a feeling of superiority and thus demands superior looks to show for it. The part about fact vs opinion came last, after agreeing with the dude that popularity influenced the contest, and questioning the soundness of his view that there's a universal standard of beauty which the contestants fall short of. Yeah, you might not be a kid, but you aren't very bright either. You initially sounded like you really understood what you were challenging. It's disappointing, really. |
Romance › Re: I Dont Like Non Of Miss Nairaland Contestants by Oahray: 11:41pm On Nov 08, 2014 |
assfreak: What really are you gibbering about? The OP was simply an opinion, no less than a critic going down hard on a movie.
You sound confused. lol. I was done with this thread though. Go back and read up the conversation that led up to that post. The grouse with the op is basically her manner of criticism. The fact vs opinion part was for the person I addressed the post to, inspired by his 'call a spade a spade' rant. Don't be too quick to act like you have a clue as to what everything is about. You don't. |
