Now, I know it is easier not to be registered but TRUST ME, when I say you need it. It is for your noble intentions, maintaining integrity and dareIsay for the survival of TeHN that you must register. Here is what I suggest:

Round-off with this case of Perx you have at hand. Then do an elaborate PR campaign for TeHN- how you started, those that you have helped and how you have helped them. Thereafter, explain why you need the registration and tell people that you are looking for funds to register- in other words, TeHN needs help to help the needy.

Caveat- All my suggestions are total rubbish if you the members of TeHN do not believe you need CAC registration. Hence, I suggest you guys think about it and make a decision in-house before coming to the open floor or are you saying the decision to register or not is going to be based on what we say here? (I am asking).
Thanks mac for your input.

Lemme explain few things here. TeHN was born out of the willingness of some Nairalanders to continue offering help to the needy.  The power of decision lies with these  nairalanders who are the major shareholders. TeHN committee can be sacked today if majority of these nairalanders decide to do so or any member of the committee sacked if majority of Nairalander have a reason to do so. So TeHN committee only exists in trust of nairalanders.

I needed to say that, so you can understand why the decision to register, have a website, approve our mode of operation etc have to be taken by the committee’s boss (The nairalanders). If Nairalanders decide they do not want to go “plc”, that they are comfortable with us running our operations in house and comfortable with the current status quo then so be it. But if majority decides it is about time we get big and able to engage corporations and Govt agencies outside nairaland then we will work with it, and I guess they (Nairlanders) will be able to support/fund the registration.

Also we might need one or two more hands to join the team (subject to everyone's approval) as field officers

the criteria remains:

- Must be able to donate some of their precious time to go out and investigate cases anywhere in Nigeria
- To physically confirm and lead projects; must be in Nigeria, ready to devote time for the exercises
- Must be a regular poster on Nairaland NOT once a week poster
- Member since at least 2007 or have recommendations of at least 3 well known Nairalanders who have been members since 2007

I know toluxa1 and Gboliwe offered themselves the last time. I don't know if they are still willing and able to serve.

I believe we have couple of volunteers for the website all we have to do is follow up and see if the offer is still on the table

In the meantime, we need more volunteers for the website

Thank you all in advance
Please do you have these people's id, and can we possibly send them a PM to join our discussion here.

If it will cost us nothing/little to have/maintain, we can just have it in addition to operating from here.

While we wish perx a save/smooth operation and monitor the development and fund raising activities on the thread we opened for her, we will like to welcome discussion on the following:

1. Structural composition/arrangement and functions of each TeHN Committee member

2. TeHN terms of engagement and mode of operation for every case TeHN. We want this to be well spelt out and approved by the general house so that there will be no ambiguity when handling any case. So that both TeHN and anybody's case we are handling know what to expect.

Thank you.

Like Beaf said, you are being very unimaginative and utterly silly with your approach to this topic. People live there and it is the job of the government, the state government to be sure, to provide for the people, and if it involves building houses on water, so be it.

It is now obvious that the ACN government, the avatar of hope for Lagosians/Yoruba people, for the last decade , has become hopelessly undemocratic, unimaginative, poisoned by corruption and structurally snarled by partisan divisions. Poor Fashola, who steps up to the plate and gets handed a foam bat. One might argue that the peoples faith in ACN government's ability to improve their lives is misplaced, unfortunately.  More disgusting is the brainless excuse people like OAM4J gives for the governments incompetence and cluelessness.
Have you ever heard of the term "Town planning"? I recommend you do a study on the subject, the why, the implication, the cost etc.

And I will ignore you on this thread from now on, I do not debate with people who can not make their point across without throwing insults.

^na wa for you o beaf?

We are not talking about Japan or other countries that have shortages of land here. We have not even finished developing the landed area, you want Government to develop residential areas on top of water? Excuse me! This is still a developing country!

Even if Government should commit resources and develop the area, do you think the people currently living there will be able to afford it? Ask the former occupants of Maroko.

igbaodun:
You dont get the point, do you?

Its not Fashola's job to commission water projects, the LG should do that. In this day and age, Fashola should be commissioning bigger and bolder projects, not mundane stuff. This is the governor of Lagos state we are talking about here!!!  If we have learned anything in the last few decades, it is that  commissioning water projects to great fanfare and cutting ribbons for mundane stuff is no longer an effective measure of good governance at the state level.  We have seen that the state government aren't that great with follow-ups and maintenance; after all, they are very far away from the LG level/people most affected. As far as I can tell, good governance at the state level involves strategic planning, qualitative education and adequate healthcare and adequate & regulatory oversight on the quality of water that is produced etc, not just to a segment of the population or to the people closest to the governor and its aides, but to the whole state it its entirety.

So I'm proposing a radical shift in rhetoric: Any future project that would be commissioned by the state CEO should be well thought-out and with the whole state in mind, not just a segment, and with the view of granting more autonomy to the LG to be able to do their job, not because it is the right thing to do, but because the LG are closest to the people and know what is most needed by the people than the  highfalutin faraway state executive. Yes, when an overbearing state executive commission an overpriced waterworks, it helps the people in that locality and no doubt local government too. But let's not undermine the LG in the process.  In any ordinary moral calculus, the LG comes first and should be the one dealing with issues the Lagos State Government is ever eager to incompetently attend to, rendering the LG redundant not withstanding.
Where did you get the bold from? What stops a Governor from commissioning a project he initiated and funded even if it is just to build a "guarder" for the use of the people.

And how can 15 water projects across the state be termed "mundane stuff"? With all due respect, I think you are the one missing the point.
PoliticsRe: Beaf Help Me Out, Which Area In Lagos Do They Call Makoko. by OAM4J: 5:13am On Feb 19, 2012
People need to understand the complexity of Makoko.

Makoko is not and cannot be a residential area. It was a fishing harbor yeas ago before poverty made people turn into residential area.

Note, we are talking about an area where people live on top of water. There is no way development can go to such area as it is impossible to provide road, hospital or school on top of water.

The only solution to Makoko is to move out and rehabilitate the people living there, and you will agree with me that even the FG can not do that overnight, cos we are talking about several thousands of people. But it will happen sooner or later, government cannot/shouldn't allow people to live continuously like that, the present challenge is how to deal with the alternative cost.
