REQUEST TO OAM4J or JARUS. Based on numerous feedbacks from diverse subscribers and friends on NL of Yoruba ancestry, particularly from the Yoruba in diaspora, it has become necessary that we take a next step action in creating a highly visible repository for indexing educative materials that share on the history, culture and philosophy of the Yoruba race and its commonwealth of Nations. At the moment, NL has become one of the central points online for analysing and converging our ideas and knowledge on Yoruba history. We love that and are indeed grateful to you for accomodating our interest and tolerating our sometimes heated opinions. Your past support on this portal has made it possible for many of us to learn and acquire new knowledge about our history that would not have been so easily done otherwise. That support is very valuable and we honor it. We come to you now for assist. We currently have materials scattered in different channels of the forum - politics, culture, religion, family and so on, and we would like to index them and those created in future in a single point of access. We will nominate a moderator amongst us to manage and update collections in the index. We await a favorable response from you.
Are we expecting to have Yorubas Oba I of Nairailand ? Cant wait for that. And hopefully we will have Hausa Emir of NL etc like we have Eze Ndigbo I of Nairaland.Sure you can have a thread title "Library of Yoruba Historical Threads" or something like that. But I think it will be more appropriate to have such library in culture section. |
marcar:this your email get as he be (virus . . . ) , but I have sent it. |
oluite:Thanks. You are not late. We've only just started. |
L4GAL: santa101:Sent. |
^hehehe i wonder how many games you have played and won before getting hooked ![]() |
maclatunji:Good idea! I don't think we need to create a new thread for it. We just need to campaign for it. So join us in the campaign. @All Please lets continue to give. God bless you as you give. |
Beaf:Noted and handled. Please let us know if it continued. Thanks. |
^ Again thank you. 1. I only mention the Lagoon Hospital consultant role for the purpose of information and clarification. We all know she has gone pass pass his need now and the consultant has also rested her case. 2. What Perx is doing Now: She is having some tests and getting ready for surgery. 3. All she needs from us now is our prayers and financial supports 4. On our part we are ready to transfer all we have raised so far into her account to support what ever she and her family have for her treatment. 5. So we welcome more donations for her. |
^ Thank you. For the record, we have never objected any of her plan or effort. We are in full support of whatever she and her family want and we allow them to make all the decisions. Even when we made suggestions, we always seek her approval before working on it. Our effort to involve a generous consultant from the reputable Lagoon Hospital is purely to have a second opinion and seek some answers to some questions she and her present doctor do not have - i.e the root cause of her problem. Just that for her personal reasons which we understand and respect, she wouldn't want some details out to the public, even to some members of her family. This is why we have to be careful with what information we give out so we don't go against her wishes. |
Good move IMO. |
Our sincere Apology for the breakdown in communication. We will surely rectify things. But let me also state that we had no intention of withholding any information from you, we only needed to be sure of things before we communicate them to you so we don't sound like confused people We were planning to fly a doctor (who has been consulting with Perx for some time now free of charge) to Perx today to have a 2nd opinion on her case, but while we were working and finalizing this plan expecting to get perx approval that didn't come on time, we put a call to Perx and was surprised to be told that she had been admitted at UBTH and for some personal reasons she didn't want to tell many people. This was only yesterday. Now hearing that, you will appreciate why we didn't rush down here to update you. We needed Perx permission to inform you of the new development, so we wrote her to inform her of our need/plan to update you. She gave us the go ahead and at the same time came ahead of us to update the thread that she has been admitted at UBTH. Nonetheless, we will strife to improve our communications with you. Please find the attached: 1. The Paypal Contribution till date 2. The Contributions in Nigeria as at of 12noon today with the expenditure on the project so far. Thank you all for your contributions. Please keep it coming and we also seek you pray along with Perx.

Remember Reuben - By Dele Momodu “Not every journalist begins his career with an entrée in the nature of a slam. Journalistic careers tend to take a long, and windy route of much obscurity and misfortune, rejection and despair, and then, slowly, and accidentally, the career takes an upswing and the journalist is made and born…Exceptions to this rule are rare…Dele Momodu whose book you are holding…qualify as one of such exceptions. “Momodu has proven to be one of those over-subscribed men who appear to be in all places at all times and capable of doing anything to the best of their abilities…” That was my friend and brother, Dr Reuben Abati, Ph.D, writing an introduction to my unpublished book, DELE MOMODU, PENDULUM: essays, letters and columns, in 1997, while I was in exile in London, one clear year before Dr Goodluck Jonathan joined politics. As I remember the Reuben of those days, I weep for Nigeria. I weep because I never imagined in my wildest dream that a day would come when Reuben, our own Reuben, would be used as an attack dog, by people who are totally disconnected from reality. Reuben remains for me one of the finest products of journalism, a man I foolishly thought would add some finesse to the lacklustre occupiers of Aso Rock Presidential Villa. But the Reuben I see today is a shadow, a pitiable sight, of the old Reuben, who has confirmed the adage that a goat that keeps the company of dogs would eventually become a dog. How else can I describe Reuben’s crass crudity in his response to my last article, In Search of A Radical President? While I grant him the right of reply, it was cruel to have brought my dear and innocent wife, Mobolaji, into the whitewash of his boss. I was aware he was under fire from everyone. His friends are grumbling aloud that this is not the Reuben they used to know. There are also rumblings from his employers that he was not pulling his weight and I have been one of his sympathisers. His employers are suspecting that he’s worried for his battered reputation, and thinking he might dump them if the heat gets too hot. They need not worry because our friend has crossed the Rubicon. He’s at a point of no return. But why would Reuben ever drag my wife (a woman who had fed us all in our poverty-stricken days) in the mud? This is the only reason I’m responding to his diatribe. He knows in his heart that Nigerians are too smart to accept his assessment of Goodluck Jonathan. I expected a journalist and lawyer of his standing to check his facts but he was in a hurry to cast aspersions on my wife by subscribing to the rumour that she did not vote for me on election-day. Channels Television and BISCON Tv accompanied us to the voting centres and can bear witness to what happened that day. My wife and I voted in different Wards within the same school. Why won’t a wife I married properly vote for me? Beyond that, INEC recorded over 26,000 votes for me nationwide despite not having unrestricted access to public funds like Dr Abati’s boss. I would want Reuben to tell the world if indeed he and his two wives voted for President Jonathan. I doubt it, unless he was a fake critic. I can’t think of Obama’s spokesman bringing the wife of a journalist into an argument. Is this what power does to otherwise sensible men? How would posterity remember Reuben? I guess: A man who voluntarily set fire to everything he ever wrote. Shame! Source: http://lindaikeji..com/2012/02/reuben-abati-vs-dele-momodu.html#more |
I used to be a HUGE fan of Reuben Abati. His weekly piece used to be my "cocaine" i'd read it over and over. I couldn't do without it. I bought newspapers just to read his piece and after I left naija I'd go online just to catch him but honestly I literally feel like crying for what my "mentor" has turned out to be today. If I was God I'd have taken him out while he was a honored man and let his life be celebrated like other lost journalist (may their honorable souls rip) than watching all his hard earned respect and integrity go down the drain this way. I'm sad! Btw: I can never trust any other journalist no more.
I understand how you feel bro. Abati made Guardian newspaper ticked. His pieces were golden, the frank talks, his critical thought provoking questions, his in depth analysis, the simplicity of his writings, his satires. . . Oh God save him! Is this what power does to otherwise sensible men? How would posterity remember Reuben? I guess: A man who voluntarily set fire to everything he ever wrote. Shame! |
He said openely that he would not be contesting in 2015. But then, men of honour are rare ![]() |
