TheSuperNerd: Rivers Utd were well funded but were never at any point gonna be bigger than Enyimba. Enyimba is clearly Nigeria's biggest clubside. They are the Man City/Man Utd of Nigeria.
Enyimba were barely third in the regular season (escaped over Akwa Utd) and were favored in the abridged league barely escaping with the title due to Goals difference over Remo Stars. Like Robosky02 said, the fatigue/burn out from continental assignments of Rivers and Bendel affected how that abridged league turned out.
How did Finidi's Enyimba fare on the continent? How did they fare in the AFL? Don't act like we don't have new champions in the NPFL season after season. Even Ocean Boys' Maurice Cooreman once won the NPFL yet never came close to the Super Eagles job. .........fatigue?! LOL! Madrid are in Semi of UCL and they are still topping La Liga. Fatigue won't fly here bro. Rivers were knocked out in the quarter final of CAF CC. Bendel Insurance?! Did they even make it pass 2nd Preliminary Round of CAF CC?! |

Amunike coached both Julius Berger and Ocean Boys, today both clubs are dead.
Tanzania's Qualification to AFCON under Amunike is a fluke. Also it wasn't their first ever time cos they played AFCON in 1980.
Can someone point to a National Men Football Team or Club that Amunike had successfully coached?! |

TheSuperNerd: Finidi was literally on the verge of being sacked by same Enyimba at one point. He won the league last season thanks to the abridged version and the help of Ukaegbu and others who prepped the team even when Finidi was away on NT duty.
Enyimba finished 3rd in Group A of the regular season behind Remo Stars and bendel insurance who were much better in the league compared to Enyimba. The abridged version just played out in Enyimba's favour. Infact, had Akwa Utd (tied with Finidi's Enyimba on 32 pts) had a better Goals difference, it would have been something different.
Truth is we are giving all the credits to Finidi to boost him up but the main minds behind Enyimba's plays and training are Emeka Okwandu, Ifeanyi Harcourt and Lawrence Ukaegbu.
Finidi is coaching the most prestigious and richest club in Nigeria with several of the best players in the league while being away on NT duty when it calls. It's a piece of cake. A better coach will be topping the league with Enyimba and wrapping up the league. Not playing second fiddle to Fidelis Illechukwu (a guy I consider a better tactician than Finidi anyway). He gave the reason why he couldn't do well in his first season. He wanted to play free flow, attacking football but this is not Spain. He tried it, forced it but didn’t work out for him hence had to twerk it. Did he win the League last season?! Yes. Is he consistent and may possibly win this season?! Yes. Enyimba last won the league in 2019, thus let's give Finidi his flowers. Rivers United were well funded and Gov. Wike motivated them with every resource available to win the league in 2023. |

Finidi has proved him winning the NPFL last season ain't a fluke. Very rare in the league to win and still a favourite the following season.
As at today, Finidi's Enyimba is 2 points behind the League Leader, Enugu Rangers. Finidi played free flow, attacking football in his first season at Enyimba but the clud didn't do well.
He played 4 - 4 - 2 Formation in his first season, but twerked it to 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 in his 2nd season, improve the defence and won the league.
Imagine Osimhen and Boniface upront, flank by Lukman and perhaps Iwobi [except Chukz up his game in GWG] in a 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 formation?! |

komekn: KC had been impotent for several years should not be in the conversation with regards to the SE.
Why can't Boniface be contending with VO for the number 9 position, is that sacrilege to suggest. I think Boniface brings something different that VO doesn't have a team should not be one dimensional. KC that couldn't bench Vardy till now, even at Championship Level is someone they are rating ahead of Lookman. Lookman is balling in Serie A with Atalanta. He balled well for Eagles at the AFCON yet we should bench him for KC. Boniface is an exceptional player this season for Leverkusen, but what has he achieved with Eagles that makes him better than Lookman in the team?! Sentiment and this thread eh! Once you are a favourite, they would be seeing you as incarnation of Pele, Maradona, Cryuff and so on. LOL! |

komekn: The best thing to happen to Nigerian football ⚽ in a long time.
For once a man of unquestionable integrity, it's better to lose righteously than to win dubiously.
There is talk of he doesn't have a UEFA pro license. It's a baseline of competence but it's not competence in itself. It's like have a driving licence ( in most countries you have to pass a test ) however it doesn't make you a an excellent driver.
You can have a BSc in business management and be clueless about how to run a business.
My only concern, is sabotage and contentions. The NFF for generations have a deep seated culture of corruption, nepotism, favouritism, godfatherism, will the powers that be give FINIDI a free hand to manage and select his team.
I think he should choose his own backroom staff and not accept the ones the NFF will impose on him.
Great 👍🏿 news Valid 100% |

Amedino99: this is a shameful thing to admit. You don't remember finidi winning the Npfl . Its a Naija Thing. My way or no way. Finidi gets the job on merit, and absolutely more qualified than the favorite. He managed Men to win a trophy, Men against Men, not boys against boys. |

Kog45: Finidi had two matches as super eagles coach beating arch rival Ghana and losing to Mali but to you he is poor with just two matches haba Oga humility I really don't understand the unnecessary uproars over Finidi's appointment on this board. He played 2 friendlies, win one, lose one. Win the most important one, coz its more or less W. Africa El-Classico. Finidi has proved himself in Nigeria as well, he had something to point at as his Achievement in the country. He managed men not boys to win a trophy, not just in few matches but a marathon of matches. He played good football with Enyimba FC, followers of NPFL can testify to it, so what the fuss?! We shouldn't be digging his grave like we expect him to die early. Allow the man to breathe and live. He gets it on merit. |

United must sell, release half of the squad, if indeed we mean business. The following players must leave at end of season. Rashford Martial Eriksen Casemiro Antony Varane Shaw Malacia Lindelof Wan Bisaka None of them deserves another season again. Also, we do not need to breach FFP to refix the Squad. Bring following players to Pre-season from U18; Amass, Wheatley, Habeeb, Jackson, Lacey and Fletcher Brothers, we may get like 3 to 4 ready for first team football. At U21 level, Kambwala, Omari have proved to be promising. I have not seen Oyedele in action much like that, but I have interest in him. Dan Gore deserves a shot, Fish should be given another opportunity to step up or out. On loan players; A. Fernandez and Williams also should be given second chance to step up or out. DVB...sigh! If he wants to fight, why not?! Pelletri, Hannibal, Shoretire and Sancho deserve another season at the club. I strongly believe we don't need to spend £200m+ on 2 average players like Chelsea did with Enzo and Caicedo. Neither do we want to break banks for players below average like Mudryk, Disasi, Fofana, Maduekwe, Nico Jackson and rest Chelsea players. |
