After the aircraft landed at the Lagos Airport , ATC Aviation Services asked the aircraft to hold for traffic reasons. However, while the aircraft was holding, some thieves popped out from the bush and opened the cargo hold door, stealing a bag. According to airport standard procedure, there should be an escort van to tail all arriving and departing aircraft prior take-off or entry into the ramp. But there were no vehicles to escort this aircraft. This is not the first time in recent years that an aircraft will be robbed at the airport. In February 2018, burglars attacked an Air Peace Boeing 737 aircraft at the airport while it was taxiing for takeoff to Abuja. A similar incident also happened in December 2017 when a private jet conveying Wizkid and Tiwa Savage from Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, was robbed at the airport while taxiing on the runway. The lucky man, Skirmantas Strimaitis, who was flying from capital Vilnius to the northern Italian city of Bergamo for a skiing holiday March 16, had the whole 188-passenger plane to himself. The only others onboard were two pilots and five crew members. The Novaturas travel agency said it had chartered the plane to fly a group home from Italy, and to avoid flying empty ,it offered one-way tickets and only Strimaitis bought one ticket. Obviously , the driver of the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG fueled up and simply forgot to remove the nozzle,unlike in Nigeria, where the petrol attendants does the job for you . The driver must have then drove off, cutting the hose in half and probably leaving the filling station covered in highly-flammable petrol. The upgrade package covers the cost of bringing the RMAF’s 23 existing F-16C/D Block 52+ aircraft up to the F-16V standard. The military deal, according to Defense News, is Morocco’s second largest purchase from the US after a November 2018 agreement for new Abrams tanks. The 374 capacity aircraft, christened “Anuli Peggy Onyema”, was received by the Chairman of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema and other top aviation personnel,after touching down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 3.20p.m on Wednesday. Onyema told newsmen that Air Peace had taken delivery of its first and second B777 aircraft in February and August 2018 respectively. He added that one more aircraft was being expected before the end of the year to boost the airline’s international operations. According to him, the Federal Government has granted approval to Air Peace to begin flights to six international destinations, which are London, Dubai, Sharjah, Guangzhou-China, Mumbai and Johannesburg. “We thank God that we have taken delivery of the third B777 aircraft in preparation for our international operations.Onyema said that Air Peace had created 3,000 direct jobs and 6,000 ancillary jobs for Nigerians, stressing that the newly acquired B777-300 aircraft would create an additional 1,500 jobs.
