BabsO2: But GTB still grew deposits faster than other big banks last year except for UBA that grew the most (perhaps due to foreign ops). What else can one use to measure reliability or likeability of service than rate of deposit growth ? Well, I can't figure out what's going with GTB right now, but I hope the HOLDCO agreement isn't affecting them. A lot of internal restructuring might be happening to Fastrack the HOLDCO arrangement. |

BabsO2: https://doclib.ngxgroup.com/Financial_NewsDocs/33077_GUARANTY_TRUST_BANK_PLC%20_QUARTER_1_%20_FINANCIAL_STATEM.pdf
GTB profits have dropped by 10%. Traced to a huge drop in interest income. Will be interesting to see the review of the analysts from the broking houses. Stock prices may dip in the coming days and weeks especially if Zenith follows with a similar pattern of results.
UBA results will be seen more as audio profits . Till UBA shakes body and pay correct dividends in line with reported profits like GTB and Zenith that pay nearly half of profits in dividends. GTB has been messing up lately. Even their banking service is no longer reliable. |

klas: NASD is also a Nigerian stock exchange based in Lagos and transactions there are done in naira.
NGX Group is listed at N25 but gained a bit on the first trading day to rise to N25.19
There may be NASD in other countries, but the one in question is Nigerian-owned. NASD is an Over The Counter [“OTC”] exchange. It is not a standard exchange like NYSE, LSE, and NGX. Why would NGX Group list its shares on an OTC instead of NGX? |

emmasoft: My brother leave that one. They have always have it. Even if you bought public offer you notice there is account number on the form why are they not using it. There are things beyond us here the ordinary people when it comes to unclaimed dividends. Anyway efforts are on to make the whole process seamless but before then investors have to chase dividend themselves. Why should investors always be chasing dividends? Since is I started investing in US stock with TROVE, I get dividends paid regularly into my account. |

emmasoft: Stockbrokers mainly is to give you a platform to trade stocks/equities or trade on your behalf. Dividend is between investor and the company you invested in with registrars as middle man to facilitate the record keeping and payment.
The collection of dividend is not part of the regular duties of stockbroking firms as stipulated by law. However, individual clients can give authority to his/her stockbroker to do the chasing of dividends and that comes with a fee.
To put the issues of dividend behind always fill a transfer form and send to your broker after purchase of a stock and give at least 10 working days before you send mandate to the registrars otherwise your mandates get to the registrar and no specimen signature to compare with.
By the way it's cscs that process your transfer form not the broker it only pass through the broker to cscs. When filling the transfer form always write the quantity bought at a deal if you bought in trenches.
If you already have a specimen signature always send a mail to the registrar to mandate any new purchase with the current mandate. Some registrars do it automatically especially if it's same CHN others will require a mail before they can mandate new purchases. Well, one reason for the latest KYC Update between CSCS and Brockers is to enable registrars to get shareholders' information for payment of dividends and bonuses. |

Omoadetide: Someone once said they do this on purpose to discourage people from claiming their dividends and it sure looks like that. In many other countries, you don't need to track dividend payment dates or chase registrars to get your dividend. That automatically goes to your stockbroking account from where you bought the stock in the first place and then you choose if to reinvest it or have it paid out to your registered bank account.
That doesn't sound like rocket science, but This is Nigeria! That true, I remember when they still send dividends by post, most dividends always come late we have to revalidate to claim them, some people never got dividends still date. |

Omoadetide: It's sad that investors have to worry about getting dividends when it should be sorted out between company registrar & stockbroker. Hopefully at some point, the Securities commission can get the registrars and stockbrokers to sort out this BS. With all the several KYC we have been doing, why cant the registrars get linkup with CSCS and Brokers to sort out this problem. |

Yes it can rise the next year but in the mean time you are also stuck with tied up cash Not true, If you get a 12% dividend yield and the stock loses 11%. Your dividend yield will increase. |
