To buy stocks yourself, you must have a broker.

But with mutual fund you don't need a broker.

The mutual fund manager simply invest your money into different stocks and pay you dividends from he fund.

On a side note, I read with amusement the many outcry of a likely stock market Armageddon from some members here.
Well, I have learnt that such outcry are a pivotal part of what makes for the dynamic nature of the market !!
Simply put, we need such outcry and maybe more to help 'rake down' juicy assets to juicy destinations. wink cheesy grin

"Back in the spring of 1720, Sir Isaac Newton owned shares in the South Sea Company, the hottest stock in England. Sensing that the market was getting out of hand, the great physicist muttered that he ' could calculate the motions of the heavenly bodies, but not the madness of the people.'
Isaac Newton, forgot the People controls the market and these People can be irrational.

Meshpip's much-touted volume adjusted price is just like the VWAP you know.

Look at it this way:

People buy stock A at different prices (high, low, close) and volumes

Let's say (P= Price and V=volume)

So over the course of a period (say 1 hour, 2 hours etc till a day), you see

P1...... V1
P2...... V2
P3....... V3
....
....
....
Till Pn..... Vn

So the VWAP = [Sum (P1V1 + P2V2 + P3V3 +....... +PnVn)] /Sum(V1 + V2 + V3 + Vn)

This computation will give you the Volume weighted Average Price which can be higher or lower than the closing price.

For his "almighty formula" , it involves you repeating this for the particular time frame you are monitoring. Instead oif doing per day, you sum today with the previous day and continue adding till you get the final cumulative value.

Divide this value with the cumulative volume for the period.

Remember each line of the day must have been a cumulative for the previous other ones. That way you be getting a price which he termed "volume adjusted" grin

Then for the entire period modelled, he will then use Bell curve to distribute it normally by finding the Mean price and the standard deviation.

There is nothing there! Just an academic exercise which has its limitations.

In a sharp and lasting bullish market, it just doesn't work. Example is Google. Will the price every revert to its mean?

Other limitation is the access to price data.

A company like FBN can easily revert to its mean because there are events that js making it lose value.

And I believe that was why he said UACN was a BUY grin because UACN had been having price RISE in the past and which automatically will make the Mean to be high. So as price dropped probably many standard deviation below the Mean, he thought it was a buy grin

FA know why.

So you can't use that in isolation in determining asset prices.

BBM, don't let me bore you with academic exercise.

I just wanted to prove to him that I no dey run for number crunching.
I trust you .

But the market no send number crunching o.

The market is very irrational.

I think this is a practical example that would help people understand the TIME VALUE OF MONEY.

18,500 in 1997 (or 2009) cannot in anyway be equal to 18,500 in 2019.

@jamace, I told you that THEORIES have practical applications.

Life is good!
Agree, but it is either the value as gone down (Japul, Dunlop) or gone up( Dangote flour).

Pls house I need clarification on this, my dad bought a shares of 18500 since 1997, due to the way the company was doing then, he wrote a letter in 2009 for refund. Now the company came to us today that they want to refund the 18500 today without any dividends. Is this right? Pls put me through
We can only assist you if you provide the name of the company, to know if they are listed on the NSE.

Politics › Re: Buhari’s Food Importation Ban Could Drag The Nigerian Economy Into Misery by OBAGADAFFI: 6:17pm On Aug 15, 2019
SillyMods:
Disgraceful youths.

Buhari has proved to be wiser and smarter than our so-called economists who know nothing about practicals but theory.

Many times Buhari has floored them on economics matter:

1. During the debate to fully float the Naira against the president's position not to do so, Buhari was eventually proved correct by attaining exchange rate stability without floating the currency.

2. PMB, against noise and wailing banned access to 42 items including toothpicks to save dollars. Today, most of those items are locally produced thereby creating local jobs and increasing wealth for the entrepreneurs who took adantage.

This time, the best president in Nigeria's history says that in a bid to encourage local food producers and make them competitive, the CBN should not provide dollars to food importers. Wailers and wailing zombies are masturbating and bringing up voodoo economics to tell us why it is wrong for the president to say/do so. Please tell us how best to encourage local production if not by making them more competitive? How can people produce locally if the imported goods remain cheap or slightly dearer?

Una no get sense I swear. And this senseless thinking is being led by a wannabe presidential candidate who was a deputy governor of CBN when GEJ sacked Sanusi. The idiot stood by GEJ. He was also alive when Jona the fisherman was ordering Emefiele to release billions of dollars for looting (in the name of fighting insurgency) but kept quiet.

IPOBites and sense are words and their opposite.

You want Nigeria to be like China, Korea, Japan, etc, but you don't want to take the hard decisions! Hypocrites and unpatriotic souls.
Typical BUHARIST, insults everybody with making any point.
