I think one of major problem of Nigeria is the SIZE.

For instance,if Nigeria can't provide 24hrs electricity in just one state out of 36 after 57yrs of independence,that means in the next 200yrs nationwide steady power supply in 36 states may still be elusive.

Most African countries with little size are enjoying steady power today. The newest to join the list is Rwanda. Was it British rule that did it for them?

I think SIZE played a major role. With little size administration and management can be made easy. No African country is advanced enough to properly handle bigger population like China or the USA.

Very good point about size but that is why there is Local Government Areas... that was the whole idea - the size can be managed by each local government area... each LGA could even hv its own police division --- why aren't they thinking of all these We have a large population instead of them to use it for good they use it for yahoo yahoo and blame the govt.

Note the number of Nigerians that have been arraigned in UK in recent times for fraud, misleading people etc... they get stiff sentences - this is due to cultural incompatibility - those naija guys that went there thought they were still in Nigeria... and that lieing to the government or to ppl was not a serious offence... its the culture...

Resource and development contracts will be signed.

China would be in charge of the infrastructure projects.

The truth is....One of the best eras ever in Nigeria was in the seventies, after the war, not under British rule.

I have lived in Nigeria Britain middle east and North America. This suggestion is the best for Nigeria.

The best thing British influence can bring to Nigeria is a culture of honesty and punctuality.

There is no shame in admitting this! Nigerians need exposure to a better culture in this regard.

Note that the British continue to learn from all the Nigerians living in Britain the good things our own culture has to offer.

The schools were working and high quality. Today only University of ibadan and university of lagos are of acceptable standard. The Yorubas started leaving Nigeria on time to Britain so it reflects.

It has changed from 1000 yrs ago because women work and contribute which is a good thing and also because of all other things mentioned - it has shifted from a partriarchial institution to an equalist institution and in some countries like Sweden a martriarchial instutution where women call the shots in the marriage.

The original question is the traditional marriage of 1000 yrs ago still necessary or even important today if the lady can bail any time (over 75% of divorces are initiated by the woman).

1. Men used to bear all financial responsibility. Now wives are expected to work and to take care of themselves and contribute.

2. Marriages happen later on average giving both parties an opportunity to play the field first and not feel tied down. Loyalty is not the norm as people can change their minds even after marriage. This means more mate variety. 'Open marriage' seems to describe the new social construct?

3. Child and home responsibility are no longer for the woman alone. Guys are now expected to clean the home, cook and take care or children as equally as the woman does.

I think the contract has changed to give ladies a better deal though at the risk of some promiscuity.

Has the marriage contract changed for the better? Is marriage still relevant? Should marriage be replaced with open partnerships instead?
