I agree!!! The solution is compulsory driver education and psychiatric evaluation for ALL commercial bus drivers.

Someone propose this to your government of your state. I weep for innocent souls being claimed daily.

they wont service their cars and "put it in the hand of God"; when it happens they blame demons.

The fact that Nigerians learn no lessons shows they are less than lower animals. Why is everyone overspeeding. Nigerian roads continue to claim lives because Nigerians drive one way, drive recklessly, dangerous overtaking, dangerous overtaking at sharp bendings, do not wait for people, etc and "put everything in the hand of God"

It is high time Nigerians themselves come up with their own solution to this problem - government is not omni present.... They should be able to govern themselves they arent animals.

Go to YouTube type Patrick Brown and watch a few videos and see how responsible govt are run.

Then go to any developed country and see how ppl behave u will see why naija is how it is.

Enter any Lagos bound flight from Europe, people start to insult the air hostesses, ask them for their phone numbers, fight u for tilting ur seat back and people exchanging insults.

Surely it's not just the government.... we need a cultural diffusion.

We are suffering from internal colonialism. Nigeria's useless corrupt leaders have colonised the docile slaves that occupy this geographical area.

Oil wealth meant benefit 180 million people has been cornered by the various leaders and shared among their family friends(Indimi),wife hairdressers(Alakija) and concubines.

Nigeria is witnessing the greatest theft ever experienced my any civilisation by it's leaders at Federal,State and Local goverment level. At least if the British were here they would have developed the railways and given us 24 hour electricity.
Exactly... and they would have brought basic civility...

pls read my last post... and tell me how looting is related to poor discipline on the road. Canada has one of the worst weathers in the world yet we don't see people driving nonsense....

Let us be honest and stop giving excuses. that high number of accidents occurred because the average Nigerian is a reckless driver.... so how can Nigeria get better?

Lets stop blaming leaders.

Something is def wrong with the ppl. Even federal road safety (not me!) recently recommended psychiatric evaluation for road traffic offenders.

ladies and gentlemen, please tell me if the accident figures below is as a result of colonialism, government or if Nigerians themselves are to be blamed. the government did build roads, even if the roads are bad people should drive "according to road conditions" - is the average Nigerian mad? The black man has proven that they are animals that need strong handed governance. even when UK was visa free Nigerians started abusing it. If you are on a plane to Nigeria, all the flights will be good once you get on the final leg to Nigeria, all manner of problems arises. anyway look at the official govt stats below and tell me who is to blame... is it not the Nigerian who is unable to govern himself - howcome other countries less developed than Nigeria hv better road stats.

The National Bureau of Statistics on Monday said Nigeria recorded 1,279 deaths in 2,503 road crashes in the second quarter of this year.

The NBS in its road transport report which was made available to our correspondent blamed speed violation as a major reason for the road crashes.

This, it added, accounted for 44.4 per cent of the total road accident during the period.

It said loss of control and dangerous driving followed closely as they both accounted for 12.92 per cent and 8.06 per cent of the total road crashes recorded.

The report reads in part, “A total of 8,270 Nigerians got injured in the road traffic crashes recorded. 7,805 of the 8,270 Nigerians that got injured, representing 94 per cent of the figure, are adults while the remaining 465 Nigerians, representing six per cent of the figure are children.

“6,217 male Nigerians, representing 75 per cent, got injured in road crashes in Q2 while 2,053 female Nigerians, representing 25 per cent, got injured.

“Similarly, a total of 1,279 Nigerians got killed in the road traffic crashes recorded in Q2. 1,207 of the 1,279 Nigerians that got killed, representing 94 per cent of the figure, are adults while the remaining 72 Nigerians, representing six per cent of the figure are children.

“1,022 male Nigerians, representing 80 per cent, got killed in road crashes in Q2 while 257 female Nigerians, representing 20 per cent got killed.”

The report put the vehicle population in Nigeria as of the second quarter at 11,506,863.

It said with the total population of the country currently at 193,392,517, Nigeria’s vehicle per population ratio is now 0.06.

Further breakdown from the category of vehicles involved in road crashes in the second quarter showed that 58.59 per cent or 2,363 are commercial, 40.22 per cent or 1,622 are private, 1.14 per cent or 46 are government and the remaining two belonged to diplomats.

It said the Federal Capital Territory recorded the highest number of road crashes in the second quarter. This, it added, was closely followed by Kaduna and Niger states while Borno and Bayelsa states recorded the least.
Politics / 1279 Killed In Auto Crash In 3 Months - Explain How Its Governments Fault by Obalende: 2:02pm On Aug 03, 2017
Government has built roads, Nigerians drive recklessly on it then blame govt! If you have read this post tell everyone you know and let them too spread it so that this can reduce. Praying before you embark on your journey is only 50% the solution; the other 50% is what is causing these casualties.

Nigerian leaders should not be shy to ask for international help... this is leadership best practice and should be more aggressive in delivery... less 10 yr plans and more 3 month plans....

I think this is common sense that well meaning Nigerians will agree with...

Also Nigerians should improve their compliance...

Exactly! Bermuda Government is doing well. We can hire from there if Nigerians want someone with black skin color though I don't care about skin color.

But Nigerians also cheat themselves! Through causing accidents thru one way driving, having fake ids, conspiring to steal, etc all these things make Nigeria bad so I would split the blame 50% Nigeria Government, 50% people... the people need a change of mentality too.... I say this with all due respect...

You mentioned Local govt? Are u aware that LGAs in Nigeria are not allowed to build Power plant or construct or repair Federal roads that crossed their area even if they have the money? Any power generated at state or local level will have to be sent to national grid.

Your proposal will be counterproductive because inviting Britain to re-colonize us means to approve Britain to plunder our land. They can't come here without satisfying their interest. In fact your preferred country Britain is notorious worldwide for looting and plundering.

Lastly another problem will be after u are done with Britain getting them to leave won't be that easy.Remember the Scots, the voluntary joined Britain now it's proving difficult to leave the Union. The English don't want to leave them anymore. The Scots are stocked

Good points
Britain GDP is 2.619 trillion USD (2016)
Nigeria GDP 405.1 billion USD (2016)

What will they loot that Nigerians will not loot? At least they hv a sense of responsibility dat is lacking in Nigeria.... there is no motive for them to loot anything - there will be a sharing formula...

How can a person confuse canada with nigeria ?
I am not an expert in canadian history, but it seems to me that canada was built in the same manner as the usa: it was a complete takeover of the lands of the indegenous people. And that take over was done by britain. The migrants were from numerous european countries but they all swore loyalty to the king or queen of england. Up to today the queen of england is also the queen of canada. So in essence canada is an extension of britain. Canada is a real country eventhough it was built by a great injustice.

Interesting...

Let me explain nigeria to you: nigeria is not a country and we all know it, although whenever a tribe or an alliance of tribes have their man in power, those tribes will staart shouting "one nigeria or death", the minute they are not in power their "patriotism" dies as well.
Nigeria is a little bit like game of thrones: several noble houses fighting not to move the union into higher developpement but to subdue each other and to capture each other's wealth.
Britain is not an artificial country it is still using its own indigenous institutions which have been around for thousnads of years and have grown in strenght. In britain the law actually means something and even a prime minister can go to prison for comitting a felony. The solution to your "nigerian problem" seems very simple : go back to your precolonial countries which have thousands of years of history.
british people are not more honnest in any stretch of the imagination, but they do have a fonctional country with strong institutions and laws and order because they have a real country, not an artificial one.
this is a good thought but they are certainly more honest - Nigerians are liars any attempt to argue over this one is just a refusal to humbly accept the truth... Nigerians are chronic liars and lieing is ingrained in the culture - british culture is more honest and lying is frowned upon.

you make a good arguments about country artificiality.... Canada is an artificial country made up of immigrants yet its functional so I do not see this as a strong point. the original Canadians are aborigines - as we speak the Canadian minister for immigration is a former Somali refugee...
