They actually took three - Poverty is the third. To belong entirely to the church, to seek not after no material wealth. A priest or any religious person by this vow is not even suppose to be looked up to by his/her family for material contribution. It is to be assumed he/she has nothing. Priesthood is a call to serve and like that write up has rightly said, who struggles to serve? Who struggles to be a servant? It is clear that the priests behind the rebellion are materialistic people and do not have loyalty to their vows as a motive.

Diocesan priests do not take the vow of poverty.. Only Religious priests like Dominicans, Franciscans, Holy ghost priests and the rest take the vow of poverty.

Diocesan priests are allowed to keep proceeds from their handiworks like books, salaries for the priests that lectures in universities and so on. That's why priests like Fr. Ede can afford to own Madonna and Caritas Universities.

But Religious priests must surrender their earnings to the community (Religious priests live in a community of priests). The community then gives them a stipend from the earnings.

Ojukwu never acknowledged Gowon as CIC. He still referred to him with his Old rank.

I'm sure you approach your pastor to pray for you at times. We do too but we go a step further by inviting angels and saints to pray for us also.

If you believe in life after death.. If you believe in heaven.. but do not believe in the communion of saints.. Then there's something wrong with your beliefs

The church is pretty cautious about the third revelation of Lucia, the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate heart and a lot of details about 13th October, 1917.

I'm appalled by the fact that politics is eating deep into the heart of the Vatican.

But that notwithstanding, The Canonisation of Francisco and Jacinta is long overdue.

After the ceremony, they are included in the list of recognized saints of the church.

Before I go into the roles of the Saints of the church, I'll give you the basic synopsis.

There's the Triumphant church. Those who have successfully ran the earthly race and made heaven.

While those of us here on earth still trying to make the cut are the militant church.

The church believes in the communion of saints (A fellowship between the triumphant church and the militant church). The church believes these dead Christians who have made heaven can pray and intercede on our behalf.

When someone is canonised by the church, the church is simply affirming its strong believe that the person is in Heaven (There are rigorous steps the church takes to ascertain this) and invites the militant church to ask for their intercessions.

on 13th may, 1917 in a small town called Fatima in Portugal, The blessed Virgin Mary appeared to 3 children who were herding their sheep.

Fransisco and Jacinta died shortly afterwards.. But Lucia lived a remarkably long life and died in the 2005.

Yesterday was the 100 years anniversary of the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin to these 3 children. An important celebration for all Marian Crusaders.

Fransisco and Jacinta have been beatified earlier. But were canonised yesterday as saints of the church.
