FIVE POINTS BACKGROUND Nnewi, more than any other town in Nigeria has the most number of millionaires per 10 family units. From time immemorial, Nnewi boys become rich so early in life to the bewilderment of natives of other towns and tribes. In ignorance of what drives an Nnewi man, outsiders ascribe this phenomenon as “Ọgwụ Ego” or “Ego Ọbala” meaning “blood money”. From the foundation of the town, murder or ritual killing known as "igbu ọchụ" is treated as a horrendous abomination. When an Nnewi man, no matter his standing, is suspected of wilfully killing a fellow human being, he is expected to run away from the town and shall never be allowed to return until 7 years have elapsed. It is called “ịgba ọsọ ọchụ”. This also applies to killings resulting from fights, provocation or even a murder of someone caught atop of the killer’s wife. If any person is suspected of using juju to kill someone for ritual purposes, the following procedure is followed: The person is formally confronted with his offence. 2. If he admits, then he is chased out of the town after being stripped naked and taken around the main markets of his village. 3. The funeral rites especially the release of canon shots are performed and the offender is said to have been sent off to the land of the dead while alive, an act known as “ịkwa mmadụ na ndụ”. He will never enter Nnewi town again. The offenders usually die thereafter or become hardened criminals in another town. 4. Should the accused deny the offence, he is taken to a seer or diviner who will either indict or exonerate him. If he is indicted, he will never get home. His house will be set ablaze by the youths and he will be taken round the town naked and be driven out of the town after his funeral has been conducted while he is alive. 5. Alternatively, the accused is asked to swear by a powerful deity. He must choose between swearing by Ogwugwu or Udo. The guilty must die after four market days otherwise the accused is adjudged innocent. Killing a human being for riches is alien to Nnewi. In fact, people openly ask rich men to account for the sources of their wealth before such men are allowed to execute any public project. DISCLOSURE I am an Nnewi prince. I was born in Nnewi and I never left Nnewi until i was done with my Master’s Degree. I went to primary school and secondary school in my village and would always return home during holidays while in the university. I have not applied for and neither has any member of my nuclear family applied or received citizenship of another country. My parents and their own parents hailed from Nnewi hence I am an Original Onye Nnewi (OON). WHAT DRIVES AN NNEWI MAN I have tried to highlight below some of the inherent factors that drive a typical Nnewi man. 1. LACK OF ENOUGH FERTILE SOIL Nnewi has no alluvial soil for bumper harvest of agricultural products. Most agricultural endeavours in Nnewi are at the subsistence level. There are pockets of animal husbandry but not big enough to make one so wealthy hence anyone desirous of wealth has to be innovative. Also, because necessity is the mother of invention, our people took to trade and have inculcated the acts of trading in the sub-consciousness of their children. It is now etched in the DNA of every child born of Nnewi parents. An Nnewi man can sell a repackaged devil to an unwary pastor. He can also trade with and make profit from the meanest of the tribes. 2. SWEWED INHERITANCE SHARING FORMULAR IN FAVOUR OF THE FIRST SON Any Nnewi male child knows that the first son practically inherits the father’s wealth. Other children get a small fraction of the share of first son; that is, if their father shared his wealth before dying, otherwise everybody is at the mercy of the first son. Nobody questions the first son on how much of his father’s wealth he decides to share or keep for himself. In fact, the first son assumes hundred per cent of the father’s business while his brothers are expected to go find their destiny. Given this scenario, our boys grow up to know that they are on their own and should work hard to make it in life. continue reading: at https://www.anaedoonline.com/2019/03/14/nnewi/ lalasticlala

Behold the FIRST NIGERIAN MILLIONAIRE, Sir Louis Odumegwu-Ojukwu. Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, KBE, (1909– September 1966) was a Nigerian business tycoon from the Ojukwu family of Nwakanwa quarters, Obiuno-Umudim, Nnewi. Sir Louis, who was considered the wealthiest person in Nigeria at the time, was Nigeria's first recorded Millionaire; and was the founder of Ojukwu Transport, Ojukwu Stores and Ojukwu Textiles. At his peak, he was the first and founding President of The Nigerian Stock Exchange as well as President of The African Continental Bank. He was also either Chairman or on the board of directors of some of Nigeria's most profitable companies such as Shell Oil Nigeria Limited, Guinness Nig. Ltd, Nigerian National Shipping Lines, Nigerian Cement Factory, Nigerian Coal Corporation, Costain West Africa Ltd, John Holt, Nigerian Marketing Board amongst others. He won a parliamentary seat during the nation's first republic. He attended a primary school in Asaba and the Hope Waddell Institute. His son Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was a Nigerian military Governor and the President of the secessionist state of Biafra. Life and career In 1936, he met Bishop John Cross Anyogu - then a parish priest at Nnewi. Louis was a Roman Catholic. Ojukwu started his professional career at the Agricultural department before leaving to join John Holt as a tyre sales clerk. He also incorporated a textile company in Onitsha to supplement his income during this period, already exhibiting a little bit of his entrepreneurial spirit. While at John Holt, he noticed the severe strain a lack of adequate transportation had on Eastern textile traders. He later left John Holt to create a transport company to improve the trading environment for Nigerian traders. As a transporter he was a tireless worker and meticulous to detail; he was usually the first to inspect his transport vehicles for oil and leakages. Apart from his work ethic, his success was also oiled by the economic boom after World War II, working with the West African Railway Company and the newly inaugurated produce boards, he provided his fleet for commodity transportation and for other traders use. As a transporter, he had his own transport company (Ojukwu Transport Limited)which was the first major transport company to move the easterners to Lagos from the Asaba end of the Niger river after they might have crossed over from Onitsha on a boat. During the 1950s, he diversified his interest, bought some industries, invested heavily in the real estate sector and became a director in numerous major corporations including the state-owned Nigerian National Shipping Line. He was a member of the board of Nigerian Coal Corporation, Shell Oil, D'Archy, and African Continental Bank. During the period of pre-independence and in the First Republic, Ojukwu was an active member and donor to the political party, NCNC. He was a one-time member of the House of Representative. In 1958, he was chairman of the Eastern Region Development Corporation and the Eastern Regional Marketing Board. On May 1, 1953, he was appointed the head of an NCNC peace committee and given the power to choose most of the committee's members. The committee was charged with the responsibility of restoring peace in the regional House of Assembly. His views on policy were a little bit capitalistic and right of Zik's socialist undertones. He was a co-author of a report on the Economic Mission to Europe and North America with Azikiwe, the report recommended the investment of extra funds from the product marketing board in a regional bank and public corporations to stimulate economic development. Ojukwu died in 1966, just a year before the Nigerian civil war. His son Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was the leader of the secessionist state of Biafra. His wealth in Present-day Nigeria is times two the worth of Dangote. Can we ever get another Sir Louis Ojukwu from Igboland? Visit anaedoonline.com for more inspiration lalasticlala

An accident occurred yesterday around 5:20 pm along Ideani Alor road Nnobi, as a trailer tank that was conveying kerosine had a brake malfunction and butchered the conductor who was running to escape from the trailer. An eye witness who was at the scene at the time of the incident, told an Anaedoonline.com reporter, that the trailer had a bad break, and was on high speed and didn't see the sharp bending at the expressway, as a result, it was difficult for the driver to control the already malfunctioning break. The trailer driver tried to get off the road but could not control the vehicle because he didn't see the sharp bending on time and the trailer had failed break already. Whereas, the victim identified as the conductor of the trailer already noticed the driver has lost control of the vehicle and out of fear jumped down from the vehicle to run for safety. Unfortunately for the conductor, he ran in the direction of the swerving trailer. Anaedoonline.com gathered that the young man at that time was confused about which direction to take before he was massacred by the trailer. The man died at the spot and his body ripped in pieces and scattered at the scene of the incident while the trailer moved three poles before it came to a halt in a gutter. Anaedoonline.com also gathered that at the time of this report, the victim's name is not yet identified, however, his phone was recovered and some of his contacts were alerted about the incident. Information reaching Anaedoonline.com is that Chief Dr Cletus Ibeto is currently having an emergency meeting in his house with all the President Generals of all communities across the four quarter villages in Nnewi which includes communities in Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi with the purpose of asking them to endorse Obinna Ngonadi, the YPP candidate of Nnewi for Anambra State House of Assembly. Anaedoonline understands that the PG'S are being paid N20,000 each and given a document to sign that they must deliver Obinna Ngonadi across their communities in Nnewi. The PG'S are mandated to within 48hrs to call for a meeting in their various communities and endorse Obinna Ngonadi against Smart Okafor. Anaedoonline understands that there are some PG'S who are against this current imposition from a personality like Ibeto and have vowed to work against him. There is a further plot by Ibeto and his camp to call a "Thank you" meeting on Thursday at the Ifeanyi Ubah stadium with a motive to openly endorse Obinna Ngonadi. The meeting will come as a guise of thanking Nnewi people for voting massively for Chris Azubogu and Ifeanyi Ubah who both were successful in the last election. Thereafter, a subtle way will be provided to endorse Ngonadi. The full onslaught by Ibeto against the candidacy of Smart has been likened by many as the fight between David and Goliath. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Thursday, agreed to suspend their strike, which has lasted for three months. This comes after ASUU signed all agreements with the Federal Government, following a conciliatory meeting in Abuja. Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, represented the Federal Government, while the lecturers were represented by the union’s president, Biodun Ogunyemi. According to Ngige, both parties unanimously resolved the eight contentious issues that had prolonged the strike. Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Ogunyemi said: “On Sunday, November 4, 2018, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) resumed its strike action, which was conditionally suspended on 14th September 2017. “The action of 2017 was suspended following the signing of a memorandum of action (MoA) in which the federal government of Nigeria (FGN) promised to address the contentious issues within a timeline that was to end in October 2017. (ASUU STRIKE CALLED OFF) “While announcing the suspension of the nationwide action, however, our union made it categorically clear that ASUU will not hesitate to review its position should government renege on the signed Memorandum of Action. “Predictably, Government implemented the MoA in the breach, thereby forcing ASUU to resume the suspended strike action. Comrades and compatriots, as we have always argued, the last thing ASUU members love doing is to cause disruption in smooth intellectual engagements with colleagues, friends, and students right on our university campuses. This has nothing to do with the dubious advertorial of non-disruption of the academic calendar by proprietors and administrators of some cash-and-carry universities and other self-styled enemies of ASUU.
