Announcing the offer, Tuesday, Governor Obiano advised the 13 new doctors to always remember the virtues of patience, hard-work and professionalism which he described as the building bricks for a fulfilling medical career. “As you take your Hippocratic Oath today, let me remind you that you are symbolically sworn to save life, to nurture life and enrich life. Yes; Human Life should matter to you, far and above all considerations. And as pioneers of this medical college, we look at you with so much pride and satisfaction. But we also look out to you with great hopes and expectations because to whom much is given, much is expected. You must never forget the name you carry on your certificate and the community you represent,” Governor Obiano advised. The governor assured of his commitment to make a difference in the state, pointing out that the past 23 months of his administration had seen him strive to make an impact where it matters most. “That is why, in addition to pushing for the final accreditation of this Medical College, we are also doing everything humanly possible to lift the status of Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital to a world class standard to enable it serve as the ultimate breeding ground for the products of this college. This is one mission that we have resolved to accomplish, by the grace of God,” he declared. Governor Obiano also announced that his administration had secured accreditation for the School of Nursing in Nkpor and the School of Health Technology in Obosi. Reiterating the efforts of his administration to turn the health sector around in the state, Governor Obiano explained that the sum of N2.45bn was allocated to Health in the 2016 Budget of the state to ensure that his programmes in healthcare delivery are fully realised. “I have no doubt that this will restore our confidence in the healthcare sector and set Anambra State on the path of excellence in healthcare delivery,” he declared, further revealing that his administration had added new units to the Onitsha General Hospital and constructed a Helipad for air ambulances that would bring in patients in cases of emergency. Speaking further Obiano revealed that he had also built a Centre for Tropical Disease Control which would be used to isolate patients suffering from deadly and highly infectious diseases once there is an outbreak of epidemics and cited the transformation of Orumba General Hospital into a modern medical facility as one of the great achievements of his administration in the health sector. The governor lauded his predecessors; former governor Chris Ngige whose vision led to the founding of the Medical College and former governor Peter Obi whose efforts resulted in the first accreditation that marked the commencement of Clinical Programmes in the College and also praised the remarkable struggle of the Committee of Ten Professors who did the spade work for the formation of the Medical College. Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Fidelis Okafor commended Governor Obiano’s commitment and relentless striving that led to the accreditation of the school of medicine thus leading to its emergence as the 29th Medical College in Nigeria. Also speaking, the Provost of the College, Prof Frank Akpuaka commended the graduating medical doctors for their perseverance and recalled that when the programmed began, there were 60 students but only thirteen graduated as medical doctors. Mrs. Toyin Saraki Represents Wife of Nigeria’s President at African Union Summit, Advocates for Increased Funding for Pneumonia Interventions. Representing H.E. Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at the General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), the Wife of Nigeria’s Senate President, and Founder- President of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), H.E. Mrs. Toyin Saraki, has called for increased funding of, and accessibility to, proven interventions that prevent and treat pneumonia. Introducing the Every Breath Counts campaign – a new global pneumonia campaign that aims to raise awareness of the need for increased funding and improved policies for pneumonia interventions, Mrs. Saraki disclosed that pneumonia, the number one killer of children under five, kills more than 900,000 children every year – more than malaria, AIDS, and measles combined. Despite this, however, pneumonia receives a fraction of the global public health investment, and continues to claim millions of young lives annually. Outlining effective pneumonia interventions, Mrs. Toyin Saraki stated, “Vaccination is critical to preventing pneumonia and other diseases affecting the health of our children. Immunization should be combined with other innovative interventions that minimize vulnerability, such as reducing household air pollution and increasing access to exclusive breastfeeding and clean water. In addition, we must ensure the availability in the community of effective treatments, including antibiotics like amoxicillin – a cheap and effective treatment for pneumonia.” While the vast majority of pneumonia deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa, investments towards the prevention, management and treatment of the disease remain low in the region. In an innovative effort to identify and treat those at greatest risk – children living in poor, remote, rural areas –the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) empowers mothers with its client-held personal health records (PHRs), which serve to reduce both maternal and under-five mortality, while identifying children with suspected pneumonia – giving them the opportunity to receive timely and appropriate treatment. Spearheaded in partnership with UNICEF, Speak Up Africa and other global partners, the Every Breath Counts campaign targets African leaders and policy makers and seeks to garner more resources and commitments so as to facilitate tangible progress in the fight against childhood pneumonia. The campaign launch took place on 31st January 2016, during the African Union Summit at the General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), and premiered a public service announcement featuring H.E. Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, which served to mobilize African First Ladies and women leaders as global pneumonia advocates.

Nigerian Musician Raoul John Njeng known by his stage name Skales has expressed regret for exchanging words with his former record label mate Wizkid on social media. Speaking on Multi TV’s ‘Let’s Talk Entertainment’, Skales said: “That’s one of the mistakes I made and I feel like I’m growing in the eyes of the public so definitely, I know that you can never benefit from things like that. So I’ve become a better person now, I’m more grown now, I’ve realized that I’m a role model, a lot of people look up to me and so there’s some mistakes I cannot do”. Skales recently accused Wizkid of allegedly stealing his hit song ‘Azonto’ and claiming that he wrote the lyrics of Wizkid’s ‘Superstar’ song. Wizkid responded in a series of tweets saying it was just a public stunt by Skales to promote his new song ‘Je Kan Mo’. The controversy raged on for a while between the two. Regretful Skales who says the issue has been resolved said, “I’m a human being, I must make mistakes and the only way is if I correct myself and make myself a better person”. He however warned that he will come after anyone who steals his song saying, ” if you steal my lyrics, I’m coming for you. For now nobody has stolen my lyrics because I only play my music to my team if I want to play to other people to hear, I can put it on snap chat”. On protecting his songs, Skales said, “this is your exclusive material and you don’t want it to be out yet so just let it be between your team so you that if it gets out you hold your team responsible for it but for now, protect it like it’s your life”. Skales also debunked speculations by some entertainment pundits that the Nigerian media do not support works by Ghanaian musician. He said, Sarkodie’s ‘Illuminati’, ‘Azonto Fiesta’ and ‘Adonai’ with Castro, Joey B’s Tonga, D Black’s ‘Red Card’, including Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy’s songs and other Ghanaian songs are very popular in the Nigeria music circles. Skales stressed that, ” The Tonga beat is raining in Nigeria, everybody dey do that kind song. They call it Tonga beat”. The ‘Shake Body’ singer hopes to collaborate with Edem, D Black, Sarkodie, Fuse ODG, Stonebwoy and other musicians. The musician, who is owner of OHK record label but not signed onto it says, it is a business move because the label is not performing well like the one he his signed unto. “I had to sign to Baseline Records because I had bigger plans and things I wanted to do but OHK is still going on, because I own it with a couple of friends of mine so for now, every one of my project is signed under baseline.
