PoliticsRe: Governor Ugwuanyi Weeps As Fulani Herdsmen Ravage Community by Objectives: 6:02pm On Apr 26, 2016
I cannot understand, herdsmen invade areas in your state, take lives and destroy properties at will and you say fast and pray??

What are the responsibilities of a Governor as Chief security officer again?

Can a security team under the state's control not be sent to fish these urchins out??

You sit, fold your arms and watch the lives of those who gave you their votes on a sunny day taken away and you say fast and pray??

I sincerely hope that you have a beloved one taken away in same manner as these unfortunate ones,

Perhaps the necessity of doing the needful becomes more pertinent to you!

The children also partook in the evil deeds and that is why the wrath of GOD fell on them all.
A 2 or 4 year old to partake in evil deeds? Really??
How exactly is that possible?

Hence if your kids committed the crime with you, they are going down with you.
Kids between the ages of 2 and 4?
You see my friend, this is just laughable

PS: Do not forget that 5,6,7,8,9,10 month old infants were supposed to be in that population too, were they also guilty of immorality??

Please reveal the hole am covering. Wasn't it written in the bible?
Your perception of the bible is based on absolute perfection, and to you, the deity upon which it is based can do no wrong, This naturally puts you on the defensive, whether or not the "case or act" is possible to defend,

Let's say....

"I have just been found guilty of murder by a competent court and sentenced to death by hanging, Okay?? good, very good, I get to face the consequences of the crime I committed,

But No, it doesn't end there, my 4 and 2 year old kids have to go by hanging too, else, they'd grow to become worse murderers than their Father....

This is because, according to the judge and yourself it is impossible for them not to follow same path with their father"

Do you see a hole in the above?? If Yes, then you'd realize its just a minute fraction of the hole in your argument.

I do not intend to go back and forth, I do not intend to pollute your beliefs either, I just want us to make common sense.

Arguing that a genocide is not a genocide because it was ordered by your god. Let's be clear on one thing, a genocide is a genocide, is a genocide, is a GENOCIDE irrespective of who gives the order or the moral implications of such an order
This seems to be the problem, deep seated strong obligation to defend obvious holes associated with already accepted ideas of what justice should be,

You find that such persons who try in every way to justify what their god has done, will still mock and ridicule other religions for the exact same thing.

I liken religion to a spoon, use it to play drums when you want to have a swell time, use it to eat when you are hungry, use it to scoop milk when thirsty, use it as a weapon when you are scared, or when you want to scare,

One spoon.

There's a thing about having a tender heart, you will be quick to tag-along a widely accepted premise , in your case, referring to people with active and colorful sex lives as studs|sluts, and thus beating your chest that you'd never end up with their kind,

However, getting married to a stud doesn't really seem to be the problem as I perceive you only seem to be fighting the male folks for something you see as hypocrisy on their part, this too is unnecessary,

You are wrongly convinced about the premise upon which you have arrived, there is very little the sincere and concerned ones on here can do to aid the situation,

I find solace in the fact that, personal experience and posterity will re-align your thoughts on the subject adequately, the sweet part?? you only realize this upon completion of the process.

From that very moment, I knew my service year was going to be a rough, frustrating and psychologically draining one, the die was cast,

I approached the school management, explained to them the problems I identified with and some projects I felt were necessities,

"Oh good, kofa we are happy zat you wa kwonsand"

They showed appreciation and thanked me,

"But kai, we cannot take you to these people, zey zont lisen to us, zey will say we want to use kofa to collect money"

[I had asked questions from some friends I made in the community about people they felt could help, and I was able to get names of a good number of persons]

"And the school does not have money walai, Govt has not been sending anything"

"Even the teachers cannot contribute because no salary"

One would understand that Government funds and salaries is a reality to an extent, but not taking me to those who could help drained me psychologically as I got the impression that they did not want to associate themselves with a cause they didnt believe in, it was clear, they thought I wasn't genuine, and as such the whole thing meant very little to them,

It was painful, but I wasn't going to drop the whole idea just yet, if anything, I had to at least touch them so well, they'd have real reason to give well meaning strangers the benefit of the doubt,

I spoke with lots of people, explaining to them the importance of what I was doing and how all the advice they could render was going to be significant,

Many felt i was just being ridiculous if I actually wanted to do all those things for people I was meeting for the first time, I drew up proposals for the remaining few, all negative

At that point, the burden became stronger, only surpassed by daily disappointments from those who promised to help,

It was bad, really bad, daily headaches became my allies, sleep evaded me as I thought of different reasons to keep going, it seemed to me like I was a madman, reaching for the impossible, but If identifying with peoples problems and looking for possible solutions was insanity, then I was ready to lose my sanity,

I decided to seek the school's approval for a land where they felt was going to be okay for a clinic, and to my surprise, they obliged, saying anytime I was ready, work could commence on the land, apparently, they did not expect things to get that far,

Round and round I went, to the market, shop to shop, house to house, gathering to gathering, speaking to indigenes about the whole idea, with the little that was realised, the land was excavated and foundation laid, that in my books, was big progress,

I took pictures of all that was done, kept going and visited more houses, believing there was more positives down the road,

The engineer who volunteered to give his services for free, advised that I revisit a particular educationist whom he was certain could help, I took his advice and checked on [Him], leaving pictures behind, weeks passed, months passed, time was running thin

After 4months or so, I decided I was going to try again, re-visit all that disappointed, at that point, we had gathered some money to raise the building to the lintel level,

I started with the school management, explained to them that they could still do something however bad they felt things were, They already started giving me the benefit of the doubt as they' saw I meant every word I said to them when I arrived, they could no longer distance themselves from what was going on, they eventually gave their words and made a surprising contribution,

The Educationist eventually responded, asked how far I had gone and told me to see him the next day, went there and he took me to his friend who advised that they do something about it, The following day, they surprised me and promised to ensure that work was completed in a weeks time.

And so it was, that the school now had a clinic of their own, medically equipped and drugs donated by people as well,

And everyother thing followed,

Chairs for the students,
Skill acquisition on home-made soap,
Sensitization on first aid and hygiene,
Sign boards for the school and my host community,
Free lessons in preparation for external exams,
Etc...

The deep sense of fulfillment I feel each time thoughts of service year arise, and I recall the big grin on the students faces when they sat on those chairs, When the clinic was officially opened,

When Indigenes and the teachers call to say thank you,

It just feels good.

The End

Part II

We arrived the lodge and there was the usual exchange of pleasantries, as old and new introduced themselves and tried to familiarize with those under same place of primary assignment, in a matter of minutes, I was already hearing things about my supposed ppa,

Aaah, don't even bother prep'ing for lessons, those ones? very dull children, SSIII students don't know common pythagoras theorem,

They even sit on the ground when teachers are taking lessons,

and when they fall sick, they just lie on the veranda or even under their lockers

That's how they are here o, even their own people don't care, so don't disturb yourself, whether you go to school or not, the students already have a bad foundation, so what's the point, just serve je je je and go back to your state, don't kill yourself for them o"

I didn't know how to digest all that I just heard, they must be exaggerating I thought, surely can't be that bad, so I thought, I arrived the school the next morning and of course, they were wrong, it wasn't as bad as they had described, it was worse,

In virtually half the classes in the school, the students sat on the floor, no chairs,

No proper health-care plan in place to at least look after the children,

Teachers used the dialect to teach and still tell the students to not speak anything outside english language, before the gods and the council of elders, is that kind of thing fair??

Majority looked unkept, coming to school everyday just so they don't get flogged for not coming, that seemed to be the only reason they wanted to be there, some of these students were already married, pregnant and still coming to school, to do whathuh They came, slept during classes with reckless abandon and at the end of school hours someone, pro'ly the man they'v been married off to drives down with an okada to come pick them,

I have never felt so bitter,

Was I going to spend 11months of my life in that community and not identify with their problems??

Right on my way home after school hours, with a totally broken-spirit, I decided to devote myself and service year to leaving the school in a better condition than I met it.

Christianity EtcRe: 5 Biblical Principles That Will Change Your Life by Objectives:
Quite true,

While theism isn't a subject upon which I dwell, I still see the book of Ecclesiates as one with rare teachings of wisdom, laced with understanding and direction for the simple,

My favourite,

New International Version, Ecclesiastes 1:2

"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher.
"Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.".

In very few words, everything about life is summed up, and its not quite an optimistic premise as the author, though wise and insightful, strikes me as more of a pessimist,

Of all biblical texts, Ecclesiastes seems to me like a stand out book, no wishful thinking, no exaggerations about life after death, nothing to make the mind wander away in doubt, just life as it is, in simple easy-to-comprehend jewish folklore,

It is perhaps, in my opinion, the most direct and open religious piece of literature that there is.

Part I

Let me see how well I can recall,

I was hoping for a place quite distant from home as I really craved that experience, not that home wasn't good enough, but the desire to feel life away from the south was just that strong, a way of life completely alien to me,

I was fortunate, as I was deployed to one of such states, calm, serene, no security concerns at all, camping was over, and I picked up my letter without hesitation [as per, hope this place has light o, hope its not far o, hope there's a bank there o etc] I located my fellow corps members sent to same L.G.A and we hit the road early enough,

I had observed on our way, that on entering the L.G.A, the roads were well tarred, motorable and without port-holes, it was a surprise as I had expected very little considering it was a core northern area, and then infrastructures were quite on the average, I was beginning to feel convinced that the standard of living would be on same page, I was wrong.
NYSCRe: Fixed Date For 2015 NYSC Presidential Honour Award by Objectives:
sbabimbola:
Good morning,
My service year experience.
The desire to help people around me had been in me since my secondary school days, then we were asked to write an essay, 'My future ambition', I wrote that I wanted to become a Philanthropist ( I took a clue from a Northern Alhaji who helped the needy). My teacher didn't score me, only checked my M.A, sentence structure, corrected my grammatical errors........... She was probably expecting to see me write Lawyer, Doctor, Engineer, etc like the rest did (I was in SS1, Science Class).

I was sad that she didn't understand me, but glad she didn't mark me wrong
Lol, Absolutely, most times people don't seem to understand why others choose to do something different, they naturally expect everyone to toe the same line,

She definitely would be
proud of you if she came across you today

So I began to help people one at a time, ranging from kind words to sacrificing my lunch......

University days still, I continued...... though my finger got burnt severally
Yea, One of the major cons of being selfless, the good thing is, just like you, being burnt seems to push a select few further down that road of philanthropy, no disrespect to those who gave up though, one would totally understand if they aren't as selfless after being b
urnt on several occasions

The first thing I did during my service year was to take up the call to resume at a rural camp with no good road network, electricity, nor GSM network (MTN came the month I concluded my service....... thanks to them)., despite being the only corps member posted there (a female for that matter).
Lol @ MTN, Staying back was just a very nice and selfless thing to do

When the State Coordinator and my L.G.I knew this, they wanted to relocate me but I said no........ (Why?)

Getting to the school I was posted ( the only school in the community), the student rally round me as if I was a President, some were shouting Corper while others were shouting OLOPA(police)............

I could no longer request for rejection letter, which my boss was willing to give because of my gender........

Instead I asked for my accommodation......
The reason for this isn't far fetched, most children in rural communities face a certain degree of lack of exposure, exposure to basic things that should be made available by the authorities concerned but for one reason or the other don't get them, so once they sight a stranger who's likely to be around for a while, its like hope renewed, something like that

I cultivated over 1 hectare of cassava plantation, proceeds from which was for the argumentation of school fees of children of the displaced people from Northern Nigeria who came to the community.......

I constructed animal husbandry section for the school.

sensitised the community members about Ebola, Tetanus, and Breast cancer....

trained students on production of Liquid soap, Izal disinfectant, and 3 months fashion designing........

I donated bottled liquid soaps to community members to mark hand washing day

donated disinfectant and bed spreads to the Local health center.

constructed a bus stop for the community....

all these above are among about 21 documented projects I did......

some of the undocumented ones are below

I sowed father Christmas costume for the school Free of Charge

Took the children on excursion to the state capital's Radio Station to participate on a program for students......( these children's smiles and joy I WILL NEVER FORGET )
You did really well, exceptionally well, and it makes more sense to know that the focus was on educational exposure, health and development for the children, and the joy, and appreciation that they show, nothing short of the very icing on the cake,

I had the best service experience...........
That sense of fulfillment and deep satisfaction, priceless.

Thanks for making me recall them...

My best is yet to come......

I STILL WANT TO BECOME A PHILANTHROPIST!

HAPPY SUNDAY.
Thanks too, for sharing, you still want to become a philanthropist?? I think you are one already, perhaps you want to do more

I'm almost certain there's a lot ahead, for you, probably not as soon as you'd expect, but somewhere in the near future, Happy Sunday.

I left out names of places and locations on purpose....... you know SOCIAL MEDIA PALAVA..... LOL
Lol, yea, I can relate to that.
