SportsWhy Isn't Rugby Bigger in Nigeria? by obong(op): 5:51pm On Jun 19, 2005
I don't understand why this sport isn't bigger in Nigeria despite the potential. I guess that goes to everything about Nigeria, all potential.
ComputersRe: How many Computers in Nigeria? by obong(op): 5:45pm On Jun 19, 2005
I dont see why there arent as many computers as TV since they cost about the same (depending on the TV and cmputer). With internet phone services, it'd even mak calling cheaper and easier

is zinox the only nigerian company making computers

Thats precisely why I want to create one. It would help people get over their fears and teach people about these animals. They can help in medicine as well.

I dont see the proble. Even the US that claims to be a cashless society isnt really cashless. Nigeria will do well, een with the pereption of curruption. Frankly, israel, US and various other countries are more notorious for credit card fraud that nigerians
BusinessRe: The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) by obong(m): 1:10pm On Jun 17, 2005
I agree with you. I think the investment is good, though but it should be on our terms. The government should make sure Nigerians hav a stake otherwise we'll end up as merely consumers. In the long run though, its good when you get investors in your country. Japan invested in Malaysis and singapore and look at how they turned out today.

I dont think south africa needed NEPAD to allow them to invest in other parts of africa. NEPAD is more about getting the rest of the world to invest if africa ofers good governance, as well as fostering internl investment

I just wish we had as many hospital as churches, or as many school as churches. Then most of these problems like malaria would be solved

Good to see they are challenging FEdex and the rest
ComputersRe: How many Computers in Nigeria? by obong(op): 3:53pm On Jun 16, 2005
Its better to manufacture and assemble though because of the amount of jobs its creates and the likely drop in price due ot not having to ship the computers back in

So you want him to come here to displace our local graduates from the most lucrative jobs when he has an opportunity to get a job somewhere else?

I support people who are coming back to Nigeria to create jobs for people, but I don't know what to say about people who are coming back to Nigeria to take jobs from people!
Its my country so if I displace anyone else, so be it. Obviosuly the employers believe I can add value and help the country or the company. But since I have no interest in working for anyone no matter where I live, I'm conccerned that the lack of basics, like electricity would hamper any business I want to start

I say return to Naija, employers of labour in Nigeria like people with an oversea Masters or MBA certificate. To enjoy your stay in Nigeria, you need a very good job with a fat pay and with money in your hands, you have the power to enjoy your life even with the hardship surrounding you. I'll explain, if there is no light, you have a big generator, you don't have to worry about traffic, your car is fully airconditioned and guess what? you are not the one doing the driving 'because you have a driver e.tc. But when you stay in the UK, yes you earn pounds, but you also spend pounds paying for utilities, you can hardly save unless you have a very good paying job which of course is not easy to come by because of the colour of your skin, yes, racism. So, the choice is yours.
I want to open a factory so the power sector is improtant. I'm not going to invest if i have to create the basics myself. besides, lack of electricity shows the government isnt serious. when they do thier part, i'll do mine

Churces have bills to pay. All over the world religious institutions charge for education.
And therein lies the problem. Christianity is all about Naira and Kobo nowadays much in the same way that Jesus chased people out of the house of God for turning it into a den of robbers, to be honest, it's just a way of making tax free income.
Its not just nowadays. religion has always been about money

Oga, nigeria can do better, yes i agree. but one man isnt going to employ everyone in the country. He should be congratulated and other people not doing the same should be scolded. we need more peopel doing what he is doing. The mineral resources in nigeria are not its most valuable resources anyway. Nigeria's wealth is its people

The name of the local manufacturer you're trying to remember is Zinox Computers, and their official website is at: www.zinoxtechnologies.com. They are responsible for a very small percentage of computers bought by small businesses or individuals in Nigeria. (They are mostly patronized by the government and some very large companies.)

Why would you like to know the number of computers in Nigeria? Does it really matter?
Thanks for the info. I think just like the telephone the number of computers matter. Actualy the computer is more important than the phone. i wanted an idea to know if the people are keeping up with computers at the same rate they are acquiring phones.

No virgin for me
PhonesRe: Virgin Group, Vodacom team up for Vmobile Nigeria? by obong(m): 12:35pm On Jun 15, 2005
Bell thats not really something to be excited of. You dont want major industries owned by foriegners because you lose a lot of profit, it sets up a symbol that nigerian's are incapable and it can affect national security. Imagine if there was some war and Virgin or MTn decided to cut thier lines. (A certain company did this in somalia)

Ultimately its good to get investsment money, but they should come through the apital markets or have no ownership power
BusinessRe: MTN Made 65 Billion Naira Profit (April 2004 to March 2005) by obong(m): 12:29pm On Jun 15, 2005
To contrl the economy of africa, you have to control the economy of nigeria. MTN of course will make more in nigeria than MTN south africa. We just need to support our own companies, like Glo. or buy out MTN nigeria

I was just looking through the website and I found out that there are only 4351 students in the University. That's about 0.0004% of students in Nigeria. Shows that only the privileged few can afford it. shocked
Nigerians seem to hold awfully high expectations. I mean how many people do you expect one university to hold.? its doing its part. I know someone that goes there and if she didin, she'd be sitting at home like her brother. and now she's almost done. I can't understand the problem. Even with thier pricing.

If the 'rich people' who can pay 250,000 per annum are able to send their children into Covenant University instead of using the money to bribe university decision-makers to admit their children, this will free up space in the federal and state universities for the 'average' people who cannot afford 250,000 per year. The only way to make the prices go down beyond was they are now is to license so many private universities that price competition will be ignited.

Having said that, wouldn't rather pay 200 - 250,000 per annum to be educated than sit at home for an indefinite period of time or spend 6-7 years on a 4 year course in an under-funded, over-crowded university where you are not able to gain any form of practical experience?
My issue is that a church is making money out of a bad situation. I thought a church was supposed to provide for the masses? But this is definitely not for the masses.

exactly a church university, what happened to charity? what happened to helping the needy? If the English missionaries had placed such a high premium on education, how many of our fore fathers woulda been educated?
The missionaries were not out to educate us, but out to convert people to thier religion and educate enough people to man thier colonies
