CrimeDon't Jail The Fake ID Card Syndicates But....................... by obynoses(op): 8:59am On Oct 08, 2015
The Ohuru Isimiri Police Division in Aba, Abia state has arrested a syndicate who specialises in faking vehicle and drivers’ licence in the city. The suspects; Daniel Lisaa, a computer analyst and Larry Ilas, who claimed to be a computer engineering National Diploma student of Ibadan Polytechnic Oyo State, hail from Shagamu and Ewekoro areas of Ogun state, respectively. Items recovered from them include: 313 Drivers’ Licence, 3 packs of passport photographs belonging to over a million victims, 2 laptop and 2 desktop computers, 22 packs of unfinished Drivers’ Licence cards each containing 250 pieces, 3 scanners and a printer. The duo who were arrested at their hideout at Ohuru Isimiri in Obingwa council area, have agents at Aba and Port-Harcourt who are still at large. The duo confessed to have been in the business for more than two years where they charge their customers, N1, 500 per driver’s and vehicle license. Police Public Relations Officer, Abia state command, DSP Ezekiel Onyeke, who confirmed the incident, said efforts are on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects.

My take on this: Arrest them, rebrand them and give them Jobs in licensing offices, for it is not easy to make fake IDs to become originals with the computer, no matter how. However, 2% of their salaries should be going back to the Government as a punishment for 5 years. If we insist on jailing our talented youths, then we may remain underdeveloped for long. So many youths are wasting in prisons because they were arrested in gun-making factories. This should not be so. These boys should be rehabilitated and retrained to become professionals as to help solidify our military amour and war equipment. We need change in everything, not just on corruption but on handling tactful criminals (Those who are creative but use it negatively because of unemployment).
EducationHappy Teachers Day To My Best Secondary School Teachers! by obynoses(op): 4:47pm On Oct 05, 2015
The best teachers I ever had was my Chemistry teacher, Late Mr.Onuh and my Government teacher Mr. Ogbonnia Nwachi. It was so lovely to combine “Government and Chemistry” in my SS2. This made me combine these courses in my WAEC and made “A” in chemistry and B in Government. While Mr.Onuh would be forcefully fixing your loopholes in Chemistry and Mathematics (For my every-day-maths counterparts), Mr.Nwachi would be at the other end raining you with Political stories both in English and Latin. These two knew exactly how to appreciate us in the class and yes, utilize our natural initiatives and enthusiasms. My class in Government college Afikpo was one of those classes that if portrayed in a positive light would be called level-headed, smart but exuberant and rambunctious if the senior students dare to intimidate us. We always had a clown “Owom Isu” who made the class so fun to stay with. Our sole goal, we were serious after all, was to have good grades. We could turn any material into a binary code which would play out to be academically welcomed, that is if teachers let us, and most did not. But our Government and Chemistry teachers were different. A good example was our weekly vocabulary lists. Mr. Nwachi would let us transform what could easily have been a very run-of-the-mill weekly vocabulary assignment in which we were to write a story incorporating as many of the new words as possible. As at SS1, I had packed thousands of vocabularies to confuse the unsuspecting girls of Akanu Ibiam grammar school. With the blessings of Mr. Nwachi, we turned those vocabulary assignments into a weekly exchange of witticisms and laughter as we wrote our stories about each other, making fun of and teasing each other, inventing all kinds of tall tales, especially of the romantic order and including as well many other pieces of trivia we would otherwise have been talking about in the quad. I try to remember this when I teach my own students -- that as a teenager, laden with all the issues and concerns that any normal teenager has, what I most wanted and appreciated was learning in a light, enjoyable way. And for this I always tell myself that if my students are not being engaged, or dare I say, entertained in some way, they probably aren't learning, at least not in any meaningful way. They are teenagers and they are different. The best teachers I ever had, understood this and I try, in his honor, to remember this when facing my own students, but I am not always successful.
There are some teachers, who hardly ever make an impact on, or touch someone's life for the better. Some just go through life, teaching. But there are some that change people’s life for the better. Mr.Onuh in the other hand was the kind of person that everyone loved but showed it at his demise. The fear of Onuh was the beginning of a serious student. He never respected any huge but idiotic student; he rather honored all tiny but intelligent students. He never asked too much, or expected too much but fixed many problems. As I look back on my days at Government Secondary School Afikpo, I remember what an impact this man had on my life. This man always lashed me on weekly basis and called out my name in the class before introducing a new Chemistry topic, just to know if I am in the bush of “mkpurukem” or in the class. “What would I have been without the likes of Mr.Onuh and Mr.Nwachi?”
Computer information systems, was what I originally had planned for my future anyway, so Government as a course never even interested me. At my SS1 class, everybody in the class was forced to do the general subjects of sciences and arts. One could only opt for science or art field at SS2 class. Fortunately, Mr. Nwachi was our Government teacher. As I entered that classroom, I thought about what I would learn, but nothing could have prepared me for the decisions I would come upon and make within one year. Throughout the year, Mr. Nwachi made government class interesting. He stayed after school, religiously, every day for one hour, just so kids could ask him for help (Those that lived in the hostel benefitted more from this). There was never one time when he left a minute early, or did not stay at all. More and more, government began to interest me. I could not figure out why I had just discovered the world of government and Politics just because of his touchy stories of the nation. He will talk about the Bourgeoisies and the proletariats. His voice would echo so high when he pronounces his intimidating English and Latin words with his baritone voice. He fixed his sentences in the right format and moved to the tune of his melodic sentences. Mr. Nwachi dances and bounces at any grammar he speaks to portray its sound. I could remember being flogged for gate-crashing in a junior class just to hear this man teach. That should tell you how meticulous I use to be when Mr. Nwachi comes to my class. I never failed to pen down all his ministerial phrases. Had it not been for this man, I would have been lost and confused as to what my future would be like. He changed me in the sense that I had discovered a part of me that I never knew existed and that is “National and Societal Issues” even as a scientist. For that I am eternally grateful.
POEM DEDICATED TO MR.OGBONNIA NWACHI AND LATE MR.ONUH ON BEHALF OF 2002/2003 GSSA SESSION!!!
With a special gift for learning
And with a heart that deeply cares,
You add a lot of love
To everything you share,
And even though
You mean a lot,
You’ll never know how much,
For you helped
To change the world
Through every life you touched.
You sparked the creativity
In the students whom you taught,
And helped them strive for goals
That could not be bought,
You are such a special teacher
That no words can truly tell
However much you’re valued
For the work you do so well.

PoliticsBuhari Announces Petroleum Minister by obynoses(op): 7:59am On Sep 30, 2015
As the nation awaits President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list, the President on Tuesday said he would head the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Buhari dropped the hint in one of the interviews he granted one of the foreign media in his hotel shortly before departing New York.

The President was in New York to participate in the 70th United Nations General Assembly.

“I will serve as the Minister of Petroleum Resources myself,” Buhari told his interviewer.

The nation’s petroleum sector has been said to be enmeshed in corruption with millions of dollars said to be missing in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Shortly after assuming office, Buhari sacked and replaced the management of the company.

The new management had started a general reorganisation of the firm.

Buhari had on Monday said the trial of those who looted the NNPC would commence soon.

Meanwhile, ministerial list that President Muhammadu Buhari will submit to the Senate on Wednesday (today)will not contain all the members of his proposed cabinet, THE PUNCH has learnt.

Buhari was inaugurated on May 29, having defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential election held in March.

Investigation by one of our correspondents on Tuesday revealed that what would be transmitted to the Senate this week would not be a complete list of nominees.

A top government official familiar with the arrangement confided in one of our correspondents that Buhari would send the names of the nominees to the Senate in batches.

“What the Senate will be getting on Tuesday or Wednesday will not be a complete list. The names will be sent in batches but quite a number will be on this first list while others will be compiled and sent later,” the source said.

The President may have decided to send the names in batches in order to meet the September deadline he set for himself rather than waiting to compile the full list and fail to beat the deadline.

Efforts made by one of our correspondents to get an insight into the list of the first batch of would-be ministers did not however yield any positive result on Tuesday.

The issue of the list has however been generating concerns among members of Buhari’s delegation to the 70th United Nations General Assembly holding in New York.

Many of the politicians on the President’s delegation who felt they might be considered for ministerial positions were getting in touch with Nigeria intermittently on the telephone for latest information on the list while they also kept making themselves visible for Buhari.

Some of them who could not hide their anxiety were heard asking Nigerian journalists if they had latest information on the list.

Prominent chiefs of the All Progressives Congress on the President’s delegation include a former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; a former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; and a former member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa among others.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said on Tuesday that his leadership would not employ vendetta in the screening of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s wise men.

Saraki, who stated this in his welcome address to his colleagues at a plenary after their six-week recess, expressed confidence that Nigeria’s economy would experience a turn-around with the appointment of ministers.

He said, “As we await the list of ministerial nominees this week, I believe the presence of ministers will create the space for greater policy engagement with the executive arm of government.

“It will also enable us to begin to respond in a more systematic manner to the various economic and social challenges before us, especially through our various committees that will also be constituted soon.

“On this note, I want to urge you all my colleagues to ensure that what is uppermost in our minds as we begin the constitutional task of screening of ministerial nominees is the overall interest of our country, informed by the enormity and the urgency of the challenges before us.

“Once the list is submitted, let us ensure that we treat it with dispatch and thoroughness. We must not be held down by unnecessary politicking.”

EducationTETFUND Project, The Best In The Country's Education--prof.godwin Onu by obynoses(op): 7:44am On Sep 27, 2015
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Prof. Godwin Onuh, has described TETFund as one of the most important thing that has happened to the country's education sector. Onu said without interventions from TETFund, most public tertiary institutions in the country would have been in a state of stagnation.
The rector who disclosed this in an interview with journalists who were on tour of TETFund's intervention projects in the institution, explained that the prompt release of intervention funds for the building of well-stocked libraries, classrooms and well equipped libraries have no doubt made learning more meaningful and conducive for students in the ivory tower across the country.
His words: "TETFund is one of the most important things that has happened to this country, especially in the education sector. I want to say that without TETFund intervention, most higher institutions would have been in doldrums. The establishment of TETFund is a well-thought out initiative that has impacted tremendously on the education sector, both in quantity and quality. Onu stated that most infrastructures in the school were courtesy of various TETFunds' interventions. "For the Federal Polytechnic Oko, a lot of achievements are attributable to the funding that has come from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). We are really pleased and happy with the disposition of the executive secretaries that have been there, and the one that is still there, and also the friendly disposition of staff of TETFund, which has impacted on instant and quick releases of funds for payment of these projects. When you go round, you will see a lot that is going on here, and I am sure that it is not only in this institution, but also some other tertiary institutions." The rector noted that many lecturers in the polytechnic have benefited from the agency's capacity building initiative. "Many of my staff are enjoying various scholarships schemes, some are in India; at least I count seven of them in various Indian universities courtesy of TETFund. One of them has obtained his Ph.D from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa and he has come back. Others are still undergoing various Ph.D programmes, while some are masters' degree programmes. Some are in the United Kingdom, others in the United States and other parts of the world as well as across Nigeria.
"Many of my staff have equally benefited from TETFund's book development project, and the same thing with research funds. Recently, I approved payments for some of them that got their research proposals approved by TETFund.
Onu added, "Among all the sources of interventions, TETFund has been very tremendous, other ones are just a drop in the ocean, but TETFUND has impacted heavily and fundamentally in the education development of this institution and I am sure it is the same thing in other institutions in the country.

CelebritiesPeter Of PSQUARE And Ozone Of E2e Who Sings Better? by obynoses(op): 4:09pm On Sep 17, 2015
The duo of Psquare and e2e have been recently rated as best twin performers of the year by BKY naija. The twins of PSQUARE Sing marvelously and dance too while the twins of e2e possess the skill of one-sings-one-raps according to BKY director. However, Peter who sings most solos have been compared to his twin counterpart Ozone who sings both in solo and Jamaican voice (Raga), as a Jamaican brought up. When i was watching the program "Naija-Tune" in Mirage TV Show, i first of all found out that most people including myself do not know e2e as Nigerian singers. But the vote given to "Ozone" was too high compared to that of "Peter" judging with their songs "e-de-pain-me (e2e)" and "i-de-miss-u-die (PSQUARE)". Till now, i am still playing the two songs but cant really fathom the differences in the likeness of the rhythm and lyric wizardry.

PoliticsEbonyi State Government Has Forced Afikpo Community Into Eternal Darkness by obynoses(op): 2:24pm On Aug 21, 2015
PRESIDENT BUHARI PLEASE COME AND SAVE AFIKPO PEOPLE----WE ARE IN DARKNESS:
There was a big protest against the EEDC in AFIKPO, the second largest community in Ebonyi State for not giving them the Light they are paying for, for almost one year now. The angry youths was alleged to have destroyed some properties belonging to EEDC on same day. This prompted the Government led by Engr. Dave Umahi to unleash total light out in Afikpo. When this Light out issue was reported to both EEDC and those in the state helm of affairs, nobody including the Governor and his House of assembly members made inquiries as to know why Afikpo has had no Light for almost one year. It was a member representing Afikpo North in the House of Assembly, Hon.Udeh Nwachi Maria, who took it upon herself to table it to the State for possible resolutions. After so many trials and failures, the youth had to react angrily. If it were you, wont you react? Paying for what you dont eat is the worst form of extortion that can be mated to any community. Instead of Governor Umahi to look into the matter by atleast coming to ask or send someone to make inquiries as to settle issues, he connived with the house of Assembly members to put the community that worked assiduously for the creation of Ebonyi state into total darkness. At present, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, yesterday suspended Hon. Maria Udeh Nwachi, the Minority Leader of the House and member representing Afikpo North-East Constituency, who always fought for the restoration of the light, for allegedly masterminding last Monday's Youths demonstration against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Compamy(EEDC) in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, which according to the House, led to the burning of three vehicles of the EEDC. The motion for the suspension which will last for two weeks, was moved by Onu Nwonye representing Ohaozara West Constituency and seconded by Victor Chukwu represting Ezza North-West Constituency.
The Minority Leader, Maria Nwachi was among other things accused of aiding voilence and holding road users to ransome for several hours by blocking Afikpo-Abakaliki Highway. Why wont you fight if you loved your people. For God sake, she was elected to fight for our dividend and that was what she did.She did not commit any crime. In another recent development, the Ebonyi State govermment, through the Commissioner for Power,Hon.Emmanuel Uguru, had directed the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC) to suspend the restoration of light to Afikpo Area pending when the people replace the properties destroyed by the youths of the community. Is that how a reasonable Leader should react? No wonder we craved for change. Buhari should come to our rescue and deliver us from this unscrupulous leaders who only concentrate on the development of their own parts, forgetting other parts.
EducationWhen Will Nigerian Polytechnic Education Be Equivalent To University Education? by obynoses(op): 11:21am On Aug 20, 2015
I was wondering what could be done to make sure that Nigerian Polytechnic Education is seen as analogous to that of its University counterpart. I graduated from a Computer Science department in one of the many Nigerian Polytechnics sometime in 2009. During my NYSC program and while in the Labor Market between 2010-2011, i faced so many challenges of HND-BSC dichotomy. That pushed me to one of the famous Federal Universities in Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka where i anchored a direct entry program in same Computer Science. Sincerely speaking, i was the best student in my department. I organized tutorials even for the Final year students of my department in Programming and Hardware Maintenance Courses. Whenever i am writing a program, everybody will gather to learn. I was also introduced to the Computer Science Department President of University of Nigeria,Nsukka who coordinated tutorials for me in his department. I wrote final year project Programs for the final year student in my own second year at UNIZIK. I became so bemused that the almighty UNIZIK and UNN students knew little or nothing as regards practical approaches in my field. "Why then are these people rated high? Is it because of the unparalleled Admission Prerequisite between University and Polytechnic? Anyway, i am just in UNIZIK to obtain the almighty "Bsc"" I intermittently soliloquized. The Professors that we had in UNIZIK were just answering the name but don't know anything to teach. It is even the Phd.Lecturers that impacted knowledge to us. So why should Universities be rated high because they have Professors and Phd holders than the Polytechnic. All i learnt in UNIZIK were nothing new. I was a Professional in those courses in my HND days in the Polytechnic. In fact, I saw myself teaching the UNIZIK students with the same valueless Polytechnic Knowledge i learnt from Valueless Polytechnic Lecturers(BSC holders.ooo). Finally, i graduated as one of the best students in my department in UNIZIK. Now, i have the almighty "BSC". But this story is not why i am writing this. I am writing this to suggest to my fellow Nigerians and employers of labor to treat Polytechnic Graduates as same with University graduates. In my place of work, when computers malfunction, a University Engineer goes to a road-side repairer and gets it done, but a polytechnic graduate will just get his tools and tidy the mess. So, what are we talking about? Is it not a better work output that will want? Why then pay less to someone that is grounded in the work and pay high to someone that knows little than to pose with a certificate. Any sensible employer will even treat a Polytechnic graduate better. My own take on this is;
1. A graduate with NYSC should be seen as a graduate irrespective of his BSC OR HND Certificate
2. Test your employees brain and skills before employment and not Certificates.
MY ADVICE TO THE GOVERNMENT ON THIS:
1. Organize Polytechnic and BSC graduate tests to know the best products
2. Organize Inter-school examinations among Polytechnic and University undergraduates
3. Improve Polytechnic and Monotechnic Educational standards to meet with that of the University

Finally, i advise Polytechnics in Nigeria to brace up with the fact and improve in their Admission criteria and Academics planning. Like the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state has started writing departmental examinations with Computers. This is a good development. I must applaud whoever the Rector is. He is a dogged achiever to have installed such examination system in Nigeria. Apart from National Open University of Nigeria, I don't think we have upto 4 Universities in Nigeria with such a developmental strand. A brother of mine in the school said Lecturers do not mark their scripts now, that computer does everything for you as soon as you submit in just a button click. So, if things like this can be obtainable in other Polytechnics, then Polytechnic Education will be the best. But if you have the money and time, go for your "Big B" because Nigeria is still far from knowing the truth about this certificate dichotomy. I have got mine.

Those clamoring for Biafra are those who have no Jobs in Nigeria. I will blame the Government in this. If Jobs were common to people that all youth earn at-least 10k monthly, who will listen to such radio. But having the hope of a better tomorrow after a war will really make any jobless person to clamor for independence of self. As for me, i have a good Job in Nigeria though not a Government Job, so i will encourage the government to try and solve the marginalization of Igbos In the Federal seat of power else, he should not blame Nnamdi Kalu.
