President Jonathan Joined former heads of state in Sokoto to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Nigeria's first Civilian President Alhaji Shehu shagari (Marafan Sakkwato). 

Those who Joined the President at the private event were Former head of state Gen Yakubu Gowon, former Military president Gen Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekon, and General Abdulssalam Alhaji Abubakar.

The leaders took turns to personally sign the giant birthday card for the former president and proceeded to join him in the traditional cutting of the birthday cake.

Conspicuously missing at the main event were Gen Olusegun Obasanjo and General Mohammadu Buhari who is said to be recuperating in a London home.

The All progressive congress has just written to Jega and President Jonathan about its opposition to the use of soldiers to maintain Law and order during elections citing the judgement of a Federal High court and another case on appeal!

The issues for determination amongst Nairaland parliamentarians and critical stake holders  today is as follows 

1.Can the civil defence and  police which the APC is proposing ensure safety of lives and property during elections in places like   in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa , Bauchi, Gombe and Kano ?

2. Does the presence of soldiers patrolling the street during elections scare voters or assure voters of their safety? 

3. Considering the violent nature the supporters of certain political party,  is it possible to ensure a violence free elections and post election harmony  without involving the Military at all? 

4. Does the airlift and logistics support provided to INEC by the Nigerian Air force constitute a Violation of the constitution?

We are all stakeholders in the Nigerian Project. So let's provide answers to these questions and discuss these issues and by the Grace of God the 2015 general elections will be Violence Free

When saharareporters.com was created, it was seen as a website that would promote good governance and social Justice by removing the veil that gave some governments and government officials cover to do things that did not promote the well being of the citizens and the nation they governed.

The site quickly established a reputation as a medium for ground breaking news and Nigerians flocked to the site making it the most popular website in Nigeria as at 2009.

But as the British Philosopher, Lord Acton once noted, 'power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

Having had a taste of power, the power that control over the dissemination of information brings, those behind the website gradually began to metamorphose into those they had once targeted-power hungry tyrants who misuse power to serve a personal agenda while passing it off as a national agenda.

Once a watering hole for anybody who wants to know the truth that those in power do not want you to know, saharareporters.com has reduced itself to a site that is a massive gatherer of negative information on those whose political and ideological leanings differ from the operators of saharareporters.com.

Whether the information they publish is true or not isn't the concern of the site. Their concern is that it tarnishes the government irrespective of the collateral damage to the nation called Nigeria.

And aiding this site are foundations like The Omidyar Foundation and the Ford foundation who have variously given grants to saharareporters.com
ostensibly to promote government transparency and Social Media advocacy. But have these foundations given any thought to the possibility that they may be funding the subversions of democratically elected governments and Social Media tyranny?

Let me use myself as an example.

On the 14th of February, 2015, saharareporters.com published an article about me entitled 'Jonathan's Aide, Omokri Burglarizes House In Delta, Carts Away N25Million Meant For Buying Of Votes'.

In the story, they alleged that in the company of armed men, I invaded a house in Delta State, burglarized it and stole 25 Million Naira. 

One of the codes of the ethics of journalism is that journalists should take responsibility for the accuracy of their work by verifying information before releasing it and use original sources whenever possible.

From this code was coined the phrase 'when in doubt, leave out'.

Saharareporters.com has my contact details and Omoyele Sowore has called me on previous occasions. Other members of the staff of saharareporters.com have either called me or exchanged emails with me. As Special Assistant on New Media to President Jonathan of Nigeria, I am very responsive to the media. 

Yet, despite having my contact details, saharareporters.com did not contact me to verify the details in their story before going to press.

Even the most cursory investigations by saharareporters.com would have exposed the fact that this story is entirely false. 

Saharareporters.com and Omoyele Sowore pride themselves on having sources within the Nigerian Presidency. 

If this were true, those sources would have told them that on the day and time (the morning of Tuesday the 10th of February 2015) they alleged that I led armed men to burglarize a property in Warri, Delta state, I was actually at my office at the Aso Villa Presidential Complex.

I was seen by officials of the Directorate of State Security who man the entrance to the Villa complex. I was sighted by the policeman who mans the gate to my office. I was seen by support staff at in the premises. I had meetings with senior officials in my office. I received guests including a Director and later a youth pastor in a ministry located in Abuja. 

Prior to that time, I had a transaction with my personal banker in the banking district of Abuja. I also interacted with a pastor of the Christ Embassy Church in Mpape. 

On that same day, I also performed pastoral duties in my capacity as the pastor of a local church in Abuja.

Moreover, I have not visited Delta State since December of 2012 when I visited Delta state to arrange my travels with a clergy man living in that state.

Finally on this score, a record of both my cell phones would show that they triangulated only within the Federal Capital Territory.

It therefore beats the imagination why, with the preponderance of easily available information that showed that their story could not possibly be true, saharareporters.com went ahead to publish this libelous story against me. 

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes, once said "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth".

It is impossible  that saharareporters.com and Omoyele Sowore could not reach me to verify their story. This can only lead to the conclusion that malice was the motive of their story.

A number of prominent Nigerians have complained about the antics of saharareporters.com whose unethical and untruthful reporting has the capacity of severely eroding trust between the citizenry and the government.

The online site has reported that the President of Nigeria, President Jonathan had travelled at a critical time in the nation's history even when he had not, has reported that the government of Nigeria had ordered gold plated iPhones as gifts even when this was untrue. These untruthful reports had the effect of inciting the citizens against their government and put the nation on edge until the reports were rebutted by the truth. 

In all of these stories, the site and its promoters could have easily verified the truth but chose not to, preferring to publish lies.   

Against the universally accepted journalistic ethic of seeking out truth and reporting it, saharareporters.com has sought out negative information without regard to whether or not it is true. 

And what has been the result?

A site that was once the most popular site in Nigeria has slipped and is now not even featured amongst the top 30 sites in Nigeria (those in doubt can verify this information at alexa.com).

Its popularity has eroded and its infamy has resulted in more responsible newer sites such as Linda Ikeji's blog (number 13) and naij.com (number 15) displacing it and pushing it to number 31 position in Nigeria.

The question at this juncture is this. Why have The Ford Foundation and The Omidyar Foundation as well as other philanthropic organizations continued to support this website?

Is it their aim to subvert the Nigerian state? Do they believe that by supporting this site financially they are promoting Good Governance? In their opinion, does good governance equate to supporting the opposition? 

I encourage these organizations to invest a little sum on hiring an independent and objective media audit consultancy and have them appraise the activities of this site. 

These organizations have much work to do in Africa and especially in its largest economy, Nigeria, and they must ask themselves how much of their other activities will be tainted by their involvement with this site.

Finally, let me remind the promoters of saharareporters.com of one truth that can never be suppressed- No matter how far falsehood has travelled, it must eventually be overtaken by truth.

In continuation of its nationwide drive to mobilise youths for the Goodluck/Sambo ticket, the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation under the leadership of Rt. Hon Abdullahi Maibasira was in the Historic city of Kaduna, where it held an interactive session with NGO'S and Civil society organisations based in the north.
Over 35 Leaders of civil society organisations and major  NGOs attended the event, held at the Quarters House Hotel, Kaduna.

In his welcome address at the event, the convener, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Maibasira, thanked the leaders for taking time out to be part of the event. ‎He emphasised the importance of peace before, during, and after the elections and the role of NGO's and civil societies in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the society.
Rt. Hon Maibasira, who condemned the introduction of  tribal, religious, and  ethnic sentiments into the polity, called on the  leaders to join hands with the president as he passionately continues to promote unity  and peaceful coexistence amongst all Nigerians.
 He further stated that in view of the pending elections and the fact that the leaders are also critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project, the directorate thought it wise to solicit  their support towards the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections. 
The meeting thereafter went into closed door session. 
In another development, the directorate also held a Town hall Meeting in Kaduna. The event which took place at famous Arewa House was attended by youths and students from Kaduna and it's environs.
Speaking at the Event, the state governor who was represented ‎by his chief of staff enumerated several areas where the Goodluck administration had intervened to uplift the living standard of citizens. He further cited the completed Gurara hydro-electric project and the Kudandan power project as vehicles through which thousands of direct and indirect jobs have been provided to the indigenes of the state.
The chief host and head of the directorate, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Maibasira thanked speakers at the event for chronicling the achievements of the president. Again, he reminded the audience of the importance of some strategic projects, especially the Abuja-Kaduna High Speed Rail (the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa), the massive job creation via SURE- P and YOUWIN, which he said are proofs of the  commitment and passion of the president towards the development of the north.
In his remarks, Hon Boniface Garba, the state PDP Youth Leader praised  the unflinching commitment of the  National Youth Leader towards the Jonathan/Sambo ticket and his tireless efforts in mobilising youths in support of the course.
He stated that over 13,000 youths  have so far benefited from the job creation programmes of the Ramalan Yero administration while also praising the governor for releasing over 900 million Naira worth of scholarship money for students in the state.
On her part, Safiya Ibrahim who spoke in Hausa  charged all women, especially the younger women to reject  "the broom", "the chicken" and "the goat" by  fully embracing  the umbrella.
She stated that it is important for women  to rise up and protect the interest of their loved ones, especially the men in their lives, by preventing them from been tied to drums and executed for flimsy excuses, using retroactive laws.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students' and Youth Matters, Jude Imagwe cited key projects the president has executed in Kaduna, calling on youths and youth groups to rally support for the president and their governor so as to ensure a successful outing at the polls

ASSAULT ON THE SEAT OF THE PRESIDENCY

Contemporarily, election time in Nigeria has always been fraught with violence, turmoil, anxiety, apprehension and dread. Perhaps it is because of the “do or die” mentality of our politicians or the inordinate gains made while occupying political office are too great to be easily passed off.  One thing is certain; electioneering and politicking season is a time when all “gloves are off,” as the scramble for political office becomes extremely fierce.

However, as political parties and politicians employ different political maneuvers and tactics to outfox each other while campaigning, cajoling or goading the electorates, the sacrosanctity of certain candidates and political offices of the Republic should be accorded the due respect it deserves. Of particular reference are the presidential candidates of all parties and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. During this particular election campaign, while the Presidential candidates of all parties have been afforded their right to be protected from being assaulted with the ruling party going out of their way to caution their supporters against any act of impunity or assault against all candidates, the person of President Jonathan has been assaulted, treated with contempt and molested by supposed agents of the opposition.

Two weeks ago, it was reported in the news that there was a bomb blast outside the stadium in Gombe state where the President had gone to campaign. A bomb was detonated minutes after President Jonathan had ended his campaign rally in the Northern city. Whether the President was the target or not is yet to be confirmed but it was not the first incident of unwarranted attacks unleashed against him and his convoy during the course of this campaign. Prior of that incident; unidentified political thugs attacked the convoy of President Jonathan in Katsina, the state that the presidential candidate of the main opposition party, Muhammadu Buhari, hails from.

Also, last month, President Goodluck Jonathan's visit to the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife, an institution located in a state that is under the control of the APC opposition party, was cut short after supposed protesting students of the institution apparently forced the President out of the school. The President and the convoy that accompanied him were targeted and pelted with stones. According to reports, the students barricaded the road, preventing his convoy from progressing.

In addition, during the President’s campaign in Yola, the presidential convoy was stoned by mobs suspected to be members of the opposition. The windows on several of the vehicles in the convoy were smashed, before police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. In another Northern state, Bauchi, there were similar reports of a specific attack on the presidential convoy as it was stoned by hoodlums; thought to be part of the opposition.

Without much debate, the unfortunate turn of events, the violence that seems to be creeping into the campaigns and the apparent attacks on the office of the presidency, are believed to have political undertones. Never have elections in Nigeria been this competitive and fierce, and the ultimate price of the presidency is eliciting for improper, violent and extreme measures to be employed by some unscrupulous politicians. These measures are not in conformity with global best practices, not conforming to legality, moral law, or social convention and appear to be all in an attempt to sway the electorates. Never in the history of Nigeria has the exalted office of the President been this debased and treated with disdain, all in an effort to score cheap political points. Nevertheless, this is getting out of hand.

As a patriotic citizen of this beloved nation, regardless of political party affiliation, creed or ethnicity, any presidential candidate from any of the political parties and especially the office and the elected individual occupying the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be respected, no matter what. As long as he occupies ASO Rock, President Jonathan deserves better than being stoned and pelted in states controlled by the opposition. The President like any other Nigerian, irrespective of the political party he belongs to, ethnicity, tribe, or religion, has the right to campaign in any locality, any Local Government Area, any district, and in any state of his choice, in an effort to garner as much votes as he can from the electorates.

Democracy is about inducing a level playing field for political aspirants to test their popularity and strength in the murky waters of politics. No aspirant, particularly the President should be intimidated with violence or systematically restricted from campaigning in certain areas within the country, especially if the aspirant is not from that particular region or locality, or in any of the opposition states.

From all observations, the President has been the only presidential candidate in the run-up to this month’s presidential elections getting the “short end of the stick,” as he has been bullied severally not to campaign in certain areas, particularly in the north, which is the perceived stronghold of his rival from the major opposition party. Thus, it wouldn’t be a surprise if some of the hoodlums and miscreants, supposedly posing as protesters, inflicting such abhorred assault on the motorcade of the president and his entourage, are being sponsored and instigated by some unscrupulous politicians, particularly from the camp of the leading opposition party.

Hence, since members of the opposition are not doing enough in condemning the assault on the prime institution of Nigeria and the foremost citizen of the Republic, the situation is slowly morphing into an ethnic and regional feud. Already, ex-militants from the same region and ethnicity as the President have begun threatening the northern establishment, the opposition presidential candidate and the party that the same action meted out to their kit and kin would also be doled out to the opposition aspirant when he comes campaigning in their region. Needless to say, this is the kind of situation we, as a society, must do everything to prevent.
While I don’t subscribe to the rants, threats and grandiosity of ethnic bigots, the assault on the office of the President needs to be quelled as soon as possible and at all cost before it implodes out of proportion.

The legal way and globally accepted norm in establishing a perceived grievance against the seat of the President is by voting for someone else other than the President come March. Any other act different from this is a crime and erring individuals no matter how highly placed, should be treated as criminals by the authorities. The unacceptable assault on the seat of the president in opposition controlled territories must be stopped before it gets completely out of control and triggers reprisal attacks.

The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has threaten to drag Saharareporters to court if it fails to publish an apology within three business days over what he termed a malicious story published by the New York based online news medium.

In a letter by Omokri’s lawyer, Iyoke Michael, noted that the story titled, “Jonathan’s Aide, Omokri Burglarizes House in Delta, Carts Away N25, Million Meant For Buying Votes” is completely false and a damage to the reputation of his client.

“Be it known to you that Mr. Omokri did not lead armed men to a residence in Warri or any other place. The last time my client visited Warri was in December of 2012.

My client has been in Abuja for the past one week. GOVERNOR ROTIMI AMAECHI’S WILD CHASE OF THE PASTOR’S PROPHECY

Watching the manner in which Governor Rotimi Amaechi is channeling all his energy and strength towards the 2015 elections, one could be excused in thinking it was he, not General Muhammed Buhari and Professor Osinbajo, that was the presidential and vice presidential candidate. His goodluck rise to the executive seat in Rivers State, through the legal process and the belligerence he shows in his numerous showdowns with President Jonathan, has made him into a people’s champion. I have always been one of those that had seen Governor Amaechi as a hero of sorts and didn’t have many misgivings about him because I saw him as one of the better people in a bunch of bad people. I viewed his stubbornness as a needed trait to balance the dynamic of power within the PDP (the party that I belong and one that Governor Amaechi formerly belonged to). This is further amplified since both him and the president come from the same region.

My admiration for Governor Amaechi was fist tested sometime early in 2013, when the then ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria) made a public statement decrying the grounding of the Rivers State Government's private aircraft by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) as a glaring case of political witch-hunt.
 This happened in the wake of the political tussle between the Rivers Governor and the president over the Nigeria’s Governors Forum. The NCAA had, shortly after the disputed election of the NGF, banned Governor Amaechi’s aircraft from flying in Nigeria’s airspace, citing an expired clearance certificate, a failure on behalf of the pilot to file a flight manifest amongst other excuses. Even while it seemed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority may have been getting themselves involved in playing politics and clutching at straws to indict the governor, for me, the issue that should have really been on the ACN’s and people’s minds was, why and how did Governor Amaechi own an aircraft in the first place? And, even if the aircraft belonged to the Rivers government, why, when and how did the Rivers State government procure the aircraft? Did the people of Rivers know and give their consent for the aircraft to be purchased in their name? Now, as Governor Amaechi gets ready to vacate the government house this year, if the aircraft is the property of the people of Rivers, will there be an official transfer to the next governor, even if the next governor doesn’t belong to governor Amaechi’s political party?

For ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria), at that time, to be castigating the government for grounding Governor Amaechi’s private plane, instead of condemning why funds meant for the betterment of people in the State and the infrastructural development of Rivers was looted by the Governor and used to buy an airplane in the first place, it shows an element of recklessness and insincerity in their alleged fight against corruption. Instead of ACN adding a complaint of an airplane that was likely bought with stolen money to their complaint of the airplane not being allowed to fly by the PDP, they turned a blind eye. Now that it has come to light that Governor Amaechi was in cahoots with the ACN to eventually join in the APC merger, their selective war against corruption is much more clear to Nigerians. As a result of their intended merger, the ACN choose to ignore Governor Amaechi’s action of shutting down the ACN office in Rivers State during the last elections and his suspension of the elected local government chairmen. It is hypocritical for ACN, which has merged with CPC and PDP remnants like Governor Amaechi to form APC to keep quiet about a policy which supports monies accruing to states being diverted to purchase private jets that benefit the governors only, the way that Governor Amaechi did and to present him as if he is a of model of virtue. With that action, the opposition party and its members exposed its true self to Nigerians. It exposed itself as a party that was in no way a better alternative to PDP, as it likes to regularly portray.

The aircraft affair was not the first time I felt an imagined falling out with the Rivers Governor but it was significant enough to open my eyes to the hypocritical kind of leader Governor Amaechi was. Since then, the numerous actions of Governor Amaechi have contributed in stripping him of dignity in the eyes of several of his admirers. With daily condemnations, bands of the media allegations and columns exposing some of his actions, it is clear to see that a time may have come when the hypocrisy of Governor Amaechi, a man once admired and lionized by hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, will be uncovered.
In a recent account, which may explain the die-hard and desperate method adopted by Governor Amaechi as the loudest member of the opposition, it is alleged that sometime before the 2007 elections, Governor Amaechi received a prophesy from a Pastor that he would become State Governor. At that time, as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the prospect of Hon. Rotimi Amaechi becoming governor was quite remote. When the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the election of Celestine Omehia as the governor of Rivers and installed the, then, speaker of the House of Assembly, Rotimi Amaechi, the alleged prophesy of the claimed pastor came to pass. Many legal pundits back in 2007 opined that the Supreme Court had no constitutional or legal right to install someone, who never contested the gubernatorial election as the governor of Rivers State. It contradicted the jurisprudence of democracy and the Rule of Law in its very basic form. No one would have easily guessed that such an ending would unfold in the Rivers governorship saga. Therefore, for a Pastor to make the prediction that it would happen and it ends up happening, it would have come as a welcome surprise and incredible miracle for Governor Amaechi.

 If the account of the prophesy given by the Pastor is correct, then one could understand how much confidence and reliance Governor Amaechi would have on any future prophesy that this particular Pastor would make. It is supposedly believed that many of Governor Amaechi’s decisions and actions are dictated by the prophecies of the same Pastor that made the 2007 prediction.

 Recently, the same Pastor was purported to have prophesied to Governor Amaechi that the winner of the presidential elections of 2015 would be a Hausa-Fulani candidate from the North-West. Many who are aware of the allegations that several of Governor Amaechi’s actions are influenced by the Pastor’s predictions believe that this prediction is responsible for the vociferous opposition that Governor Amaechi is putting up in the lead up up to the general elections. Many believe that the Pastor’s prophesy explains why Governor Amaechi is throwing caution to the wind in his rabid support for his presidential candidate, because he is so convinced that a North Western presidential candidate will win against a South-southern candidate, based on that particular prophecy. It is purportedly as a result of this that Governor Amaechi speaks of setting up a parallel cabinet if he believes that the election is rigged. It is ostensibly because of this he makes statements that are considered as a threat to national security. Governor Amaechi speaks in the brash, careless, arrogant and crass way that he does because he is apparently convinced beyond a reasonable doubt, based on the prophesy, that a Hausa Fulani from the North West will win the election. In planning for his mutiny, parallel cabinet and encouraging violence in the country, did Governor Amaechi consider a scenario where his anointed candidate doesn’t win? He has supposedly put so much hope and sacrificed so much on this one prophecy, which he has no guarantee to be accurate, that he seems willing to wickedly push this country to war and violence should his perfect ending not happen in the 2015 elections.

 The alleged prophesies of the Pastor have not only been responsible in generating the present alleged reaction from Governor Amaechi, it is believed that the same Pastor’s prophecy was responsible for the dire manner in which the late Dora Akunyili battled for the Anambra Senatorial seat against Senator Chris Ngige. It is alleged that the Pastor prophesized that, an erstwhile information minister would certainly become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This prophecy was said to be in relation to Dora Akunyili. Believing the prophesy to be accurate, the late Minister was believed to have been encouraged to fight for that Senatorial seat in a manner that was regarded as uncharacteristic of her demeanor. The usual audacious and confident minister, suddenly became erratic and boisterous as a result of the loss, and began exhibiting certain shocking behavior, which the minister was not known for. It is widely believed that the prophecy explains why she fought so hard believing that she would eventually get the seat, as foretold. Perhaps when the minister’s unshakable conviction on the Pastor’s prophecy did not materialize, it evoked such a shocking and intense behavior from her.

Despite priding herself as a very religious nation with about 90% of the population dividing themselves between Islam and Christianity, majority of those who profess to either religions, still practice rituals and the occult, and majority of our political elites indulge in such practices to get into political office; a practice which both religions downright forbids. They also lend themselves to above stated predictions made by spiritual leaders or shaman of sorts within their religious disciplines. Because of the sensitive role religion plays in our society and in our politics, which in most cases determines who becomes what, politicians and political office holders who practices such acts, always do so in secret, behind closed doors and in the cover of darkness. It is due to these beliefs and convictions that some politicians are driven to behave crazy, out of character and become unyielding in making sure their political aspirations come true. The way many believe Governor Amaechi is presently doing. They are willing to do anything, go to any length in ensuring that they secure the political positions of their choosing, even threaten the national security of their country.

 In fact, the actions and inactions of a lot of prominent politicians today are determined and dictated by ritualistic injunctions and prophecies by spiritualists and fortune-tellers within their religious houses of worship. Unfortunately however, leading this practice are prominent pastors, imams, marabouts, bokas, fake prophets, shamans and seers, who, operate under the guise of religion and spirituality.
In Nigerian politics over the years and hitherto, there has always been a mixture of indigenous religious rituals and occult across the political landscape. Often times we come across as a people that denounce a practice but resort to it when they need a way out of a particular problem or when they desire something badly. The influence of marabouts, shamans, fake pastors and spiritual-prophets on Nigeria’s political class is ever so glaring and without distinction. All manner of politicians, patronize these soothsayers and marabouts. From politicians vying for the highest political office in the land, to those seeking mediocre and lower level political offices, none is exempt as most of them seek divination, assurances and powers from these finagle and nefarious persons posing as instrument of God. Most of these supposed soothsayers prophesy or reveal as if by divine inspiration, future occurrences that would impact positively or negatively on the political future of the politician; making such predictions in an attempt to hoodwink such politicians. Even though in most cases the so called prophesies hardly materialize, it is amazing to discover that very few politicians are able to shun these soothsayers and be completely free from their firm control and grip. These politicians begin making every political decision on the basis of the predictions of the false prophet.
 These alleged prophecies and our politician’s reliance of them is not limited to a select few or to a certain region, it is supposedly very common and happens in all parts of Nigeria. In a similar, well-known instance, it is alleged that a Senator from a state in the North-Western part of the country, created on 27 May 1967, was also hoodwinked by a supposed seer; the Senator was supposedly beguiled by the seer that he was going to become the governor of the state. The senator, in his pursuit for such a post, went ahead to decamp from the political party that sponsored him in achieving the senatorial ticket of his constituency. The elections came and went with the seer’s prediction not coming true. Hence, the dream of becoming governor by the senator continues to remain only a seer’s prophecy. Furthermore, in the same state, a young seer also prophesied that an erstwhile deputy governor of the state would become governor. After fulfilling all the recommendations of the seer, including allegedly divorcing his wife, the prophecy is yet to come true for the erstwhile deputy governor.
Other such instances that have involved the more intense form of prophecy that involve rituals and the occult; are said to have been entwined with politics in this country. There was the well-publicized infamous alleged case of a former governor of a state in the South-Eastern region of the country, who had to take an oath in a shrine before he was accepted by his political godfather. Another well-known case was that of a sitting governor from a state, known as, God’s own state, who was photographed at the infamous Okija shrine seeking spiritual assistance.

 In the south-west, presently it has been reported in the news that ritual killings have witnessed an unprecedented increase leading up to the elections. Reports from the region have stated that it is not only herbalists and traditionalists that are involved in ritual killings as formally believed. Some witch-doctors, marabouts and prophets go as far as using human parts as sacrifice for politicians, businessmen and fraudsters, known as “yahoo boys”.
 With the general elections lurking around the corner, in the news, stories of police stations being over flooded with reports of missing persons are rife. Stories where a good number of the missing persons found where lifeless bodies, which had been dumped either on the roadsides, bush paths or inside gutters; mutilated and their vital organs removed are believed to be the handiwork of herbalists and false prophets probably in cahoots with desperate politicians who want to make sure prophecies come true and to win elections at all cost.
Even without the aspect of prophesies and black-magic sacrifice, as the elections draw closer, politicians are getting visibly more desperate; evident in the plethora of cross-carpeting of some politicians from one political party to another. The recently concluded questionable primaries in all of the parties, which have been plagued by controversies, have shown that most politicians are not necessarily vying for public office to impact positively on the lives of teeming Nigerians, but for front row access to the proverbial national cake, and the power and influence that comes with holding such positions in government. This quest for political power at all cost and by any means has stretched forth to politicians allegedly seeking victory as well as protection in elections from spiritual forces and sources, and by using ritualistic sacrifices, charms and various forms of occult practices.
 It is during this electioneering and politicking periods that often witnesses an increase in kidnappings and missing person’s cases. The levels at which some politicians are willing to go to get power is unprecedented, frightening and distasteful. Indeed ritualism and the occult have eaten deep into the fabric of the political and socio-economic lives of many Nigerians, particularly the political elites.
 An example of some of these unsavory occult practices I speak of came to fore a couple of days ago when a Lagos politician, belonging to the APC, the Chairman of Alimosho Olusola Israel Adekunle was videotaped performing a ritual naked. The video titled, ‘APC – A Satanic Party’ was posted on video-sharing website YouTube by ‘Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin’, the General Overseer of Lagos based ministry Resurrection Praise Ministries International. In the video, Olusola is naked in a swampy area and at a point looks like he is sitting on a horse. He appeared to be repeating a chant spoken by what could have been a ritualist that included the words EFCC and Tinubu. Towards the end of the video, he pours a reddish liquid on himself, which the cleric describes as human blood. The pastor explained that, during the ritual, Olusola placed curses on political enemies and appealed for favor in the eyes of Bola Tinubu. In his comments, Bishop’ Benjamin alleges that the same ritual has been undertaken by all prominent members of APC. Moreover Nigeria does not have the facility to produce adequate LPG to cater for domestic cooking, so using LPG for power generation is out of the question. So Osinbajo promising to supply gas to power plants with trucks is simply talking about something that is not possible" -Punch 

Under the Gas master plan GEJ has succeeded in laying most of the pipelines that will supply gas  to our power plants !

Now consider these APC projects ‎

The completion date of the Port Harcourt Mono Rail project is unknown. It covers 4Km and has gulped $1.2 Billion or N180B.  

The completion of the Lagos Blue Light Rail project is also unknown. It covers 57Km and has consumed $1.39 Billion or N208B.‎

Not also forgetting the Fact that it was Buhari who's terminated the initial Lagos Metro (rail) project in 1984 choosing  to pay 550 Million USD as Fines and penalties  instead of Paying 450 million USD to complete a project that would have transformed transportation in Lagos state.

Also speaking at the occasion the President of Nassarawa state students Association, thanked the president for making education his number one priority , he cited the construction of a new Federal university in the state  as one of the reasons why he and many other beneficiaries of the Jonathan educational policies will continue to support the his government.

Also speaking In the same vein , the state co-ordinator of the Middle belt dialogue, Sam Israel commended the President for his people oriented development strides especially  in the area of youth and infrastructural  development. 
On his part the state  co-ordinator of the Youths for Peace initiative  John Patrick called on all those present to embrace the doctrine of peace as embodied by President Goodluck Jonathan who in the presence of extreme provocation and insults has remain steadfast in the promotion of unity and development of the country 

The Participants  who were drawn from all strata of the society also had representations from NANS and other student Union bodies in Nassarawa and the North central Geo-political zone.

The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has faulted claim by the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari, that Nigeria has been reduced to a failed state.

Omokri argued that there are challenges confronting the country but Nigeria is not a failed state, stressing that it is unfortunate that a former Head of state and a presidential hopeful will speak ill of his country.

“With due respect sir, Nigeria is not a ‘failed state’. Yes, we do have some challenges but true leaders do not condemn their nation to the world, “he said.

Omokri reminded Gen. Buhari that Nigeria is making giant strides that place it among the respected countries in the world.

“Do failed states defeat Ebola, be the world’s 3rd fastest growing economy, be investors’ destination and the largest economy in Africa?” Omokri queried.

Recalled that Buhari in an interview on Al Jazeera, Sunday, said that the “government has failed in its principal duty of protecting life or property of all beings inside its territory”.

Although there is no general consensus on the definition, a failed state is a state perceived as having failed at some of the basic conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government.

Some of the characteristics of failed state are loss of control of its territory, or of the monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force therein, erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions, inability to provide public services and inability to interact with other states as a full member of the international community
