1] You must wonder why Joe Achuzia and Chinua Achebe did not tar Awolowo with the tar brush of 'genocide' when he was alive? ![]() I mean he was alive to refute or admit to it then even though his memoirs are replete with his stand on it ![]() Why wait when he's long dead and buried to exhume this serious allegation? ![]() Is it to sell their books? 2] How come the Igbos have always aligned with the Hausa/Fulani& conservative political parties [those who instigated their 'genocide'] in politics since the onset of the 2nd Republic? I mean always voting for those who killed your people? ![]() Did the same Igbos who have always effused with love for Ojukwu denied him representation in the Senate? ![]() 3] How come Igbos have not refuted the fact that the region of man whom they accuse of genocide was the only part of Nigeria where the horrors visited against their race [raping, looting, ethnic cleansing etal] was minimal if at all existent? 4] How come the Igbos are yet to refute the fact that the South West was the only part of the country they came back to lay hold of their properties and investments after the war? ![]() 5] How come the Igbos have NEVER taken Ojukwu& their war leaders to task that they led them into a war which was not well thought out, in which he lacked major allies [Russia's backing of Assad is why the Syrian crisis has no direct Western intervention till now], ammunition to prosecute it nor provision in nutrition, cash and kind? ![]() 6] How come Achebe [a civilian] is blaming Awolowo for the a$s whooping Biafra received? Late Ojukwu& Effiong should be the ones who should tackle Gowon and their ilk about such attrocities 7] Why is the Igbo man despite his business acumen ever brash, belligerent or is it bellicose? Is it something in his genes or is it pride? Anyone who had spent time on NL or other online sites would not be shocked by Achebe's revisionism ![]() Igbo ethnic online warriors have been at it for eons ![]() After all, Achebe was an official Biafran propagandist during the war So what do you expect 42 years after the war? ![]() Any one seen his recent pictures, dude looks senile at best, so what ramblings do you expect from a man who should be in the sanatorium? ![]() |
Standing5: When the police fails us, there is always the O'dua Vigilante group. . . Shame on NPF! Dudu_Negro: If you all recall back to the communique issued by Yoruba Assembly few weeks ago it clearly stated that the individual state assemblies from Kwara to Lagos should look into forming a cooperative vigilante group to secure the region. This response by the Ogun vigilante group is commendable. Donalð Genes: Well done boys atleast stepping up to the plate when our own police couldn't Sijo01: This is soooo good! Why I'm not for vigilantes seeing all manner of crimes are committed by them too Also a lack of discipline as seen by the Aluu case , I'm all out for state police And this rescue buttresses that viewpoint You cannot know a territory better than an indigene of that territory |

Nora okon: Lack of political will is prevailent in most African Nations,Which Nigeria is not an exception. So if that is a major indices, then Africa is a failed continent. And you do not see that lack of political will has domiciled too many African countries in the bottom rung of Human development indexes? ![]() And you do not see Nigeria lurching dangerously towards anarchy and genocide daily because of this lack of political will? ![]() No one prays for anarchy yet everyday life in Nigeria keeps mirroring the movie 'Hotel Rwanda' with tick of the hands of time Pray to whatever you believe in that those movie characters do not become real ![]() |
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/columnists/rewriting-history/ World acclaimed literary giant and celebrated novelist Professor Chinua Achebe was at his controversial best last week. In his attempt to reopen the debate on the role of Nigeria’s war time leader, General Yakubu Gowon and his Finance Minister Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in the 30-month civil war especially as directed towards Biafra, the literary icon let slip, once again, his hatred for those he perceived to be enemies of Biafra. His selective perception of events of that unfortunate period in Nigeria’s history and the principal actors that helped shape them left one in no doubt that our dear Prof is more than ever prepared to not only drag us back to those bad and dark old days, but also sow the seed of discord and most likely hatred, between Yoruba and Ndigbo. To continue to blame Awolowo for some of the policies, (economic and political) of the Gowon Federal Government during and after the war, as they affected Biafra, especially from a jaundiced point of view will do nothing to enhance the policy of reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconsstruction that Nigeria introduced after the war. History is good to the extent of serving as a useful guide to the future but when those who chose to write history decided to suppress some facts in order to justify their positions, then the generation reading that history will certainly be in trouble. That society, to the extent of relying on that history, is doomed. It is not in my position to speak for Chief Awolowo. The late sage had answered all allegation relating to his role as a member of the Federal Executive Council during the war, at a town hall meeting he had in Abeokuta in 1983 so those who would like to blame the Yoruba or Chief Awolowo for the misfortune of Ndigbo in Nigeria should look in the mirror. Where else in Nigeria outside Biafra, were Ibos allowed to take back their properties after the war, apart from Yoruba land? Where else have Ibos prospered more outside the south east if not Yoruba land? Of all the ethnic crises that have been bedeviling Nigeria since after the civil war was there a time Ibos were targeted or sent out of Yoruba land? Those fanning the embers of ethnic division in this country or revisiting/rewriting history for selfish purpose had better be careful lest they get consumed in the inferno that could follow. Pray, what purpose is this Achebe’s history of the Nigeria civil war so to speak, suppose to serve especially now that Ndigbo is trying to court Yoruba in their quest to assume Nigeria’a presidency in 2015. It is possible to want to explain Achebe’s position away as that of a maverick, but if indeed he is, he is one maverick with gravitas. It would be foolish and dangerous to ignore him. If only Biafran leader, Colonel Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu had written that book on the civil war that we all expected from him before he died, may be the issue of who did what during the war would have been put to rest and we wouldn’t be having jaundiced history of the war. But come to think of it, would Ojukwu’s account of the war have settled the controversy? I don’t think so. May be is good he took his memoirs to his grave. Sadly, we will never know.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus ban overturned by US appeals court The US Court of Appeals has overturned a ban on sales of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone, in a blow to Apple in the ongoing battle between the two rivals. It said the district court in California, which had issued the ban in June, had "abused its discretion in entering an injunction". Earlier this month, a sales ban on Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the US was also lifted. The two firms are involved in a legal tussle over patent infringement claims. Samsung welcomed the latest decision saying it "confirms that the role of patent law is to protect innovation and not to unreasonably stifle competition and restrict consumer choice". "We will continue to take all appropriate measures to ensure the availability of our innovative products," the South Korean manufacturer said. Slowing the competition? The smartphone segment is one of the fastest growing sectors for phone manufacturers and Apple and Samsung are among the biggest players in the arena. Apple, which makes the iPhone, was one of the early pioneers in the segment, while Samsung, which manufactures the Galaxy range of smartphones, has made rapid strides in the sector gaining a strong share of key global markets in recent years. However, its success has coincided with a growing legal battle with Apple, spread across various countries. Earlier this year, a California court awarded Apple $1.05bn (£652m) in damages, after ruling several of its software and design technologies had been infringed by Samsung. Samsung has since challenged that verdict and called for a retrial. Analysts said that given the tremendous growth potential of the sector, the legal battle between the two firms was likely to continue. "The intensity of the competition is so high, that it is less about billions of dollars in fines but more about slowing the competition," Manoj Menon, managing director of Frost & Sullivan, told the BBC. He explained that Apple feels that Samsung has infringed its patents, which it believes has played a role in Samsung's success. "Apple will try and slow the rapid growth trajectory of Samsung," he said. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-19919298 I believe the highlighted in red is the crux of the matter Sour grapes from Apple ![]()

Horayce: I had a samsung s3. I sold it today. That is exactly what the media machine made me believe--that the s3 is the iphone5 killer. I did my research and discovered another phone, the htc one x. I was impressed by its reviews on youtube, but I still wanted to buy an s3. I went to slot two weeks ago and bought the s3 and htconex cos I could not choose between the two, even after my research. But two days into my new life as an s3/htc owner, the htc became my preferred child. It is just a more elegant phone all around. I'm not into the techie side of things but experts say they are pretty even on that score. For me I wanted a phone that feels robust and elegant. and that is what the htc is. On the other hand, the s3 is a beauty! But I couldn't help thinking it somehow looked like an inferior clone of the htconex. And why not, the htc model was released before the s3 so it can be argued that the koreans did what they are best for --aping.Got the pictures below from this link http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-19913940

Dino alone and get a life. Where you hypnotized or under some kinda spell when he was sweet-talking you for two hours? Are you a child that does not know what she wants in life. You made your choice and you got what you deserved. Keep sleeping with married men. Even if he claimed to be separated from his wife, it should not have been an automatic ticket for you to take a LONG JUMP into his life and already or seemingly shaky relationship. There is such thing as "sanctity of marriage". I wish he had given you HIV2. By the way, I don't know the Hon Dino or whatever his name is called. I have no respect for Nigerian politicians both local and national levels of government but i deduced from your write-up that you just want to give this man a bad name in order to hang him and that is most dishonorable of you. Please get a life and stop opening your leg because of a mere N250k that can barely pay one's house rent nowadays. Besides, changing your wardrobe with the above amount can only afford you a couple of designer clothes...maybe 4 or 5 at the most, and that i my own opinion , makes you a very, very cheap wh0re.Thank you jo! obailala: What sort of dumb posts am I seeing here from Nlanders?+ Infinity |
