The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said the current fuel scarcity in the country might affect logistic arrangements for the February 25 and March 11 general elections. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, stated this at a consultative meeting with the transport unions including the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), amongst others on Tuesday in Abuja. Yakubu said, “The commission shares your concern about the fuel situation in the country and its impact on transportation on election day. “The truth is that our arrangement may be negatively affected by the non-availability of products. “For this reason, the commission will this afternoon meet the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to look into ways to ameliorate this situation.” The INEC chief also urged the transporters to be neutral and non-partisan as they commute INEC staff to-and-from polling units. According to him, inter-state trips won’t be allowed, saying all INEC and adhoc staffers must not be moved beyond their local government areas.

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization of Peoples Democratic Paety, PDP, has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, has resorted to threats and intimidating opponents in the face of imminent defeat. It specifically berated Tinubu for issuing threats of violence to the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, at the APC campaign rally held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday. The PDP’s position is contained in a statement by the spokesperson of the Atiku-Okowa Campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Tuesday. He said, “Our Campaign condemns in very strong terms the resort to threats by Senator Tinubu, who is now trying to transfer his annoyance over his failed campaign as well as the frustration of crushing rejection by Nigerians to the PDP Presidential Campaign. “It is pathetic that Tinubu, finding it extremely difficult to handle his impending defeat, is now plagued by deep-seated pains, frustration and anger against successful Nigerians which manifested in his attack on the person of Emmanuel. “It is crude, to say the least, for Tinubu to have threatened to chase Governor Emmanuel, a democratically elected governor, out of Lagos State. “Nigerians can now imagine how autocratic a Tinubu presidency, God forbids, will turn out as vicious, disrespectful, harassing, intimidating and subduing. “It is, however, instructive to note that Tinubu is clearly intimidated by Udom Emmanuel’s towering achievements as well as his deft management of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council which have further fortified Akwa Ibom and other states of the federation as PDP strongholds, completely impenetrable to the APC at all levels ahead of the 2023 general elections. “Our Campaign has been made aware of how Tinubu expressed frustration when, upon arriving Akwa Ibom State, he was confronted by massive infrastructural development and citizen empowerment achieved by Udom Emmanuel, which Tinubu was lacking during his tenure as Governor. “Tinubu was said to have been comprehensively distressed by the heavy presence of the PDP in Akwa Ibom as well as the unshifting solidarity for the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the state, for which Tinubu became angry with Udom Emmanuel. “In any case, it is not Udom Emmanuel’s fault that Asiwaju does not have any landmark project he can point to as his achievement as Governor of Lagos State, neither is it his (Emmanuel) fault that Tinubu was not competent enough to put together an effective team to drive his presidential campaign which has practically collapsed.” He reiterated that it was important for Tinubu to know that Governor Emmanuel cannot be distracted from his excellent performance as the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council by his (Tinubu’s) unwarranted outbursts. According to him, Tinubu should also know that Lagos State is not his fiefdom and he cannot determine who stays or whom he will chase out of Lagos. “He should accept the fact that Nigerians have decided to vote for Atiku Abubakar as the next President of our country and his resort to bitter envy, threats and violence will not change Atiku’s impending victory, insha Allah.“ Ologbondiyan added.

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he suspects international groups that want to destroy Nigeria are behind the plight of Boko Haram we have faced, adding that it is fraudulent even by the name given to the terror group. He stated this while delivering a keynote address at a lunch organized by the Kano state government on Monday after the commissioning of some federal and state projects. “When we came into power in 2015, Boko Haram was in control in 13 of the 27 local governments of the state, only four were with the government then. “More so, half of the local governments in Yobe state were with Boko Haram. “Today with the help of a patriotic and dedicated governor in Borno state the local governments have been recovered. “What is Boko Haram? It is very fraudulent. I suspect there’s an international group that wants to destroy Nigeria. If not, how can Boko (western education) be Haram?, the President stated. Buhari, who was on a state visit to Kano also praised the performance of his administration, especially how it has been able to provide more infrastructure with lesser availability of funds when compared to the past regime. “I want you to recall that between 1999 and 2019 the NNPC production was 2.1 billion barrels per day at the cost of 100 dollars per barrel. So Nigeria was earning 100 dollars per barrel for 2.1 million barrels a day but look at our infrastructure. “Some of them 60 years old, look at our power sector, what can advance without infrastructure? “But those in charge in those years were going around not only in Nigeria but the world saying they are wonderful but they cannot explain what they have done. “But the cost of petroleum today has gone down to about 37 dollars per barrel which only 1.5 million barrels is produced and yet we have put in place a lot of infrastructure. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said he had not seen President Muhammadu Buhari for four years, as he had been blocked from gaining audience. Governor Ortom made the revelation in an interview with Vanguard, which you can read HERE. Asked if it was not too much fighting the Federal Government and his (Ortom) party’s presidential candidate, in an election year, he said there was no need for fear and no dilemma. “There is nothing like having fear about winning election or not winning election. It does not really come in. “I am doing the wish of my people, whatever you hear me speak and I have challenged them, I have consulted with them and I told them, ‘if I am not doing your wish, draw my attention, I will go back’. “This matter (security) that I have been branded a bad man by the presidency, if my people tell me that ‘Ortom this is too much please withdraw’, I will go back and apologise to the President. “I have not seen the President for four years, they have blocked me and I said fine, let me stay and do my work because I was not elected by presidency. “I have been denied a lot of things that would have come to Benue state, nothing comes here. “Those people who are against me and are working for APC, it is their shame because I expected that they didn’t want me to have any access to the President. “Now that they have him alone, what have they attracted to Benue state? Nothing. “When they are making appointments, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau and others, nothing comes to Benue. “But these are people from Benue here, who are living on crumbs and who have not performed and who have nothing to show when they were given power by the same Benue people they have not been able to impact on their lives. “I challenge anyone to come out in all sectors of the economy in the state. I have projects that I have executed despite all the problems that I have. “I sit among my colleagues who ask me, ‘My brother, are you not afraid of your life?’ “I said look, life belongs to God, the day God wants me to die, nobody will stop it. I cannot stop myself and it is only a fool that dies 20 times before his actual death. “Otherwise a wise man should die once, when that time comes you cannot stop it and it happens. “So as far as I am concerned, I am not worried about the election. Look, being a senator for instance is not the issue but service. First things first. “The day I will stand before the judgment seat of God, God will ask me, ‘What did you do when you were local government chairman? What did you do when you were secretary of PDP? What did you do when you were deputy chairman? What did you when you were national auditor? What did you do when you were minister? What did you do when you were governor?’ “And for me as a student of the Bible, the Bible teaches me to make use of the little I have because it depends on what you do with the little that have been committed into your hands. If you do well, you can be given more.”

Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed that he will return Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue to their ancestral homes once he is elected. Tinubu made this assurance while addressing thousands of supporters during the APC presidential rally at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, Benue state capital. According to the former Lagos state governor, Nigerians have no business staying in IDP camps. He said, “Once you elect me I will close IDP camps and return those displaced to their various communities and bring hope to them. “Non-payment of salaries will be over. There will be stable electricity and improved quality of education in the country including loans for students,’’ he said. Tinubu recalled his long-standing relationship with the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties, Senator George Akume, describing him as a trusted and very dependable politician. He questioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s source of wealth, saying it was not enough for him to say he was a Customs officer with a transport company. He also described the APC governorship flag bearer Rev Fr. Hycinth Alia as hope for Benue State and canvassed support for him. Akume, who is the leader of APC in the State, said, ” I know Senator Bola Tinubu for many years. He supported the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Iyorchia Ayu, a Christian who became Senate President and he has no place for religious fundamentalists.’’ Akume, a former Governor, stated: “Just like the late Minority right leader J. S Tarka who established a relationship with the Kanuris from the north, Bola Tinubu is also firmly rooted with the Kanuris in the north. He said, “Tinubu is trained for Job, he won’t experiment and has cordial relations with the north. So don’t waste your PVC but vote wisely vote for Asiwaju. “Asiwaju and I were Governors and when I lost my mother, he was the only Governor who came with one of the largest delegations to condole me at my Tarka country home. Asiwaju and Shettima are great men with great ideals to change Nigeria for the better.’’

The Lagos State Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ayodele Adewale, has claimed that the bullion vans spotted at the residence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s residence on the eve of the 2019 presidential election “missed their way.” Adewale stated this while speaking in an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday. According to him, the bullion van matter had been put to rest a long time ago. He said, “On the bullion van or no bullion van and all of that, I think that matter has been put to rest. There was no money in the bullion van. The bullion vans that even came missed their way to have come there. “I was in that house on that very day and it was not on an election day. The bullion vans missed their way to have come there. Adewale further said, “There are some companies that have high (number of) staff (members); that pay their staff with cash; that bullion van missed its way there, and it was not invited by Asiwaju or anybody.” Meanwhile, Adewale’s justification differs with the position of the APC standard bearer in 2019. Recall that Tinubu, had while responding to questions about the bullion vans at his residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, said he could keep his money wherever he wanted. Tinubu said this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after casting his vote in 2019. He said, “Excuse me, is it my money or government money? I don’t work for the government. I am not in an agency of government and let anyone come out to say I have collected contract from the government of President Muhammadu Buhari or the APC in the last five years. They should prove it. “I am on my own and I am committed to my party. So, even if I have money to spend on my premises, what is your headache? If I don’t represent any agency of government and I have money to spend, if I like, I give it to the people free of charge as long as it is not to buy votes. “Who are those monitoring my house or bullion vans? They must be mischief makers because they report falsehoods. They are liars and idle,” he said.

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has denied attacking President Muhammadu Buhari over the fuel and new naira scarcity. The Director, Media & Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, explained that the Opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP) working in cahoots with fifth columnists were the ones bent on inflicting avoidable pains on hapless Nigerians to achieve a political end. Tinubu knocked the opposition PDP and the Atiku camp for issuing a knee-jerk response, derailing from the issues, distorting his views at the Abeokuta rally, to create a wedge between him and President Muhammadu Buhari. He added, “When the guilty are afraid of being uncovered, they try to push back with red-herring.” The statement reads, “For the records, Asiwaju Tinubu during APC campaign rally at Abeokuta on Wednesday, in his statement, did not mention, blame or accuse President Muhammadu Buhari for the current challenges in the country. “Asiwaju Tinubu was only adverting the government’s attention to the sabotage being carried out by some Fifth Columnists in the system, possibly working in cahoots with the PDP. “The CBN officials, including Governor Godwin Emefiele, have said many times that enough new Naira notes have been supplied to the banks, yet our people complain that they have not been able to get the new notes. “In recent days, many ATMs are either not working or when working they are dispensing the old notes, just a few days to the January 31 deadline. “Similarly, Asiwaju Tinubu is aware of the salutary efforts by President Buhari to end the fuel queues, by chairing a 14-man panel. Yet the queues and agony continue. “For a presidential candidate, who cares about the suffering of our people, he has a duty to warn government that its efforts to make life better for Nigerians are being sabotaged on several fronts. “Our presidential candidate only re-echoed what is well known and acknowledged, even by President Buhari himself at different fora: That there are Fifth Columnists in and outside of government who often throw spanners in the works against good intentions and programmes of the government. “How does an advisory genuinely made by Asiwaju Tinubu to protect and create goodwill for the government of his party become an attack? It can only be so in the jaundiced view of the PDP. “It is in this light we found amusing the directionless Atiku Campaign’s bagful of mischief in their hurriedly put together press statement meant to gain shameful mileage from the suffering of Nigerians. “PDP and Atiku should remember not to get high on their own smoke. No political blackmail and an attempt to create a conflict between Tinubu and his long-term ally, President Muhammadu Buhari can succeed. “We have bad news for Atiku and his handlers: their latest mischief is therefore doomed to fail. “The Atiku rudderless campaign, always seeking cheap shots and easy ways has again woefully attempted to make a mountain out of a molehill from the comments made by Asiwaju Tinubu in Abeokuta. “As a patriotic and compassionate leader, Asiwaju Tinubu will not stomach seeing ordinary Nigerians being made to face excessive difficulties over mundane issues due to activities of petrol and currency hoarders. “As a proud leader of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu would not also look indifferent as his party and the government get dirtied with black brush at a critical time like this, whether he is a candidate or not. ‘Atiku camp’s hasty move to mine political capital out of the clearly difficult situation betrays his campaign’s possible connivance, due to its desperation. “As Asiwaju said in Abeokuta, these orchestrated hardships will not stop his impending victory come 25 February. Nigerians shall surely vote for a party that is working to solve all the problems and mess created by the PDP for which their presidential candidate was an integral part in the, largely, 16 unproductive years they spent in government. “Atiku and his team can continue their indulgence in fake news and twisted narratives, they cannot change the minds of majority of Nigerians who have long rejected the PDP and Atiku, after their 16 wasted years in power.” 1 Like 1 Share

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said no Nigerian leaders can create a new Nigeria overnight. Obasanjo stated this in his address at The International Conference On ‘Deepening Democratic Culture and Institutions for Sustainable Development and Security in Nigeria’ in Port Harcourt on Thursday. According to Obasanjo, ascension to political offices does not empower incumbents to destroy the policies and programmes of their predecessors. The former president said while it does not matter the party a predecessor belonged to, new leaders should sustain the policies and projects of their predecessors in as much as the programmes are in the interest of the people. Obasanjo said, “In Nigeria, each new government behaves as if Nigeria is a newly found country,” he said during his speech titled, ‘Respecting The Principles Of Democracy. “In fact, during campaigns, some leaders sound as if they plan to reinvent Nigeria and create new Nigerians overnight. That is because they miss the aspect of democracy that emphasizes continuity, stability and predictability. “One regime can lay the foundation but it requires many regimes to continue to build positively and constructively on the foundation. “It is largely because we overlook and often disregard the basic principles of democracy. And somehow, we do not appreciate the damage that we do, individually and collectively, to the fabric of the nation,” he said. Mr.Daniel Reyenieju, a former member of the House of Representatives from 2007-2019 in this interview says the Peoples Democratic Party slogan of ‘power to the people’ has been discarded for sectional and parochial interests On Monday, January 16, 2023, the rumour of your leaving the PDP became a reality when you officially resigned your membership of the party. What informed your decision? Thanks a lot. I have indeed formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which provided me the platform to represent the Warri Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives from 2007-2019. Taking note of the Aristotelian dictum that ‘every man is a political animal’, it can thus be reasonably conjectured that the dictum applies to every rational human being as necessarily being imbued with the potential to be involved in politics; whether partisan or otherwise. Such involvements particularly in the arena of the ‘partisan world’ are not neutral and that is, they are driven by interests of varied mutations. Such interests are no doubt multi-dimensional in the sense that they could strictly be for personal reasons, or such reasons largely devoid of the ego, but with major thrusts towards, and in cognizance of the interests of, for instance, your community, ethnic group, state and national constituencies, amongst others. Thus, when joining any political party, you will opt for the one whose programs you consider as having the potential of accommodating such interests that you espoused, including those that underline your reason(s) for involvement in partisan politics. When I joined the PDP here in Delta State, it was clear that the party lives its slogan of ”power to the people”. It was then interested in the people of Delta State irrespective of local governments, ethnic groupings, and constituencies, among others. But since 2015, such envisioned utilitarian disposition has been sublimed in favor and disposition towards sectional and parochial interests and overt disdainfulness of all that the party stood for, to the chagrin of democracy-loving persons. Please note that I am from the Warri North Local Government Council area, from the Itsekiri ethnic group. For example, if we now ask what Itsekiri as one of the five ethnic groups constituting Delta State benefitted from the present government since 2015 in terms of infrastructure and human capital development, all you will be told is ‘Floating market’ in Ogheye. It is painful that the Itsekiri which is the highest oil-producing ethnic group in the state remain so despised, marginalized, and cheated since 2015 by the present administration in Delta State. Let me give you another painful example. As already noted, Delta State is composed of five indigenous ethnic nations. As of today, there are six public owned universities in Delta State with State Government being proprietors to four, while the Federal Government owned two. The reality on the ground is that it is only the Itsekiris which does not have a single tertiary institution (state or federal), even when the state government a few years ago established three new state universities. What then can be more demonstrative of deep-seated marginalization and hatred perpetuated against an ethnic group; and in this case, the Itsekiri. An Itsekiri where King Don Domingos was a Ph.D. holder almost 400 years ago. I remain most pained when I reflect on the such magnitude of disdainfulness and neglect visited on my people, and with no hope and signs for remediation. I am still shocked to the morrow of my bones why the state government deliberately singled out the Itsekiri ethnic group to be so humiliated to a such ridiculous point. In such a situation, remaining as a member of such political party (that is the PDP in this instance) can only be for strictly egoistic interest; and embarking on such mission will continuously inflict both physical and emotional pains and shame on me. For this, I am certain that history and posterity will not forgive me if l remain in such an organization. Since I will always want to be on the right side of history, the most honorable thing to do is to quit with the PDP. Having left the PDP, you moved into the APC, what informed your choice at this critical time in the political timetable? You will agree with me that the political space is rich and variegated with multiplicity of political parties with different mutations and dramatis personae. Within these respective political parties are also varied interest groups. My choice of APC was informed by many factors but I will briefly inform you of just one. As you know, the present gubernatorial candidate of APC is His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who currently represents the Delta Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. Despite this fact, his political large-heartedness transcends the Delta central Senatorial District to the point that both Delta North, and Delta-South Senatorial Districts remain beneficiaries of such large-heartedness and open-mindedness in terms of citing developmental projects that he could attract to Delta State. This disposition significantly enthused me and my conclusion is that he remains an individual with disposition for fair mindedness who will see the whole of Delta State as his constituency when elected. Please note that I am also not unmindful of the present situation in the PDP at the national level whereby its inherent zoning arrangement remain willfully truncated which has polarized the party and thus inadvertently precipitating the group loosely referred to as G-5 that are resisting the present situation whereby the party has violated its own constitution with the southern part of Nigeria being cheated in the present arrangement within the party. Combining this situation with the unfairness being daily meted on the Itsekiri by PDP controlled Delta State, I decided that the route to take is to move to APC. A party whose gubernatorial candidate has demonstrated an all embracing disposition and large-heartedness. Many people see you as a politician with friends across various political divides, not the least the APC. Was there any friend on that side that informed your decision?

Valentine Ozigbo, the Special Adviser to Peter Obi on Technology and Strategic Alliances and a 2021 Anambra Governorship Candidate, has categorically debunked fake news that key officials of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council met on Monday at a top hotel in Abuja to discuss moves aimed at aligning with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in the upcoming presidential election. In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday, January 24, 2022, Ozigbo described the story as false and aimed at derailing the massive momentum of Obidients across Nigeria and worldwide, who are rooting for a Peter Obi Presidency. The statement reads, partly, “The claims reported on a faceless online medium are completely false and without any basis. I did mention that.” Soludo, however, doubted the chances of Obi to win the overall presidential election next month. Governor Soludo, who is he new national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), also said he has given Obi all the support a state government can offer to a former governor like Obi, who was in office between 2006 and 2014. The Anambra governor said he has been fair to all parties campaigning in the state and has not denied them state facilities to use for rallies. Recall that Soludo and Obi were at loggerheads over the state of Anambra economy and investments. The Anambra governor, Soludo, had said the investments Obi left in government are worth close to nothing. He said Obi couldn’t win the 2023 presidential election as there are “two persons/parties seriously contesting for president” – Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). But in his reply, however, Obi said he did his little as governor of Anambra and urged Soludo to do his best in the state as an economics professor. The duo, after the tirade, met at a public function in Awka, where they embraced each other, a development that has been described by many as a “reconciliation move.”

The intrigues trailing the race for the presidency assumed a dangerous twist, yesterday, as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, called for the arrest and disqualification of each other over allegations of graft. Tinubu threw the first punch when he asked security agencies in the country to invite, arrest, interrogate and prosecute Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over what he described as #AtikuGate. Citing a video clip made by one Michael Achimugu, said to be a former aide of the PDP standard bearer, Tinubu said Atiku as vice president between 1999 and 2007, colluded with his then boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, to operate an illegal account tagged, “Special Purpose Vehicles” SPVs. He accused the PDP-led administration between 1999 and 2007 of running a criminal enterprise, describing the era as the “SPV Years.” Responding in kind, Atiku and the PDP described Tinubu as a convict, who should not be in the presidential race, adding that Tinubu’s alleged $460,000 drug money forfeiture was evidence of a crime. Tinubu’s attack Minister of State, Labour and Employment; and Chief Spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council PCC, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, had forwarded a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC and the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, seeking arrest and prosecution of Atiku. In the petition filed as a “Concerned Nigerian”, Keyamo gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the anti-graft agencies to “arrest/invite, interrogate and prosecute one Alhaji Atiku Abubakar”, failing which he said he would approach the courts to compel the agencies to act. Noting that Atiku does not enjoy immunity simply because he is a presidential candidate, the APC candidate asked the former vice president to apologize and renounce his ambition. He, however, said he would, in the coming days, approach the courts to seek Atiku’s disqualification from the presidential race. According to him, Atiku is not God and does not enjoy immunity from criminal prosecution, and urged security agencies not to be reluctant in arresting him simply because he is vying for president. He said former Plateau State governor, Joshua Dariye, was jailed for the offenses of paying state money into a company, Marine Float, linked to Atiku, insisting that the former vice-president must be arrested. Tinubu spoke in Abuja at the PCC headquarters in Abuja yesterday through the full complement of his media directorate. While the text of a prepared speech was read by Keyamo, he was flanked by the Special Adviser, Media, Communications and Public Affairs at the PCC, Mr. Dele Alake; Director, Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga; Director, Special Media Projects/New Media, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode; and, Director, Strategic Communications, Alhaji Idris Mohammed. The PCC queried the sources of wealth of both Obasanjo and Atiku, especially with regards to building their individual private universities. On whether former President Obasanjo should equally be arrested, the PCC said the onus was on the security agencies to open investigations into the issue and arrest anyone found wanting, no matter how highly placed.

And we made tremendous progress. “I’m sure you still remember the good old days of rapid economic growth with stable interest and exchange rates, low inflation, low unemployment rates, and low poverty headcount. “We paid off nearly all of our foreign debt which was crippling the country. “It will be dangerous for Nigeria to relinquish their future to a greenhorn or the national leader of the same party that brought us to this very sorry situation.” Atiku will slug it out with the former Lagos State governor and APC’s Bola Tinubu; Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)’s Rabiu Kwankwaso among others. The presidential election is slated for February 25. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said about 94 million persons are set to vote in the election, which has been described as a four-horse race, according to analysts.

So, we are thankful and asking for your support because I know that you will back me and my party to achieve the task of recovering Nigeria. “By the special grace of God, you have always supported me throughout my political career and I have seen Ika people come out in great numbers in the past, but I have never seen this kind of crowd in our campaigns here. “I want to use this opportunity to thank the leadership of PDP and our Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for finding me worthy to be the Vice-Presidential candidate of our great party. “I have challenged our people in Delta that as a state we must cross the one million votes mark and as people of Ika nation, I challenge us to deliver minimum of 180,000 votes for the party. “I urge you all to justify my selection by ensuring that all our votes in Ika nation will go to PDP and God will bless you as you continue to work hard for us to deliver in all the elections,” he stated. On the governorship election in the state, Okowa said that the choice of Sheriff Oborevwori as candidate was divine, and urged Ika people and Deltans to support him. On his part, the candidate, Oborevwori, commended the people of Ika for their massive support, and assured that his administration’s MORE Agenda would develop all parts of the state equitably. Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said that Ika people were fortunate to have produced a governor and now vice-presidential candidate of the party and urged them to vote 100 per cent for the PDP to justify the party’s choice of Okowa as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate. Director-General of the State’s Campaign Council, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, said that PDP built the country from 1999 to 2015, but regretted that APC had destroyed the country since it took over in 2015. He, however, assured the people that PDP would restore the glory of the country and reset it for greater height, and appealed to them to vote for the party. At Boji-Boji Owa, eight House of Assembly candidates of other political parties in the state, led by Mr Andrew Akawe of Accord Party, renounced their candidatures in favour of the candidacy of Mrs Marilyn Okowa-Daramola of the PDP. The rally was attended by wife of the governor, Dame Edith Okowa; Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kingsley Otuaro; Deputy Governorship Candidate, Chief Monday Onyeme among others.
