BusinessRe: Hard Times! Economic Downturn Humble Nigeria’s Oil Moguls And Super-rich by oduastates:
Useless moguls.
Can anyone tell me one advantage of any of these guys owning oil blocks , importing crude oil , getting government dollar denominated contracts( like defense when you can negotiate directly with say , Lockheed Martins).
Would it not be better for every oil block to be owned by the government?
Corrupt Indonesia under Suharto had plastic , chemical , cement , agriculture, retail ,textile , steel , construction housing and whatever magnates .
Nigeria has a bunch of pea-brained iidiiootic nobodies .
You can imagine. These people patronise thugs to keep the gravy train going.
A thug like tompolo even had 2 private jets .
Go to the school all these so called moguls attended.
Go to their hometowns.
Even the streets they reside . Open drainage , untarred or if tarred , unswept and uneven roads with sand all over the place.
Go inside their homes, you will see tasteless ,tacky ,expensive interior decoration .
While they think they are well regarded worldwide , behind their back , they are seen as no better than monkeys.
Nigeria has the wrong set of elites
Nigeria needs more people like Seun who create something out of nothing and add tangible value.
PoliticsRe: Abuja Mafia And Budget 2016: How Buhari's Inaction Aided A Crooked Process by oduastates:
After this long sermon , the writer's conclusion is to do nothing.
This is what the governments should.

1 Suspend the budget especially the capital element and overheads
2 in the meantime resend only items regarding BVN verifiable recurrent expenditure( salaries) to the NA for approval.
3 Remove anything regarding training(Point of corruption)
4 Embark on skills/qualification verification to see if those federally workers have the pre-requisite skill. If not , retrench. They should not have been employed in the first instance.Match skills to relevant ministries

Where things get interesting
The capital element and cutting waste

1 Spend the entire capital expenditure on items which add value most especially revenues

2 Hand over unviable airports to states and commercialise /privatise the viable ones.

3 direct all FG owned agencies to close down the multiple offices/ departments in a state and move all their operations to federal liaison offices in the respective states. The armed forces ( police, customs , inland revenue , can be excluded

4 grant autonomy to the universities and make them source for their revenues with minimal grant from the federal government.

5 Terminate all long railway journeys outside city limits . Handover the rail within city limits to the states for mass transit . Instead of 2 long distant journeys a day by rail,
The states can run multiple journey within city limits because of the short turnaround duration.

6 suspend all recruitment into the civil . The problem has never been quantity, but quality. You can efficiently run the entire ministry of works with 80 engineers( civil , mechanical , electrical , project managers ,10 secretaries ,3 lawyers , 5 accountant,5 admin assistant.

7 NDDC and ministry of Niger delta . Can also be run by less than 100 people. collapse this 2 into 1 . Retrench and move most expenditure into capital expenditure , create an amnesty office with the ministry . Channel 90% of all capital expenditure into actual oil producing communities and villages with groundbreaking project which will directly benefit the people . Well planned housing, piers ,mini ports, where possible , roads and bridges etc .The ministry should desist from dealing with matters of state responsibility. Like building schools and hospitals where the states is not ready to fund the schools.

8 Encourage states that generate revenues for the FG .

These are a few thing that can be achieved with the budget . In facts, many of them do not even need additional money. You simply have to move items around.

Buhari should not waste his time .
Take advise.
Use the Georgian example .
Get rid of the entire federal civil service apart from the armed forces and medics ( where you can surgically do a repairs job).
Get rid and rebuild.
Na mago mago most of the civil servant take get dem jobs from one alhaji, pastor, oga at the top, senator, general etc.

Ambassadore Abdulazeez Musa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Petroluem, who hails from Jigawa State faces the greatest battles in his civil service career, as President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered his removal from office.

Already the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Abba Aji Goni has directed the most senior director in the ministry to act, while a probe panel is being constituted to investigate the embattled accounting officer of the ministry, in line with civil service rules.

Mr Musa who faces dismissal if found guilty is to answer questions on how he raised several millions of dollar for the extravagant wedding of his daughter in far away Dubai.

The daughter was recently married to the son of a Kogi born businessman, which was attended by several hundreds of guest from within and without Nigeria in Dubai.

But government said there were sufficient compelling evidence that he must have extorted funds from oil and gas business concerns to stage the marriage in an unnecessary location
Dubai was on a lock-down the weekend of June 7 to 9, 2013. The pre-wedding party took place at the Cavalli Club Dubai, which is located at the humongous Fairmont Hotel on Sheikh Zayed road, Dubai the same street as the JW Marriott Marquis, Dubai where the wedding itself took place. Pre-wedding party was on the Friday, June 7, 2013, prior to the wedding proper which was on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Let’s quote the description of the Cavalli Club for you- ”It’s a distillation of all things fabulous. It was launched in collaboration with the famous Italian designer- Roberto Cavalli. So just imagine something connected to one of the premier designers of the world, known for sheer opulence.
Cavalli Club Dubai, was on a total lock-down, it was totally taken over by the Omokore’s and their guests. All the biggest and best brands of liquors in the house and best Cuban cigars were at everyone’s beck and call. A particular brand of Champagne, said to cost $150,000 par bottle was what a particular young billionaire favoured. And it was pop-pop-pop!!! All night long, at least till 3am. The Magnums, Kristals, Louis Xiii Cognac etc were all on the house and people had their fill. A particular government official who had wanted to smoke a Cuban was given like a whole lots to make his choice and to take as many as he wanted. Some said about the Cavalli Club on that night, ”it was the highest paying night in the history of the joint”.

Getting inside the wedding venue on the D-day even with your IV was like a camel passing through the eye of the needle. Security was 7-stars. IV’s were cross-checked with a list, so if you weren’t on the list, you weren’t going to enter, those inside couldn’t take anyone in, so people tactically didn’t pick up calls or switched off their phones. Coming from Nigeria to the wedding, Tosin’s step-mom, Angela took the whole shine, she had a dedicated private jet and we heard it was filled to capacity, those who couldn’t get on her jet, had to go by commercial flights (Business Class though). The whole Omokore household, maids etc were transported to Dubai, so as to be a part of the jollification. The man of the moment himself lodged at ”The One”. Deejay Jimmy Jatt, Africa’s Numero Uno was on the wheel of steel on the wedding day, the Wiz of life, Wizkid performed to everyone’s delight at the wedding proper, NaetoChukwu Chikwe aka Naeto C had performed admirably at the Pre-wedding party. As it should be Nigeria’s pride, Bright ”Basketmouth” Okpocha was the perfect host.

That’s not all, Godbless & the Eboni Band were flown in from Nigeria- band, equipments and all, to provide live music of the esoteric kind. The 3rd place winners at the 3rd edition of America’s Got Talent, Nuttin but Stringz also came in to perform. The duo consists of 2 very talented brothers, who both play violins and they can do a whole gamut of genre (Hip-hop, Classical Music & R&B) with awesome dexterity. Remember one member of the now disbanded KUSH, Lara George, yes you all can. The lady with the great voice performed at the Church wedding. Incidentally, wedding day was Faizer’s mom’s birthday, so she was honoured with one of her favourite songs done by Lara and she was presented a birthday cake.

Those in attendance? A whole lot, about 20 Senators flew in Senators Gbenga Ashafa, Smart Adeyemi, Margery Okadigbo were easily noticeable, the former Governor of Kogi State and the current Governor were both in attendance, so also was Godswill Akpabio, the Governor of Akwa-Ibom, 3 Royal fathers were seen their royal majesties Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Oba of Epe, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Bamgbopa, the Asiwaju himself, Governor-Emeritus Bola Ahmed Tinubu, MD/CEO Oando, Wale Tinubu, Billionaire Kola Aluko, his younger brother Kunle Aluko, Dejare Adegbenro, former NDDC boss, Timi Alaibe, Akpovi Oyo, Deoye Austen-Peters, Chairman of the occasion was none other than Major-General David Madayese Jemibewon, so many others.

As par the wedding gifts, it had to be the type that would befit the occasion, sure they did. They were the new BlackBerry Q10 Phones, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, Bang & Olufsen Sound System Speakers, Arabian Tea Set & luxury towels. To get all of the gifts you had to be a VVIP. The VVIP’s were the likes of the Ooni and co, & they had their designated sitting area. But there was also the all comers part inside the same hall and those ones got some of the gifts and not all.

The destination wedding was packaged by Ayiri Oladumoye’s Oaken Event Limited, which is gradually becoming the number 1 for such events in Nigeria. The company also handled Tuface & Annie Macaulay’s Dubai extravaganza, just a few weeks ago.
Immediately after the wedding Otunba Jide Omokore left in the company of his good friend, another billionaire, Mr. Kola Aluko for London en-route Monaco, where he has gone to catch a breather while watching F1-the game of the super duper rich…..

Many of those to whom Jonathan sold those power assets are the same bastards who destroyed the country.
They know nothing about power ( technical know how) and do not have investable funds . They bought it for the rents .
Fashola will only seek to improve on the system rather than to totally dismantle it.
That is simply his style or should I say weakness.
He is also an American free market style republican.
On the tariffs, unfortunately this is probably closer to the real market tariff when the cost of production is considered and the age of your power infrastructure is considered. A substantial chunk of electricity generated is also lost as heat( SS 2 physics) .
Your entire power infrastructure is as rickety as trying to squeeze water out of dry sand. It is probably cheaper in the long run to allow states or regions to run their own power sector without any federal government input.

PoliticsRe: List The Revenue Allocation Formulas That Could Be Generally Accepted In Nigeria by oduastates:
The only acceptable formula is ,
The federal government should GET OUT.
Buhari or no Buhari. The FG and the constitution from which she gets her power, is the biggest problem.
Ya all know I dislike all these new generation churches.
Total resource control.
This institution called the FG is responsible for spreading poverty ,mismanagement and every other bad thing across the country.
This is the reason why some folk can afford to ban liquor but still want to partake in sharing revenues from same.
Free money ,no effort .
Let states or regions collect their taxes , control their electricity, telecommunications, rail , road , regimental army etc . Let them contribute 10%-50% of their income for the FG upkeep.
For instance , The SW can attract the investment needed for 24hrs electricity. In fact , I believe we can attract the investments needed for virtually everything but the question mark has always been the baggage of the federal government.
Just look at the taxes being removed from the economy of Lagos .
Imagine the state having access to ordinary 20% of that money . Look at the recent charges on bank accounts and the money being removed from the pockets of people who are resident in Lagos or elsewhere.
The FG will take that money and waste it or give to unproductive states. Starving those who are productive thereby spreading the poverty from unproductive states to productive states.
with what is on ground, the FG cannot justify all the money she is vacuuming from states and region .
Look at Borno . That state is in the top 10 of revenue collectors . It also has numerous natural resources and natural wonders. You can see with your own eyes why inspire of all the free money, they have only been able to mass produce illiterates wh are now the foot soldiers of a terrorist army.
Look at those cattle rearers terrorising farmers all over the place . Without the free money , would the leaders of the nomads not have exploited the cattle husbandry value chain. Milk , beef and all . What about the solar and the gas ,which is definitely under the soil ,for electricity production and sale.
Look at Benue with two major rivers and arable land , yet cannot support year round agriculture.
You can give 10 year support for those states or regions who cannot carry their own weight.
No region is poor , the leaders only need to do a little bit of soul searching .

PoliticsRe: Damilare Ogunleye: [rejoinder] Nigerians Seeking Asylum Abroad Are Insincere by oduastates: 3:02am On Feb 08, 2016
temitemi1:
Dear President Buhari,

Your Excellency, finally, you added the backbreaking straw with your comment about the notoriety of overseas crimes committed by Nigerians. Incidentally, I read the excerpt of the Telegraph UK interview wherein you made the statement while I watched a Netflix documentary titled “Virunga”.

Virunga is a 2014 British documentary film, which focuses on the conservation work of rangers within Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the activity of a British company, Soco International, which began exploring for oil within the UNESCO World Heritage Site in April 2014. In the past month, I have also seen quite a few other documentaries around a similar theme – “Stealing Africa”, “How to rob Africa”, “The Great African Scandal”. The consensus theme, albeit stereotype, is that “The West is largely as responsible as Africans for the woes of the African continent”. When it wasn’t giving out the entire democratic republic of Congo to King Leopold II as a private enterprise, it was granting presidential pardon to her citizen who set the pace for defrauding African governments, now commonly known as “Subsidy scam” in Nigerian circles. There are even alleged conspiracies about how this pardoned individual financed the military coup that brought you to power the first time. But that is an entirely different issue for discussion. Since you rode to political power on the wave of a change(d) democrat, we can at least let bygones be bygones.

However, beyond the all-too-common rhetoric of a plundering west, I also found a few lessons from the documentaries that have evidently become relevant in the face of your many recent overseas comments.

First, greed is human nature A few Nigerians partaking in drug trafficking, sex racketeering, and basic as well as advanced fee fraud is not very different from a few westerners partaking in sponsored wars, unpaid royalties, and third party child labor. The key difference rests in the system of the crime and the strength of the law. While the foreign individuals stealing the continent have built corporations around their trade, Nigerian (African) criminals with a turf off the continent still run the show as crudely as many of their one-man businesses. Unfortunately, the strength of the law is a reverse in these scenarios. The corporations have to deal with ineffectual governments and weak institutions, while the silo-styled Nigerian kingpin takes his chances against decade-old intelligent law enforcement institutions. Little wonder who the odds are against.

Second, charity begins at home, and I guess this is an intended double-edged truth. Wishing away the reality that corruption is endemic in today’s Nigeria is akin to a fool’s pilgrimage. If this is a generally accepted paradigm, why do we expect that our beat-the-system nature wouldn’t land us in murky waters when we face stiffer systems abroad? Or do we currently have a system that ensures only the righteous ones make it abroad? Quite the contrary! Many of us who travel abroad have had to beat the system at least once, along the value chain from getting an international passport to being airborne. Sir, if we really want to fix our image issue, then we must fold our sleeves back home and get to the trenches of strengthening institutions as against pelting us with the change rhetoric as if another election season is nigh.

Unfortunately, your disdain for the second edge of the home-taught charity pierces my heart more. A disturbing trend has emerged from many of your foreign trips, especially those in which you enjoy great spotlight from the foreign media. You often speak in the third person. Your stance on Nigerians at such times beggars belief. It’s almost as if you are the president of a people you do not want, or associate with, or don’t even know at all. If this were in the corporate world, it could easily be interpreted as if you are positioning yourself to be poached from the other guys. Or sir, are you positioning for the UK to poach you as her prime minister? That you choose to make controversial statements about your people through the foreign media while on foreign trips is a chain of bad decisions. Sadly, your handlers are doing a great job of managing the clap backs terribly.

On a final note sir, there are quite a lot of hardworking Nigerians seeking asylum abroad. That a lot of Nigerians can daily swallow the pills of a failing government, bad economic policies and a growing sense of insecurity doesn’t mean those who choose to opt out of that reality are fraudulent. When I feel a government cannot provide the basic conditions for my survival, am I not in danger? There is only so much a man can take and those who desire to pursue their own happiness should feel free to do so without their president equating such pursuit with crime.

Sir, you are the president of all Nigerians, home and abroad. What we expect from you is the CHANGE you and the All Progressives Congress (APC) promised, and not beating the drums of shame, hoping that the rhythm would nudge our hands to clap and our legs into dancing.

Change, please?
