@odumchi am from AWGU
Oh ok. So now I understand the Wawa thing. People refered to Enugites as Wawa so much that I was beginning to think they were a clan.

ChinenyeN:
Seriously? How do you not know your own dialect?
Come to think of it, it's better than understanding Igbo but not being able to speak it.
Anyway, his case isn't that pecuiliar. An Owerre kid who was raised in Nnewi will most likely speak Idemilli and vise versa. I have a relative who has lived in Aba so long that all he speaks now is Ngwa.

I remember last time we met, most of what he spoke sounded like gibberish. I felt like saying, "Man, abeg just speak English to me." lol  grin

You speak Ngwa . . . ?

NRI PRIEST:
Firstly, Igbo women dont have history of wearing beads on their heads because its not our culture at all. Thats strictly Benin style and the smaller kingdoms around them, like uhrobo, afema, okada, akoko edo and co. Even the western Igbos dont wear beads on their heads. It is not Igbo womens attire, its a new trend and foreign and needs to be corrected right away!!
Please, don't bring confusion into our midst. You might want to rethink what you posted.

The Ututu are a people in Arochukwu LGA, Abia State. You're also right, they are Eastern Igbo.

Compare and contrast this Ijaw woman's attire (minus her blouse and wrapper) with that of her Igbo counterpart.

Compare these Igbo men to their Efik counterparts. Try to find distinctions. grin

Now, compare this Ijaw woman's traditional attire (disregard her blouse and wrapper) with that of her Igbo counterpart.

Although its clear that the Urhobo and Edo are related, please take a look at this picture of an Urhobo maiden for comparison's sake.

CultureRe: The Acculturuation Bewteen Midwestern And Eastern Nigerian Cultures. by odumchi(mod): 8:13am On Dec 03, 2011
Now take a look at the next two pictures, and youll see Igbo maidens also with similar attire and notice the way their head beads are ornamented and also the presence of the bead shawl.

This thread is meant for us to an observation at the similar yet distinct cultural patterns that are found throughout the cultures of Midwest and the East. If you take a look at the first two pictures, you will see two elegant Edo maidens.

Take notice of the braiding style with which their hair is braided and also notice the bead shawl.

So, have we exhausted the number of lectal/dialectal representatives here on NL?

Aro
Isinweke

Abiriba
Owere
Item
Agbor
Nsuka***
[some place in Enugu; Afam didn't specify]
Ikwere
Riverine/Ukwuani/Oguta/Oru

Elai

***Is Nsuka an actual group or just some name for an area?
Most likely a group since they have their own dialect.

CultureRe: Igbo Dialects by odumchi(mod): 1:37pm On Dec 02, 2011
What I'm asking is where are the distinctions drawn? Like where does use of otu end and use of ofu begin? Is it possible to find an "otu/olu" speaking people in Anambra or Delta? And vise versa.
CultureRe: Igbo Dialects by odumchi(mod): 2:29am On Dec 02, 2011
Which dialects generally use ofu, otu and olu?

I'm well aware that the majority of Delta, Enugu and Anambra say Ofu, Ngwa and other parts of Abia and Imo say Otu, and parts of Northern Abia say olu. However, in which areas are each strongest?

Oh ok. This refers to spoken Igbo right? However, I am aware there is only one written Igbo.

And @topic I've noticed that we've yet to see any Ebonyi dialects.

CultureRe: Igbo Dialects by odumchi(mod): 12:38am On Nov 29, 2011
So what do you say as yesterday If you don't have "unyahu?"

In Aro we say "Nmiri doro uynahu". However in what is called Ibibio Igbo (which is the type shredded of Igbo spoken by Ibibios in the surrounding area) they say "Nmini" instead of "Nmiri".

tpia@:
i think the v turns to a w same as with arabic, in the Jewish pronounciation.

or it remains v.
It might be "Dafid" since Steven is actually pronounced "Stefen" in Hebrew. But I was also thinking, isn't the name Daoda or Dauda?
