CultureRe: Why Can't Nigerians Teach Their Children Their Language? by odumchi(mod): 2:33am On Nov 15, 2011
Truth is the average American is struggling just trying to learn English alone, not to talk of another language. However there's no reason you shouldn't be ae to learn you'r language.
CultureRe: Why Can't Nigerians Teach Their Children Their Language? by odumchi(mod): 9:10pm On Nov 14, 2011
You know, I think that this issue has to do with American culture eclipsing African culture. Despite the fact that many Nigerians do not teach their language to their children, i cant say that its the case for all. Sometimes parents feel ashamed of teaching their children their language and end up teaching them only English.

I thnk the main issue here is that parents aren't putting enough effort into teaching their children their culture. However not all parents are this way. In most cases, the child will understand his or her native language but will have difficulty speaking it. The rarest cases are that the child doesn not hear or speak his language. It's not enough just speaking the language to the child, but asking the child to speak back is what's best.

However like I said, this isn't always the case. I myself am currently living in the New World and I can speak my language fluently. But to be honest, this is a pressing issue for all cultures. America can be metaphorically described as a "black hole of culture" where different cultural identities ate blended to form the "American Pop culture".

Wow, that's amazing lol. I never knew that rastafari had the same influence here in Africa as it did in the Carribean. You learn things every day.

Jenifa_:
his full title:
"His Majesty Haile Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings (Emperor) of Ethiopia, Elect of God"

Check out Idi Amin's full title:
"His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular"

a lot of african dictators had those kind of self delusions.
I wouldn't compare the two. Haile Selassie was a very intelligent and useful man to his country. He made Ethiopia the first "modern" African nation and fended off two colonization attempts by the Italians.

While Idi Amin on the other hand. . .

lagcity:
you can be befuddled all you want cheesy. Give me one reason why Nigeria needs to modify planes. You can say we need to produce our warplanes and I won't argue with you. But why modify? To save money or what? Also, during the civil war, Nigeria didn't need to modify anything, we had them all readymade from a supplier. If positions were switched, Nigeria would have manufactured very impressive machines and Nigeria would have won the war as an underdog.
From a military perspective, Nigerias planes and much of her military hardware are nearly obsolete. The Airforce flies the same type of planes it flew during the Biafran war (MiG 21s), the Nigerian Navy is still crude and small, and the army has no main heavy battle tank.

However look at Israel. They fly US made F16s but they constantly upgrade it's hardware and weapons that it still competes in modern aerial warefare. They designrd and built their own heavy battle tank (Merkava) which was built for Israeli use in Israel alone, and Israeli army (IDF) is one if the best trained and equipped militarist in the world and certainly the best in the Middle East.

I hope this shows you why Nigeria should start upgrading/building vehicles, planes and equipment specifically for it's own use. If not, Nigeria will always play the "catching up" game.

Oh boy, you this guy, stop twisting my words.
Who said anything about killing Easterners and all? Guy, Let's go back to the genesis. You said many of the antagonist were from the West of Edo state. I debunked it. You came up with the Ogoni twist to it, I debunked that again. Now you are talking about killing 250,000 Ogonishuh shocked

@highlighted
You are funny. Did I not prove that Nigeria built their airplane with pictures and articles?? Where are the airplanes Biafrans built when Ojukwu himself did not mention anything about airplanes. Propaganda upon propaganda. Btw, how does my stance translate to "hate" on "Easterners" (whatever that means). You are indeed very funny. I'll leave you at that, since I see that this is/was an emotional thread for the "Ogonis". *hisses*

Interesting topic.
PoliticsRe: Biafra Built Three Planes In 3 Years? by odumchi: 11:44pm On Nov 11, 2011
Necessity is the mother of invention.

They [Biafrans] lacked Refined fuel, so what did they do? They refined their own petrol and experimented with biofeul.
They lacked weapons so they constructed homemade rockets, mortars and crude artillery pieces.
They needed armored vehicles so they outfitted vehicles with metal sheets and tracks.
They initially had no airforce and what did they do? They built planes and recruited European volunteer pilots to fly for them.

It might be interesting to add that at the beginning of the war, Biafra had only 130 or so rifles but through ingenuity and proper management they held out for 3 years.

This one is dated circa 1968-69 and is really centered at the humanitarian efforts. Watch as Nigerian planes bomb the civilian hospital in the beginning.

Katsumoto:
Which planes did Biafra build?
"By the spring of 1969, Biafra had built five MFI-9Bs in Gabon, calling them "Biafra Babies". They were coloured green, were able to carry six 68 mm anti-armour rockets under each wing and had simple sights. The six airplanes were flown by three Swedish pilots and three Biafran pilots."

As an "outsider", I'm a lil iffy about the horsetail in those pictures. When did the SE Kings/chiefs began carrying horsetail like their brothers in the SW? I found that aspect a lil bit interesting. . . . has it always been like that or when was did the change start?
